Denver Fashion Week Georgia Tournai
This spring season’s hair show and Denver Fashion Week did not disappoint. With an overall theme of “Neon Daze” inspired by the ‘80s the runway brought bold looks from hair artists and salons throughout Colorado. Among the talent on the runway was award winning hair artist, Georgia Tournai, with her collection of three models. She was inspired by the civil disobedience of the ‘80s and the riots as pertaining to the gay rights movement and the AIDS crisis. Two models sported mullets and another with a 6 foot long wig, all cut and colored to emulate exaggerated styles from GLBT culture in the 80s. Each model had phrases worn proudly on their chest as they strutted down the runway that were seen during the riots - “Find Your Anger”, “Where’s Your Power?”, and “Silence=Death”. To Georgia it was important to send a powerful message of resilience and hope, to transcend back in time to a place when our greatest hope was our greatest action, reminding the community today that we are strong... we are not alone.
