The movie For The Love of The Family had a lot research go into it. The
Movies Casino and Goodfellas when writing this script inspired us. The idea of telling the story of people who aren’t actually part of the “family” came from these movies. Movies about the mafia are an interest of the creative team on this movie. Visiting New York made it an easy decision to make the movie take place in the city. Historically most of the mafia resides in the northeast. The television series The Sopranos helped with the aesthetic we chose. It is seen to be double sided because there are parts that seem like everyday life and others where it has more of a gloomy feel. This aesthetic was easily transferrable to our movie, especially because of the similar subject matter. All of these things helped us with our character development. We see how the characters are portrayed. This helped us figure out which way our characters would act: such as Vince, who is hotheaded and ruthless, Mario, who is lighthearted and naïve, and Jeff, who is a classic scumbag. Though For The Love of The Family was conceived from many sources of inspiration, it is an original script with many realistic components from our in depth research on the mafia.
