STEWARDSHIP UPDATE For the month of May, contributions from our congregation to the General Fund were $22,870.49. For the first five months of 2013, contributions to the general fund have totaled $122,759.69. This represents 36% of the total budget of $337,155.00 and compares with $119,580.00 contributed in the first five months of 2012. Ideally, we would like to have had approximately 42% of the budget (or $136,159.00) contributed by this time in the year. Though contributions are short of where they need to be, we are trying to make every effort not spend more than is contributed. It is from the General Fund, that salaries are paid, programs and ministries such as our upcoming Vacation Bible School are underwritten, and all the things that keep our facility open and operating are done. All known bills and obligations, includes Morristown District obligations, are up to date with the exception of Holston Conference and denominational obligations. We have paid $6,510.50 so far in 2013 and approximately $5,765.47 is due. During this season in which we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit to the church, this is a wonderful time to evaluate our giving and whether it reflects a tithe (10%) of our income and our gratitude to the Lord for all He has given us. If you are behind in what you had planned to contribute or are able to contribute more than originally planned, now is an excellent time to reflect a heart of generosity.
LET'S WORK TOGETHER Our denomination has called all churches in United Methodism to action. This "Call to Action" is the result of a study of the statistics of 33,000 UM churches and found that over 5000 were growing and engaging a greater percentage of their membership in worship and ministry. At a significantly higher rate than other churches, these 5000 were growing over a period of several years- no matter what their size, location, or ethnicity. After examining all this data from across the denomination, the study identified 16 common factors in these churches- and now refers to them as the 16 "drivers of vitality." They form the core of our ministry strategy over the next few years. We must strive to work together to make sure that we are a vital, growing congregation. It will truly take the work of everyone- and all this work must be surrounded by the fervent praying of God's people. Unless the Lord builds the house, we do indeed labor in vain (see Psalm 127:1). Those 16 drivers of vitality are: 1) More small groups for all ages, 2) More programs for children, 3) More programs for youth, 4) Effective lay leadership, 5) Lay leadership that exhibits vital personal faith, 6) A rotation of lay leadership to involve more people over time, 7) 20% or more of worshiping congregation are current or past leaders in their church, 8) Pastors who develop and mentor lay leadership to equip them to carry out ministry, 9) Pastors who enlist the participation of others in accomplishing needed changes in the church, 10) Pastors who lead the congregation is setting and achieving significant goals, 11) Pastors who are effective preachers 12) Pastors who stay for a long time (when they are serving effectively) 13) Worship services are a mix of traditional and contemporary, 14) Messages in worship are topical, 15) Use of contemporary music (not blended) in contemporary services and 16) Use of multi-media in contemporary services. We are currently addressing factors 2,3,13,14,15 and 16 and in the months ahead, we will address Factor #1 as part of a renewed emphasis on Small Groups. Your help and prayer for this undertaking are needed and appreciated. Pastor Stuart

RESPONDING TO THE DISASTER IN OKLAHOMA On Monday, May 20, a powerful mile-wide tornado spun through parts of Oklahoma City and the town of Moore (pop. 55,000). Officials have confirmed a total of 24 deaths and 237 people injured. It was one of at least nine tornadoes to lumber through Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas, and was on the ground for a full 40 minutes. There are many opportunities in the near future for individuals and groups to be a part of a VIM (Volunteer in Mission) Team to help out with recovery in Moore. For the moment, most concerned individuals and faithful United Methodists can help through their prayers and financial assistance. Relief kits will also like be needed, especially health kits and school kits. For information about how to assemble these, visit UMCOR Relief Supplies page on the UMCOR website. Kits can be sent to any of the depots in the UMCOR Relief-Supply Network. You can also contribute through TUMC by making your check payable to the church and writing "Oklahoma" on the memo line. You can also contribute with your online gift, or by calling toll-free 1-800-554-8583. To make an immediate $10 donation, text the word RESPONSE to 80888. Thank you.

REPORT FROM THE MISSION,EVANGELISM AND OUTREACH TEAM (M.O.E.) The M.O.E. Team of our church is pleased to report that through the generosity of the Trinity congregation, we are able to transport 40 School Supply Kits to Holston Annual Conference at Lake Junaluska on June 9-13. These kits were our mission emphasis in April. There they will be combined with the kits from other congregations in the Holston Conference and shipped to our missionaries in Africa for use by the children of the Roberts School in Liberia. These school supplies will be welcomed with open arms. Thank you congregation for your generosity. May was Imagine-No-Malaria Month and we received your contributions for this denomination-wide effort during May. Holston Conference has a goal of raising $1 million for Imagine-No-Malaria by the end of Annual Conference on June 13. To date $505,780 has been raised by the conference and we will be adding $1,061.00 as a contribution from Trinity to that total. For every $10 raised, 1 life is saved from a disease that claims 1 million lives globally each year. Thank you again Trinity for your generosity. In August, our mission emphasis will be the work of Fran Lynch in Alaska. You will have opportunity to hear about her work and support that work with your generous contributions.
