HAPPY NEW YEAR! ____________________________________________________________________________ A HELLO AND A GOODBYE FIRST, a HELLO. The congregation of Trinity UMC welcomes David Boyd to our staff as Music Director. David will be directing the Chancel Choir, serving as Worship Leader for our new contemporary worship service (more about that later) and providing oversight to the rest of our music program. David teaches voice and guitar in Knoxville where he has served as Music Director of Faith UMC in Knoxville. He has a Master of Arts in Church Music degree (with emphasis in voice and arranging/composing) from the Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis and a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree from Carson-Newman College. We anticipate that his first Sunday (as of this writing) will be January 27. Please pray for David as he gets adjusted to a new church and "hits the ground running" as we prepare for the start of a second worship service at Trinity. ...and a sad GOODBYE. December 24 was the last time for our previous Music Director, Jerry Long, to be with us. We have been blessed over the last 30 months with Jerry's leadership in music and have appreciated together the weekly anthems and the presentations on the special days (such as this year's Journey of Promises!). Jerry and Annetta have expressed the desire to live a little more like retired people and we ask God's blessing on them as they enter in to this new phase of life. Many travels are already planned for in 2013, but we hope some of those travels will bring them back to Greeneville and to us at Trinity UMC. The Longs have enriched our lives by their presence with us and ministry to us and with that we say "Thank you, Jerry and Annetta." Pastor Stuart

________________________________________________________________________________________ FINANCIAL UPDATE Thanks to each of you who have supported the ministry of our church by your contributions. It has been a challenging year, and with a strong finish, we ended 2012 on a positive note, though it did not erase some of the challenges earlier in 2012. Our 2012 budget was set at $357,342.00, and, as of December 30, we have received $301,972.00 in contributions toward that budget. Since contributions did not keep up with expenditures, we actually spent approximately $17,000.00 MORE than we received last year. Only the federal government operates in that manner for very long and our very own "fiscal cliff" was looming. Our approach was to reduce expenditures and suspend paying our required "tithe" to the Holston Annual Conference in the last quarter of the year. This helped our "bottom line" a great deal, and your generous support at year end helped us finish the year with all known obligations paid, and almost all of our District and Conference Obligations. In fact, in the month of December, we received $38,505.00 in contributions to our General Fund-this exceeded the largest amount we have received in any month in the last three years. We do indeed appreciate your generosity and thank you for your support of our general fund.

HELP!!!! We really need volunteers to operate our sound board and videography during worship. If you are willing to serve in a rotation with others and keep all of our sounds sounding great on Sundays, we would appreciate it. Mr. Montieth really needs the help and is willing to train you. If we have 4 or more volunteers, no one will have to be on the board more than one time per month. The only requirement is that you be high school or above, have good hearing, and a willing spirit. If you are willing to help, talk to Lyle Montieth or the Pastor.
