rinity Volleyball enjoyed a very rewarding season across all teams highlighting the continued strength of Trinity College in PSA Volleyball. The 2007/08 season involved Trinity College sending three teams to the Australian Schools National Cup.

This competition represents the biggest sporting competition for high school students in the southern hemisphere, with in excess of 3,000 players converging on Melbourne for the week. Each team played ten games in five days against schools from Victoria, South Australia, Canberra, New South Wales and New Zealand. Our teams performed well given that this is their first appearance at such a significant tournament. Students were amazed at the standard of some of the players, and really stepped up to the challenge of a national standard of volleyball. Our best result was from our Open Men, who finished fifth from twelve teams. This was an admirable result given that three of the eight players were injured or unwell. The Year 9 and 10 teams had an excellent start to the week, but let many close matches slip away. Their results did not reflect the standard of volleyball they played and we were very proud of how they performed and improved across the week. Off the court our students were a credit to Trinity College. The young men looked and behaved in a manner that stood them apart from many schools. Individually, Andrew Lillywhite, Oliver Righton and William Righton received recognition for their ability by identification for future national squads by talent scouts from Volleyball Team Australia. At a PSA level, this year proved to be a solid summer season for Middle School volleyball. Coached by Ms Linda Lauridsen, Mr Bobby Emmanuel and Mr Brendan Chapman, students rapidly learnt new skills that will make them more competitive in future years.

respectable season finishing second under the guidance of Mr Craig Adams, whilst our 3rd VI Volleyball finished third with an enjoyable season coached by Ms Rita Basilio. The 1st VI Volleyball team continued their strong standing in the PSA, again finishing second to arch rivals Aquinas. The team had plenty of potential throughout the season, and at times played outstanding volleyball. Consistency plagued us at times, and hopefully taught us how to play in pressure situations in the future. Although the team fell short of their ultimate goal, they showed great ability and character throughout the season and should be proud of their performance. The continued goal of winning the Brother Carrigg Cup is getting very close. A continued focus on teamwork and intensity during training and games will surely be rewarded in 2009. Throughout the season the team was led admirably by Captain Andrew Lillywhite. He gave great service to his team and Trinity College and was rewarded by selection in the Under 19 State team. Tim Mettam also gained selection in this team, whilst Jack Dart, Sam Mettam, Jack Righton, William Righton and Ben Usher earned selection in the Under 17 State team. Of special importance were those players who consistently filled teams other than the A or 1st teams. Having such depth of players directly contributed to increased levels of skill and competition in Trinity teams over the season and the overall success of the program. Considerable thanks needs to be given to the subcommittee of parents who worked tirelessly to help organise events and fundraise for the tour. This not only made a significant difference in family expenditure, but also built a great sense of community and shared purpose amongst Trinity volleyball families. Given the success at this tournament and at a PSA level, the coaches are excited at the emerging talent within our students. The future of Trinity Volleyball looks very strong. In the senior squad, students continued to improve their standard of skills and gamesmanship. The Year 10 team continued their success as a year group under the guidance of Mr Mark McKenna. The 10A team easily accounted for all of their opponents in all of their fixtures, whilst the 10B team won most of their games playing in the 10A division. The improvement of the boys’ technical knowledge of the sport and skills has been excellent, and has led to a great result for both teams.

The 2nd VI Volleyball team played some excellent volleyball through the summer season. Many of the players had opportunities to play in the 1st team, which showed the talent of the 2nd’s players. They had a
