Trinity Childcare Booklet
"Children need time and space to discover their world; let them have time and space to grow on their time." -Candie My husband Wil and I have been married for 27 years. We have raised four beautiful children together and are the proud grandparents of four amazing granchildren as well. Our youngest child still lives at home while he attends college. The rest of my children are happily married with families of their own. While my children were in elementary school I enjoyed my time on the parent council where I directed a headlice control committee. During my time on with the comittee I formulated my own headlice shampoo and conditioner kit which Westcoast Naturals took under their wings and widely produced to enable families to begin lice control at home. I also ran the F.A.S.T (Families and Schools Together) program through Family and Children Services and the school. F.A.S.T was a skill building program set up to help educate and foster healthly relationships within the community. The program also focussed on building leadership skills to help the children to grow into strong adults. Our home is a smoke free, pet friendly environment in Waterloo, Ontario. I have fostered with the KW Humane Society and currently have three mature cats. I am very passionate about animal welfare as well as nature and natural based products. I am an advocate for the use of essential oils and I make my own soaps here at home. I am a Reiki Master, Red Tent Facilitator, a certified Doula as well as a certified Breastfeeding Buddy. I value our community as a whole and am accepting and supportive of all religions, cultures and LGBTQ. All adults in my home have a police check and I am first aid certified. I aspire to return to school and become an Early Childhood Educator. Personal Philosophy: I feel that children should be given the opportunities to freely discover and be free thinkers. I believe that children should be given free will, to build on their prior knowledge. It is my feelings that children are not blank slates, they have a lot of experiences before coming into care. It is my goal to provide them with the bridges they need to explore. Child Care and Early Years Act: “Duty to disclose if not licensed 12. (1) Any person who does not hold a license shall, before providing child care in a circumstance described in paragraph 2 or 4 of subsection 6 (3), or, if relevant, in subsection 6 (4), disclose to the parent of the child, in a manner that may be prescribed, that the person does not hold a license. Duty to retain record of disclosure (2) A person who makes a disclosure in accordance with subsection (1) shall retain a record of the disclosure in a prescribed manner for at least the prescribed time period, or if no time period is pre-scribed, for at least two years from the date the disclosure is made.
According to the Law, Candie is acknowledging that: I am a private home childcare provider. At this time I am not licensed under the Ministry of Education or the Government. I will be applying to the region of Waterloo.
Education, Quality Matters and Redirection Beliefs: Quality Matters 1) Vulnerable Sector Check, on the entire family 2) Family and Children Service Check, on the entire family 3) TB Testing, on the entire family 4) Up to date vaccinations, on the entire family 5) Valid First Aid and CPR Candie utilizes the High Scope Philosophy of Redirection with the 6 Steps for Problem-Solving: This is achieved through love, consistency, and firmness. The home childcare does not use Time Out or Removal of Privileges, instead the concept of Time In, where the childcare provider will position herself into the situation by: 1) Approach calmly, stopping any hurtful actions 2) Acknowledge the children's feelings 3) Gather information 4) Restate the problem 5) Ask for ideas for solutions and choose one together 6) Be prepared to give follow-up support
As a last resort when a child's behavior is continually upsetting or dangerous to the provider or others, communication will be started with the parents. If the problems cannot be resolved, arrangements will have to be made for the child to go elsewhere for care. The ultimate goal is to have a healthy home-like environment where all the children within its umbrella are safe and secure. Please remember this is also OUR home and if your child is purposefully destroying items you may be asked for help in recovering those costs; even though the Trinity Childcare is insured with a Home Daycare Rider.
"I am a firm believer that each child grows develops and learns at their own pace. Encouraging children to wonder, explore, imagine, and discover the world around them is an essential part of their blooming personality, not to mention a solid partner in their education." -Candie 02
