“I learn from students and they learn from me. It’s great to watch them grow and develop. I love having an impact on their lives because I know they’re going to have an impact on other people’s lives. It has an expanding effect.” Blair Whitmarsh, Ph.D. Dean and Professor, School of Human Kinetics

“The purpose of a university education is to question and to think. But to be able to do that within a faith structure, in a supportive environment, is very empowering for students. Holly Faith Nelson, Ph.D. Department Chair and Professor, English

FACULTY OF HUMANITIES & SOCIAL SCIENCES Like nouns, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is all about people, places, and things. Interested in why we act the way we do? Think it’s important to study the past in order to create a better future? Excellent. You’re right where you belong.

Trinity is a fantastic place to feel secure enough in your faith, and in the people you live with, to be able to ask the hard questions about your beliefs and to tease out some of the more difficult aspects of being a Christian.

My introduction to chemistry research and education at Trinity Western has motivated me to further my studies with graduate school. My end goal is a career that has a balance between research and education. I’m grateful that TWU gave me experience in both of these fields, with opportunities to teach freshman chemistry labs and complete research in France during the summer.

SCHOOL OF THE ARTS, MEDIA + CULTURE As a highly creative individual, you’re looking for a rich and stimulating academic community of likeminded people who want to engage and develop their own personal voices. The School of the Arts, Media + Culture (a.k.a. SAMC) is where you want to carve out your niche.

With TWU’s liberal arts education, I’ve been able to develop many gifts, qualities, traits and characteristics I didn’t know I had. SCHOOL OF EDUCATION Want to make a difference in the lives of children and young people? Whether you plan to become a certified teacher or an instructor in communitybased environments, you’ll be well supported on your journey to becoming a knowledgeable, competent, reflective, and compassionate educator.

My TWU education has definitely prepared me for wherever I teach in the future, perhaps overseas in an orphanage or in an international school. My TESOL and education classes have given me the practical tools I’ll need in the classroom, and my experience as a whole has shaped me into the person I am today. (Cheesy, I know. But it’s true!)

My nursing education has shaped my practice to center my care around the person (as opposed to just the illness) of a patient. I also learned the value of walking alongside an individual in duress, and being a presence of peace and stability for them. “I’m going on to pursue a future in dentistry at UBC in the coming year with a goal to serve both locally and on the mission field abroad. “One of the things I loved about Trinity was the abundance of opportunities for students to be involved on campus. The size, culture, and community at TWU enables students to take responsibility in meaningful ways, providing an incredible training ground for both service and leadership. My experience at TWU helped me develop the confidence to venture outside my comfort zone, confront big challenges, and dream big about how communities can impact the world.” Jeremy Vallerand ’05 Kirkland, WA President, Rescue: Freedom International BA Business Administration

Jeremy met Beth and David Grant, the founders of Rescue: Freedom International, in India in 2008. He was profoundly impacted when they drove him through the red light district of Mumbai and then took him to visit a home where rescued women and children received care. The contrast between fear and hope, exploitation and freedom, made a lasting impression on him, and he left determined to fight against sexual slavery. Jeremy now serves as the president of the organization, and continues the fight against human trafficking and exploitation. Learn more about Jeremy’s work at rescuefreedom.org.
