Academic Mentors Learn from professors who are experts in their fields—and who care about you and are invested in your future. TWU profs are always happy to talk, share advice, and listen to your ideas.

“I learn from students and they learn from me. It’s great to watch them grow and develop. I love having an impact on their lives because I know they’re going to have an impact on other people’s lives. It has an expanding effect.” Blair Whitmarsh, Ph.D. Dean and Professor, School of Human Kinetics

“The purpose of a university education is to question and to think. But to be able to do that within a faith structure, in a supportive environment, is very empowering for students. Holly Faith Nelson, Ph.D. Department Chair and Professor, English

FACULTY OF HUMANITIES & SOCIAL SCIENCES Like nouns, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is all about people, places, and things. Interested in why we act the way we do? Think it’s important to study the past in order to create a better future? Excellent. You’re right where you belong.

Learning happens beyond the classroom at TWU. The University has taught me to admire the beauty in uncovering the mysteries around and within me, and to be comfortable with accepting that not every mystery is meant to be revealed.

FACULTY OF NATURAL & APPLIED SCIENCES Whether you intend to advance your understanding of cancer, unearth ways to better care for our planet, or set yourself up well to get into medical school, you’ll want to be here. You’ll be equipped to make an impact on society by developing strong critical thinking and first-rate practical skills.

My introduction to chemistry research and education at Trinity Western has motivated me to further my studies with graduate school. My end goal is a career that has a balance between research and education. I’m grateful that TWU gave me experience in both of these fields, with opportunities to teach freshman chemistry labs and complete research in France during the summer.

My nursing education has shaped my practice to center my care around the person (as opposed to just the illness) of a patient. I also learned the value of walking alongside an individual in duress, and being a presence of peace and stability for them. The liberal arts component of my education solidified what it means to live as a Christian, and the importance of being a presence of love and service to others in every aspect of my life. “I’m going on to pursue a future in dentistry at UBC in the coming year with a goal to serve both locally and on the mission field abroad. Although I struggled in my first year, the TWU faculty was a huge encouragement during this time, providing extra help and assurance. Most importantly, the friends that I made have pushed me to improve and really exemplified what it means to both live and lead with integrity.” Jon Chan ’15 photo courtesy of twu pillar yearbook
