HELLO! Architecture is a way of life which I’m very passionate about. The dialog between art and technics has always been daring for me. I have been fullfiled with dreams and ideas since I was a kid. I grew up loving to share my ideas through skecthes, drawing, visual graphics, writings, and even speeches. I got in touch with Architecture education formally through Universitas Islam Indonesia. Of all the dream I have, my main dream is to create an architecture that is for everybody. No gap needed in enjoying and experiencing good architecture. This portfolio is my footprints in achieveng that goal.

DAPULO Hostel & Market. DAPULO Hostel & Market is a mixed-use thematic marketplace with a hostel. This thematic market theme “Eat What You Buy which means visitors can cook/process directly the food they buy in this market. This concept is integrated with its own hostel. Visitors to the hostel are designed to be self-sufficient in meeting their food needs. They can meet their food needs through food provided in the market and process them as they please. But for those who do not like / able to cook, they can meet their food needs through foodcourt service. This is a form of effort to create a low budget hostel. Hostel DAPULO itself is designed specifically for the backpacker so urgent to apply the concept of low-budget independent.

Gading area is an area dominated by settlers so it can be said that the site is surrounded by districts. In response to this, usually, the district area is not far in fulfilling one of their primary needs is food. So we need a market that focuses to meet food needs and can easily be accessed by anyone around the district. With this, we can make the market as a food centre community around it. Target market visitors mostly are residents around. The population will be the main factor in prospering this DAPULO market. This market is planned to meet the needs of two different activities of hostels and markets. Therefore, to be able to unify the activities of these two concepts. We can examine what the needs of both parties alike. Then put them in one space. Therefore, it can be concluded that can be a liaison between two elements of this concept is the kitchen. Humans need whatever food happens. So do

not be surprised if we put the kitchen as the centre of activities. Here both the market and the hostels need to meet their food needs. So with the existence of this public kitchen, they can process what they like here.

Masjid Mandala Brasilia. Islam appeared when aqidah ummah in his time was in the worst era. The behaviour of the ummah in those days did not reflect the real humanity where violence, crime, and poverty were rampant. But with the presence of Islam, the guidance of the Prophet Muhammad SAW ummah in his time to achieve glory. This is proof that Islam is present as the solution of the problem, especially the social problem relating to aqidah. Brazil is a country with quite bad social problems. The need for education about the justification of aqidah is necessary for this country. So that Islamic Center will be a place of their education to become a more cultured society from now.

Ratmakan Kampung Syntax. Kampung had the elements that provides sustainable and liveable living. For so long kampung had been living in dense area where creativity needs to be done in order to manipulate the limited space between public and private space. The product of those creativity creates unique kampung syntax that exists to fulfil diverse purposes and necessity. The role of community might be more important rather than the government or planner itself. Kampung had develop their own syntax where the implementation of western theory may not work in the area. Kampung itself usually emerge along river. But as Yogyakarta becomes denser, local river cannot accommodate people basic needs anymore making kampung spreads closer to the river. One of those communities is Ratmakan kampung that exist beside Code river. As time goes by, the density cannot be controlled anymore which leads to low availability of space and land. Low availability of land made people see floodplain as an option. The area which the flood used to be is now inhabited. People build dikes to prevent flood penetrating the area but the dike stand as barrier made the relation

between the river and the people weaker. People used to depend on river for social space, playscapes, hobby and their communal living. Their life is connected to the river. Now, the river has completely ignored. The dike also kills the riverside ecology. Rocks, soils and plants are replaced by concrete which doesn’t sustain the ecology of the river. Fishes and birds cannot be seen anymore because their homes got replaced by concrete walls. The Code river now exist only as a source of wet waste from the city and a source of flood disaster. The methods used for this work is by data gathering through in-depth interviews and literature studies, analyses through design precedents and cases, explore through sketches, 3D, and space syntax simulation and designing through participatory and open approach. The main idea is to sustain the character of Ratmakan kampung due to the high density and flood vulnerable in the area. The end goal is to revitalize the liveable Ratmakan kampung and Code river and to program the future development for resilient vertical kampung housing towards density and flood.

Concept Project The big concept of the proposal is (the)tangga sungai. It is form of worldplay “tetangga”. Tetangga means neighboor. People used to hold dear their neighboor like family. Neighboor is not only someone that leaves nearby but also someone that will care for you. This proposal aims to reconnect and heal the bond between community of Ratmakan and Code river as neighboors. “Tangga” itself means stairs. Stairs in Indonesia are very common in the past architectures of Indonesia. There is even a term of “rumah tangga” that holds meaning of household. It explains how close and special are stairs in the past. (the)tangga project comes with three scale of intervention that focuses on a community-river relation. The main idea is to tackle the existing problems by reconnecting the bond between river and community and upgrade it through

long time. The recent constructions of high rise buildings make ground water harder to find. Thus, living in Ratmakan kampung becomes harder everyday. This poject exist to see river as oppurtunity. Allowing Ratmakan people to experience high quality of space by interacting with river again and to verticalize the existing to control density. Resilient Riverside In Bali, Indonesia, they see river as a source of gift. While in Ratmakan kampung they see it as a source of disaster. By acting the right way, we can see that river holds so many gift to the quality of life. We can do our hobby, play or just relax. But the problem Goals nowadays are flood. Flood comes when Liveable Kampung Having such low quality of space there’s human error or just natural selection. makes the people of Ratmakan hold The challenge is to restore the river’s ecology, Healthy Environment depressions in space. Not only that, about 40% of the total site in Ratmakan kampung Having so many westwaste through doesn’t have any sufficient infrastructure the houses makes Ratmakan people’s health like water. They hold onto wells for such a questionable. Water intervention needs to be urban housing and landscape. The basic concept is to restore and expand the river’s floodplain area by integrating it with the housing, creating floodplain architecture. The houses could provide the need of open & green space through its roof and wall for the community and the river’s original floodplain will be provided for the public. The housing are connected and supporting each other through levels of pathway so that social interactions are preserved. Floodplain architecture enables river to sustain its ecology even in the middle of urban density.

done to ensure the healthyness. Community Empowerment One of the people of Ratmakan problems is that they cannot find any place/ space to express their feeling. A place to promote social activities would be nice so that the community can be empowered. Project Vission The existence of river in urban scale can be a burden as long as the scale concerned is only focused on human. Multiple scale needs to be concerned to reach mutual benefits. Floodplain architecture is a system to integrate nature and architecture also to restore relation between community and river. It stands as a prototype model for all the near case area. It is expected that the prototype could transform riverside urban area into liveable and resilient place for human, flora and fauna.

Space Syntax Analysis Space syntax analysis is conducted to determined the best spatial configuration for Ratmakan kampung. By sampling from the macro scale (Code river) to the micro scale (Deep Ratmakan), Ratmakan kampung position regarding it’s spatial position is considerated. Numbers of spatial experimental is conducted to find the best new open path to stimulate Ratmakan into inclusive to outside the kampung. Pilihan 1 is considered to be the best spatial interventions which its influence could connect the vibrant in deep Ratmakan with the protocol road, St, Suryotomo.

Ratmakan Vertical Kampong. It has long lived in a crowded area where creativity is needed to manipulate the limitations of space between public and private. The product of the creativity creates unique village configuration blocks that are present to meet diverse needs and goals. They have organized the community without help from the local government. Keeping the important DNA that makes a place can be said as a village. One such community is the village of Ratmakan that is on the riverbank Code. As time goes by, density becomes more difficult to control, which makes the availability of space and soil less. This causes the community to choose watershed (Watershed) as a choice to occupy where the watershed is flood-prone areas. As time passes, density increases and waste discharged into the river increases. The increasing population that inhabits the watershed makes communal activity narrower. Code River is now only acting as a waste disposal and a source of the flood disaster. The methods used in this project are data collection through in-depth interviews and literature review, analysis through

a case and case studies, exploration through sketches, 3D and space syntax simulations and design through participatory and open design approaches. Space syntax approach is done to determine the DNA in Ratmakan village which will be considered as a design variable. The main idea is to preserve the village character of Ratmakan and apply the concept of M3K and Space Syntax. The ultimate goal is to revitalize Ratmakan’s village and Code river life and program future development to create a resilient vertical village of density and flooding.

Among those who enjoy the pleasure of being in this city are children. Children are known as fast learners. Their learning methods are diverse but most effective from reading. So the child can learn quickly under any circumstances. In this case, cultural learning should be focused on the child. Because in addition to their ability to catch more quickly. Padhang Bulan Playgroup. Based on TOR Archfest 2016, children are the next generation of the nation. Their growth process will affect the formation of character and personality in the future. Therefore, the child’s growing environment needs attention so that they become human beings who are independent, active, and creative. It is our responsibility as an architect to facilitate it. Containers to facilitate the growth and development of children is very important, especially at a very early age because the early education is what will be the foundation of the character of the child’s life forward. According to research from the Toronto District Board. An early child learns through play. From the play, they will hone the 4 basic points of physical, social, emotional and cognitive. This is the 4th point of the Design Framework for the design of this Pre-School Age School’s educational facility. In addition to developing the child’s physical and mental potential, identity recognition is also important as we live in a rich and culturally diverse region. Simple learning on tolerance and respect becomes very important. From this introduction, the child will understand the location of his identity so that the pride of Indonesia can grow. Given also the rapid flow of global information often raises a sense of pessimism towards Indonesia. Though Indonesia will progress like other countries if their children want and proud to promote Indonesia.

Kudus Cultural Landscape. Indonesia is a country that has various cultures and is rich in history. 34 provinces in Indonesia must have their own characteristics and certainly has a unique culture. With Indonesia’s rich history and culture, Indonesia has great potential to develop the cultural and historical tourism sector. But as the times progressed, the cultures that characterized a city began to slowly erode by globalization. Local tourists no longer look for historical elements in big cities, but look for malls and other commercial urban elements. With the abundance of potential in Indonesia, it would be nice if there is a public facility in the middle of the city that functioned as a cultural centre and history of the city.

Acculturation has accompanied the dynamics of the developmental journey of the Holy City for a long time and he has made Kudus as himself. It is recorded harmoniously in the architectural form of the Holy Tower Mosque and Kudus Traditional House. Acculturation in the architectural role is interpreted as a communication, collaboration and celebration.

50

Nizar Caraka Trihanasia

BACKGROUND & ISSUE

Gus-ji-gang (bagus-ngaji-dagang) is an ideology of the life of the Holy community in which the affairs of religion / hereafter and the world / business must be balanced and mutually sustainable. This is one of the collaborative concepts of sacred and profane. The spirit of religion and trade is a reflection of the former Holy community with Sunan Kudus as a figure. Various crafts are widely developed in Kudus such as embroidery and woodcarving. After the death of Sunan, Mosque Tower of Kudus visited as many places of pilgrimage tomb. There are about 500 thousand more tourists each year according to BPS Kudus. This phenomenon shows how religious culture in Kudus is very powerful as well as a tourism phenomenon (pilgrims tourism). Unfortunately, this is not supported by the growth of economic activities of the community. Yet this is the foundation of a culture’s sustainability.

Craft embroidery and wood carving is now slumped and lost prestige as the prima donna City of Kretek. Reliance on this industry makes the interest of trading / entrepreneurship decreased. Although it can not be denied, this industry has a big contribution to the progress of the city, but this has the potential to eliminate the culture in the middle of the activities of the Holy community. Without a powerless and selfreliant society, they can not determine for themselves where their culture will develop.

WHY ACULTURATION DIALOG? WHY CULTURAL LANDSCAPE?

Based on the phenomenon that occurred above, seen the existence of a continuity between religious culture (sacred) and economic culture community (profan). Though both must support each other and sustainable (gus-ji-gang) so as to create a sustainable development. With an acculturation dialogue that is interpreted as communication, collaboration

and celebration, the expectation of various existing religious culture and grow in society can be utilized optimally to support people’s economy and vice versa. In addition, the old, present and future cultures can blend harmoniously. To achieve the acculturation dialogue, the cultural landscape or spatial approach tries to interpret it architecturally or spatial through the cultural activities of the community. A dialogue between culture and man, old and new, sacred and profane is interpreted architecturally. With the approach of cultural landscape or spatial culture of architectural products produced more flexible and dynamic according to the culture that developed in society without eliminating one of them.

(THE)TANGGA SUNGAI. Kampung Ratmakan is a place where so many immigrants gather to live in Yogyakarta. As time goes by, the density cannot be controlled anymore which leads to the low availability of space and land. Low availability of space creates depressions that can lead to a criminal act, people cannot express themselves in a space that doesn’t exist. Low availability of land made people see floodplain as an option. The wrong usage of floodplain made the site vulnerable to flood. People build dikes to prevent flood penetrating the area but it made the relation between the river and the people weaker. People used to depend on the river for social space, playscapes, hobby, and their communal living. Their life is connected to the river. Now, the river has completely ignored. Fishes and birds cannot be seen anymore because their homes get replaced by concrete walls. The Code river now exist only as a source of wet waste from the city and a source of a flood disaster. Uncontrolled Density

There are total 40 houses on site that violates the setbacks which becomes problems for the immigrants themself because of flood vulnerable. Through participatory design approach, houses that violates the setbacks will be integrated with those who don’t, creating Share House. The main idea is to build a sense of community and to deepen the bond for mutual benefits. Public spaces cannot accomodate the needs of many. Social interactions only happen in small circles within the small space that leads to so many circles within the community. Many circles then leads to social gaps that hampers the kampung to unite. Social depressions happened to the point where depressive act towards children are common. River becomes an opportunity to remediate the depression.

Social Depression

(the)tangga project comes with three scale of intervention that focuses on a community-river relation. The main idea is to tackle the existing problems by reconnecting the bond between river and community and upgrade it through urban housing and landscape. The basic concept is to restore and expand the river’s floodplain area by integrating it with the housing, creating floodplain architecture. The houses could provide the need of open & green space through its roof and wall for the community and remediate social depression that has been happening. Floodplain architecture enables river to sustain its ecology even in the middle of urban density. (the)tangga is implemented by linking floodplain architectures level by level like stairs, making Rumah Tangga system. The linkage stands as collective shared space that provides circulation, infrastructures, and activities for the people of Ratmakan. The linkage also supports the relation between kampung Ratmakan and Code river in sustaining the ecology. It manages the waste that will end to the river and enables the people of Ratmakan to access the river again, revitalizing Code river that has been dead for the past decades.

MULTIPLE SCALE, MULTIPLE NECESSITY

The proposal doesn’t run only to provide physical renewal but also to review the systems regarding disaster mitigation, waste management and also the impact between authorities & stakeholders that involved. As the scale becomes bigger, the involved stakeholders become wider and varying. The connection between the stakeholders become more complex as they have their own necessity in the area. The role of stakeholders needs to be programmed so that they can support the proposal well.

PLUG-IN. HAEBANGCHON AGING-FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT A challenge for the competition is to formulate an updated vision of a more organic city, in which humans are but one among many participants in the intricately intertwined spectrum of life. For non-human animals to occupy a more visible place in our cities, we need to reprioritized our urban infrastructures. The modern city’s obsession with hygiene and sterility will be challenged by adpating a new filter of animality for assessing the biosynthetic sustainability of a new habitat, conceived as a demonstration of posthuman urbanity. The main goal of the international competition, sponsored by the UIA World Congress, Seoul 2017, is to solicit new visions for a central site in Seoul, with a particular focus on biosynthetic ecology as a vehicle for urban regeneration. The Metropoplitan Government of Seoul has recently shifted its direction for urban growth toward a more socially sustainable model of urban regeneration, encouraging the residents and community groups to initiate change from the bottom up. The competition expects to generate thoughtful and provocative ideas for Haebangchon, which is a village on Namsan and one of the most important regeneration sites in Seoul.

Due to their physical limitiation, they cannot cope up with the fast-flowing activity that is usually the need to survive in Seoul. They only hope is their surroundings. One group of elderly to another started to build their own socialprivate circle in order to survive. Some would say that those people deserves to live hard because of what they took when they are younger. But let’s say that Haebangchon Future prepared chances for them to give. The project promotes aging in place where people in old age doesn’t need to worry being left out. By combining the physical and social needs, community will be developed. A community itself wont survive well without a well organized, healthy and sustainable neighboorhood. So the idea is to swift the needs to life individually into communally. Vessel is needed to run the project while space are scarce in the site. The project will run on the only space available which are alleys, streets and sky. 1. Develop meaningful relationship between residents 2. Nurture multi-stakeholder collaboration 3. Multi-generational collaboration 4. Draw various of resources into the area 5. The Masterplan of the Kalpataru Corridor adapts the concept of the mountains that have been previously applied. In the Kalpataru Corridor design, the strength of the “gunungan” meaning is reinforced in various aspects so that the position of the “gunungan” concept in the design of public areas becomes stronger. Gunungan has a very deep meaning of teaching value in every movement or treatment. It is present as a symbol of the creation of nature and human life so that its position shows the purpose of life. Gunungan itself has a strong role as the background of the scene of life. The strongest axis of the Kalpataru Corridor adapts the position of Pathet Sanga, a state in which the mountains are positioned perpendicular to the “Pathet”, this position indicates the human state that has matured and wanders in life seeking the meaning of life and spirit. Similarly, the position of an airport where it becomes a wandering space between different cultures.
