What I found was a genuine and humble person, who has such a grounded perspective on family, life and work that he cannot help but succeed. Frichette Winery - Welcome to the Red Mountain AVA Greg and Shae Frichette took a chance. They decided to do what so many of us dream about, talk about, think about and yet rarely find the courage to do. They dreamed to push out of their comfort level, out of their circle of friends and geography to move to South Eastern Washington and open a winery. Big dreams indeed, however after spending some time with the Frichette’s, you learn that words such

as ‘challenging, impossible and too much effort’ don’t resonate in their world. Moving from the sunny and warm confines of Orange County, California was a big step and one that wasn’t taken lightly by the Frichette’s. They had great corporate jobs, a nice home and friends. Great people, check. Great summer weather, check. Great winter weather, well that can be a roll of the dice, so Greg simply skipped that time of year and Shae was ready 8

Ethos Bakery Setting a Higher Standard I met with the owners of Ethos Bakery to learn a little bit about their story and to, of course, sample some of their delectable bakery items. Ethos was founded on and continues to operate based on a simple philosophy – strive for excellence, and constantly push the boundaries for greatness – in the end product, customer service, community impact, and business operations. This may sound cliche’ but owners Scott and Angela have a profound and passionate belief that this approach has been essential to their success. “When we put something out there, we want it to be the best it can be; but we also want feedback from our customers so that we can continue to improve. If we are serious about great food – or really, any venture - then for us, there is no other way.” What began as a conversation over dinner about what they would do if they weren’t doing their day jobs; Ethos has evolved into more than a bakery, offering culinary delights that range from pizza to Sunday Suppers (five course wine dinners held twice monthly). Let’s not forget their rustic pastries and breads! I’ve tried everything from their pastries to the Sunday Supper and the quality is exceptional. Rarely a week goes by when I’m not eating at or taking food home from Ethos. Their baked goods can be found at area coffee shops and wineries, and the pizza and dinner menu are served Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings from 4-9 pm at their Horn Rapids facility. Saturday mornings the bakery opens at 9 am for freshly baked pastries and breads.

The best news? They are expanding rapidly by recently completing the purchase of Finnegan Frost in South Richland. They also plan to build a full scale restaurant and cafe’ in the near future. Finnegan’s operations will remain largely the same, with Ethos

was presented, but the other part was from the owners unique philosophy that everyone should try on at least one thing they’d never normally wear. I took this advice to heart, although I was a bit skeptical, and tried on a pair of ornate orange, brown and white printed leggings. I felt a grin appear on my face as I realized I felt young, alive and excited about what I was wearing. This was something I’d not felt for some time, after wearing only black for almost a decade. I wear those leggings every week now, and get compliments on them every single time. They’ve become one of my favorite garments. Since shopping at the Pink Pearl, I’ve been buying other colorful and unexpected pieces as well. The owner not only knows how to buy amazing collections that are inspirational to be around when shopping, she also knows how to buy pieces that are wearable.
