The Roseland students’ contribution runs throughout the life of the college and into the wider community. Student Voice is heard through the Learning Detectives who contribute to teaching and learning issues. It drives any new building initiatives such as the eLearning Centre for which the students designed the wonderful internal décor, layout and art work.
Students have an input into policy making such as the Anti-Bullying Policy and sit on the Curriculum Review Group. The Student Council plays a crucial role in the appointment of new staff, subjecting candidates to a high-quality, searching interview as part of the selection process. Fundraising for a variety of causes is an ongoing feature of college life, with large amounts being raised through non-uniform days, fetes and sponsored
events for causes such as the Haiti and Precious Lives Appeals which raised in excess of £2500. In 2010/11 students supported our senior students taking part in community projects in Uganda and Kenya and also raised funds for other chosen causes such as Help for Heroes. The students’ most recent challenge has been to contribute to the design of the new Dining Hall due for completion in October 2011 and incorporating flexible learning spaces

Students at the Roseland Community College have plenty of opportunities to experience the world of work through a number of days working on Wider Key Skills when, helped by outside agencies, small groups come up with marketing ideas and learn the skills needed to develop them. Young Enterprise students sell their products at exhibitions outside the college. All students organise a work experience placement for one or two weeks and some students have ongoing placements for one day a week. Careers advice is ongoing through PSHE/C and Connexions and some Year 10 and 11 students engage in vocational courses at The Roseland or at Truro or Cornwall College. Above - students, staff and former staff join forces in a whole school fund raising effort for Precious Lives.
