Birmingham, Ala. is a classic southern charm and hospitality city located in the heart of the Deep South. This vibrant and flamboyant, beautiful city is nuzzled in the rolling foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. It’s like a childhood memory walking in and sitting down at the bar. Watching shakes and malts being made with an old-fashioned milkshake blender will take you back in time. Green Valley Drugs has been an area tradition since 1961. The menu features sandwiches, such as burgers, baked ham, turkey, tuna salad, egg salad and pimento cheese. Homemade and canned soups are also available. Brio Tuscan Grille brings Italy to the Birmingham area. Located in the Brookwood Shopping Center, Brio has a way to draw you in. Weekend brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. and lunch is served weekly 11 a.m. -10 p.m. If you are looking for a night on the town or a filling brunch / lunch Brio has what your looking for.

For over 20 years, the restaurant has offered authentic Greek, Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. The atmosphere of the Café and Market offers an Old World feeling. Originally built in 1904, Vulcan, the Roman god of fire and forge, stands tall on Red Mountain overlooking the city. Vulcan Park and Museum is home to the largest cast iron statue in the world. A 10-acre developed green space surrounds the 56’ high statue and observation balcony that sits upon a 124’ pedestal. The Vulcan Center offers interactive demonstrations and displays that give insight into the areas history and industrial growth. Vulcan Park and Museum are open seven days a week from 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. Vulcan Center and Tower Observation Balcony are open Monday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 – 6 p.m. Come visit Vulcan to hear the story of Birmingham’s past, present and pledge for the future.
The Birmingham Zoo is one of Alabama’s most popular attractions. Each year it draws in more than 500,000 visitors. The zoo is home to approximately 800 animals at any given time of the year. In 1999, the Birmingham Zoo became an independent non-profit organization. Since then the zoo has hosted traveling exhibits, added permanent exhibits and regained accreditation with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park is home to 1500 acres. On Tuesday through Sunday the Iron and Steel Museum is open to view 19th century iron industry artifacts. Throughout the week, there are different demonstrations of trades used in the 1800s. The park offers fishing, buggy rides, mini railroad rides and horseback rides.
B’ham’s Out and In Doors
Oak Mountain State Park is Alabama’s largest state park. It offers an array of activities including: a demonstration farm, golf, picnicing, tennis, fishing, boating and a beach for swimming. The park is filled with 57 miles of hiking, bicycle and horseback riding trails. The park offers open-air camping or country cottages for rent. The Riverchase Galleria, locally known as The Galleria, offers exquisite shopping, incredible dining, lush lodging and a good time for everyone. The nine-story glass atrium featuring the world’s largest skylight is located in Hoover, Ala. The Galleria is Alabama’s largest enclosed shopping center with 1.9 million square feet. Currently, The Galleria is home to 218 stores and restaurants. It is located at the intersection of US 31 and Interstate 459.
