MEXICAN CARIBBEAN INTENSIFIES ACTIONS TO GUARANTEE VISITORS’ SAFETY The Mexican Caribbean is implementing preventive actions to ensure that the coronavirus conta-

gion curve remains under control, maintain the low level of hospital occupancy rate and advance in the economic recovery. Carlos Joaquín, governor of Quintana Roo, instructed the executive branch to strengthen programs aimed at health care, both for residents of Quintana Roo and visitors, according to a press release sent to TTC by that state’s Secretariat of Tourism. Likewise, the Secretariat called on businesspeople to commitment and solidarity in the responsible implementation of the protocols to avoid going back in the State Epidemiological Traffic Light color, which would mean the closure of businesses and sources of employment and a strong blow to the economy. The control of the health situation and the application of the protocols have given confidence to the Mexican Caribbean to receive a greater number of tourists. However, the governor recommended that the residents not relax the measures in order to maintain adequate health and a reliable destination, and to strictly comply with the sanitary regulations established to prevent the spread of COVID-19, under the slogan We’re counting on you for a safe vacation. Meanwhile, the Social Participation Links program was resumed in Tulum for the entire state: brigades of young people in charge of signaling and reminding people of the new hygiene habits. In addition, there is the Federal Vaccination Program, coordinated between the state and municipal governments, with the Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Sinovac vaccines pharmaceutical companies, which has given a certain priority to frontline health workers and the over-60 elderly people. On the other hand, with the objective of detecting adverse events in a timely manner and verifying that the protocols are complied with, the Coordination of Protection against Sanitary Risks (COFEPRIS) intensified in Quintana Roo the screenings of service providers, high concentration points and establish-

ments dedicated to the processing, sale and distribution of products for human consumption. These regulations are mandatory and establishments that do not comply with them will be suspended and subject to the corresponding administrative procedures. At the same time, COFEPRIS carries out weekly monitoring and sampling of the destination’s 28 public beaches. Results indicate that they are 100% suitable for recreational use; and the State Mobility Institute has intensified inspection filters, mainly in Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Holbox, Tulum, Bacalar and Mahahual. In the digital field, on the GUEST ASSIST platform, which provides permanent assistance to tourists and visitors, a section was set up with relevant information related to COVID-19, in order to prevent infections in the face of the holiday season. In addition, the Secretariat of Finance and Planning has implemented VISITAX, visitax.gob.mx, a technological tool to facilitate the payment of its use by foreign tourists who have vacationed in Quintana Roo, for the amount of $224 Mexican pesos, before and after/or during their stay; visitors who cross the southern border with Belize by land are exempt. To make the payment, travelers register their name, age, passport number and departure date, in a simple form, and download the receipt that must be shown at the airport before departure, and if not previously done, they will receive assistance for it at the airport. The Secretariat of Tourism promotes the destination’s tourist reactivation, in a gradual and orderly manner within the framework of the new normality, through the publication, in the Official Newspaper, of the Protocol for the Reopening of the Tourism Sector and the implementation of the Protection and Sanitary Prevention in Tourist Facilities Certification, with more than 7,000 registered companies.
