KHUITEN PEAK CLIMBING

Altai Tavan Bogd is the highest mountain in Mongolia and has massif-type. Tavan Bogd Mountain is located in BayanUlgii Province and its Khuiten Peak is the highest point of Mongolia at 4374 meters above sea level. Besides Khuiten peak, the mountain includes another four peaks – Nairamdal peak, Malchin peak, Burged peak and Ulgii peak. The Nairamdal Peak forms the border tr i point between Mongolia, Russia and China.

DAY 1 | Arrival in Ulaanbaatar Arrive in Ulaanbaatar and transfer to selected hotel. After check-in to hotel, we will do short city tour including Chinggis (Sukhbaatar) Square, Chinggis Khaan Monument, National History Museum and Zaisan Hill for panoramic view of the city. Overnight in selected hotel (L/D) DAY 2 | Ulaanbaatar – Ulgii town – Tsagaan Gol valley After breakfast, we will take flight to Ulgii town. Upon arrival in Ulgii town, we will drive directly to Tsagaan Gol valley towards the Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. On the way, we will have a picnic lunch. Overnight in tent (B/L/D) DAY 3 | Tsagaan Gol valley – Base camp Today, we will leave our vehicle in Tsagaan Gol valley and start our trekking towards Altai Tavan Bogd area. We will trek to Base camp about 17 km. Luggage will be carried on camels or horses. We will set up for the climbing and acclimatize around Base camp. Overnight in tent (B/L/D) DAY 4 | Base camp – Potanin Glacier – Khonog Tolgoi Early in the morning, we will walk around 12 kms through Potanin’s Glacier to advance to camp in Khonog Tolgoi. Arrive in Khonog Tolgoi and set up tent. Overnight in tent (B/L/D) DAY 5 | Khonog Tolgoi – Khuiten Peak – Base camp In the early morning, we climb to Khuiten Peak (4374 m above sea level). From the summit, you will get spectacular views into China, Russia and Mongolia. It is permanently covered with glaciers and snow. Then we will walk back to Base camp. Overnight in tent (B/L/D)


DAY 6 | Reserve day We will have a reserve day for mountain climbing to Malchin and Khuiten peak just in case of bad weather. Overnight in tent (B/L/D) DAY 7 | Base camp – Malchin Peak – Base camp We will climb to the Malchin peak (4050 m above sea level) and its elevation makes a good acclimatization day for mountain climbers and provides a long climb, mostly on screw and requiring no technical equipment. Come back to Base camp for overnight stay. Overnight in tent (B/L/D) DAY 8 | Base camp – Tsagaan Gol valley In the morning, we will walk back to Tsagaan Gol valley. In the afternoon, free time to relax. We can visit Tuva family to experience their nomadic lifestyle. Overnight in tent (B/L/D) DAY 9 | Tsagaan Gol valley – Ulgii town Drive back to Ulgii town. Visit to Kazakh families living in the countryside. Enjoy their hospitality and experience different culture and customs. Visit local museum and market. Overnight in local hotel (B/L/D) DAY 10 | Ulgii town – Ulaanbaatar Take a flight back to Ulaanbaatar and arrive at Chinggis Khaan airport. Transfer to hotel and check-in. In the afternoon, we will do short sightseeing tour including Bogd Khan Winter Palace Museum. In the afternoon free time for shopping and at leisure. Have a farewell dinner. TAIMEN FISHING TOUR The taimen (Hucho taimen) also known as Siber ian taimen and Siber ian salmon is a species of fish in the salmon family (family Salmonidae) of order Salmoniformes. In Mongolia, the taimen is found in both Arctic and Pacific drainages, specifically the Yenisei/Selenge, the Lena and the Amur River Basins. The taimen lives in flowing water and is only occasionally found in lakes usually near the mouth of a tr ibutary.

DAY 5 | Karakorum – Ugii Lake Drive to Ugii Lake in Arkhangai province. On the way, drive through ancient Turkic king Bilge’s memorial statue and the museum. Ger camp is located on the shore of Ugii Lake. You will visit a nomadic horse breeding family during the day. You will take the picture of their culture, life and the horses. The Ugii lake has a magnificent view and countless water birds will be at your doorsteps. Here you will take the pictures of the landscape. Enjoy short horse ride. Visit a local family and ride a horse for an hour. There are great opportunities for hiking, rock climbing and flower watching. Overnight in tourist GER camp (B/L/D) Day 3 | Gorkhi-Terelj National Park – Khar Zurkhnii Khukh Nuur Today, we will drive to the Khar Zurkhnii Khukh Nuur where Temujin was proclaimed Chinggis Khaan, ruler of the Great Mongolian State in 1189. This event and the lake are described in the Secret History of Mongols, historical chronicles written in the 13th century. The lake is located at 1675m above sea level. There are numerous flowers and plants growing in the Khan Khentii mountain range area where the lake is located. We will visit the Chinggis Khaan Statue complex on the way. Day 4 | Khar Zurkhnii Khukh Nuur We will continue our flower watching tour in the surrounding area. If the weather and the driving conditions permit, we can visit the Khangal lake located about 45km from the Khar Zurkhnii Khukh Nuur Lake and Baldan Bereeven Monastery in another 10km before returning to the ger camp. There are 3000 species of flower ing plants registered in Mongolia. Species representing Siber ian coniferous taiga forest, Central Asian steppe and desert, and the Altai and Sayan Mountains all occur here. Mongolia’s flora includes almost 150 endemic plants and nearly 100 relic species. Over 100 plant species are listed in the Mongolian Red Book as rare or endangered. After lunch, we will view a short documentary at the information hall. Then we will drive through the National Park to visit the ancient Turkic site of ancestral rites and see the human stones. Afterwards, we will drive back deep into the National Park to see an ancient burial site and a deer stone followed by a search of Przewalski horses (takhi), ancestor of all modern-day horses in the world. If you have binoculars, please bring them. Overnight in tourist GER camp (B/L/D) DAY 3 | Khustai National Park – Karakorum After breakfast, we will drive to Karakorum, once the capital of the 13th century Great Mongol Empire. Visit the Karakorum museum before dinner. Overnight in tourist GER camp (B/L/D) DAY 4 | Karakorum – Khushuu Tsaidam – Ugii Lake Today we will visit Erdene-Zuu Monastery, which was the first and the largest monastery in Mongolia built on the ruins of the ancient capital. After lunch, we will drive to Ugii lake. On the way, we will visit Khushuu Tsaidam, a historical site and a museum complex where we will learn about the rise and fall of the Turkic empire. Overnight in tourist GER camp (B/L/D) DAY 5 | Ugii Lake – Tsetserleg – Taikhar Rock After breakfast, we will drive to Tsetserleg, the Arkhangai province centre, where we will visit a local museum. We will continue our drive and will arrive at a ger camp for lunch. In the afternoon, we will see the Taikhar rock and then drive to an ancient site with petroglyphs carved on rocks by the ancestors of the nomadic warriors who built empires in the steppe. On the way back to our camp, we will see another remarkable burial site and a deer stone. Overnight in tourist GER camp (B/L/D)

DAY 6 |Taikhar Rock – Jargalantyn Am – Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake Today we will have a long drive to visit Jargalantyn Am valley, an impressive site with numerous burial mounds and deer stones left by the Xiongnu, ancestors of the modern-day Mongolians known as the Huns in the western world. We will drive to Terkhiin Tsagaan lake. Picnic lunch on the way. Overnight in tourist GER camp (B/L/D) DAY 7 | Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake – Jargalant Hot Springs Today we will climb the Khorgo extinct volcano crater, visit the one-man cave and the Yellow dog’s hell cave. Enjoy a short hiking around the lake shore before lunch at the ger camp. We will drive to Jargalant hot springs after lunch and enjoy a natural hot spa in the evening. Overnight in tourist GER camp (B/L/D) DAY 8 | Jargalant Hot Springs – Khuvsgul Lake Today we will drive to Khuvsgul lake. We will drive through Murun, the province centre and continue to the Uushgiin uvur site where we will see the unique deer stone with a human face carved on it. There are more deer stones on the way to the lake including the tallest deer stone discovered in Mongolia. Overnight in tourist GER camp (B/L/D) DAY 9 | Khuvsgul Lake Today we will relax after long days of driving. Optional boat ride, horse riding and hiking along the beautiful lake shore are available. You also can try yourself at fishing. Ask your camp staff for fishing equipment rental availability. Overnight in tourist GER camp (B/L/D) DAY 10 | Khuvsgul Lake – Ulaanbaatar After breakfast, we will drive back to Murun town to take flight to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar, visit a cashmere factory on a factory tour, followed by a visit to a factory outlet for cashmere shopping opportunity. Check-in to your hotel. Before dinner, we will enjoy Mongolian traditional folklore concert. Overnight in selected hotel (B/L/D) DAY 11 | Departure Check out from hotel. Transfer to airport. Departure (B)
