Victoria Falls, known locally as the ‘Smoke That Thunders, is located on the majestic Zambezi River within the boundaries of Zimbabwe and Zambia. Day 1, Thu 13th August

AUSTRALIA TO JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA Today we join our flights to Johannesburg. Our late afternoon Virgin Flight takes us into Perth where we connect with South African Airways onto Johannesburg.

Day 2, Fri 14 August.

EARLY ARRIVAL, JOHANNESBURG & SOWETO TOUR. Our flight is scheduled to arrive into Johannesburg early this morning. We have early check in at our nearby airport hotel. Later today we venture out on a half day tour of the many highlights of the fascinating Soweto neighbourhood, including Kliptown, an informal Shantytown. We visit the Hector Pieterson Museum depicting scenes leading up to the student uprising of 1976, Mandela House, and take a walk down Vilakazi Street to see Archbishop Desmond Tutu’ s house. Vilakazi Street is the only street in the world that has produced two Nobel Peace Prize Winners (Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu). Day 3, Sat 15 August.

Our early morning flight takes us to Victoria Falls, western Zimbabwe. We arrive at 1pm this afternoon. Our home for the next two nights is the spectacular Victoria Falls Hotel. Later this afternoon we enjoy a relaxing sunset cruise along the Zambezi River, with cocktails and canapes provided. We cruise along the river towards Palm Island and Kandahar Island, spotting hippos, elephants and other wildlife enroute. Sunsets in Africa are spectacular in colour. Day 4, Sun 16 August. VICTORIA FALLS.

This morning we join our local guide to explore the mighty Victoria Falls. Victoria Falls reaches its zenith about May each year. It is a truly awe-inspiring experience – the sight, the sound, the smell, and the humbling feeling - this is one of natures supreme masterpieces. We will be accompanied through the rain forest by our qualified guide, who will provide a brief history of the falls and the surrounding flora, fauna, bird and wildlife. LEWA WILDLIFE CONSERVANCY, This morning we take an exciting excursion to walk with NORTH KENYA. young lions in their own bush environment. This is a safe and amazing experience. You have many photo opportunities with the young lions, and will learn about their future existence in the wild. The walk is followed by a bush breakfast, before we return to our hotel. This afternoon, we take our flight back into Johannesburg. Unfortunately there is no through connection to Nairobi, so we overnight in Johannesburg. Day 6, Tue 18 August. NAIROBI

We take our flight to Nairobi, Kenya, arriving mid afternoon. Nairobi is the capital and largest city in Kenya. The name Nairobi translates to ‘the place of

This morning we fly out of Wilson Airport (Nairobi) to the far north of Kenya – here we start our safari experience, staying at the beautiful Lewa Safari Camp. The Lewa conservancy covers 265 square kilometres a vast wilderness. It has dramatic views to the south of snow capped Mt Kenya, and to the north down to the arid lands towards Ethiopia. There are many diverse habitats, from pristine forest, fertile grasslands, extensive springs and acacia woodland. We arrive in time for a beautiful lunch, and later this afternoon head out in our safari vehicles in search of the wildlife. Day 8, Thur 20 August LEWA WILDLIFE CONSERVANCY, NORTH KENYA.

Registered as a rhino conservancy in 1983, the conservancy is famous for its successful rhino and Grevy Zebra breeding - two endangered species. Day 9, Fri 21 August

LEWA WILDLIFE CONSERVANCY, NORTH KENYA. Sprawling over the Laikipia Plains, Lewa offers prolific wildlife - our morning and afternoon game drives will showcase the best of what this park has to offer. The game driving is outstanding with rhino, elephant, buffalo, the rare Grevy Zebra and resident predators, to a backdrop of beautiful views of snow capped Mt. Kenya. The advantage of being located in the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is that you are surrounded by rich game viewing opportunities without the crowds. MASAI MARA

Today we join our scenic flights as we head towards the Mara River and the Masai Mara National Reserve. This is more than the most popular Game Park in the world – it is often the reason why people come to Africa in the first place. The Masai Mara has a very rich concentration of animals. Once our flight lands, we are immediately on an exciting game drive. The locals call the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, ‘Mara’ meaning ‘spotted’, a modest description of the postcard scene of trees, scrub, savanna and cloud shadows that define the landscape in one of the world’ s most rewarding game experiences.

The annual migration will be underway, and we are here at the best time of the year to observe the migration of over a million animals as they wander across sweeping plains and the Mara River. The predators follow the food, and we will be on the lookout for lions, leopards and cheetah. We will maximise our time with morning and afternoon game drives. Day 11, Sun 23 August MASAI MARA

Today we visit a local Masai community - an authentic Masai experience. Our visit allows us to see the Masai as they traditionally live, as they invite us into their mud homes. The Masai are very proud people. We will be welcomed by the Village Chief before witnessing their unique dance and iconic jumping.

Later today we will head to the Mara River where we may be lucky enough to witness the herds of wilderbeest and possibily Zebra as they cross the crocodile infested Mara River. In the Mara River we can observe the many hippos as they snort and sunbathe, while the crocodiles watch on. The Mara hosts over 500 species of birds, including more than 50 Raptor species, and probably offers the greatest concentration of big game in the world. Day 13, Tue 25 August SERENGETI

The Serengeti is renowned for the part it plays in the Great Migration, when an estimated three million antelope, mostly wildebeest, migrate to Kenya’ s Masai Mara. We will explore by safari vehicle, the sprawling plains on exhilarating morning and afternoon game drives. For those who wish to indulge in a hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti plains, this can be organised today, approximate cost of USD575 per person.

We join our morning scenic flight into Tanzania’ s oldest and most popular national park. It is also a World Heritage Site and recently proclaimed a 7th worldwide wonder. 25% of the land mass of Tanzania is given to wildlife conservation. The Serengeti National Park, meaning‘endless plains’ in the Masai language, is undoubtedly one of the world’ s most celebrated wilderness areas, and is an ongoing source of inspiration to many writers, film-makers and photographers. We have morning and afternoon game drives.

Every game drive can reveal something different, as you may see the animals feeding, fighting, mating, drinking and encounter them in many different settings. The game viewing in Tanzania is outstanding. Every game drive has the capacity to amaze.


the‘Eighth Wonder of the World’, and is a ‘must see’ on anyone’ s itinerary. This extinct volcano - with its 18 kilometre wide crater floor – is home to an abundant and unique ecosystem that encompasses almost all the wildlife species that you would wish to see in Africa. This spectacular setting is a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity to experience the rawness and beauty of Africa’ s natural flora and fauna, inside a volcanic crater. The crater’ s high walls are a natural enclosure to vast numbers of animals. Amongst them are wildebeest, elephant, zebra, gazelles and lions, and many birds and hippos. Early this morning we descend by safari vehicle some 600 metres to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater, for a full day of safari viewing. We explore the forest areas inhabited by monkeys and elephants, the lake area where you may see the flamingos, and the open savannah where the lions hunt for food. This magnificent wildlife viewing area is home to the Big Five, plus a vast variety of plains game and birds. The Crater is home to more than 30,000 animals - and an area of spectacular beauty and excellent game viewing, a truly unique safari destination. This is the largest intact caldera in the world. TO NGORONGORO CRATER.

Today we take to the air once again, and head to Manyara airstrip, and our beautiful accommodation at the Plantation Lodge. As we drive from the airstrip to the Planatation Lodge, we will observe the local township with its bustling shops and markets, and the rich agriculture of the Rift Valley, including tea and coffee plantations. World-famous national parks like the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area house Africa’ s largest resident wild animal population. In close proximity to The Plantation Lodge, the Ngorongoro Crater offers unique nature experiences. We drive through the savanna in an open jeep, to see the animals in their natural habitat. We picnic at a safe location – these are the unforgettable moments of an African holiday. And when the ‘Big Five’ – buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard and rhino – show themselves, then the safari experience is particularly memorable. Day 16, Fri 28 August NGOROGORO CRATER VISIT

Our Safari drivers return us to Manyara airstrip, where we join our flight to Arusha, complete immigration and customs, and connect with our flight back to Nairobi, leaving Tanzania and re-entering Kenya. Tonight you may like to dine at the nearby famous Carnivore Restaurant (in the grounds of our Tamarind Hotel) which offers a stunning barbeque meal in an indoor/outdoor setting, complete with local music.

RETURN TO JOHANNESBURG and onto PRETORIA . We visit the unique Giraffe House this morning where we can hand feed the giraffes. We then visit a Bead Factory and later the Matt Bronze Sculpture workshop, display room and garden where we can purchase a light lunch before we check in for our flight to Johannesburg. Once we arrive into Johannesburg, we travel by coach for one hour to picturesque Pretoria for our overnight stay. ACCOMMODATION: The Premier Hotel, Pretoria. MEALS INCLUDED: Breakfast

Day 19, Mon 31 August. PRETORIA, JOIN THE BLUE TRAIN.

Our sightseeing this morning in Pretoria offers us the chance to stand in front of the heart of the country (Union Presidential Buildings and offices) overlooking a city built on passion and determination. Buildings are architecturally beautiful and a nation congregates around the statues of past leaders. We make a stop at Paul Kruger House, the last house where revered President Paul Kruger was to live, between 1883 and 1901. The beautiful Victorian style home was interestingly built using milk and concrete. We stop at Church Square (originally a market place where farmers would gather to observe Holy Communion). Now the square is dominated by a bronze statue of former president, Paul Kruger. We will see the huge and impressive Voortrekker Monument. This was built in honour of the great Voortrekkers (pioneers) who left the Cape during the period 1835 to 1954 to cut through the interior of the country in what became known as the Great Trek. Following our city tour we return to our hotel, prior to joining our luxury Blue Train this afternoon.

Day 20, Tue 1 September THE BLUE TRAIN JOURNEY

The Blue Train, a South African icon since its inception in 1946, is on most people’ s bucket list, as a ‘must do’ experience. With personal butler service and deluxe suite accommodation, the Blue Train offers a rail journey to remember. We travel along the historic route between Pretoria and Cape Town to experience (in style) the spectacular scenery en route. Kings and Presidents have travelled on this magnificent rolling five star hotel train and the name has become synonymous with the ultimate in train travel. Day 21, Wed 2 September ARRIVAL INTO CAPE TOWN

We travel some 1600kms, through some of the most diverse and spectacular scenery offered by the African sub-continent to arrive into one of Africa’ s most beautiful cities, Cape Town. The train arrives into Cape Town at 10.30am this morning. Our driver and coach will be waiting to take us on a city orientation tour. We explore the city of Cape Town, known affectionately as the Mother City. Our tour will take in the Houses of Parliament, and the Castle (built between 1666 and 1679) - this is South Africa’ s oldest building. We

visit the lively Greenmarket Square with its daily market, walk through the spectacular gardens and buildings of the Company Gardens. We see the colourful Bo-Kaap houses, home to the Cape Malay community, with its cobbled streets and brightly coloured houses. Day 22, Thur 3 September THE CAPE AND WINE LANDS

Today we head to the Cape of Good Hope, the most south-westerly point in Africa, to experience some of the most spectacular views in the world. Our tour begins with a scenic drive along the Atlantic Coast. We visit the Penquin colony at Boulders Beach. We drive onto Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope Nature reserve, where we will possibly sight some wildlife unique to the Cape. There are spectacular views of the Cape of Good Hope from the summit of Cape Point, where the peninsula juts into the sea. After lunch, we enjoy wine tasting at one of Stellenbosch’ s famous vineyards, before heading back into Cape Town. Day 23, Fri 4 September ROBBEN ISLAND.

This morning we visit Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated from 1964 to 1982. Our 30 minute ferry ride brings us to the island, where we visit the maximum security prison - our guide is an ex-political prisoner. The tour includes a visit to B Section, which held many leaders from different organisations, including the former President Nelson Mandela, who spent 18 years of his 27 years of incarceration on Robben Island. The tour takes in the historic village as well as key historic sites, including the prison house where Robert Sobukwe, (leader of the Pan African Congress) was held in isolation. We see the Lime Quarry, the Male Leper Church, the 19th century lighthouse, WW2 fortifications, the Garrison Church, the Commissioners Residence and much more. We may also see their small population of springbok and European fallow deer, and birdlife - perhaps ostriches, penquins, oyster-catchers and chukar partridges. Robben Island is now a National and World Heritage Site. During your free time this afternoon we suggest you visit Table Mountain (Weather Permitting). CANCELLATION FEES

If it is necessary for you to cancel your holiday, notification of cancellation must be received in writing. Cancellation charges will apply: up to 10 April 2020, loss of deposit. GENERAL TOUR INFORMATION CLOTHING AND LUGGAGE

Comfortable casual clothes are the general rule. Clothes should be light and loose fitting. Although weather will generally be warm, sometimes quite hot, you will need a warm coat for the cooler nights in East Africa. Women are requested not to wear revealing clothes. The international luggage allowance is 23 kilograms. Please restrict your luggage to one average size suitcase and one carry bag. Don’t forget your camera and binoculars.

PASSPORT AND VISAS

You must be in possession of a passport with 6 months validity beyond August 2020. If you are not using an Australian Passport please let us know so that we can advise you of your visa requirements. Visa requirements may vary according to the passport you are travelling on. Visa costs are additional to the advertised tour cost. Everyone must have a minimum of 4 blank pages in their passport.

HEALTH AND VACCINATIONS

Anti–malarial tablets are necessary in East Africa. Inoculation against Yellow Fever is required (exemptions can apply). You must have an International Certificate of Vaccination, showing details of the vaccination. Please consult your Doctor or the Travellers Medical and Vaccination Centre for any further information.

CURRENCY

In South Africa the currency is Rand, in Kenya the Kenyan Shilling, and in Tanzania the Shilling. We recommend that you take cash in small denominations in US dollars, South African Rand, Kenyan & Tanzania Shillings. Travel Masters is happy to organise your cash for you, ask for advice. Major international credit cards (Mastercards & Visa) are generally accepted in most areas on this tour but not everywhere.

ELECTRICITY

The voltage is 220-240 AC throughout.

TIPPING IS INCLUDED

Gratuities for guides, drivers, porters and waiters are a necessity. To avoid any embarrassment or problems, and help make your holiday "hassle free", we have included tipping for all included activities and meals in the itinerary. The amount is in line with international tipping standards. The Tipping Pool will be administered by the Tour Manager on behalf of the group.

ITINERARY/HOTEL CHANGES

From time to time, changes may be required to the advertised accommodation and itinerary. If this is required, it will be communicated to you by the Tour Manager who will make the decision on the changes in conjunction with our tour operators. We reserve the right to change hotels if necessary. The tour will be accompanied by an experienced Travel Masters agent. We reserve the right to change tour leaders if circumstances so dictate.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

You must have comprehensive travel insurance which covers cancellation charges in the event of illness preventing you from travelling, overseas medical and hospital expenses, personal baggage, accidental death, personal liability and much more. We will be happy to organise insurance for you.

DEPOSITS AND FINAL PAYMENT

A deposit of $2,000 per person is required to secure your place. We will send an account in late March setting out full account details. Final payment is then required by 10/04/20. We have striven to keep the tour costs as low as possible and the tour price quoted is a cash/cheque price. No allowance has been made for credit card charges. If payment by credit card is preferred, a card service fee will apply. Due to the volatility of the currency exchange rates, we reserve the right to adjust the final tour price to reflect movement in overseas currency rates against the Australian dollar, if necessary.

LANGUAGE

Language in East Africa is English and Swahili - South Africa is English, Afrikaan & Zulu.

SINGLE ROOM SUPPLEMENT

In the event that you are a sole traveller and would prefer to share, we will do our best to arrange a twin-share companion.

BUSINESS CLASS UPGRADE - $3,900 – all SAA flights.

Business Class upgrades are available on the SAA International flights subject to availability and price at time of booking. PRICE SHOWN IS AN INDICATION ONLY.

ADVERTISED PRICE EXCLUDES

Meals other than specified, Visas, insurance, fuel surcharges, items of a personal nature such as drinks, laundry, phone calls etc and any additional optional excursions. All costs are subject to surcharges which may occur in connection with governmental action, currency exchange fluctuations or increase in supplier’s costs i.e. scheduled air fares, entrance fees etc. Cost based on minimum of 10 adults travelling together. Should this number of persons not be attained, we reserve the right to cancel, amend or re cost the tour program.

PLEASE NOTE – DEGREE OF FITNESS

All Travel Masters itineraries are carefully planned and well-paced to maximise the passenger experience, while at the same time ensuring a level of comfort is maintained at all times. Given the nature of the journeys and cultural experiences etc, any person/s of a reasonable general fitness level will have no problems in gaining total satisfaction from the trip. Should any person however not be able to carry your own luggage, easily walk up flights of stairs, walk over uneven surfaces, or be likely to find it necessary to require wheelchair assistance, it is unfortunately considered that participation on this tour would not be appropriate.
