the‘Eighth Wonder of the World’, and is a ‘must see’ on anyone’ s itinerary. This extinct volcano - with its 18 kilometre wide crater floor – is home to an abundant and unique ecosystem that encompasses almost all the wildlife species that you would wish to see in Africa. This spectacular setting is a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity to experience the rawness and beauty of Africa’ s natural flora and fauna, inside a volcanic crater. The crater’ s high walls are a natural enclosure to vast numbers of animals. Amongst them are wildebeest, elephant, zebra, gazelles and lions, and many birds and hippos. Early this morning we descend by safari vehicle some 600 metres to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater, for a full day of safari viewing. We explore the forest areas inhabited by monkeys and elephants, the lake area where you may see the flamingos, and the open savannah where the lions hunt for food. This magnificent wildlife viewing area is home to the Big Five, plus a vast variety of plains game and birds. The Crater is home to more than 30,000 animals - and an area of spectacular beauty and excellent game viewing, a truly unique safari destination. This is the largest intact caldera in the world. Some maintain that before it erupted, it would have been higher than Mt Kilimanjaro. ACCOMMODATION: Plantation Lodge MEALS INCLUDED: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and all drinks.
TO NGORONGORO CRATER.
Today we take to the air once again, and head to Manyara airstrip, and our beautiful accommodation at the Plantation Lodge. As we drive from the airstrip to the Planatation Lodge, we will observe the local township with its bustling shops and markets, and the rich agriculture of the Rift Valley, including tea and coffee plantations. World-famous national parks like the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area house Africa’ s largest resident wild animal population. In close proximity to The Plantation Lodge, the Ngorongoro Crater offers unique nature experiences. We drive through the savanna in an open jeep, to see the animals in their natural habitat. We picnic at a safe location – these are the unforgettable moments of an African holiday. And when the ‘Big Five’ – buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard and rhino – show themselves, then the safari experience is particularly memorable. ACCOMMODATION: Plantation Lodge MEALS INCLUDED: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and all drinks.
