ADULT BEGINNER WEEKS You might just be reading this as a non-skier who’s fed up with missing out on the fun of a ski holiday, or maybe you’re a skier with non-skiing friends who you’d like to invite to join you.

Welcome As we move from one holiday season to the next, I’m already looking forward to my week on the slopes with the chance to enjoy a little après-ski and indulge in a little pampering. Chalet Hotel Aiguille Percée Gets A Facelift We think that you’ll be delighted with the results of the €3 million that have been invested in giving Chalet Hotel Aiguille Percée, in Tignes Le Lac, a significant makeover during the summer months. It’s one of our best loved destinations and now is the perfect time to choose it for your next skiing holiday and enjoy the property in all its new splendour.

From Jonny Wilkinson and his Toulon team mates to the French pole vault team – they all come to Tignes to improve their endurance and fitness levels.

Better bedrooms Comfort levels are better than ever with all the original rooms updated in a modern rustic style, the majority with brand new bathrooms and digital flat screen TVs featuring 20 British channels. 13 new bedrooms have been added including those that can be booked as interconnecting and family suites. It’s certainly busy times at Aiguille Percée but there’s no chance that you’ll run manager Matt Davis off his feet during your stay. Earlier in the year, keen sportsman Matt strode confidently through the city streets in the London Marathon and four hours and seven minutes later, the not-so-solid gold medal was his.

Tignes centres around three small villages sitting high above the tree line. Our chalet hotels can be found nestled in the villages of Tignes Le Lac and Le Lavachet, forming part of the Espace Killy ski area.

Tignes provides a huge variety of terrain for skiers and boarders from challenging off-piste powder to leisurely cruising runs. The long runs down to Tignes-les-Brévières are a popular choice, home to many restaurants, perfect for lunch on the terrace.


One for younger family members. Come and improve your tricks on the new rails of the Snowpark in a super cool atmosphere – all levels welcome. With 10 new snow guns there’ll be plenty of snow for shaping new modules to keep the park fresh. Cheese Fondue Recipe


As the outside temperature drops and another ski season approaches, recreate the traditional Alpine atmosphere at home with this classic cheese fondue. Since its heyday nearly forty years ago, this cheesy classic is enjoying a revival as a trendy party dish.

2 250 ml (1 cup) 225 g (1/2 lb) 225 g (1/2 lb) 15 ml (1 tbsp) 15 ml (1 tbsp) 30 ml (2 tbsp) 2 ml (1/2 tsp) 2 ml (1/2 tsp)

*Keep a little more wine and cheese on hand to adjust the consistency if needed. Add more cheese if it’s too liquid, add more wine if it’s too thick.

Let the freshly dipped pieces cool off for a few seconds, then enjoy and repeat but no double-dipping! Note: Italian or French bread make excellent dippers when cut into small pieces. IT’S ALL SMILES FOR SOCHI Sli2de Sochi The Winter Olympics are only 3 months away and the excitement is beginning to build. One of our bobsleigh medal hopefuls, Kelly Denyer took time off training to answer a few questions.

What’s happening this season? My first Olympics, hopefully! Our season starts at the end of November with our first World Cup competition in Calgary, Canada. We don’t actually find out whether we have been selected to compete for Team GB at the Sochi Olympic Winter Games until the end of January!

Name: Kelly Denyer Age: 23 Position: Brakewoman How did you start? I first got into bobsleigh after seeing an email my dad was sent advertising try outs. I have always been a bit of a daredevil and thought it would be fun to have a go...3 years later here I am! How do you train in the UK? I train at the University of Bath Sports Training Village. We have a 90 metre tarmac push track which enables us to practice our starts throughout the year even without ice. Do you train abroad? Yes, I’ve travelled all over the world competing in bobsleigh: North America, Canada, Europe and Russia. During the summer we often travel to Andermatt in Switzerland for push training and Latvia for on ice testing. What’s your training regime? I train up to three hours a day, six days a week. My training includes sprints, weights, plyometric training, push training…. all sorts.


What are you most looking forward to in Sochi? It’s always been my dream to compete at an Olympics. So, if I am selected I think I am most looking forward to go out there to race. Earning the right to wear the Olympic rings and compete for my country would mean the world to me.

All the Winter Olympic action from Sochi will hit our TV screens during February 2014. In the meantime a series of events to promote winter sports, Slide2Sochi, will be touring the UK. The Slide2Sochi roadshows will be run at slopes across the country and will involve taster sessions for those wanting to give skiing or snowboarding a go, fun competitions on and off the slope for all ages, interactive games, giveaways, stalls and refreshments. DID YOU KNOW? If you are skiing in La Plagne with Mark Warner you can try the bobsleigh for yourself!

Motivation song of choice? Foo Fighters ‘The Pretender’ is my ultimate pump up song before I get on the block.

Do you have a strict diet? For competition a women’s bob including athletes has a max weight limit of 340 kg. So although I have to keep an eye on what I eat luckily I can still get away eating most things. Custard creams are a must! What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Training takes up the majority of my time however I love travelling, reading and spending time with my family and friends. I also used to help my dad coach athletics to kids. Anything that will get my heart pumping like climbing, surfing – though more time is spent in the water!



The Olympic Torch will travel to the International Space Station on the Soyuz TMA-11M manned spaceship at the beginning of November 2013. Once in space, Russian cosmonauts Sergei Ryazansky and Oleg Kotov will take the Olympic Torch on a spacewalk. The Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) has organised the adventure as part of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Torch Relay and it will be the first time the Olympic Torch will have been carried in open space. Although unfortunately, for safety reasons the torch will not be lit! 15
