Tortilis Camp is small luxury eco-lodge in Amboseli and the only property of its size in Africa to run 100 percent on solar power! Tortilis is away from other lodges, on the unspoiled western boundary of the National Park, closest to the mountain. In a unique setting, the camp is widely regarded as the prime location for witnessing the majesty of Africa’s largest mountain, Kilimanjaro. Amboseli is also known for its magnificent herds of elephants – over 1500 resident elephants live within the larger Amboseli eco-system. Tortilis Camp is named after the flat-topped, umbrella thorn tree, the Acacia Tortilis, and is situated in one of Amboseli’s areas of Acacia Tortilis woodland. Tortilis Camp features 16 spacious tents, with king or twin beds, elegant en-suite bathrooms and private verandahs. Additionally, the camp features a stunning Family Tent and the recentlyrefurbished, spectacular Private House, making it the ideal safari destination for families! Each unit comes with an en-suite master bedroom and twin room, as well as a private lounge and dining area. The Family Tent and Private House are located away from other tents and share a swimming pool, with the most stunning views over Mount Kilimanjaro. Enjoy game drives, guided bush walks and scrumptious bush meals shared inside the National Park, or within Tortilis Camp's private 30,000 acre game concession. The private Kitirua Conservancy offers guests the chance to get up close with Amboseli’s famous elephants, some of the finest 'tuskers' to be found in Kenya. The guides at Tortilis know the individual elephants and their family history, and are able to get very close to the habituated herds. There is a main lounge, bar and dining area, all exquisitely built with natural materials and thatched roofs. The camp also has a spa and a common swimming pool.
