Vintage Stations takes the reader through a winery and shows its operations via the eyes of Art the superintendent and the vain owner, Sam. Art has been working for Sam Amado's family for over twenty years and has not received any gratification in his work because of his bullying boss. With Sam's taking over the running of the operation he has pushed his mother into the background and turned the winery into a visual attraction while neglecting its basic maintenance. At the start of the story Sam decides to up grade the bottling operation. Yet there is the fear of unionization hanging in the air and the two men lay out a plan to undermine it. However, there are four employees who are working to promote the union and they have arranged for the union organizers to make a presentation to all the personal. Art and Sam's spies keep the two informed as to what is going on with the employees but their messages are unreliable because of their own self interests. The secretarial staff and men
