SENIOR CAMPUS PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Year 12 Exams Year 12 VCE Exams began this week and will continue until the 21 st of November. We wish all our students the very best and hope that they achieve the results required to get them into their chosen profession or pathway. Valedictory All Year 12 students will celebrate their achievements at their Valedictory on Thursday the 21 st of November at the Premier Function Centre. Any students who have not purchased their tickets should contact the office immediately. The VCAL students have organised this event so we are sure that it will be an enjoyable evening for all Year 12 students and their families. Chemistry Competition Chemistry students from the college have excelled in The Royal Australian Chemical Institute National Titration Stakes Competition. Daniel Batchelor from Year 11 and Rebecca O’Connor from Year 12 both received a Gold medal and Alex Benbow another Year 12 student received a Silver medal in the competition. The team was Highly Commended on their efforts and a huge thank you must go to Mr Qaisar Ameer who worked with the students during lunch time and planning time to get the students skilled enough to achieve such excellent results. Boot Camp On Saturday the 26th of October, 17 Year 10 Boot Camp Students, Mr Mark Seijbel and I headed off to Wandin Park at 4:30am to participate in the Stampede. A gruelling 10 kilometre fitness challenge made up of some 22 obstacles designed to test both strength of character and strength of body. The students were both volunteers and competitors, which meant working on a drink station for half the day and running the course during the other half of the day. The challenge was incredibly difficult for many of the students and as the thousands of competitors completed the course the muddier and more slippery the running course became. Rhiley Moyle and Zane Spiero were stand out competitors completing the 10 kilometre event in 1 hour and 20 minutes and Mr Seijbel was a real trouper, running the course with the morning group and again with the afternoon group. Congratulations to all the students who challenged themselves, hopefully this event inspires others to step up and complete the challenge in the future. Pictures will be posted on our website. Exam Preparation Students in years 10 and 11 are required to complete all course work over the next month and begin reviewing their learning as exams begin at the end of November for Year 11’s and early December for Year 10’s. SENIOR CAMPUS PRINCIPAL’S REPORT CONTINUED Curriculum Levies Traralgon College offers a wide variety of subjects that use a large number of consumable materials. As we begin preparing budgets for 2014 it has become clear that many families have not paid the subject levies for 2013. We do not have the funds to supply these resources to all students free of charge and if accounts remain outstanding then we may need to reflect on the applied classes we offer and reduce this number. This would be a real shame as many of our students excel in these areas of the curriculum and many of these applied subject lead to future employment. Examples of subjects that have levies are: Art, Photography, Media, Woodwork, Food Technology, etc. Please support us to provide these subjects in the future and pay outstanding levies. Awards Day 2013 - Advance Notice The Traralgon College Awards Day will be held on Tuesday the 17 th December at the Junior Campus commencing at 10.00am. All Junior and Senior students are expected to attend and families are very welcome. After some fantastic fundraising efforts we are very pleased to announce that Paul van Breugel, our College Principal will be having his long locks shaved off on this day! All money raised as part of the World’s Greatest Shave Campaign will contribute towards the Leukaemia Foundation. Regards, Sue Coffey Senior Campus Principal
