COLLEGE PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Grade 6 Awareness day @ Junior Campus Tuesday 5th June Next Tuesday 5th June is an Awareness Day at Traralgon College Junior Campus for Grade 5 and 6 students in the area to visit the school with their teachers and experience a day in a Secondary School. We expect about 500 primary school students to come through the school on this day so there will be no regular timetable running for students in Years 7, 8 and 9. We will however be able to supervise any students that do come to school on this day but they will be expected to do their own private study. Note: This does not affect students in Years 10, 11 and 12 at the Senior Campus where classes will run as normal. JC Student Leaders – Developing Active Citizens Student leaders have been very active in the College. Last week Grade 6 parents and students were entertained by the Year 7 form captains’ natural advice and positive messages about the school and settling in at secondary school. The Campus captains went to a leadership forum in Melbourne where they learned more about the challenges facing communities in Africa and the actions that student leaders can take to make a difference. This week the Junior School Leadership will be undertaking Leadership Development training within the school and with local primary school leaders. School – Community Links The Year 9 BOLD group have been using the facilities of the Traralgon East Community Centre to engage with a range of community members to connect with others and build links with a wider range of community resources. This is a fantastic facility available for all to access. The school has also been privileged to have Nick Stevens from Gippsland Power Football Club involved with students at the school. Thanks to everyone involved with this work. I am often reminded that it “takes a village to raise a child” and the more schools and communities connect the better it will be for all. Regards
