ABOUT My name is Diana. I come from the suburbs of Orange County, and later studied Industrial Design at San Francisco State University.I have been a dedicated student of design ever since 2015. I don’t think it is something you ever stop learning. I aspire to improve constantly and never stop learning about myself, my interests, and the world around me. I’m currently interested in environmental and universal design that creates and nurtures a better quality of life through innovative products, systems, services and experiences. I subscribe to organizations such as the NRCD and I’m inspired by the work they do and the content they produce. I’d like to incorporate my personal interest into my field of study. We have the opportunity to transform our planet through sustainable and social conscious designs. That’s powerful. I realize while studying industrial design that I not only have a responsibility to do work that serves myself but more importantly serves the needs of others. The environmental movement is certainly a movement of my generation and also the movement of the next generation to follow. It’s galvanizing young designers to think beyond commercial applications of their designs along with the vision of inspiring other segments of business and economy to follow in that direction. My studies and experiences has inspired this way of thinking in relations to design. In the same vein, if my time here at the university has taught me anything, it’s that the entire world can be my source of inspiration.

DESIGN BRIEF Using ethnographic research techniques, characterize the cooking and clean-up process associated with a specific kitchen tool. DESIGN BRIEF The design guide is to develop a safe, sustainable, and creative wooden toy for infants (newboarn - 12 months) that will stimulate a infant’s fine and/or motor skills. This may be achieved by stimulating a child’s senses and/or congitive learning development and abilities. Puffins are one of the most beloved animals among children due to there benevolent and cute appearence and animated features. This clown-faced seabird feeds primarily by diving into the ocean to catch small fishes such as sandlance fishes.

DESIGN PROPOSAL Meet puffino, the infant toy playmate

The bright and colorful wooden roller enhances infants fine and gross motor skills while they enjoy rolling and pulling the puffin along as the infant crawls. The size and shape of the puffin and sandlance fish is easy for babies to hold, push, and pull. The infant is stimulated by the rolling and pulling mechanism as well as by the array colors of the rainbow wheels that can be seen from all angles. 9+ Months

Our target infant age group are 9 to 12 month. This is the age gap where infants begin to crawl. At this stage parents should begin encouraging the infant’s physical develpment. Between 9 and 12 months, babies take action with a goal in mind, whether to explore to avoid cold baby wipes. Additionally, the infant’s cognitive senses are beginning to develop now show your child how cause and effect works.

The infant will be beginning to crawl and develop cognitive senses. The toy will encourage the infant’s physical develpment and cognitive understanding of how cause and effect works. Puffino will help your infant with both fine and gross motor skills as well as cognitive skills.

HOW CAN A CURLING IRON BE DUALLY EMBODY ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE AND SUSTAINABLE LIVING?

DESIGN BRIEF Your industrial design consultancy has been contracted by a large international corporation. For decades, this corporation has manufactured a line of personal grooming appliances. However, market research has determined that people perceive their products as old-fashioned and stodgy. The corporation requested that we rethink and revamp their product lines, updating them with modern aesthetics and contemporary values and bringing their business into the 21st century. The client’s new marketing motto is Natural | Science. In the new product line they wish to convey a sense of the careful engineering excellence that made them famous in the first place, but including a new emphasis on sustainability, environmental friendliness, and healthy living.

Understanding the utility and differing forms that make curling irons ubiquitous and helpful was conducive to my approach to exploring and ideating various forms and features that would harness the potential enhance the user’s experience of curling one’s hair beautifully and efficiently.
