Europe & Britain 2014 40 day holiday Day 1: AUCKLAND – DUBAI

A warm welcome from your tour leader at Auckland International Airport prior to boarding your early evening flight on Emirates to Dubai via Brisbane.

Day 2: ARRIVE DUBAI (2)

Early morning arrival into Dubai where you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Later our included sightseeing takes in the iconic landmarks and architectural wonders that make Dubai distinctive. Visit Atlantis - The Palm with its lost Chambers, the Dubai Mall, Souk al Bahar and then take a trip up Burj Khalifa to the observation deck on the 124th floor. A scenic drive around the Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence area will return you to your hotel for a free evening to relax and unwind.

Day 3: IN DUBAI

After a leisurely breakfast at your hotel this morning, enjoy a full free day to explore the the city. (BB)

Day 4: DUBAI - LONDON

This morning we transfer to Dubai Airport for our afternoon flight to London. On arrival in London, we transfer to our hotel in time for an early night or perhaps a quick pint before pub closing! (BB)

Day 5: IN LONDON

Enjoy a sightseeing tour that shows the famous landmarks of this magnificent city. See Westminster Abbey, Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and more. The remainder of the day is at leisure. (CB)

Day 6: LONDON – WINDSOR – BATH – CARDIFF

This morning, meet your Travel Director and travelling companions as you set off on your holiday. Visit Windsor and see the impressive castle. See elegant Georgian architecture in the spa town of Bath. Cross the vast Severn Estuary to Cardiff, capital of Wales, where you dine tonight. (CB, D)

Day 7: CARDIFF – PEMBROKE – WATERFORD

Admire Cardiff Castle then journey through beautiful countryside via Carmarthen. View Pembroke Castle which is the birthplace of Henry Vll, founder of the Tudor Dynasty. Board your ferry from Pembroke to Rosslare, Ireland. Journey west to Waterford and dine tonight at your hotel. (FB, D)

Day 8: WATERFORD – BLARNEY – TRALEE

Visit the Waterford Crystal Showroom. Continue along the splendid southern coast through the picturesque fishing port of Youghal. Explore Blarney Castle – kiss the stone and acquire the ‘gift of the gab’! Cross over the Cork and the Kerry Mountains, then travel via Killarney to your hotel in Tralee. (FB, D)

Day 9: TRALEE – DINGLE PENINSULA – LIMERICK

This morning, enjoy a scenic drive along the Dingle Peninsula. See the unspoilt and colourful villages and fishing harbours of Ireland’s most westerly point. Travel north to County Limerick through Adare, the prettiest village in Ireland. Arrive in Limerick where you view St. Mary’s Cathedral and King John’s Castle. (FB)

Day 10: LIMERICK – GALWAY – DUBLIN (2 NIGHTS)

This morning there is time to visit Bunratty Castle and folk park, where 19th century life is vividly recreated. Drive through beautiful County Clare to view Galway Bay. Stop in Galway then head across lush countryside to Dublin, Ireland’s capital. (FB)

Day 11: DUBLIN SIGHTSEEING AND FREE TIME

Your Local Guide takes you on a sightseeing tour of Dublin, with views of Trinity College, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and historic Phoenix Park. Spend the rest of your day as you choose. For your last night in Ireland, why not join your travelling companions for an Irish cabaret. (FB)

Day 12: DUBLIN – CHESTER – LIVERPOOL

Cross the Irish Sea, with magnificent views of Dublin Bay, and arrive at Holyhead on the Welsh Island of Anglesey. Cameras at the ready as you view the station with one of the longest names in the world, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwlllantysiliogogogoch. Admire breathtaking scenery in Snowdonia National Park on the way to Chester, where you have time to walk along the medieval walls and appreciate the famous ‘Chester Rows’. Stop to view William Wordsworth’s grave in the pretty Lake District village of Grasmere. Continue across the Scottish border and stop at Gretna Green, where eloping couples could marry against their parents’ wishes. Your day ends at your hotel near Edinburgh. (FB)

Day 14: EDINBURGH SIGHTSEEING AND FREE TIME

This morning’s sightseeing tour with your Local Guide includes views of the Georgian New Town, Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle. Spend free time exploring on your own or join your Travel Director on an optional excursion to the Royal Yacht Britannia in nearby Leith. Day 15: EDINBURGH (DUNFERMLINE) – YORK – LEEDS

This morning, travel south through the Scottish Borderlands and stop to view the ruins of Jedburgh Abbey. Enjoy the views across the Cheviot Hills at Carter Bar and continue into Northumberland National Park where you view Hadrian’s Wall at Heddon. Cross the River Tyne at Newcastle and stop at York for an orientation tour including the Gothic Minster and the narrow cobbled street known as the Shambles. Then continue to your hotel in Leeds. Day 16: LEEDS – STRATFORD-UPON-AVON – WARWICK

This morning, visit Stratford-upon-Avon where you have time to see the sights and shop for souvenirs and see Anne Hathaways’ Cottage. In your free time, why not visit Shakespeare’s Birthplace and Visitor Centre for an in-depth look at the great man’s life. Dine tonight at your hotel in the historic city of Warwick. (FB, D)

Day 17: WARWICK – OXFORD – LONDON (4)

Enjoy a scenic drive through the glorious Cotswolds to the little churchyard at Bladon, where Sir Winston Churchill is buried. See the sights of Oxford, the oldest university city in England, before continuing

to London where you can say farewell to your Travel Director and travelling companions at the end of your memorable holiday. (FB)

Days 18, 19, 20: LONDON AT LEISURE

There is plenty of time to discover London on your own during your stay with so much to see and do. The Tower Bridge and the city of London, Windsor Castle, shopping day at Knightsbridge, Regent , Oxford and Bond Streets. Madame Tussauds, perhaps a show – the choice is endless. (CB, CB, CB)

Day 21: LONDON – AMSTERDAM

Greetings from your Travel Director! See the White Cliffs of Dover as you board the ferry and cross to Calais, France. Continue by road through the Belgian and Dutch countryside to Amsterdam. See the sights during your orientation tour including Dam Square and the Mint Tower. (CB)

Day 22: AMSTERDAM – RHINE CRUISE – RHINELAND

Drive eastwards into Germany and follow the Rhine Valley southwards. Take a leisurely cruise along the River Rhine by boat, past picturesque villages and medieval castles. Continue by road to your hotel, where you dine tonight. (BB, D)

Day 23: RHINELAND – LUCERNE (2 NIGHTS)

View Heidelberg Castle, a magnificent example of Renaissance architecture. Journey via Freiburg through the beautiful Black Forest region. Stop at Schaffhausen to view the mighty Rhine Falls and arrive later at Lake Lucerne, your home for the next two nights. (BB, D)

Day 24: LUCERNE ORIENTATION AND FREE TIME

Visit the poignant Lion Monument and the old town during your orientation tour of Lucerne. Afterwards, in your free time, consider a scenic cruise on the lake, shop for Swiss watches and chocolates or take a cog railway up one of the nearby mountains to enjoy the amazing views! (BB)

Day 25: LUCERNE – LIECHTENSTEIN – INNSBRUCK

Cross the Swiss border to Liechtenstein for a brief stop in the capital, Vaduz. Continue into Austria, via the Arlberg region, to Innsbruck, capital of the Tyrol. (BB, D)

Day 26: INNSBRUCK – VERONA – VENICE (2 NIGHTS)

Marvel at Innsbruck’s sights including the Golden Roof, Hofburg Palace and Olympic ski-jump. Travel through the Brenner Pass into Italy and view Juliet’s balcony in Verona, the setting for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Day 27: VENICE ORIENTATION AND FREE TIME

Evidence of Venice’s former maritime power and wealth is everywhere you look as you cruise by private launch to St. Mark’s Square. Day 28: VENICE – ROME (2 NIGHTS)

Traverse the flat plains of Veneto and cross the dramatic Apennine hills. Admire splendid scenery as you drive through the rolling Tuscan countryside, arriving later in the capital, Rome. (BB)

The costs are based on specially negotiated airfares on which special conditions apply and on twin share accommodation. For passengers travelling alone a single supplement of NZ$2850 is payable. There are a limited number of singles available. There is the possibility of a room share (same sex of course) but this cannot be guaranteed. If you cannot be matched, the single supplement is payable.

Reservations and payment On receipt of a $1000 non-refundable deposit per person, Trafalgar will confirm your reservation. Final payment must be received 60 days prior to departure. If payment is not received 60 days prior to departure Trafalgar reserves the right to cancel the reservation and apply the appropriate cancellation charges. Changes to costs Costs are based on exchange rates as at August 2013 and are subject to change. Should these rates or costs change, it may be necessary to make a surcharge on the cost of the tour. No surcharge will be made in respect of currency fluctuation or fuel surcharges once full payment has been received. This guarantee does not apply to any taxes, charges or levies imposed by any government or their agencies. In exchange for these guarantees, no refund will be made if costs are reduced. Airfare costs are subject to minimum passenger numbers and may change. Auckland, Dubai & Paris taxes are included and are correct as at Oct 2013 and are subject to change until group is ticketed. Travel documents Travel documents and instructions for joining your tour will be sent to you approximately 3 weeks before your tour commences provided full payment has been received. Please read the documents and tour literature which are sent to you, in an attractive passport wallet, before departure—they contain a wealth of advice and essential information to make your holiday as enjoyable as possible. Changes to trip itineraries Trafalgar constantly tries to improve trip itineraries and features. If improvements can be made, or unforeseen circumstances beyond our control make changes necessary, we reserve the right to vary itineraries and substitute hotels. Each departure is based on a minimum of 25 passengers and in the unlikely event that we have to cancel your reservation because of insufficient numbers booked we will use our best endeavours to offer an alternative holiday of similar standard. If you do not accept the alternative a full refund of all monies paid to Trafalgar will be made. Cancellations, refunds & booking changes Notice of cancellation must be in writing either directly to Trafalgar or through your travel agent.
