Europe & Britain 2013 40 day holiday DAY 1 AUCKLAND – SINGAPORE

A warm welcome from your tour leader at Auckland International Airport prior to boarding your early afternoon Singapore Airlines flight. On arrival in Singapore, you will be transferred to your hotel.

DAY 2 SINGAPORE SIGHTSEEING & AT LEISURE

Enjoy a half day city tour of Singapore. Highlights include a ride on the Singapore Flyer, a giant observation wheel, which gives you panoramic views of Singapore’s Skyline and a stop for a local treat of coffee and toast. Afternoon is at leisure. (BB)

DAY 3 SINGAPORE – LONDON

Your day is at leisure and opportunities are everywhere. Why not experience the hop-on hop-off bus to see highlights of this exciting city? Visit the timeless and elegant Raffles Hotel and wander through the extensive tropical gardens and perhaps enjoy a Singapore Sling in the Long Bar! This evening you will be transferred to Changi Airport for an overnight flight to London. (BB)

DAY 11 INNSBRUCK – VERONA – VENICE (2)

Marvel at Innsbruck’s sights including the Golden Roof, Hofburg Palace and Olympic ski-jump. Travel through the Brenner Pass into Italy and view Juliet’s balcony in Verona, the setting for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Your day ends in the magical Byzantine city of Venice, Queen of the Adriatic. (BB D)

DAY 12 VENICE ORIENTATION AND FREE TIME

Evidence of Venice’s former maritime power and wealth is everywhere you look as you cruise by private launch to St. Mark’s Square. Watch the Venetian craftsmen at work creating local specialities at a glass-blowing workshop on Giudecca Island Then spend free time exploring this fascinating city on your own. (BB)

DAY 13 VENICE – ROME (2)

Traverse the flat plains of Veneto and cross the dramatic Apennine hills. Admire splendid scenery as you drive through the rolling Tuscan countryside, arriving later in the capital, Rome. (BB)

Early morning arrival into London. After transfer to the hotel and time to freshen up, enjoy a sightseeing tour that shows the famous land marks of this magnificent city. See Westminster Abbey, Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and more. The remainder of the day is at leisure. (CB) A full day at leisure to sightsee and explore independently. DAY 6 LONDON – AMSTERDAM

Greetings from your Travel Director! See the White Cliffs of Dover as you board the ferry and cross to Calais, France. Continue by road through the Belgian and Dutch countryside to Amsterdam. See the sights during your orientation tour including Dam Square and the Mint Tower. (CB)

DAY 7 AMSTERDAM – RHINE CRUISE – RHINELAND

Drive eastwards into Germany and follow the Rhine valley southwards. Take a leisurely cruise along the River Rhine by boat, past picturesque villages and medieval castles. Continue by road to your hotel, where you dine tonight. (BB D)

DAY 8 RHINELAND – LUCERNE (2)

View Heidelberg Castle, a magnificent example of Renaissance architecture. Journey via Freiburg through the beautiful Black Forest region. Stop at Schaffhausen to view the mighty Rhine Falls and arrive later at Lake Lucerne, your home for the next two nights. (BB D)

DAY 9 LUCERNE ORIENTATION AND FREE TIME

Visit the poignant Lion Monument and the old town during your orientation tour of Lucerne. Afterwards, in your free time, consider a scenic cruise on the lake, shop for Swiss watches and chocolates or take a cog railway up one of the nearby mountains to enjoy the amazing views! (BB)

DAY 10 LUCERNE – LIECHTENSTEIN – INNSBRUCK

Cross the Swiss border to Liechtenstein for a brief stop in the capital, Vaduz. Continue into Austria, via the Arlberg region, to Innsbruck, capital of the Tyrol. (BB D)

Your Local Guide takes you on a sightseeing tour which starts with a visit to St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. Continue to ancient Rome to view the Forum and Colosseum. Later enjoy your free time seeing the sights or shopping for souvenirs. (BB) Pass the Abbey of Monte Cassino en route to the Bay of Naples, where you might like to take an excursion to explore the excavations of Pompeii. Dine tonight at your hotel. (BB D)

DAY 16 BAY OF NAPLES – FLORENCE (2)

Drive north to Florence, birthplace of the Renaissance. Admire views of the city from Piazzale Michelangelo. Later, check into your hotel. (BB D)

DAY 17 FLORENCE

Enjoy a morning walking tour with your Local Guide to see the magical buildings and statues of Florence. Enjoy time at leisure to immerse yourself in the sights – Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Baptistery, Signoria Square – the list is endless! (BB)

DAY 18 FLORENCE – PISA – MONACO – NICE (2)

View the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Continue past Genoa and view the famous casino of Monte Carlo. Arrive later in Nice, glittering capital of the Côte d’Azur. (BB)

DAY 19 NICE – FREE TIME

Orientation includes the Promenade des Anglais and the Place Masséna. Spend the rest of the day relaxing. (BB)

DAY 20 NICE – CANNES – AVIGNON - LYON

Admire the beautiful countryside around Aix-en-Provence, where Van Gogh liked to paint. In Avignon view the Palace of the Popes and the famous bridge. Continue through the Rhône Valley to Lyon. (BB D)

DAY 21 LYON – PARIS (2)

The wine-producing region of Burgundy and the Forest of Fontainebleau provide picturesque backdrops for your drive to the elegant, romantic city


of Paris. On arrival maybe take take an excursion to visit the magnificent Palace of Versailles. (BB)

DAY 22 PARIS SIGHTSEEING AND FREE TIME

The Champs Élysées, Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame Cathedral, Eiffel Tower - see all these sights and more with superb commentary from your expert Local Guide. Then perhaps visit the Louvre Museum to see the ‘Mona Lisa’. This evening maybe take the chance to see one of the famous Parisian cabaret shows? (BB)

DAY 23 PARIS – LONDON (3)

Head north to Calais for your cross-Channel ferry to England. Continue to London for a three night stay at the end of our European itinerary (BB)

DAY 24-25 LONDON

There is plenty of time to discover London on your own during your stay with so much to see and do. The Tower Bridge and the city of London, Windsor Castle, shopping day at Knightsbridge, Regent, Oxford and Bond Streets, Madame Tussauds, perhaps a show – the choice is endless. (CB CB)

DAY 26 LONDON – STONEHENGE - BATH - CARDIFF

Greetings from your Travel Director as you leave London. View the mysterious ancient stone circle at Stonehenge. See elegant Georgian architecture in the spa town of Bath. Cross the vast Severn Estuary to Cardiff, capital of Wales, where you dine tonight. (CB D)

DAY 27 CARDIFF – PEMBROKE – WATERFORD

Admire Cardiff Castle then journey through beautiful countryside via Carmarthen. View Pembroke Castle, birthplace of Henry Vll, founder of the Tudor Dynasty. Board your ferry from Pembroke to Rosslare, Ireland. Journey south to Waterford and dine tonight at your hotel. (FB D)

DAY 28 WATERFORD – BLARNEY – TRALEE

Visit the Waterford Crystal Showroom (subject to availability). Continue along the splendid southern coast through the fishing port of Youghal and Cork. Explore Blarney Castle – kiss the stone and acquire the ‘gift of the gab’! Cross over the Cork and the Kerry Mountains, then travel via Killarney to your hotel in Tralee. (FB D)

DAY 29 TRALEE – DINGLE PENINSULA – LIMERICK

This morning, enjoy a scenic drive along the Dingle Peninsula . See the unspoilt and colourful villages and fishing harbours of Europe’s most westerly point. Travel north to County Limerick through Adare, the prettiest village in Ireland. Arrive in Limerick, where you view St. Mary’s Cathedral and King John’s Castle. (FB)

DAY 30 LIMERICK – GALWAY – DUBLIN (2)

This morning there is time to visit Bunratty Castle and folk park, where 19th century life is vividly recreated. Drive through beautiful County Clare to view Galway Bay. Stop in Galway then head across lush countryside to Dublin, Ireland’s capital. (FB)

DAY 31 DUBLIN SIGHTSEEING AND FREE TIME

Your Local Guide takes you on a sightseeing tour of Dublin, with views of Trinity College, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and historic Phoenix Park. Spend the rest of your day as you choose. For your last night in Ireland, why not join your travelling companions at an Irish cabaret? (FB)

DAY 32 DUBLIN – CHESTER – LIVERPOOL

Cross the Irish Sea, with magnificent views of Dublin Bay, and arrive at Holyhead on the Welsh Island of Anglesey. Cameras at the ready as you view the station with the longest name in the world, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwlllantysiliogogogoch. Admire breathtaking scenery in Snowdonia National Park on the way to Chester, where you have time to walk along the Roman walls and appreciate the famous ‘Chester Rows’. Arrive later in Liverpool, home of the Beatles. (FB)

DAY 33 LIVERPOOL – LAKE DISTRICT – DUNFERMLINE (NEAR EDINBURGH) (2 NIGHTS)

Stop to view William Wordsworth’s former home in the pretty village of Grasmere in the Lake District. Continue across the Scottish border and stop at Gretna Green, where eloping couples could marry against their parents’ wishes. Your day ends at your hotel near Edinburgh. (FB)

DAY 34 EDINBURGH SIGHTSEEING

This morning’s sightseeing tour with your local guide includes views of the Georgian New Town, Holyrood Palace, the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle. Spend free time afterwards exploring this beautiful city on your own or join your Travel Director on an optional excursion to the Royal Yacht Britannia in nearby Leith. Tonight, why not attend a lively Scottish banquet with traditional haggis and bagpipes? (FB)

DAY 35 DUNFERMLINE – YORK – LEEDS

This morning travel south through the Scottish Borderlands and stop to view the ruins of Jedburgh Abbey. Enjoy the views across the Cheviot Hills at Carter Bar and continue into Northumberland National Park where you view Hadrian’s Wall at Heddon. Cross the River Tyne at Newcastle and stop at York for an orientation tour including the Gothic Minster and the narrow cobbled street known as the Shambles. Then continue to your hotel in Leeds. DAY 36 LEEDS – STRATFORD-UPON-AVON - WARWICK

This morning visit Stratford-upon-Avon where you have time to see the sights and shop for souvenirs and see Anne Hathaway’s Cottage. In your free time, why not visit Shakespeare’s Birthplace and Visitor’s Centre for an in-depth look at the great man’s life. Dine tonight at your hotel in historic city of Warwick. (FB D)

DAY 37 WARWICK – OXFORD – LONDON

See Warwick Castle, dating back over 1100 years and enjoy a scenic drive through the glorious Cotswolds to the little churchyard at Bladon where Sir Winston Churchill is buried. See the sights of Oxford, the oldest university city in the UK, before continuing to London where you can say farewell to your Travel Director and travelling companions at the end of your memorable holiday. DAY 38 LONDON – SINGAPORE

One final day at leisure for last minute sightseeing and shopping before transferring to London Heathrow airport for your Singapore Airlines evening flight to Singapore. (CB)

The costs are based on specially negotiated airfares on which special conditions apply and on twin share accommodation. For passengers travelling alone a single supplement of NZ$2480 is payable. There are a limited number of singles available. There is the possibility of a room share (same sex of course) but this cannot be guaranteed. If you cannot be matched, the single supplement is payable.

Reservations and payment On receipt of a $1000 non-refundable deposit per person, Trafalgar will confirm your reservation. Final payment must be received 50 days prior to departure. If payment is not received 50 days prior to departure., Trafalgar reserves the right to cancel the reservation and apply the appropriate cancellation charges. Changes to tour costs Tour costs are based on exchange rates as at August 2012 and are subject to change. Should these rates or costs change, it may be necessary to make a surcharge on the cost of the tour. No surcharge will be made in respect of currency fluctuation or fuel surcharges once full payment has been received. This guarantee does not apply to any taxes, charges or levies imposed by any government or their agencies. In exchange for these guarantees, no refund will be made if costs are reduced. Airfare costs are subject to minimum passenger numbers and may change. Auckland, Singapore & London taxes are included and are correct as at Sep 2012 and are subject to change until group is ticketed. Before you join the tour Travel documents and instructions for joining your tour will be sent to you approximately 3 weeks before your tour commences provided full payment has been received. Please read the documents and tour literature which are sent to you, in an attractive passport wallet, before departure—they contain a wealth of advice and essential information to make your holiday as enjoyable as possible. Changes to tour itineraries Trafalgar constantly tries to improve tour itineraries and tour features. If improvements can be made, or unforeseen circumstances beyond our control make changes necessary, we reserve the right to vary itineraries and substitute hotels. The Tour is based on a minimum of 22 passengers and in the unlikely event that we have to cancel your reservation because of insufficient numbers booked we will use our best endeavours to offer an alternative holiday of similar standard. If you do not accept the alternative a full refund of all monies paid to Trafalgar will be made. Cancellations, refunds & booking changes Notice of cancellation must be in writing either directly to Trafalgar or through your travel agent. A $1000 fee per person will be charged for all cancellations. Any changes to air arrangements after tickets issued will incur a $75 fee per person per change. Additionally, the following scale of charges will apply when cancellation is notified within 50 days of tour departure from home. The charges apply to the land content only. In the event you have to withdraw from a tour after it has begun for reasons such as illness, be sure to obtain a medical certificate in support of any insurance claim. We regret that we are not able to make any refunds for absences from the tour, including but not limited to unused hotel accommodation, meals or sightseeing.

Insurance We recommend that you purchase insurance coverage for the duration of your tour including airfare cancellation, baggage and medical coverage. Optional return dates The international airfare on which this tour is based allows individual passengers to return independently on a space available basis. There is a fee of $50 per person for this and also a separate costing may apply. Passports and visas A current passport endorsed as valid for all countries to be visited is essential. All passengers must hold a machine readable passport and applicable visas. Foreign passport holders must be in possession of a New Zealand Re-entry Permit, if applicable. Please note that passport and visa requirements are not the responsibility of the Tour Operator.
