Making complex waste simple!
Tom Mitten Operations Trainee Supervisor & HP Surveyor
We make the complex simple, delivering unique solutions and driving customer value to accelerate the UK’s nuclear decommissioning mission. Choosing to work with Tradebe Inutec means you’ll have access to our highly experienced team - whose specialist subject really is radioactive nuclear waste; our unique waste processing facilities; and our reliable and flexible approach to our clients and partners. We are investing for the future and in February 2019 our Winfrith site became a standalone Nuclear Licensed Site - the first operating facility in 15 years. This major step enables us to grow our capability even further and enhances our role as a key player in the radioactive waste management sector.
Our services Tradebe Inutec has been providing offsite treatment for more than 30 years working with all major nuclear customers with decommissioning and operational wastes. We support customers with the following services: • • • • • •

Michael leads the team responsible for meeting regulatory requirements for all shipments in and out of Winfrith. Michael and his team are a vital part of #MakingComplexWasteSimple. In March 2019, Michael led his team to complete almost 50 individual consignments including some destined for recycling at international facilities. A record breaking number of consignments in a month for Tradebe Inutec and far more than many nuclear facilities would undertake in a single year! All achieved within one month of Michael and his team taking on the additional responsibilities associated with becoming a nuclear site licensee. Michael is a qualified Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) and often represents Tradebe Inutec at relevant competent authority stakeholder events to continuously develop his skills and knowledge within industry.
NAME: Michael McCrudden SPECIALIST SUBJECT: Managing nuclear waste consignments
Tom has been leading an operational team on one of the most complex projects Tradebe Inutec has undertaken in the last 10 years. The project, for a major UK client, involves decontaminating used nuclear fuel pond skips which have been classed as Borderline waste.
NAME: Tom Mitten SPECIALIST SUBJECT: Decontaminating complex Borderline wastes
As a result of the work undertaken by Tom and his team, we have now developed a new decontamination technique which allows the used nuclear fuel skips to be disposed of at the Low Level Waste Repository rather than through an Intermediate Level Waste route‌a much simpler and more cost-effective option for our customer. As well as his day job, Tom is close to becoming a qualified Health Physics surveyor as part of Tradebe Inutec’s pioneering collaboration with Bridgwater College in Somerset.
