Tales from the Riverbank Bethlehem Star Last week Rustington Community Primary School was ‘Thee best inn’ place to be. Year 1 and 2 children performed ‘The Bethlehem Star’ a nativity with a modern twist. It was the Christmas story told from a journalist’s point of view. Reporters visited all the key characters to gain the best scoop. They visited Inn Keepers, Shepherds, Kings and of course Joseph and Mary. Thank you to all the parents who attended the nativity and for all the excellent costumes they provided. The collection raised £177.14 for Worthing Churches Homeless Project.

Christmas Carol Service At the beginning of this week children from years 3,4 5 and 6 took part in our Christmas carol service held at The Church of St Peter and St Paul in Rustington. Parents joined us for this occasion and a collection raised over £240 for Worthing Churches Homeless Project.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year All the staff at Rustington would like to wish parents and children a very merry Christmas and New Year and we look forward to seeing you again on Tuesday 4th January.

Christmas Sleep Out Kits Year 6 Business Enterprise pupils have been hard at work for the last few months raising local sponsorship to help with their Christmas project. The aim of the project was to create ‘Christmas Sleepout Kits’ for the homeless people of Worthing. The pupils worked closely with Louise Brooks from Worthing Churches Homeless Project to agree suitable items as gifts. They have been really enterprising and have raised over £200 in cash, and many boxes of soaps, scarves, hats and chocolate as presents. Mrs Watt gave the pupils each a red bag to decorate and fill over the 6 weeks for a homeless person. She has been delighted by the hard work and creativity shown by the pupils, as well as the tremendous generosity of local groups and parents in the community. Louise Brooks and Sue Stevens from Worthing Churches Homeless said “Christmas is a very hard time of year for homeless people. The bags the children have made and filled will bring so much happiness and joy to our clients. We are very grateful for what they have done”. We would like to say a huge thank you for all the donations towards the sleep out kits. We know that many of the children brought in their own money. Sleep out kits consisted of: Bottle of water Bar of soap Deodorant Toothbrush Toothpaste Chapstick Shower gel Biscuits Tissues Hairbrush

Eco Fashion Day On the 26th of November the school had its Eco Fashion day. This was to raise environmental awareness and to educate the children further about the continued fight against global warming. Swapping, sewing and designing were the order of the day, with the children having the chance to revamp old and interesting clothes in to outfits that they can be proud to wear again! Staff kept the activity really open and allowed the children to bring in their own materials and design what they liked, including scarfs, belts and hats. At the end of the day the children voted for the top 3 in their class, and then in the Friday assembly the first place designs from each classed were modelled in a fun-filled catwalk fashion show as a climax to the event!

Dance Club Dance club will continue in the New Year on a Thursday between the time of 3.30-4.15pm for ages 5-7 and 4.15-5pm for age 8 and upwards.
