This publication is dedicated to the Community of Washington Township and most especially to those within it who work endlessly to bring those in need to the forefront. Township Talk proudly promotes fundraising events for charities of all kinds and showcases foundations and organizations who are paving the way in community service. As always, we thank the business owners and advertisers who partner with Township Talk throughout the year to lend a hand and give back to the community in which they serve. Wishing you all a Blessed Holiday Season. Jackie Levesque, Founder

“GOLD” is the Ribbon Color for Childhood Cancers. AJ’s Ribbons of Gold is a Washington Township based non-profit, founded in March 2013, by resident AJ Mattia. AJ is widely known locally as a champion of Childhood cancer awareness and is dedicated to raising support for the “Gold” ribbon. He hopes one day that it will be as widely recognized as the “pink” ribbon is for breast cancer awareness. Ask him about statistics on childhood cancer rates and the percentage of funding dedicated to research, and you’ll be sad to learn the hard facts. Facts he knows all too well, as a child who has had cancer and lost a leg from complications. Since creating his own foundation, he is leading the drive to use technology as a way of connecting children battling cancer with the outside world. His fundraising goals include purchasing several robotic “telepresence” VGO’s. This new technology allows a person to be in one location, while interacting through robotics at another location. The VGO provides the ability for a child to interact by seeing, hearing, talking and moving around at locations such as a school class room. With AJ’s determination, there’s little doubt that anything will stand in his way. Follow AJ’s Ribbons of Gold on Facebook. To learn more about VGO, visit www.vgocom.com. Donations to AJ’s Ribbons of Gold can be made through the website: www.ajsribbonsofgold.org or by mail: P.O. Box 623, Turnersville, NJ 08012.
