KNOW BEFORE YOU GO! SWIM TEST RULE

SAFETY CHECK BREAKS

If a child cannot touch the bottom of the pool or needs to stand on their toes to keep their head out of the water, the child must go to the zero depth area or be within arm’s distance of their parent/guardian. All children, 16 years or younger, who want to use the river, slide, deep end and/or rope swing must be swim tested. Swim tests can be requested at the guard office. The test consists of a 15 meter swim, with face in the water and no stopping.

On weekends, we will clear the pool for a 10-minute safety check at the following times:

Saturdays at 2:50 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Sundays at 12:50 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Adults, 16 and older, will be allowed to swim in the pool and hot tub during this time, as well as any swimming lessons. All others will need to exit the pool. During the safety check, it is important for children to check in with groups or family members, hydrate, go to the bathroom, and rest. Staff will perform safety checks on the pool and equipment. Please check with the Aquatic Management Team for the schedule for safety checks on holidays and no- school days.

Forgot Something? No problem! Swim diapers, goggles, caps, noseclips and ear plugs available for purchase at Guest Service.

RECREATIONAL SPORTS PHILOSOPHY

COMPETITIVE SPORTS

Erie Parks & Recreation strives to provide a positive, safe, and fun environment to allow children of all skill levels the opportunity to play. We hope to create an environment that balances teamwork, commitment, hard work, sportsmanship and competition. We provide 2-3 contacts per week with enthusiastic parent volunteer coaches, and hope that at the conclusion of the season your child learned about the game, improved skills, and wants to play again.

It is against Erie Parks & Recreation Youth Sports Leagues policy for players to concurrently participate in/on any same sport competitive league/team during any part of our respective recreational sports season. By registering and participating in any of our youth sports leagues, you acknowledge that you and the participant are abiding by this policy.

RECREATIONAL SPORTS AGE CLASSIFICATIONS For a majority of our leagues, we classify our league offerings by age. Unless otherwise noted in each program/league’s description, the age calculation date for all youth sports programs/leagues will be calculated by the first league contact day. • The “U” before the age number stands for “under” (e.g., U9 stands for ages under 9). • The “U” after the age number stands for “and under” (e.g., 9U stands for ages 9 and under).

REGISTRATIONS Registrations for all leagues will be accepted from when the league’s registration opens through the registration deadline or until each league reaches maximum capacity, whichever comes first. League practice days, times and locations are subject to change.

UNIFORMS All league fees include a game jersey or t-shirt depending on age. Additional items are not provided unless otherwise noted. If participant orders the wrong size uniform, they are responsible for the replacement cost. Jersey colors are chosen at random, no requests will be accepted, and uniforms may not be altered in any way.

With that said, we understand that Erie Parks & Recreation sports leagues do not fit everyone’s needs. We have compiled the following list of local organizations if you are looking for a more competitive offering for your child. This list is not all-inclusive and is intended to provide a few options to begin your research. LEAGUE BASEBALL Coal Creek Little League Kevin Wolver

All teams are coached by parent volunteers. If you are interested in coaching, please contact volunteer@erieco.gov and we will respond within 5 business days.

REQUIREMENTS? Volunteer coaches should have familiarity in the sport they are coaching and enjoy working with youth. In addition, volunteer coaches must complete a background screen and pass other league trainings as necessary before first contact.
