Breathtaking Beaches

Trans Canada Trail

Summerland Festival of Lights

Summerland has over a dozen beautiful sandy beaches and parks that enhance the community and provide visitors with some water fun and picnic opportunities. Relax on Powell, Rotary, Kin, Peach Orchard and Crescent Beaches or head out to Sunoka Beach Provincial Park where almost a mile of sandy beach awaits. Summerland’s Millennium Water Park on Lakeshore at Peach Orchard Beach is also sure to be great fun for kids of all ages!

Agri-Tourism Summerland was one of the first communities in the Okanagan Valley to embrace the development of the commercial fruit industry in the late 1800’s.  Over 100 years later it continues to thrive with the development of the Agri-Tourism industry.  Orchard Tours are offered at Dickinson Family Farm, showcasing the world’s tallest orchard ladder. Summerland Sweets factory offers beautiful jams, jellies, syrups and sweets all made locally. There are 16 wineries in the Summerland area. Winery Tours and tastings are offered at 8th Generation Vineyard, Back Door Winery, Dirty Laundry Vineyard, Sage Hills Vineyard, Saxton Winery, Silkscarf Winery, Sonoran Estate Winery, Sumac Ridge Estate Winery, Thornhaven Estate Winery and Tyler Harleton Winery. Quality fresh picked fruit and vegetables can be found at one of our five Fruit Stands or at our Farmer's Markets held every Tuesday May to October in Memorial Park.

Panoramas at Giant's Head Mountain Park The 360 degree view is spectacular from Giants Head Mountain Park – so named because the south face of the mountain resembles a man’s profile.  There is a parking lot near the summit where you can take two hiking trails – one winding – one challenging – to the peak.

During the summer it is extremely important to make sure your pet isn't left in a hot vehicle. Many people aren't aware just how quickly dogs & cats can overheat when left in a vehicle in hot weather. In just ten minutes the temperature in a parked car (even in the shade with the windows partly open) can reach a level that can seriously harm or even kill your pet. If you see an animal in distress trapped in a hot car, please call the SPCA or police immediately.

The magic of the Christmas season comes alive in the streets of Summerland during the fabulous Festival of Lights the last weekend in November…one of many festivals hosted by the community.  Bring your family and friends to experience the spirit of festival fun throughout the year!

With one of the longest playing seasons in Canada Summerland offers 18 holes of magnificent Championship golf at the Summerland Golf & Country Club and a nine-hole, par 28 course at Sumac Ridge Golf & Country Club. Enjoy the views and amenities that the Summerland golf courses provide, even if you don’t golf!

Enjoy the serenity of fishing one of the smaller lakes north and west of Summerland or brave the mighty Okanagan, which stretches for over 128 kilometres.  Make sure you visit The Summerland Trout Hatchery, which supplies over two million Kokanee, Rainbow Trout and Brook Char to 300 lakes in the region.

Kettle Valley Steam Railway “The Okanagan’s Heritage Railway”

Walk, hike, bike, and horseback the Summerland’s portion of the Trans-Canada Trail featuring 61 km of spectacular beauty and nature between Summerland and Osprey Lake. Start your journey at Fyffe Road, following the old flume line to the Kettle Valley Steam Railway’s Prairie Valley Station. There you will find a large map of the trail with markers one-kilometer apart all the way to Princeton. Portions of the trail are wheelchair and stroller friendly. Other areas to hike around Summerland include: Giant’s Head Mountain Park, Lakeshore Loop, Brigade Trail Park and the Centennial Trail. Don’t forget your camera!

Summerland is the perfect setting for a truly relaxing vacation or visit. An integral part of the Okanagan experience, Summerland’s natural beauty and small town warmth are a haven for the visitor who craves outdoor recreation, agri-tourism opportunities and rich cultural activities. Summerland’s charming downtown is filled with unique shops, cafés and bistros. Rural lifestyle with urban amenities. Heritage attractions include the historic Kettle Valley Steam Railway, which operates May through October and provides musical entertainment, special coach bookings and theme trains like the Great Train Robbery during summer months or the Christmas train in December; or you can tour the exquisite Ornamental Gardens, planted 100 years ago in 1916, and the Agriculture Museum, which are located at the Pacific Agri-Food Research Centre. Another “must see” historic feature in Summerland is the re-decked Trout Creek Canyon Bridge. Experience more panoramic views from Giants Head Mountain Park or wind your way above Prairie Valley along the Trans-Canada Trail.
