Spring Clean Spring-cleaning is the traditional way to dust away the cobwebs of winter and get set for summer. In recent years, the trend has been to go a step further and declutter your home, getting rid of all those unworn clothes and neglected items. Here are some suggestions for de-cluttering, downsizing or decorating using local talent. SELF-STORAGE Ian Powell, of self-storage firms All Boxed in Chippenham and Calne Self Store, says: “Research in the self-storage industry shows people are unaware what it can be used for. It can be useful for anyone, from a small business storing stock to decluttering the house, to storage for students while they are on holiday. “A lot of people imagine you have to tie up for so long however that’s not the case with us. Our minimum contract is one week. You have 24-hour, seven day a week access. It’s really simple - you come and go as you please, there’s CCTV and you can do it on the spot – you can do it online, you can come in and book one straight away. You can book anything from a small cupboard size up to a single garage size. “It can be used for anything - when the kids come back from university and you’ve got nowhere to put their trunk or they’re taking up the garage with all their stuff. A lot of people’s homes are full of their kids’ stuff because they’ve gone off travelling. “If you’re at home and think ‘I could do with some extra space’ or you’re clearing out the loft, perhaps it’s time to think of self-storage.”

All Boxed and Self Store offers an online space calculator to work out your requirements. Storage starts at £16 a week (plus VAT) for a 25 sq ft unit, to a 20ft long container for £40 per week (plus VAT). Ian says: “We have increased our self-storage to 146 internal units, 400 internal long-term storage crates and 52 external containers. “With our busy lives, creating extra space can be essential. Why not take advantage of self-storage to declutter the home or office and just drop in when you would like to use those golf clubs, lawn mowers or vinyl LP collections.” Simply visit www.allboxed.co.uk or www.calneselfstore.co.uk.

HEAVY LIFTING If you’re planning to take advantage of the brighter days to renovate your home, you may find you don’t know what to do with your belongings in the interim. Ian also runs Britannia Quickmove in Calne, a business which can help solve those problems. “If you are renovating your home and you need to clear a few rooms, we can come along with the wooden containers and the truck and your stuff can be loaded straight into the containers. We then bring it to our place and store it for you and when the renovation has finished we will deliver your items back to your home. “People look at hiring a van but you might pay £60 a day to do that and take up your own time – we can go in with the containers ready to do it all for you. The next time you see your stuff is when the house is refurbished.” Britannia is the UK’s largest moving group and has operated across the UK for more than 30 years. Anyone interested can even book a smartphone survey via the website to assess their needs. Visit www.britanniaquickmove.co.uk
