Why is Skateboarding So Popular?

Since skateboarding was born, it has grown to become one of the most popular activities in the world, with thousands, if not millions, of people jumping on their board every week. This might be in the form of vert skating, free skating or even just using the board to get from A to B, but they are all part of a tight community, with bands of skaters in every corner of the world. It is this community that is perhaps the main reason why skateboarding is so popular, as everyone wants to belong to some kind of movement. In skating, people find kindred spirits, when previously they might have felt isolated or alone. With magazines, websites, forums and video games, it is always possible to engage with the skating community, regardless of whether you live in Los Angeles, Bangkok or in the middle of the Arctic Circle. The adrenaline rush of skating is the other main reason why people want to get involved – and why they get hooked after their very first attempt at skating. Humans are the only species that seek out danger as a form of fun, and skating allows this in a relatively safe atmosphere. You might feel like you are doing something dangerous on the half-pipe, but in reality it isn’t likely to cause serious injury. Of course, some people go too far in this pursuit of adrenaline – just look at some of the skaters on Jackass! There are many reasons why you might love to skate, but the specifics don’t really matter. The fact is simple: if you love skating, make sure you do it every day, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!
