OUTDOORS Extend your visit and stay at the fully serviced campground conveniently located near the recreation area. Irma is also home to four baseball diamonds. The nine-hole Irma Golf Course has additional camping facilities. The Irma Summerspiel will celebrate its 33rd annual spiel in 2019 with teams from all over Alberta competing in curling, stick curling, golf, slow-pitch, target shooting, and other sporting events.

Visitor Information Centre at Wainwright Museum 1001 - 1st Ave. (Old CN Station) 780-842-3115 Wainwright is located on Highway 14, just over a two-hour drive east of Edmonton. The town has a historic feel, with a wide selection of boutiques and restaurants, plus opportunities to view wildlife or learn more about Canada’s rich prairie railroading history.

ATTRACTIONS & EVENTS Prairie history comes alive as you explore the Wainwright Museum, located in an original CNR train station. Share the stories of pioneers, military and the railway as well as Indigenous buffalo hunters, Hollywood movie crews, dedicated wildlife conservationists, long-suffering homesteaders, and moonshine-swilling prisoners of war (see also the CREAM Museum Tour page 21). Don’t forget to make tracks to the Battle River Train Trestle, the second longest train trestle in Canada.

Wainwright is the Buffalo Capital of Canada. Stop and take your photo at Canada’s largest Buffalo Statue in town; then visit the Bud Cotton Buffalo Paddock and see the live bison herd at the gates to CFB Wainwright. Festivals and events occur year round in Wainwright. Art lovers will enjoy the Arts Festival in February. Rodeo enthusiasts - be sure to take in the Wainwright Stampede in June. The Stampede is 4 days of action-packed family fun and entertainment.
