Camp Little Giant offers summer residential and day camp opportunities for people with various abilities and disabilities. As one of the first camps of its type in the nation, it provides each camper with a sense of appreciation, cooperation, accomplishment, independence, awareness and fun by offering a wide variety of activities in a safe environment.

CAMP OLYMPIA I - June 10-15 CAMP OLYMPIA II - June 10-22 For adults 21 and older with high care needs, low mobility or using a wheelchair.

The wooded setting, lake front and accessible environment allows us to combine the best of traditional camp programming with specially selected and adapted activities to meet the needs of our campers. Camp Little Giant provides 24-hour supervision, including a nurse onsite to handle all medical management and medication intake. We offer one-on-one assistance for our campers requiring the extra support. Our typical ratio is one staff member to no more than four campers.

2018 EDVENTURE CAMPS ECO CAMPS (AGES 7-10)

June 11-15: SURVIVAL 101 DAY CAMP ($225) Have you always wondered what it is like to survive in the wild like your pal Bigfoot? Come to Survival 101 and learn beginner survival skills and Leave No Trace principles. Touch of Nature’s staff will help campers gain the knowledge and experience of fundamental survival skills. Campers will get the opportunity to try something new by zooming down our zip-line, exploring the wilderness, shelter building and more. Two Sessions, June 18-22 AND July 16-20: X-TREME KIDS DAY CAMP ($225) X-Treme Kids Day Camp is the best way to get out and enjoy the wilderness. The fun never stops with each day full of exciting activities: hiking, paddleboat rides, nature art, ziplining, rock climbing and more. Take your memories home with your camp T-shirt. Get ready to get outside, have adventures and make new friends! June 25-29:

BLUE PLANET DAY CAMP ($225)

The fun never stops at Touch of Nature’s Blue Planet Adventure Day Camp. Campers will learn how to protect our most important natural resource by exploring the Little Grassy Lake watershed. While exploring the lake, campers will learn how to kayak by paddling to Touch of Nature’s Rocky Ledges. Campers will participate in water-based games, learn about aquatic animals, enjoy the thrill of riding on a zip-line, and get to ride on a pontoon boat. Each camper will be able to keep camp memories throughout the year by wearing their summer camp T-shirt and using their Blue Planet water bottle.


2018 EDVENTURE CAMPS EXPLORERS (AGES 10-13)

June 18-22: SURVIVAL 102 DAY CAMP ($275) Add optional overnight June 21 ($300) Create a better working relationship between yourself and nature in Touch of Nature’s 3,100 acres of wilderness. Learn advanced survival skills, tricks and tips. Activities include hiking, navigation using map and compass, canoeing, shelter and fire building, environmental stewardship, and much more! Campers will apply all their skills learned throughout the week to complete a survival challenge. *If you want an even bigger challenge, Survival 102 will offer an optional overnight experience on Thursday, June 21 for an additional $25. Pricing includes overnight supervision, all gear, Thursday night dinner, Friday breakfast, and lunch.

June 25-29: ADVENTURES UNDERWAY OVERNIGHT CAMP ($450) Experience a week of adventure at Touch of Nature! Spend the days rock climbing, walking on tight ropes, hiking, canoeing and more. Learn survival skills that would make Bear Grylls jealous! Explore what it is like to be a fish with “Try Scuba” at Mermet Springs (local scuba training center). While your adventures are underway, enjoy some classic camp traditions – roasting marshmallows over the fire, hanging out in our cabins and sleeping under the stars.


2018 EDVENTURE CAMPS EXPLORERS (AGES 10-13)

July 9-13: WILD OUTDOOR WEEK (W.O.W.) DAY CAMP ($275) Wild Outdoor Week (WOW!) day camp is the wildest way to spend summer days in Southern Illinois. Come join us for swimming, rock climbing, canoeing and ziplining! Your days will be jam-packed with all of that, plus learning survival skills and tie-dyeing your own souvenir T-shirt.

VOYAGEURS CAMPS (AGES 13-15)

June 11-15: LEADERSHIP SURVIVAL OVERNIGHT CAMP ($450) This unique camp gives future leaders the chance to work on their leadership skills with a week of simulated survival experiences. Learn new skills including ziplining, high ropes course, fire and shelter building, backcountry cooking, navigation skills, canoeing and hiking. Each camper will have an opportunity to be put in a leadership role during various survival challenges, all while being mentored by our experienced staff.


2018 EDVENTURE CAMPS VOYAGEURS CAMPS (AGES 13-15)

July 9-13 SOUTHERN ADVENTURES DAY CAMP ($300) At Southern Adventures Day Camp, campers get to explore the hidden gems of Southern Illinois. Spend your days going on new adventures by climbing sandstone bluffs, exploring swamps, and learning how to scuba dive at Mermet Springs (local scuba training center). The places you will explore include Jackson Falls, Bell Smith Springs, Heron Pond, and the Cache River. **Southern Adventures is limited to 14 participants.

July 16-20: RIVER RUNNERS OVERNIGHT CAMP ($500) Want to become an experienced paddler? This camp is just for you! Spend your first day of camp at Touch of Nature on Little Grassy Lake, then take your newly sharpened skills to Missouri’s breathtaking Eleven Point River! Spend nights camping on the banks, eating s’mores and stargazing. Wake up to explore the river, admire nature’s beauty and learn about your surroundings. **River Runners is limited to 12 campers. Cost includes transportation, food, gear and lodging.


2018 GIRL SCOUT RESIDENTIAL CAMPS

ALL GIRLS (GIRL SCOUT OR NON-GIRL SCOUT) ARE INVITED TO ATTEND ANY OF THESE CAMPS. GIRLS MAY ATTEND CAMPS EITHER FOR THE GRADE LEVEL THEY WILL ENTER IN FALL 2018, OR JUST COMPLETED.

Mini-Session: July 25-28, registration deadline: June 1 $255 ($50 deposit due at time of registration)

Groups of girls registering together – as a troop, family or as friends – receive a discount. The camp fee is only $235 per scout! (The girls must register at the same time)

BROWNIES (for grades 2-3) - LIVIN’ LIKE BIGFOOT

Have you ever gone out into the woods and felt like you were not alone? Well, maybe that’s because Bigfoot has been in the area. You’ll learn how to be untraceable in the great outdoors. When you’re not swimming, cooking over the fire or discovering the wonders of camp, you’ll go Bigfoot tracking!

JUNIORS (for grades 4-5) - SUPER HERO ACADEMY

Get ready for an adventure of heroic proportions as you become the superhero or supervillain of your dreams, and dress the part too! You’ll design logos, masks and more to create the perfect secret identity. Throughout this session, you’ll use your super powers to discover your own personal “super self” as you save innocent civilians in daring rock wall rescues or perform epic kitchen raid heists! CADETTES, SENIORS, AMBASSADORS (for grades 6-12) - I HUNGER FOR CAMP Do you volunteer as tribute? If so, come to camp and learn many important survival skills that help you survive this hunger for camp. You and your fellow tributes will train in the arts of fire building, survival skills, first aid, camouflage, and how to shoot a bow like Katniss. May the odds be ever in you favor!

DAISIES (for grades K-1) - DAISIES BIG DAY AT CAMP

Think you’re ready to come join other Girl Scouts at resident camp? Well… this is your chance to give camp a shot. Join us after breakfast and spend the day traveling around with the Brownies. This Big Day will help show you what fun things Brownies get to do at camp. If you think you are ready sign up, grab a swimsuit and towel… and we will see you at camp!

BROWNIES (for grades 2-3) -TEDDY AND ME

If you go down to the woods today you’re sure of a big surprise. Head to camp and bring your favorite teddy or stuffed animal along for an adventure! Teach teddy all about how great camp can be. You and teddy will spend time at the lake, make crafts, singing songs and exploring nature. After all that, you’ll find out where the teddy bears go for their picnics at Touch of Nature.

JUNIORS (for grades 4-5) - MERMADIA

Come meet new friends above and under the sea during this week of camp. You and your new two-legged friends will become mermaids and swim into all kinds of adventures. You will make your own bubble wands, spend extra time in the lake, find new underwater friends on a creek walk, and go on a scavenger hunt for sunken pirate treasure. If you need to regain your land legs, go on a hike, make some sea treasure crafts or shoot some arrows.


2018 GIRL SCOUT RESIDENTIAL CAMPS

CADETTES, SENIORS, AMBASSADORS (for grades 6-12) - GIRLS VS. WILD

Are you a W.I.L.D. woman? This is your chance to show off your skills or gain new ones. Touch of Nature is a great place to try new things and set forth on an expedition that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Girls will get a crash course in camping and Leave No Trace skills that will set them up for success in the outdoor professions. During the week we will load up our canoes, paddle across the lake for an overnight adventure to Giant City and go rock climbing on natural sandstone bluffs. Don’t worry though! There will still be plenty of time to swim in the lake, go jumping from the bluffs or make arts and crafts. Come take part in this wild, adventurous week of camp.

SENIORS, AMBASSADORS (for grades 9-12) - CIT

Do you think being a camp counselor would be the bee’s knees? The CIT (Counselor-in-Training) Program is an opportunity for older girls to participate in various camp activities while learning about becoming leaders, different leadership styles and camper dynamics. CITs will help lead activities for younger campers, shadow different staff members in their camp roles, and have opportunities to talk with camp administrators about what it takes to run a camp and work in the outdoor professions. Girls must take CIT training before coming to camp to get the second portion of their training (trainings can be found online at gsofsi.org throughout the year). CIT opportunities are available at ALL resident camp sessions.


REGISTRATION INFORMATION 2018 CAMP LITTLE GIANT

All staff members participate in an intensive pre-camp training to familiarize them with our camp programs, responsibilities, emergency procedures, skill training, certifications and other areas important to camp safety. Staff members are chosen for their experience, maturity and desire to work with people with various abilities and disabilities. Most counseling staff and activity specialists are from colleges and universities and are majoring in fields such as special education, therapeutic recreation, rehabilitation, outdoor education, physical therapy, and nursing. The staff regard working at Touch of Nature as an important professional experience and are dedicated to providing campers with the best experience possible. A physical within a year of the time camp starts is required, in addition to the Camp Little Giant application and assumption-ofrisk form. A nonrefundable $100 deposit is part of the registration fee. Forms are available on the Touch of Nature website at ton.siu.

2018 EDVENTURE CAMPS

Registration deadline is one week before the first day of camp. Registration is limited to a first-come, first-served basis. Discounts available on EDVENTURE CAMPS: Multi-camp discount: Register for ANY three or more camps and receive

a 10 percent discount off the third and additional registration fees. Multi-camper discount: Register ANY two campers and receive a 10 percent discount off the second and additional registration fees. Touch of Nature members at the Three Year Level ($150) or above receive a 10 percent discount on each camp. Contact the office for credit information.

Unless otherwise specified, all 2018 summer camps will meet at our Camp 2 facilities. Touch of Nature is located at 1206 Touch of Nature Road, Makanda, IL 62958.
