DESPERADO: THE HISTORY OF THE EAGLES

OCTOBER

Saturday 7 October 7.30pm In 2013, The Eagles released their two part “History of the Eagles” DVD, which quickly went platinum and the band followed it up with a two year tour of most of the world. Combining archival material and concert footage, the film explored the evolution and timeless popularity of the highest selling band in US history. Following the sad loss of Glenn Frey in 2016 the band is unlikely to tour again. Desperado, now in their 9th year, present the musical highlights of this landmark release in a musical journey through your favourite Eagles songs. www.desperadolive.co.uk T: £15.00 • C: £13.50

BARNABY RUDGE NORTHUMBERLAND THEATRE COMPANY Thursday 12 October 7.30pm A story of mystery and suspense which begins with an unsolved double murder, goes on to involve conspiracy, blackmail, abduction and retribution and features Grip, a talking pet raven! As London erupts into riot, fathers and sons become opposed, apprentices plot against their masters, there are violent clashes on the streets and Barnaby Rudge struggles to escape the curse of his own past. With its high drama, strange secrets and ghostly doublings, Barnaby Rudge is a powerful blend of historical realism and ‘grotesque’ melodrama, imagined through Stewart Howson’s unique interpretation: this will be NTC at its physical and Gothic best! A CRAWL DOWN THE OGRE WITH DOUG SCOTT CBE Monday 20 November 7.30pm An epic tale of hard climbing and survival that has now become part of mountaineering folklore. The Ogre (7,285 m) is the most difficult high mountain to climb in the world; there is no easy way to the summit. On July 13, 1977, Doug Scott and Chris Bonington reached the summit for the first time, after very difficult rock climbing at an altitude where there is only half the oxygen in the atmosphere than at sea level. The success of their ascent quickly turned to nightmare; Doug slammed into a rock, breaking both legs and had to crawl back to base ~ an epic journey which took eight days ~ and the danger didn’t end there. Doug will share the rest of the story and many other mountaineering experiences in the fascinating talk. Funds raised from this event will go to Community Action Nepal and World Challenge.
