Director’s message Dean’s message Management Meet Book publishing Industy visits Treasured memories Invited lecture series Participation in National Seminars Faculty Achievements

Dear students, I understand that the second volume of the News Letter Top Notch is ready. The Faculty members of the various colleges have informed me that Top Notch is an informative news letter which gives a vivid picture of the college and it also gives useful information on management.

The success of any institute is determined by the teachers and students, their calibre and their attitude to succeed and out -perform. People in the institute are the only resource which appreciates with time and age unlike machine which gets devalued and depre-

cate. People are very precious for the growth of the institute.

Faculty members, staff, students even though they have a specific job function you should always understand that you are unified with all other members to accomplish the overall objectives. There should be a big picture in front of you that should drive your actions. Your function exists to see the bigger picture.

Managerial talent lies hidden in all of us to varying extent. Proper management education helps us to unravel and develop it to the maximum possible level. In this fast changing corporate world where 360 degree professionalism is highly sought after, our pedagogy not only

practices it for the academic team but is inculcating the same in Young Managers. Lively and interactive classroom sessions expose our students in understanding the dynamics of professional practices in our strategically learning environment.

My message would be incomplete without complimenting our faculty, staff and students who put in concerted efforts towards achieving our vision of global quality standards. I wish all success in life. Dr.K.GOPALAKRISHANAN NAIR Dean

work and personal growth.

He has 10 years of teaching experience and has more than 42 international publications in his name. He is an editorial board and review board member of several national and international journals and PhD guide in many national and foreign universities.

This book is intended to help students have a better idea of managing Human Resources. The topic of performance management involves more than

evaluation of performance. Performance Management includes providing meaningful feedback, collaborating with workers to solve performance problems, and developing improved levels of performance.

Performance Management should involve the manager in diagnosing the sources of performance difficulties and in helping to find solutions to those problems. Managing performance requires understanding of factors that influence performance, from ability and motivation to factors external to the worker. A manager also needs to understand the various options that might be employed as potential means to improve performance. Effective performance management requires far more than simply completing the annual appraisal form.

This book is mainly targeted at Business schools, Budding Managers and Entrepreneurs, although others could also benefit for reference as a life- long companion. The purpose is to provide you with conceptual understanding of the topic area. Understanding the contextual factors can help students and managers on performance management more effectively.
