What Are Sidewalk Violations and How to Get Rid of Them?

New York City Council has a lot of laws concerning maintenance and upkeep of the surroundings in order to keep the city neat and well-organized, and one such

law concerning sidewalks state that sidewalks present outside buildings and private properties are responsibilities of the owners of those properties. The law even states that the owners themselves should construct the sidewalk in the first place at their own cost. This is done to make maintaining sidewalks easy and quick. However, those sidewalks becomes the responsibility of the owners of adjacent properties, and any dispute or accident happening as a result of these sidewalks quickly engulfs the owner too. To prevent any such disputes, the DOT regularly inspects sidewalks randomly all over Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island, Queens and the Bronx to check for any defects, and issues a sidewalk violation notice to the concerned property owner in case the officials find any discrepancies.

Sidewalk violation is issued if the sidewalk is not up to the standards set by Department of Transport. This may include broken sidewalks, sidewalks with tiles missing, trees growing out of sidewalks and uneven sidewalks. If a property owner is issued a sidewalk violation in Brooklyn or in any other borough, he/she is given 75 days to fix the issues and request a re-inspection in order to remove the violation. At this point, recipients of sidewalk violation notice can hire a suitable local sidewalk repair contractor in order to get the repairs done within the stipulated

time frame. Sidewalk repair contractors have to first obtain all necessary permits that gives them the right to work on those sidewalks. After that, the sidewalk is appropriately repaired or replaced (if necessary) as per as the city guidelines.

After the sidewalk is repaired, the property owner has to request a re-inspection of the sidewalk, and after successful validation, the violation notice is removed. For more information visit: https://tonysmasonry.com
