It’s that spooky time of year again where we all have an excuse to dress up as ugly witches, and spine-curdling wart-infested zombies. Here in the USA they make a bigger deal out of Halloween than they do in many other countries. Unfortunately, for the last two years I have lived in homes where trick and treaters did not visit, as the houses were out of the way or in particularly quiet and boring neighbourhoods. But this year is a different story. This year we are now living in a house in a neighbourhood where there are lots of children, which means trick or treaters will be out in their droves. The lady who lived in this house before us said that last year she had a huge bagful of candy to give out and it was all gone within an hour. And then she had to turn off the lights and hide away to avoid confronting disappointed kiddies for the rest of the night. So my husband and I realise we need to be prepared, and for good measure we are planning on putting baby Ty in a cute little scary costume to get into the spirit of things (excuse the deliberate pun)! Shortly after Halloween the three of us will be winging back to Spain to embark on a six week holiday in Torre del Mar, where Ty will celebrate his first birthday, plus his second Christmas. It will be a chance for his uncles and aunt to meet him for the first time, and also his three cousins who live in Spain. Plus his Nanny and Granddad will be getting lots of time with him (a break for my husband and I!)

That’s pants A burglar’s strong underwear game led to his downfall when his distinctive pants were held up in court. Darren Machon was sporting some powerful Topman boxers with patterns of hot dogs, chips, doughnuts and hamburgers when he broke into a house in South Wales. A woman who lives in the home in Bridgend saw the 39-year-old’s colourful underwear because his trousers were hanging down. A spokesman for South Wales Police said: ‘The pants were unmistakable and were described by a woman who had got within just a few feet of Machon as she caught him red handed, bent over, rummaging through her downstairs cupboards at approximately 6.40am. ‘He growled at her as he ran past her and out of the house but was later positively identified by the woman.’ He has since been jailed.

Rod A Choo Choo Every man should have a hobby – and Rod Stewart’s is building model train sets. In fact, he has a 1:87 scale model of New York’s Grand Central Station, circa 1940, measuring 1,500 square feet. He’s so attached to them, he takes them on tour with him and has posh hotels clear out entire rooms especially for his train set. He previously said of his pastime: ‘All my cases come in and they set up tables and lamps and it becomes my workshop. I do it on the road. Every man should have a hobby. ‘I’ve looked into buying a real one and it’s closer than you think. I’d love to own a steam engine and just sit on one.’ Rod also regularly covers on model train enthusiasts’ magazine Model Railroader, of which he says: ‘Every three years, Model Railroader magazine puts me on their cover, which is better than being a Rolling Stone.’

Computer Paranoia A great many people are daunted by the power and complexity of computers and are deathly afraid of them. Sometimes warnings about viruses or hackers on TV magazine programs scares the living daylights out of people, complicating the issue. Paranoia is an integral part of the role computers play in society today. But some people take it to gross extremes Customer: "Well, I just want to know if I load this disk into my computer, won't other people be able to get into my computer and access everything I have in there?" Tech Support: "No, that's not possible." Customer: "You see it on the TV all the time." Me: "DSL is a lot faster. It--" Friend's Father: "Yeah, but if you have DSL, there are a lot of threats." Me: "Yes, that's true to a degree, but there are firewalls that--" Friend's Father: "No, but they can hack into your computer even when it's off and steal your electricity." Me: "Umm...I'm pretty sure that won't happen."

Friend's Father: "It's all over the news. You mean to tell me they're wrong?" Me: "...I guess so." I work for the computer help desk of a large university. One of our more memorable clients is infamous for what I can only describe as techno-paranoia. The last time she called to tell us we were going to have to do something about the "Internet Communists." She was convinced that they were getting into her PC through her television and putting typographical errors in her word processing files. "They weren't there before," she insisted, "and I don't make those kinds of mistakes!" Once I helped a friend get online for the first time. Me: "Ok, do you have your Internet Explorer open" Him: "What!? Your Internet EXPLODED?" He was hysterical. I explained it all to him, but he was still terrified. Later, when I was done showing him how to surf the web, he asked: Him: "Are you sure the Internet is safe to use?"

De Cotta Law - Child Abduction Changing your Children’s country of residence – Child Abduction The summer holidays are coming to an end and for some families this means the end of a stay with a parent who lives or works in a different country. Perhaps the children want to remain in the UK after a holiday there, or they may want to move to Spain where they have enjoyed a long holiday visit with the non-custodial parent. Any change made without the agreement of both parents can lead to lengthy and stressful Hague Convention Child Abduction proceedings. Sadly, some parents think that they can apply for custody after they have moved to a new country or returned to their home country. However if you don´t have agreement about moving you must firstly apply to the courts in the country of your “habitual residence” for leave to remove the children. The European definition of residence for children is the country where they have school and friends and become settled. The younger the child the more quickly they will acquire a country of residence. For the parent who wishes to leave the country of habitual residence there is a heavy burden of proof to show that it is in the best interests of the children. In cases already dealt with in courts throughout Spain and the islands, we were able to show that the children would benefit from the move because they were returning to their home country with good opportunities for education, and where the family had a strong supporting network. The financial circumstances also need to be proved showing that the mother or father who has custody of the children can work or be better supported in the other country.

Each case is different but in all cases it is important to propose or agree a proper programme of visits for the parent who does not have custody. This should also include telephone, email or Skype contact to ensure that moving country has a limited effect on the parental relationships with the children. As with many aspects of Family and Inheritance law, prevention is always better than cure and it is definitely best to seek advice before changing your country of residence with your children. For confidential information on your particular circumstances contact or telephone 952 527014

Things You Didn’t Know About Halloween Spooky Facts.......

trying to convert the pagans.

1. There's a $1,000 fine for using or selling Silly String in Hollywood on Halloween. The prank product has been banned in Hollywood since 2004 after thousands of bored people would buy it and "vandalise" the streets.

4. Halloween symbols aren't random. Black cats, spiders, and bats are all Halloween symbols because of their spooky history and ties to Wiccans. All three were thought to be the familiars of witches in the middle ages, and are often associated with bad luck.

2. Dressing up on Halloween comes from the Celts. Celts believed Samhain was a time when the wall between our world and the paranormal world was porous and spirits could get through. Because of this belief, it was common for the Celts to wear costumes and masks during the festival to ward off or befuddle any evil spirits. 3. The moniker "Halloween" comes from the Catholics. Hallowmas is a three-day Catholic holiday where saints are honored and people pray for the recently deceased. At the start of the 11th century, it was decreed by the pope that it would last from Oct. 31 (All Hallow's Eve) until Nov. 2, most likely because that was when Samhain was celebrated and the church was

5. A full moon on Halloween is extremely rare. The next full moon on Halloween won't occur until 2020. The most recent Halloween full moon was back in 2001, and before that it was in 1955. 6. Halloween is still the Wiccan New Year. Halloween originates from a Celtic tradition called Samhain, a festival that marked the end of the Celtic calendar year in Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man. They believed it was a time that spirits or fairies could enter our world, and the Celts would put out treats and food to placate the spirits — sometimes, a place at the table was even set for the souls of the dead.

interesting Facts... North Korea emerged in 1948, amid the chaos following the end of World War 2 and is one of the few countries still under nominally communist rule. Its history is dominated by its Great Leader, Kim Il-sung, who shaped political affairs for almost half a century. The most visited ‘attraction’ in North Korea is the body of Kim-Jong II, displayed in a glass tomb. North Korea has just three television channels, two of which are only available at weekends. Half of the population live in extreme poverty and over 200,000 prisoners fill an estimated 16 work camps. North Korea has the largest stadium in the word which has more than 150,000 seats. There are 28 state approved haircuts you can choose from. North Korea has the fourth-largest standing army in the world.

Real Life Halloween Crimes A few crimes that happened at Halloween The Hanging Woman, 2005 - A few days before Halloween 2005 in Frederica, Delaware, decorations were abundant. The town was ready for the holiday, with cobs webs, Jack-OLanterns, rubber monsters, and one very grisly hanging body amid the decor. As it turns out, a 42-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself from a tree in a very public residential area. The body hung 15 feet high without alarm for hours before residents started to notice that the body was not rubber-made. The Grand Finale, 1963 - On Halloween night, the Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum hosted a "Holiday on Ice" skating exhibition. Unbeknownst to the attendees, a propane tank leaked through the entire performance, filling the unventilated room with doom. As the skaters prepared for their pinwheel finale, the gas made its way to an electric popcorn machine, igniting a massive explosion killing 75 people. The scene was considered by the fireman to be the most gruesome event the town had seen.

Disappearance of Stevie Damman, 1955 Mrs. Damman left her two-year-old son Stevie to watch her seven-month-old daughter on the street, while she went shopping. When she emerged from the store, the toddler and the baby were nowhere to be seen. A few blocks away the stroller was found with her little girl unscathed. Stevie however, was nowhere to be found. There were rumours that Mrs. Damman was abusive, though no official reports were filed. To this day, Stevie or his remains have not been found and no new information has been added to the case. Was it a kidnapping? Murder? A runaway? An abuse cover-up? No one knows. The Armed Eggers, 1998 - Karl Jackson and his girlfriend were driving through the Bronx on Halloween night when they were aggressively egged by a group of teenagers. Karl got out of his girlfriend's car to reprimand the teenagers, expecting them to run off. Instead, 17-year-old Curtis Sterling pulled out a gun and shot Karl in the chest. Karl was killed instantly. Because Sterling was a minor, he is serving only a 20 year prison sentence.

The Journey Intensive, 25th-27th November, Órgiva. EMOTiONAL FREEDOM PHYSiCAL HEALiNG Taking care of the root cause, not just the symptom ‘Stored emotional pain in cellular memories causes the body to shut down.’ ‘Not being able to forgive leads to illness’. These are not random new age notions; these are headlines from recently published scientific articles and news features. Luckily science is catching up with what The Journey founder Brandon Bays already experienced back in the late nineties: by accessing her subconsciously stored emotional pain, releasing it and finally finding forgiveness, she saw a basketball size tumour disappear from her body in only 6 weeks – without surgery or medical treatment. Her own healing process became the foundation for The Journey work that by now has been taught in 47 countries around the world. Her book ‘The Journey’ has been translated into 21 different languages, hitting the bestseller status on many different occasions. Since its introduction, The Journey has become a widely applied tool for not just physical but also emotional and mental healing and for personal empowerment. It’s become a conduit for clear and authentic communication, therefore affecting many relationships and family dynamics around the world. Therapists and coaches have embraced this work because of its easy and effective application and its lasting results. And many of

today’s spiritual seekers found instant freedom by letting The Journey process work reconnect them with the source of who they really are. The Journey offers a personal transformation track and an accredited practitioner program. Both tracks start with the 3-day Journey Intensive. In April, the first ever Journey Intensive in Spain was given by international Journey practitioners and presenters Arnold & Claire Timmerman. When they moved to Spain, Arnold and Claire felt compelled to introduce the work that they had been doing around the world with the founder Brandon Bays since 2000. Once the first Journey Intensive had taken place in Órgiva (Province Granada), the interest in their Journey seminars and 1-1 work increased. So Arnold and Claire decided to schedule a next one: 25-27 November. ‘Since April, the word is spreading how easy it is to uncover, access and clear out the root cause of all kinds of issues. We worked with people struggling with physical, emotional and mental symptoms but also with everyday people who sometimes feel bogged down by life’s circumstances or reasons unknown to them. They just don’t know how to really deal with them. The Journey Intensive teaches them through their own firsthand experience. We’re very excited to see whom we will meet at the next 3-day Intensive in November.’ For more information and Early Bird Discount see main advert opposite

Empty Promises With the promise of the clean slate of a new school year looming, Mummy is going to turn over a new leaf and become Mrs Super Organised Perfect Mummy :) This year Mummy is going to get up in time to do her hair and make up before school, and then leave the house in time to walk the children there briskly, perhaps singing a rousing chorus from the Sound of Music on the way. No longer will a mad haired pyjama clad Mummy be seen hustling the cherubs into the car at 8.55am, shouting "JUST HURRY UP AND GET IN THE CAR!" Mummy is going to go through their school bags carefully after school each afternoon, perhaps while the children are eating the delicious home made snack she has lovingly prepared for them, because obviously the children will also be turning over a new leaf and will develop a sudden passion for nutritious food and vitamins etc. Mummy will read the letters in the school bags properly, and not just skim through them muttering darkly at the ones that require money, before chucking them all in a pile in the corner or losing them. Mummy will then make a note on the calendar of any important dates and events mentioned in the letters. Mummy will also read ALL the emails the school sends out about eleventy billion times a day and absorb the helpful information contained within. Not only this, but Mummy will actually check the calendar each evening to see what is coming up in the next week, instead of being confronted by a furious child ten minutes before they are due to leave the house demanding to know where their home made World Book Day/ International Day/ Children In Need costume is. This will probably cost Mummy an absolute fortune too, because she will have to give the children actual money for all the bake sales etc, instead of turning up the end of the day with no cash and scrabbling through her pockets to find a stray 20p encrusted with dog biscuits and instructing the children to haggle for whatever they can get for it, but you can't put a price on love, can you? Mummy will also make some sort of colour coded chart for all the children's extracurricular activites, so she knows exactly who she is tak-

ing where and when, thus avoiding forgetting any children anywhere this year. In addition, Mummy will listen carefully when they relate the endless sagas of how "Tilly said to Milly so Katie took Lucy's and then Milly told Sophie and Sophie said..." or "And then I swapped Toby that Moshi Monster for this Ultra Rare, but he only had a Golden and so then I swapped with Eddie for his Roxy and then..." Mummy will no longer tune out and think about wine whilst occasionally mumbling "Uh huh. Right. Yes, very unfair. What? Of course I'm listening!" Homework will be completed as soon as it is handed out, not the night before it is due in, and however stupid the craft projects that are set as 'homework', Mummy will not make subversive comments to the children such as what exactly are they going to learn about space by making a 'space pack' out of cereal boxes. Instead she will serenely browse Pinterest for inspiration before joining in with the pointless activity.

Empty Promises parental competition to make the best craft project for her child, while her child glues itself to the table due to being forbidden to help in case its foolish, little, childish hands destroy the wonder and perfection that is being created for the other parents to gawp at and feel inferior to. Finally, Mummy will check lunchboxes for alien matter as soon as they come home; not shout "What the hell are you covered in, that was your only clean jumper because you have 'lost' the others!" when said alien matter is also coating the children, and will volunteer to help on at least one school trip. Mummy is toasting all these good intentions in some lovely Pink Sunshine Wine, although Pink Sunshine Wine on a school night may well be the thin of the wedge that stops any of these things from actually happening. Linea Directa A HiSTORiC REFERENDUM On Thursday June 23, the people of Britain voted for a British exit, or Brexit, from the European Union in a historic referendum. This decision has prompted jubilant celebration whilst sending shockwaves through the global economy. Over the next two years or so, Britain will negotiate its exit under article 50 of the Treaty on European Union. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER BRiTAiN EXiTS THE EU Through the withdrawal negotiations, nothing will change for British expats in Spain because the UK will remain part of the EU during this transitional period. However, what happens after Britain has left the EU and how this may affect you is still unclear. LEGAL ASSiSTANCE SERViCE Whilst many questions remain unanswered, Línea Directa would like to remind all its customers that its Legal Assistance service comes as standard in all their insurance policies. If you have a query you can call one of our lawyers. They offer information and advice on a wide range of matters such as taxes, purchase and rental of property, inheritance, family etc. As the Brexit negotiations evolve, our legal team will keep abreast of all the latest de-

velopments relating to events occurring in the Spanish territory and those to which Spanish legislation is applicable. 24-HOUR ASSiSTANCE FOR EMERGENCY LEGAL CONSULTATiONS Should you require an immediate legal consultation, which due to the gravity of the matter in hand cannot wait, we offer a 24-hour legal advice service. Regardless of the time of day, we can provide immediate specialist legal advice for emergency incidents relating to you, your family or your home. iN ENGLiSH The service is entirely in English. From the drafting and revision of legal documents to negotiations with third parties and or opposing parties. We can’t provide all the answers to the questions raised by the Britain’s exit of the EU, but we can provide sound legal advice for our expatriate customers living in Spain. A cat's urine glows under a black light. (I wonder who was paid to figure that out.) An ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain. (I know some people like that.) Starfish have no brains. (I know some people like that too.)

A cat's jaw cannot move sideways.

Polar bears are left-handed (Who knew...? Who cares!)

If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee. (Hardly seems worth it)

Humans and dolphins are the only species that have sex for pleasure.

If you passed gas consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb.

Peanuts are one of the ingredients of dynamite.

The human heart creates enough pressure when it pumps out to the body to squirt blood 30 feet. A pig's orgasm lasts 30 minutes. ( In your next life do you want to be a pig?) A cockroach will live nine days without its head before it starves to death. Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour. (Do not try this at home ..maybe at work!) The male praying mantis cannot copulate while its head is attached to its body. The female initiates mating by ripping the male's head off. The flea can jump 350 times its body length. It's like a human jumping the length of a football field. The catfish has over 27,000 taste buds. (What can be so tasty on the bottom of the pond?) Some lions mate over 50 times a day. (Maybe a lion is better in your next life!!)  Butterflies taste with their feet. (Something I always wanted to know) The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue. Recipe Of The Month It is always fun trying out new recipes and ideas for our ever popular cookie / dessert table – apart form the fact I simply love baking! The other day whilst sorting out some of my Mums old recipes cards I found this one that sounded rather tempting - Caramel Apple Squares. Prepare a hot oven 195 degrees – Fan 2.) Sift flour & salt into a bowl 3.) Rub in marg/butter until the mixture resembles bread crumbs 4.) Stir in brown sugar 5.) Spread over a shallow square tin (15cm Square) 6.) Peel, core and slice the apples place in a pan with caramel fudge sauce and heat until just warm, remove from the heat and arrange over the mixture in the tin 7.) Sprinkle with cinnamon 8.) Place in the oven and bake for 30 mins This dessert can be eaten hot or cold, it is delicious served warm with a heaped spoonful of vanilla ice cream.

Good luck and Enjoy... Sue x

Aston Viñuela Football Club - Lady Members Wanted Aston Viñuela Football Club has been established for 6 years and without the help of its volunteers, who coach and manage the teams – and not forgetting the sponsors – it would not have been possible It all started in 2009 when a group of friends started having a kick about at Hotel Viñuela sports court. The numbers grew – and so did the desire to play on a full-size pitch – so after speaking with the Town Hall the enthusiasts discovered the community football ground was not being used at all. They were granted permission to train at the pitch and through word of mouth, numbers grew steadily – eventually creating the first football team in 2012.

aged 6 to 14. All coaching is supervised by a qualified official UEFA coach and each team has its own coach and support group. For more information on how to play, or try out a free training session, contact us via the facebook page Aston Viñuela CF. The ladies’ team particularly are looking to expand its numbers (Whatsapp 634498185) Sponsors: Ayuntamiento La Viñuela, Hair & Beauty Studio, Villa Solutions, Restaurante El Charco

Now, the Viñuela football pitch, overlooking the lake by the turnoff for the hotel, is home to four football teams: an A and B team (18 to 35yrs), veterans (over 35yrs) and the ladies team (mostly over 25yrs). Various training sessions are held during the week with matches at the weekends, where spectators can cheer on the players and enjoy the food and drink from the pitch’s own bar. There are also training sessions for children

Axarquia Animal Rescue Foster homes desperately needed to cope with deluge of abandoned animals 5 years ago Axarquia Animal Rescue was formed to help the abandoned and unwanted dogs and cats littering the countryside of the region. Since then they have re-homed over 1,500 animals. This year, the charity, run totally by volunteers, has been contacted to help rescue a far higher volume of abandoned animals than average. So much so it is difficult to cope with the constant influx of dogs and cats, especially puppies and kittens found abandoned, they are often dumped in bags or boxes either inside or near rubbish bins, sometimes on the roadside or even in sacks in river beds!

Computerised analysis of water Tests for bacteria can detect the presence of e-coli, shigella, enterobacter & many others Results in 17 minutes

The number of animals needing rescue has been overwhelming, resulting in difficulties in locating volunteer foster homes to take these unfortunate little souls. When puppies or kittens are rescued their situation is life threatening so there is no alternative but to take them on. The pool of foster carers, so desperately needed for these animals, has all but dried up and people are unavailable as they take holidays during the height of summer. The charity does not have its own kennelling facilities and relies totally on the goodwill of fosterers, along with the support of a team of volunteers. Many puppies and kittens need hand rearing which puts pressure on those fosterers that remain.

More volunteer foster homes are desperately needed for both long and short term fostering of cats and dogs. All food and vet costs are paid by AAR. AAR’s Foster Co-ordinator, Steph Powell, oversees a dedicated Facebook page for fosterers which allows networking across the fostering team. She also holds monthly coffee mornings for fosterers and potential fosterers at Trapiche market the first Tuesday of every month at 11am. Anyone interested in becoming a foster carer can contact her and other team members by e-mail at or by attending one of the coffee mornings. Further information is also available on the AAR website If you love dogs or cats & think you can give a temporary home to one, why not contact one of the team, we’d love to hear from you.

The Meaning Of October October is the 10th month of the year and a host to a multitude of holidays, most notably Halloween and Oktoberfest October Is Latin for ‘The Eighth Month’ October literally translates to “eighth month.” Because the original Roman calendar began with March, October was the eighth month, just as September, meaning seven, was the seventh month. October is associated with autumn or fall.

October 12th - 1492, Christopher Columbus landed in America. November 5th - World Teacher's Day Columbus Day - second Monday of October October 31st - Halloween or Hallowe'en (a contraction of All Hallows' Evening), also known as Allhalloween, All Hallows' Eve, or All Saints' Eve, is a celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day.

The October birthstone is tourmaline and opal, its zodiac signs are Libra (September 23-October 22) and Scorpio (October 23-November 21). The birth flower is the calendula. In the US, October is National Pizza Month, Popcorn Month, Pork Month and Sausage Month. October is not mentioned in any Shakespeare play or sonnet.

Tagging his partner in the upbeat tweet, Carice then repsonded with a slew of cute baby emojis. Drake, who looked dapper in a smart black suit and bow tie for the occasion, heaped praise on the Bajan singer during his heartfelt speech. He told the crowd they'd met 11 years ago, and said he's been in love with her pretty much ever since. "She is someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22 years old," he gushed. "She’s one of my best friends in the world. All my adult life I’ve looked up to her." He also praised the star, who performed four times on the night, for never changing.

Goodbye Gene Tributes have been pouring in following the death of Gene Wilder at the age of 83. The star died after a secret Alzheimer’s battle followed a glittering Hollywood career. The Hollywood star had a long and storied movie career but was by far best known for his role as Willy Wonka. The news of his death led to an outpouring of grief from Hollywood with his friend Mel Brooks leading the tributes. The director said: “Gene Wilder - one of the truly great talents of our time. He blessed every film we did with his magic and he blessed me with his friendship.” Mr Walker-Pearlman said the actor had chosen to keep his Alzheimer's secret so that children who knew him as Willy Wonka would not equate the whimsical character with an adult disease.

The stonefish is the most venomous fish in the world – its venom can kill within an hour if not treated – but they are kept in aquaria all over the world due to their unusual appearance. There are five species of stonefish that can be found in the coastal regions of the Indian and Pacific oceans. Some species of stonefish live in rivers. Usually, stonefish live close to coral reefs and underwater rocks. They often lie buried in the sand in shallow water. Stonefish are eaten as a delicacy in Asia. The size of a stonefish depends on the

species. It usually reaches 14 to 20 inches in length and up to 5 pounds in weight. The body of a stonefish is covered with encrusted brown or grey skin, with red, orange or yellow patches. Thanks to its specific texture and colour, stonefish easily blend in with their environment – they look like a stone or a part of the coral reef. The dorsal fin of a stonefish is modified into 13 spines, which they raise up whenever they are threatened. Venom is produced in the gland located in the base of each spine. This venom will be released after application of pressure – for example if someone steps on the fish hidden in the sand. The amount of venom released is proportional to the applied pressure – in other words, the greater the pressure, the greater the amount of venom. Empty venom sacs will be refilled in a couple of weeks.

Amazing Marine Life (Continued) Venom produced by stonefish induces severe pain, paralysis and tissue necrosis. Since it may lead to heart failure, quick medical help is essential. Complete recovery requires an adequate amount of anti-venom. The stonefish is a carnivore (meat-eater). Its diet consists of various types of fish and shrimps. Stonefish hunt their prey using the factor of surprise (an ambush predator). They wait patiently for the prey to appear and then swallow it in a blink of an eye. The whole attack lasts 0.015 seconds. The stonefish is a slow swimmer, except when it chases its prey. Stonefish have several predators, such as big sharks (great white and tiger shark) and rays. Unlike other species of fish, the stonefish is able to survive 24 hours outside the water. Another interesting characteristic of stonefish is that it can spit water.

Stonefish can live as solitary creatures or as a part of a group. Just as in many other marine creatures, fertilisation takes place in the water. The female releases a huge number of eggs that will be sprayed with the male's sperm. These eggs are food for many sea creatures and only a small number of fertilised eggs will survive and reach maturity. Stonefish can survive from 5 to 10 years in the wild.

People Who Come And Go - Alex and Inge As mentioned in my previous article (September 2016) the Dutch and Belgians are buying up properties in Southern Spain as if the stock were going to run out!! Most are early retirement couples looking to let their properties and enjoy them themselves, but we are finally beginning to see the return of the younger generations too! Alex and Inge are a young Dutch couple with 2 year old twin children. They work hard, but are very family orientated. “We are most happy when we can both be with our kids at the same time and love to travel the world. For the future we are making plans that will allow us to spend more time with the kids; to be together,” says Alex. So they started to think about Spain, how to combine their desire to travel with family time and possibly making some money too! And that is when they found a beautiful, very large, renovated cortijo on a large plot in unspoilt countryside, only 20 minutes inland from Malaga city – and they are working hard to raise the money to buy it this Autumn and make it their own! “We want to make this new house into a very special place for families to rent and have

some real quality 'together time'. Relaxed for the kids and the parents as well!! This house will hopefully provide us with some income, but it will also be a really special place to celebrate holidays with our kids ourselves. Who knows what the future will hold for us with this house? There are lots of opportunities we are considering! One thing we hope is that everyone who enters the house will enjoy it and will make special memories there under the Andalucian sun!” Inge runs a specialist massage clinic for pregnant women and children – perhaps one day she will be working in her trade under the sun too! Asbestos - Have You Been In Contact?

In this edition, I thought I would look at a number of questions that often arise and that make people worried about the possibility of making a claim. My message is, if in doubt ask!

breathing difficulties can be attributed to asbestos. This is the point we have to prove in all respiratory disease cases, not just asbestos related but also, for example, silicosis – medical evidence is required to prove a link.

i CANNOT REMEMBER WHERE i WORKED OR THE COMPANY i WORKED FOR NO LONGER EXiSTS. It is not unusual for companies that traded in the 1960’s, for example, to have long since stopped trading. With investigations I can trace insurers who provided cover for these companies and they are obliged to deal with the claims. Even if you are hazy about the exact name of a company or your period of employment with them, I can obtain your work history from HM Revenue & Customs and this provides confirmation of who you worked for all those years ago.

Claims for breathing problems caused by exposure to asbestos can be complex but the quicker the claim is started the quicker these issues can be dealt with. So, if you are concerned about your particular situation or have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch. I am happy to talk to you free of charge.

i HAVE BEEN DiAGNOSED WiTH AN ASBESTOS CONDiTiON BUT i DiD NOT WORK WiTH ASBESTOS. I always like to meet my clients and it is surprising how often, when you start talking about a persons work history, what they remember. Often, it turns out that even if a person did not actually work with asbestos, they worked alongside people who did and therefore came into contact with dust. Another possibility, and a particularly sad one in my experience, is a wife who comes into contact with asbestos from her husband’s work clothes. A RELATiVE HAS DiED FROM AN ASBESTOS RELATED CONDiTiON BEFORE MAKiNG A CLAiM It is not widely known that claims can be made even though the person affected has died (provided the claim is made within 3 years of death). The claim is made on behalf of the persons estate. DiAGNOSiNG AN ASBESTOS RELATED CONDiTiON There are a number of conditions that can be caused by exposure to asbestos, including lung cancer. The main issue is whether the

La Vaqueria - Benamargosa So, in September we started our new...1st Sunday of the month Music Sunday Lunch... fantastic. What a great turnout and thank you to all of the new musicians and vocalists who came to support Spencer Maybe. As it was such a success it is now a regular music event along with our 3rd Sunday each month Music Sunday Lunch hosted by Flip which is always very popular and sometimes full up so booking ahead is a good idea! Our Lunches have become even more popular as our reputation for good honest home cooked food spreads. We are also now covering a range of diets so we hope that we can give most people plenty of choice, everyone can now enjoy the experience! Autumn is now taking hold, fruits are being gathered and summer salads are making way for warming soups; with a new menu every week we always have something for everyone. During the week we have welcomed new students to our regular art groups so lots of fun as absolute beginners start to see progress very

quickly in their water colour endeavours. The same with the mosaics... people pick it up very quickly and can make something beautiful with very little tuition really - just a pointer or two and a little guidance in the right direction. My classes here started originally aimed at complete beginners, "having a go" with emphasis on enjoyment rather than producing a masterpiece. Of course, many people have become very adept over the years and produce original and satisfying pieces of work which will hold their own on any wall anywhere. Saturdays we have a stand at the ecological market between Trapiche and Vinuela at the garden centre... this is a lovely little market with a great atmosphere. I am there every week as my eldest daughter is now able to run La Vaqueria without me! La Vaqueria is a unique experience with something for everyone, suitable for all ages and children are most welcome. We are open 7 days a week and you can find us on google maps. See main advert on page 106

Every Tuesday 9.30am - 1.30pm

Come and enjoy a relaxing morning at Los Jardines del Trapiche, THE nicest market venue on the Costa. EASY PARKING AIR CONDITIONING Outside courtyard and beautiful function room full of fabulous stalls offering something for everyone. Browse at your leisure and enjoy a coffee in the stunning shadey gardens Take the A-272 turning onto the Velez-Malaga road A-356. Turn off at El Cruce restaurant towards Benamargosa. It has been 20 years since the original bestseller was released that spawned not just a raft of chick-lit imitators but also two films, including the popular 2001 romantic comedy hit “Bridget Jones’s Diary.” The central 30-something working gal, still a singleton, is now at the brink of middle age and this update on her always-complicated affairs of the heart is more often than not a bundle of joy to watch and a far cry from being a pail of poopy nappies. As Miss Jones celebrates her 43rd birthday alone in her cozy London abode, she dons PJs, guzzles wine, blows out a single candle on a cupcake and lip-syncs to the same pity-

party ode, “All By Myself”—until she switches musical gears and giddily hops about to House of Pain’s rap ditty “Jump Around.” But no returnee is more essential than the only man in the world worthy of playing barrister Mark Darcy. Who else besides Firth could make being a mirthless uptight conservative so sexy? A millennial co-worker tricks her into going to a boho outdoor music festival, complete with glamping yurts. That is when she drunkenly stumbles into Dempsey’s luxury outdoor digs after previously being rescued by him, Prince Charming-style, and decides to stay the night. A pregnancy test soon follows and we are kept in the dark about the identity of the baby’s father along with Bridget, Mark and Dempsey’s Jack Qwant, who happens to be a bachelor billionaire founder of a popular match-making website. All in all, it is damn good to see Miss Jones back on the screen again. Star Rating: ****/*****

Oddfellows: Handmade Quality Chocolates Oddfellows: Handmade quality chocolates We can all locate chocolate, of different types and forms, in shops and outlets, every day. I searched for a company, supplying chocolate products, which added that little ‘extra’, with chocolate to satisfy all tastes, palates and sensations. Merry Berry Truffles & Chocolates was founded by Emily Flanagan and has grown to the highquality production company it is today. This family-run business, based at Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, produces really superb handmade truffles, chocolates, bars and

chocolate gifts. Supplying Farm Shops, Farmers Markets, Delicatessens, and also selling at Beer Festivals and other events, plus providing stock to Real Ale Pubs, keeps everyone involved very busy. Having an excellent range of superbly flavoured chocolates and fresh cream truffles, all extremely well presented, plus many other chocolate gifts and hampers, puts this company high up on the leaderboard. Renamed, Oddfellows Chocolate Company, their ranges continue to impress. Connoisseur Chocolate Buttons, from worldwide destinations, are always popular, along with the Chocolate Truffles – including AlcoholInfused Truffles (Champagne Truffles work for me!). Flavoured chocolates include Aniseed,

Chilli & Lime, Chilli & Orange, Cinnamon and Cracked Black Pepper, amongst an excellent range, with something for all tastes and palates. Hot Chilli with Lime & Ginger is popular, too. Scorpion Death Chilli Chocolate has a (very) big kick and, believe me, is not for the faint-hearted! Splendidly presented Gift Sets and Hampers, which can be personalised, are available, for that surprise-perhaps for someone special. Constantly seeking to introduce new products, Oddfellows Chocolates are very much at the forefront for chocolate connoisseurs, with cocoa beans sourced from Venezuela, Costa Rica, Peru and Equador, amongst several other countries. Complementing flavours and truly delicious selections, will not disappoint. The website has all details and very interesting information. Online ordering is also available.

Clearly Where Many Of Us Went Wrong!! then so be it. In all things be led by your husband’s wishes; do not pressure him in any way to stimulate intimacy. Should your husband suggest congress then agree humbly all the while being minful that a man’s satisfaction is more important than a woman’s. When he reaches his moment of fulfilment a small moan from yourself is encouraging to him and quite sufficient to indicate any enjoyment you may have had.

This is an actual extract from a sex education school textbook for girls, printed in the early 60’s in the UK and explains why the world was much happier and peaceful then.. ! When retitring to the bedroom, prepare yourself for bed as promptly as possible. Whilst feminine hygiene is of the utmost importance, your tired husband does not want to queue for the bathroom, as he would have to do for his train. But remember to look your best when going to bed. Try to achieve a look that is welcoming without being obvious. If you need to apply facecreamor hair-rollers wait until he is asleep as this can be shocking to a man last thing at night. When it comes to the possibility of intimate relations with your husband it is important to remember your marriage vows and in particular your commitment to obey him.

Should your husband suggest any of the more unusual practices be obedient and uncomplaining but register any reluctance by remaining silent. It is likely that your husband will then fall asleep promptly so adjust your clothing so freshen up and apply your night-time face and hair care products. You can then set the alarm so you can arise shortly before him in the morning. This will enable you to have his morning cup of tea ready when he awakes!

If he feels that he needs to sleep immediately

s e p o c s Horo by Juanita Banana of ARIES: March 21-April 20 Take care when explaining your creative and inner thoughts to others, trying not to appear defensive nor to have expectations that your ideas will be shared. Seek a little cultural stimulation this month perhaps from travel or visiting art galleries TAURUS: April 21-May 21 Taureans are highly creative and expressive individuals. If some find you conservative it’s because they themselves lack understanding of the experimental and revolutionary ideals that drive you. It’s second nature to you to be involved with humanitarian endeavours and causes that help others. Friendship is important to you and part of your essential journey through life GEMINI: May 22-June 21 Pay attention to being truthful in all aspects this month or you will feel compromised and realities, that you prefer not to be public, will be brought into the spotlight. You seek intimate, one-to-one, cooperation but results will differ from your expectations

LIBRA: September 23 - October 22 Put forth your ideas and beliefs but not with such force others feel left out or need to argue. Apply energies to rigorous work agendas and team spirit. Your true power appears when you remember to be a teacher and a listener. Becoming one who understands is the route to leadership SCORPIO: October 23 - November 21 Your desire for material objects this month means you need to be careful with money. Try to discern between need and gratification which causes wastefulness, and don`t feel obliged to make unwise, impossible financial decisions. Your worth is unrelated to your possessions and is about how you serve SAGITTARIUS: November 22 - December 21 A lot can be accomplished in the next few months if you focus on your individual gifts, be amusing and work on your vocational identity. Within relationships, you need to bend a little and avoid demands that cannot be met. More independence would help, avoiding arguments about your personal thoughts and beliefs

CANCER: June 22-July 22 You’re working harder than at any time previously in your life but something is being lost along the way. Beware that someone at work is perhaps not being kind and maybe sidetracking your intent. You will eventually find reward and satisfaction if you carry on bringing service and kindness to those around you

CAPRICORN: December 22 - January 20 You need a time for solitude, seclusion and reflection but it’s also important to communicate feelings to someone you trust, an old friend perhaps rather than a family member. Past experiences emerge and you may wish to re-enact them whilst maintaining awareness and efforts to create new behavioural archetypes

LEO: July 23-August 23 During October, Leos will be filled with a sense of self-awareness. Experiment and excel without restraint using the full force of your expressiveness, assertiveness and competitiveness and don’t worry about what others may interpret as lack of discipline

AQUARIUS: January 21 - February 19 Don’t sit back and allow nothing to change, it will albeit slowly. This is your time to think about and set future goals, creating a balance between personal needs and those you love. Lead on Aquarius but do not undermine your vital spirit of love

VIRGO: August 24-September 22 Think and act with reserve and genuine regard for others, not just those you want to impress. Become conscious of your thoughts and examine your behaviour based on what you know to be right. Listen to others and conflicts and difficulties, especially within the home and family, can be resolved

PISCES: February 20 - March 20 Align yourself with love to help identify new protocols, policies, and requirements needed to create a successful and satisfying project with intelligent structures. Come out of isolation to make connections with people and projects

Lux mundi, Torre del Mar invite you and your friends to join them on a coach excursion to see the famous musical with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Joseph Stein, set in the Pale of Settlement of Imperial Russia in 1905. It is based on Tevye and his Daughters (or Tevye the Dairyman) and other tales by Sholem Aleichem. The story centres on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his Jewish religious and cultural traditions as outside influences encroach upon the family's lives. He must cope both with the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters, who wish to marry for love – each one's choice of a husband moves further away from the customs of his faith – and with the edict of the Tsar that evicts the Jews from their village. The coach will arrive in Fuengirola at approximately 18.00 and there will be free timed for you to have a meal. The show starts at 20.00. Ticket price 28€ available at the Centre, this includes coach, tickets and insurance. All proceeds to fund raising. ) : a h a Jokes h Thanks to MP for the following jokes My transvestite friend never looks good in a mini skirt... I have to admire his balls for trying though. ------------------------------------------------------------So a man was assaulted and mugged at Legoland.. Police are putting the pieces together so they can build a case. ------------------------------------------------------------Team GB are auctioning off a pair of trousers worn by one of their atheletes from the Olympics. A spokesman said "They were Mo's Farrah's". ------------------------------------------------------------Paddy climbs the diving board with a large fish under his arm. The Olympic official says to him, "And what are you gonna do with that fish Paddy?" Paddy replied, "Triple somersault with pike." ------------------------------------------------------------I saw Paddy the ventriloquist sat on his own in the pub earlier. "Where's Seamus?" I asked, "You never go anywhere without that doll." "Seamus has been kidnapped," Paddy blurted, fighting back tears. "I had a call earlier demanding a ransom, but I refused to pay it." "Good for you," I said. "Don't give in to the bastards." "It's not that," said Paddy. "I'll gladly pay to get Seamus back." "What is it then? Are they asking too much?" "No," Paddy shook his head, "It wasn't the real kidnappers. I demanded to speak to him first, and as soon as he started talking I knew there was something wrong. It didn't sound anything like the little fella." ------------------------------------------------------------I was about to step onto the lift in the Hilton hotel to take me to the ground floor, when I noticed Yazz was in it... I said to myself........b*****s I’ll take the stairs -------------------------------------------------------------

I was in Turkey on holiday and came across one of those Turkish bath houses. They shaved with a solid steel stone ground razor from below the neckline, inside the ears, snipped out nose hairs, waxed off chest hairs and plucked all the hairs out of the ass crack, all finished off with a moustache trim and alcohol rub. Honestly, the wife's never looked so frickin' good. ------------------------------------------------------------Scientists have observed that when one pizza delivery guy falls over, several others also fall over. This is known as the domino's effect!! ------------------------------------------------------------The biggest lie ever? "I have read and agree to the terms of use" ------------------------------------------------------------To all the people who done s*** n their GCSE's. No gherkin's in my burger please! ------------------------------------------------------------I'm sure that F1 drivers don't trust the mechanics with their car. Whenever they finish a race, they take the steering wheel with them. ------------------------------------------------------------"Doc, my kleptomania problem with small computer devices is getting way out of hand. What can I do?" "Keep taking the tablets." ------------------------------------------------------------"Mum, the TV remote needs new batteries. Where can I find some?" "Check the top drawer in my bedroom, there should be some in there." Worst moment of my life. ------------------------------------------------------------A mate of mine was scuba diving when he was attacked by a snake-like creature which kept biting at his facemask, and he asked me what it might be. I told him "When an eel hits your eye like a big pizza pie .... that's a Moray!"

Jokes h a ha :) Had a right result. I bought a book of raffle tickets from my local newsagents for £1.99. They're £1.00 a strip in my local pub. ------------------------------------------------------------A Glaswegian lad takes his girlfriend home for the first time. He says, "This is Amanda." His dad jumps up. "It's a f------ what?" ------------------------------------------------------------What's the name of the Russian guy who invented a cure for the common cold? Benylin Forchestikov. ------------------------------------------------------------My parents have admitted to me that the night I was conceived they were both really drunk on weak Aussie beer. It's never nice finding out you are a Fosters child! ------------------------------------------------------------I was having a row with my girlfriend last night and she accused me of being childish. What does she know? She's just a stinky poo face. ------------------------------------------------------------I told my boss I needed a pay rise this morning, I said that 3 other companies were after me... He said "which ones?" I said "the electric, the gas, and the water.. .." ------------------------------------------------------------I said to my wife, "lets go out to eat tonight." She came back with the classic, "I have nothing to wear" reply. So I said to her, "just wear what you had on the last time we went out, you looked beautiful." So there we were in the local steak house, me in jeans and a T shirt, and her in her bleeding wedding dress! ------------------------------------------------------------I went into the pub and asked if they did cash back. "Yes we do" replied the barmaid. "Good," I said. "Can I have the £40 I spent last night? The wife's going f****** mental." ------------------------------------------------------------If the whole world smoked a joint at the same time, there would be world peace for at least two hours. Followed by a global food shortage.

Don't you just hate people that feel compelled to tell everyone on facebook what they had for breakfast? Nearly put me off my poached eggs on toast with peeled plum tomatoes in their own juice with coffee!! ------------------------------------------------------------"Back in the day, Instagram just meant a really efficient drug dealer." ------------------------------------------------------------The inventor of the anagram has died..... May he erect a penis ------------------------------------------------------------I met a Dutch girl with inflatable shoes last week, phoned her up to arrange a date but unfortunately she’d popped her clogs.” ------------------------------------------------------------"What are you in for?" "Ran a red light." "They sent you to prison for that?" "Well, I also ran the brothel behind it." ------------------------------------------------------------I've just subscribed to a new website: I'm finding hard to log out! ------------------------------------------------------------Strange beer to the left of me, cheap biscuits to the right. Here I am, stuck in the Lidl with you! ------------------------------------------------------------A female tattoo artist and plastic surgeon who required each others services managed to come to an arrangement... Tit for Tat. ------------------------------------------------------------I've just had one of those long talks with the g friend. "Sometimes I don't think you love me. You never pay me any attention, the only time you want to talk to me is when you want a lift to and from the pub. It's like I'm not even here. Why can't you ever just stop going out with your friends and just stay in with me? One hug a day would mean so much to me. You never take me out anymore either. I have to stay home and look after the kids while you're out drinking. What do you have to say for yourself?" "Man the f*** up!" replied the cheeky bitch.
