Recently I returned from a life changing adventure, which involved camping in the Sawtooth mountain region of Idaho, USA. I’d never been camping before so the experience was entirely new for me and I had no idea what to expect, apart from the likelihood of feeling dirty for ten days! And I was right. Even with the occasional solar shower, I still felt icky and yucky. But I found that unless I focused on the grime I seemed to forget all about it. This theme of focus continued to rear its head throughout the trip. Before I boarded the Virgin Atlantic flight to Chicago, I remember thinking, I’d love an amazing seat on the plane with extra legroom. Imagine my delight when a beaming air stewardess approached. ”We’ve made an error and double booked your seat. Would you like to be upgraded to a Premium seat?” Now some of you would put that down to ‘coincidence’ but that word no longer exists in my vocabulary. There are no coincidences. Everything that happens is a result of your thinking, and the rapidity of the manifestation is directly related to the energy behind it. As I slumped into my Premium seat and sipped a glass of complimentary bubbly with my legs stretched out in front of me, I smiled and thanked the Universe for delivering my request. Throughout the trip more incidents of the power of focus materialised. In fact I lost count of how many of my intentions transformed into reality. At one point I even considered changing my name to Harriet Potter because of all the magic which was unfolding in front of my eyes.

apprehensively towards the peak. “You mean we’re climbing right to the top?” I asked our facilitator, gulping. “Yep,” he replied. “But I’ve never done rock climbing before…” My plea for reassurance was ignored and before long I found myself hooked onto a rope, scrambling up the first of the six slabs. Somewhere around the third slab, as my foot slipped, my legs throbbed and the palms of my hand bled, I didn’t feel like I could continue. I felt out of control; trapped halfway up a mountain with no apparent escape except to continue up. I began to cry, both internally and externally. But as I wiped my eyes, I suddenly remembered that little word – focus! In that moment – like every moment in life – I had a choice. I could either focus on my injuries, the fear, the not being in control, or I could enjoy the experience and focus on reaching the top. An hour or so later I absorbed the most amazing views and congratulated myself for achieving what had initially seemed impossible. So how can you apply this lesson of focus to your own life? It’s simple. Set your intention, focus on it daily, and above all take the necessary steps to reach your desired goal. You can achieve whatever you set your mind to, even if once upon a time it seemed impossible. Or metaphorically speaking, you can climb any mountain. I believe in you…the question is, do you?

Major boob by paintball company - A woman is recovering after her breast implant burst when she was shot in the chest during a game of paintball. The 26-year-old's soft gel implant ruptured under her skin when the ball hit her breast at 190mph. It's believed to be the first time such an injury has happened in Britain. The woman was playing paintball at Whyteleafe, South London, when the incident happened. At first she thought it was just a painful bruise, but when she went to see a doctor a few days later, he revealed the force of the impact had torn the implant. Organiser UK Paintball, which operates more than 50 facilities nationwide, now insists that women with breast implants wear extra chest protection, and the company's standard indemnity form now points out that paintballs can damage breast implants. A UK Paintball spokesman said: "Part of the fun of paintball is that it hurts a bit when you get shot, but in all the years we've been going we've never seen an incident like this. However, it's worth remembering that having bigger breasts will make you an easier target for your enemies." Hive of activity - Passengers panicked when two hives of bees smuggled onto a plane for a flight across Russia escaped in mid-air and began swarming around the cabin. The bees sneaked on board in cardboard boxes - became agitated during the 10-hour Yakutia Airline flight from Blagoveshchensk, near the Chinese border, to Moscow. The trafficker later claimed that an airport official at Blagoveshchensk had asked him to carry the cardboard boxes containing the bees to Moscow, where he would be met at the airport. Air hostesses eventually managed to seal the bees inside the wardrobe in the flight's business section by sealing it with sticky tape, and fumigation was carried out at Moscow. However, when the plane arrived at its next destination, Barcelona, a new crew discovered that the fumigation had not been completely successful. Five bees were still alive and on the plane.

Halloween Facts Do you celebrate October 31st? Here are some fearfully fascinating Halloween facts to impress fellow spirits. Halloween was brought to North America by immigrants from Europe who would celebrate the harvest around a bonfire, share ghost stories, sing, dance and tell fortunes. Orange and black are Halloween colours because orange is associated with the Fall harvest and black is associated with darkness and death. Jack-o-lanterns originated in Ireland where people placed candles in hollowed-out turnips to keep away spirits and ghosts on the Samhain holiday. Pumpkins originated in Central America. When Europeans arrived in the New World, they found pumpkins plentiful and used in cooking by Native Americans. They took seeds back to Europe where they quickly became popular. Growing big pumpkins is a big time hobby. Top prize money for the biggest giant pumpkin is

as much as $25,000 dollars at fall festivals. Halloween is the 2nd most commercially successful holiday in America, with Christmas being the first. Americans spend as much as over $2.5 billion during Halloween on candies, costumes, decorations and parties. Halloween candy sales average about 2 billion dollars annually in the United States. Chocolate candy bars top the list as the most popular candy for trick-or-treaters with Snickers. It is believed that the Irish began the tradition of Trick or Treating. In preparation for All Hallow's Eve, Irish townsfolk would visit neighbours and ask for contributions of food for a feast in the town. Black cats were once believed to be witch's familiars who protected their powers. Samhainophobia is an intense fear of Halloween.

De Cotta Tax News from De Cotta Law The Spanish Council of Ministers has reduced the IVA (VAT) from 8% to 4% levied on the purchase of new housing in a bid to reinvigorate the market and reduce the stock of unsold, empty properties in Spain. The new measure comes into effect immediately and will remain in force until the end of 2011. The measure will mean that a Spanish property with a sale price of €200,000, the buyer will now have to pay €8,000 instead of €16,000 in tax. With four months of 2011 remaining it is hoped this measure will be the incentive that potential buyers need to take advantage of highly competitive house prices in Spain. De Cotta Law is able to offer legal services for all areas of Property Law, including sales, purchases, rentals and inheritance. Property Income Tax for Non-Residents – deadline approaching PLEASE NOTE - A new tax law will allow non residents to offset some of their expenses

when they are renting out their Spanish property. Contact Antonio Diaz on for more details. De Cotta Law would also like to inform you that if you are non-resident in Spain and you are owner of one property then you are obliged to declare the ownership of your property in the tax area where the property is situated. The amount due to be paid must be lodged with the tax authorities before the 31st December of the year subsequent to declaration. The income tax is a personal tax. If a property belongs to two people, each one has to present a tax declaration separately. In accordance to Spanish law on taxes for nonresidents, all non-residents that have a property in Spain have to pay the Income Tax as follows: a) Income from Lettings a 24% on the gross rent received with no deductions allowable. b) Deemed income on property utilised privately by the individuals is taxable also at 24% and assessed at 2% or 1,1% of the rateable value (Valor Catastral that is stated on the IBI receipt) depending on the municipality. Income tax does not cover the full tax year but just the period of which you have been an owner. There is no method to set up an automatic payment of Income tax, as it cannot be paid by standing order or direct debit as the taxpayer has the obligation to personally pay the tax by completing the necessary forms. Once completed, they have to be presented to the bank for payment. De Cotta Law is qualified to be your fiscal representative in Spain notifying you annually of the requirement to pay taxes and on receipt of the necessary funds from you, the taxes will be paid and full receipts and fee notes issued. In addition to above tax, other annual taxes that should be taken into account include Property tax (IBI – Council Rates) which is payable to the local authority. As in other countries, this rate is set locally, and so varies from area to area. Police Officers Question: How do you tell the difference between a UK Police Officer, An Australian Police Officer and an American Police Officer? Answer: Pose the following question: "You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, raises the knife, and charges. You are carrying a firearm and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?" UK Police Officer’s Answer: Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! -Does the man look poor or oppressed? -Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack? -Could we run away? -What does my wife think? -What about the kids? -Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand? -What does the law say about this situation?

-Does the firearm have appropriate safety built into it? -Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children? -Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me? -Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me? -If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? -Should I call 9-9-9? -Why is this street so deserted? We need to raise taxes, have a paint and weed day and make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behaviour. -If I raise my gun and he turns and runs away, do I get blamed when he falls over running away, knocks his head and kills himself? -If I shoot him, and lose the court case does he have the opportunity to sue me, cost me my job, my credibility and I will lose my family home? Australian Officer’s Answer: BANG! American Officer’s Answer: BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

Geography of Women and Men Just a comparison....

Between 18 and 22, a woman is like Africa half discovered, half wild, fertile and naturally beautiful!

After 70, she becomes Tibet - wildly beautiful, with a mysterious past and the wisdom of the ages.... an adventurous spirit and a thirst for spiritual knowledge.

Between 23 and 30, a woman is like Europe well-developed and open to trade, especially for something of real value. Between 31 and 35, a woman is like Spain very hot, relaxed, and convinced of her own beauty.

THE GEOGRAPHY OF A MAN Between 1 and 80, a man is like Iran - ruled by a couple of nuts. THE END

Between 36 and 40, a woman is like Greece & gently aging, but still a warm and desirable place to visit. Between 41 and 50, a woman is like Great Britain, with a glorious and all-conquering past. Between 51 and 60, a woman is like Israel has been through war, doesn't make the same mistakes twice, and takes care of business. Between 61 and 70, a woman is like Canada cool, self-preserving, but open to meeting new

Great Britons

If you had purchased £1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines one year ago, you would have £49.00 today.

Beer contains female hormones! Yes, that's right, FEMALE hormones!

If you had purchased £1,000 of shares in AIG one year ago, you would have £33.00 today. If you had purchased £1,000 of shares in Lehman Brothers one year ago, you would have £0.00 today. But, if you had purchased£1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the aluminum cans for recycling refund, you would have received a £214.00. Based on the above, the best current investment plan is to drink heavily & recycle. A recent study found that the average Briton walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found that Britons drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year. That means that, on average, Britons get about 41 miles to the gallon! Makes you proud to be British, doesn't it?

Last month, Montreal University and scientists released the results of a recent analysis that revealed the presence of female hormones in beer. Men should take a concerned look at their beer consumption. The theory is that beer contains female hormones (hops contain Phytoestrogens) and that by drinking enough beer, men turn into women. To test the theory, 100 men each drank 8 schooners of beer within a one (1) hour period. It was then observed that 100% of the test subjects, yes, 100% of all these men:1. Argued over nothing. 2. Refused to apologise when obviously wrong. 3. Gained weight. 4. Talked excessively without making sense. 5. Became overly emotional 6. Couldn't drive. 7. Failed to think rationally, and, 8. Had to sit down while urinating.

Spiders have 48 knees. Scientists have found spiders in amber that dates back about two million years. The largest spider ever was the Megarachne which had a diameter of 50 cm. The fossil was found in Argentina. The bite from a black widow spider is not automatically fatal. In fact, less than one per cent of all people bitten by this spider run the risk of dying, and most of them are saved with the use of anti-venom.

Certain female species of spiders, such as the Australian crab spider, sacrifice their bodies as a food source for their offspring. Most spiders have eight eyes, but some have less. Some male spiders pluck their cobwebs like a guitar to attract female spiders.

Amazing Insects (Continued) Larger spiders, such as the huge bird eating spiders, can actually catch and subdue animals as large as bats, mice, fish, birds and even snakes with their strong webs.

Of the 35,000 species of spiders, only 27 are known to have caused human fatalities. Spiders are not able to chew. Spiders will recycle their silk. They eat up what isn’t useful any more and start again with fresh stuff.

Spiders usually have eight eyes, but still they cannot see that well. Fried spiders taste like nuts. There are about 34,000 species of spiders. Spiders have claws at the ends of their legs.

The jumping spider will pounce on its prey and, just to be safe, it spins a safety line so that if it misses its mark, it can climb back home again.

The Word Queen Throughout my busy days – which usually involve a lot of editing, some reading, and unfortunately only a smudge of socialising – I receive a heap of emails asking how to find a literary agent.

getting a referral. Try joining local writing groups so your work will be seen by other established writers. Or get your stories published in magazines and sign up to online writer’s communities.

Well that’s a good question to ask and as we all tend to follow instructions far better when presented with steps, that’s just what I now give you…

step 4. If you don’t land a referral write a query letter describing your work.

step 1. First, make sure your manuscript is finished and polished. Have it professionally edited if you can afford it. step 2. Spend some time on the internet getting to know the business. You’ll need to read blogs, talk to booksellers, attend writing conferences, speak to authors, etc. Agents may just be impressed with your knowledge. step 3. The best way through the door is by

step 5. Find agents to post your letter to. Try to target agents who represent your genre. Find the agent’s submission guidelines and follow them with precision. step 6. Wait patiently for a request to see your partial or in some cases, full manuscript! Good luck chuck! Love & Light, The Word Queen xx

Psychic Medium Energy Healer

A tall Spanish lady came to my stand at the psychic and healing fair in Malaga. As I tuned into her life, she understood me perfectly, though her English was not perfect. Suddenly, her mother, who was in the spirit world, came through. I had a message, which was happy birthday, and a huge apology for not being giving and supportive enough. The lady shed tears of happiness and began to let go of her past issues with her mother. That night, I slept like a baby and dreamed I was given a bunch of flowers. These were white with a single rose in the middle, and I immediately knew the reading I had given this lady was not enough. Her mother was asking me to do something else. As I meditated as usual the next morning, I had a flash of white flowers with a single rose; it was like someone pushing a photo in front of my face. 30 minutes later, I decided to give up the meditation because this picture just would not go, so I walked my dogs and went for a coffee before leaving for the second day of the show. There are two flower men who come to Mijas Pueblo every Saturday, and on this day, there was a load of white flowers and right next to them, a bunch of roses. Without thinking, I asked for one white bunch and a single rose in the middle. Like a flash, my heart stopped racing and a peaceful air of happiness came over me. I went to the fair in Malaga with a bunch of flowers for a stranger I knew nothing about, apart from her persistent mother in spirit. As I waited for this lady at her stand, I saw her coming towards me. I was nervous, but as she approached me, she looked at the flowers in my hand and burst into tears. As I started to explain why I had done this, she stopped me and tearfully said: “I knew this was going to happen.” Not having to explain myself was so profound and magical, and makes me understand that at certain times in our lives, we need to know our family on the other side does listen and care. My job was done. When I got home and told my wife what had happened, she just replied that I must have felt I needed to do this. I know I am the luckiest man alive to have such an understanding and caring soul mate. Part 5 is dedicated to Suzie Bajerski (one in a galaxy of stars.) Till next time, may you feel the love of your family and friends in spirit ….for they are closer than you think.

Benamocarra and there is now a more modern water feature with a statue and the road has been blocked on one side to provide a pedestrian area. Benamocarra is situated 33 kilometres from Málaga and just 9 kilometres from the coast, the closest beach being the naturist beach at Almayate. The town is of Arabic origin and its name derived from Banu Mukarram which means The Tribe of Mukarram who were quite possibly Berbers. Benamocarra was conquered by Ferdinand the Catholic after the capture of VélezMálaga in 1487 and the following years proved to be an uneasy time for both Christians and Muslems. After the expulsion of the Moriscos (the Muslim converts to Christianity) in the latter part of the 16th century, Christians returned to the town from Antequera, Estepa, Puente Genil and other locations. The lovely Gothic style church of Santa Ana which was built in the 16th century has a Mudejar tower and is quite majestic inside with its high wooden beamed ceiling and the streets surrounding it are typical of the area, narrow, steep, white washed and full of plant pots brimming with colourful flowers and plants. All the usual facilities are provided with many shops hidden away in houses, banks, hairdressers, bars, restaurants and a health centre. The village square has been changed recently and the once beautiful fountain which was in the middle of the roundabout has been dismantled

There are many foreigners living in and around this lively village and as I stopped to take a photo in a typical Spanish square an english voice said, “I´ll just get out of your way”! The locals are extremely friendly and welcome us guirri´s into their towns and their homes. Benamocarra boasts a Music and Culture Festival with free food and drink to tempt locals and strangers alike and the streets are full of performers playing different types of music from traditional, with groups dressed in medieval costume to popular and jazz and even classical being played in the church. It’s certainly a treat for all the senses and a festival that should not be missed. There is another famous festival where the younger members of the community dress up as witches and goblins and in the springtime the annual Romeria where all the townsfolk suddenly appear to have acquired a horse and they all show off their riding skills, the men dressed in typical Spanish equestrian outfits with tight black pants and fresh white shirts and waistcoats topped off by a large black hat, quite often sitting behind them is the girl of their choice sporting a poker dotted frilly Spanish dress. You don´t often see a Spanish female riding astride in trousers, this is reserved for the foreign jinete´s who not only ride alongside the men but even enter the equestrian competitions sometimes even winning a prize! Olé!

National sport - Football Famous for - The country is endowed with virgin rainforests and has some of the highest densities of lowland gorillas and forest elephants in Africa. Interesting Facts - Within the Central African Republic, HIV/AIDS is still spreading, and the country is seriously afflicted by destabilising financial and social problems. The country has the potential to be a major tourist destination, but generally, that's defeated by its poor infrastructure. However, for those who venture in (mostly Europeans), the pristine parks and wildlife are second to none, and hunting safaris (sadly) are still a big business. National parks are home to forest elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos and countless other animals. One of the lowland gorilla's last habitats is found in the rainforests of the south.

Random Jokes :) One afternoon a lawyer riding in his limousine saw two men at the road-side eating grass. Disturbed, he ordered his driver to stop and he got out to investigate. He asked one man, "Why are you eating grass?" "We don't have any money for food," the poor man replied. "We have to eat grass." "Well, then, you can come with me to my house and I'll feed you," the lawyer said. "But sir, I have a wife and two children with me. They are over there, under that tree." "Bring them along," the lawyer replied. Turning to the other poor man he said, "You come with us, too." The second man, in a pitiful voice, "But sir, I also have a wife with me - and six children!" "Bring them all" the lawyer answered. They all entered the car, which was no easy task, even for a car as large as he limousine. Once underway, one of the poor fellows said to the lawyer, "Sir, you are too kind. Thank you for taking all of us with you." The lawyer replied, "Glad to do it. You'll really

love my place. The grass is almost a foot high." ------------------------------------------------------------The room was full of pregnant women with their partners. The class was in full swing. The instructor was teaching the women how to breathe properly and was telling the men how to give the necessary assurance to their partners at this stage of the pregnancy. She said "Ladies, remember that exercise is good for you. Walking is especially beneficial. It strengthens the pelvic muscles and will make delivery that much easier. Just take several stops and stay on a soft surface like grass or a path.” She looked at the men in the room, "and Gentlemen, remember — You're in this together — It wouldn't hurt you to go walking with her.” The room suddenly got very quiet as the men absorbed this information. Then a man at the back of the room slowly raised his hand. "Yes?”, answered the Instructor. "I was just wondering if it would be all right if she carries a golf bag while we walk??”

ra a p Pa Profile

Name: Eric Daniel Pierre Cantona Birthday: 24th May 1966 age: 45 sign: Gemini Birthplace: Marseille Marital status: Married Children: Raphael (born 1988) and Josephine (born 1995) Occupation: Professional footballer 1983 – 1997 Claim to fame: The infamous kung foo kick at a spectator This gifted French footballer-turned-actor is known as much for his outbursts of temper as his abilities on the field. Disciplinary problems have haunted him throughout his career, at times overshadowing his tremendous flair and skill as a player and manager. He has amassed a whole new fanbase in recent years after retiring from football and turning to film and the-

atre acting. He is also a talented painter and amateur philosopher. Cantona played for Auxerre, Martigues, Marseille, Bordeaux, Montpellier, Nîmes and Leeds United before ending his professional footballing career at Manchester United in 1997. He wore the number 7 shirt at United, which was previously worn by George Best and Bryan Robson, and subsequently by David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo. He was nicknamed "King Eric" by Manchester United fans and voted as the club’s greatest ever player by Inside United magazine. In his five years with United (1992–1997) he made 144 appearances and scored 64 goals. His family home was a cave in one of the hills in the Caillols area of Marseille, which was rumoured to have been used as a look-out post for the German army towards the end of the Second World War. In 1988, while playing for Marseille, he received a one year ban from the French team for calling the national coach, Henri Michel, "one of the world's most incompetent trainers." In 1991, after having threatened to quit football completely, he was advised by his psychoanalyst to seek employment in England after yet more disciplinary issues in France. He starred in a 2009 film directed by Ken Loach called Looking For Eric. He scored 161 goals in his professional career, including 20 for the French national team. His first blockbuster film ‘Elizabeth’ saw him working with massive United fans, Christopher Eccleston and Angus Deayton. The film, which also starred Sir Richard Attenborough, Joseph Fiennes, Cate Blanchett, Sir John Gielgud and Kathy Burke, won one Oscar. Cantona is currently involved with beach football and manages the French national team.

Now that the heat of the summer isn’t sO intense, kami and i decided to start planting some veggies in our brand new allotment, which is based in Mezquitilla. this time we thought we’d do it the professional way, so we even invested in some plastic covering as a weed prevention measure.

Are you ‘normal?’ Check out these interesting statistics below before you decide!

We headed to the garden centre and bought whatever they had in stock – lettuces, onions, tomatoes, various herbs, aubergines, and peppers. José (who rents out the allotments) and his lovely little boy, Samuel, even helped us plant them! So far all seems to be going well, apart from the fact that our lettuces have died….apparently we were sold some dodgy ones! It's actually quite fun pulling out the weeds as they pop up through the plastic, and usually with just one tug they come up, roots and all. I’m sure there’ll be more to tell about our allotment next month, but for now it’s back to the watering…!

*21% of us don't make our bed daily. 5% of us never do. *Men do 29% of laundry each week. Only 7% of women trust their husbands to do it correctly. *40% of women have hurled footwear at a man. *27% admit to cheating on a test or quiz. *29% admit they've intentionally stolen something from a store. *50% admit they regularly sneak food into movie theatres to avoid the high prices of snack foods. *10% believe in the 10 Commandments. *82% believe in an afterlife. *28.1% pee in the pool. Think about that next time you go swimming! *13% (mostly men) have spent a night in jail. *29% are virgins when they marry. *58.4% have called into work sick when we weren't. *10% of us switch tags in the store to pay less for an item. Well that’s as clear as mud!!

Please mention The Sentinella when responding to adverts music plays a more important role than words.

Film iew e Of Life e Rev the tr The Tree of Life is a metaphysical inquiry into mankind’s place in the grand scheme of things that releases waves of insights amid its narrative. This fifth feature in Terrence Malick’s eccentric career is a creation that ponders the imponderables, asks the questions that religious and thoughtful people have posed for millennia, and provokes philosophical musings along with personal introspection. Some people who watch this semi-baffling film might fail to grasp the connection between the depiction of the beginnings of life on Earth and the travails of a 1950s Texas family. But critical passions, along with Brad Pitt in one of his finest performances, will stir specialised audiences to attention. This film is shaped in an unconventional way, not as a narrative with normal character arcs and dramatic tension but more like a symphony with several movements, each expressive of its own natural phenomena and moods. Arguably,

Juxtaposed with the rare and random images are the lamentations of a mother (Jessica Chastain) for a son who has just died in unexplained circumstances. Occupying a pleasant but not lavish home on a wide dirt street in a town that matches one’s idealized vision of a perfect 1950s community, the family is dominated by a military veteran father (Pitt) who lays down the law to his three boys. He’s compulsively physical with them, playfully, affectionately and violently, and yet he rigidly holds something back. Least effective is the material centred on the oldest O’Brien kid, Jack, portrayed as a middle-aged man by Sean Penn. A successful architect, Jack looks troubled and preoccupied as he moves through a world defined by giant Houston office towers. While the connection to Jack’s childhood years is clear, the dramatic contributions of these largely wordless scenes are weak, even at the end, when a sense of reconciliation and closure is sought by the sight of disparate souls gathering on a beach. Star Rating – ***/***** be prepared to think deep!

Recipe Of The Month Blackened Barbecue Pork Fillets

to 20 minutes or until nicely charred. Every time you turn the meat, brush it generously with the

Ingredients for the marinade •½ teaspoon cumin seeds •1 teaspoon fennel seeds •2 cloves •1 heaped tablespoon sweet smoked paprika •zest and juice of 1 orange •a small bunch of fresh thyme, leaves picked and very finely chopped •4 garlic cloves, peeled and very finely chopped •150ml Heinz organic tomato ketchup •6 tablespoons balsamic vinegar •4 x 400g pork fillets, preferably free-range or organic •sea salt and freshly ground black pepper optional •a handful of fresh coriander, leaves picked and chopped Optional •juice of 1 lemon Method Skewers are useful for this recipe. They hold the four fillets together, making it easier to turn over when on the barbecue or under the grill. It also makes serving slightly easier because when you come to slice the fillets up, you can do it between the skewers, giving you pork "lollipops" of blackened meat, which is quite fun. But if you don't have them, you can just use your tongs. To make your marinade, crush up the cumin, fennel seeds and cloves in a pestle and mortar and mix with the paprika, orange zest and juice, thyme, garlic, ketchup and balsamic vinegar. Season the pork fillets with salt and pepper, then toss them in most of the marinade until completely coated. Feel free to marinate for half a day, but at least an hour. If you have metal or wooden skewers, lay the fillets side by side and skewer them together about 2.5cm apart. When you're ready to cook, simply put the meat on to a barbecue or under a hot grill for 15

leftover marinade so you build up a sticky, blackened glaze. When they're done, put the fillets on a big platter and allow to rest for 5 minutes. Slice the meat between the skewers, or just slice each fillet in half, and sprinkle over some chopped coriander or squeeze over some lemon juice if you fancy.

LED Lighting - BIOBEST L.E.D

What’s new in TV technology these days?

*LED (Light Emitting Diode). There are two types of LED lighting: mains voltage and low voltage, both of which operate on DC voltage via converters or direct to 220 V.

Want to watch the excitement and tension of all the Barclay’s Premiership football games live and in HD with 5.1 Dolby sound, but they’re not available on Sky? With the advent of new satellite technology in Spain, we are now able to provide this subscription service to our customers. You can watch all 380 games each season for less than €1 per game. This package also has lots of other sport available including cricket, tennis and Formula 1, with rugby and American wrestling coming soon. Would you like a taster to see what it’s like? Then why not come along to one of our weekly demonstrations which are held every Saturday, starting at 2pm, and see for yourself how it works. (See main advert on page 42 for full information on the demonstrations.) If you like Spanish league lootball, we also have available “Gol TV,” a subscription terrestrial service for Spanish digital TV. For more information contact Sat.Co Tel 657 484 853

*Mains voltage LED lamps are simple and can be used to replace a conventional light source, when they both have the same lamp holder requirements. (The most popular change is to use a GU10 LED in a GU10 fitting.) *LED lighting works by passing a current through a diode element. Where a conventional lamp heats up a filament which then glows, an LED gives off light when current flows through it, with almost no heat generated. An LED runs cool and is great where heat is an issue. *LED lighting is quoted as “fit and forget” because of the long lifespan of each lamp. Some lamps are quoted as potentially lasting as long as 100,000 hours and even more, due to their low running temperature and mechanical robustness of construction. *LED lighting technology is moving fast with LED lamp variety ever increasing. LED lamps are becoming available in much brighter outputs and smaller sizes, which allow them to replace the conventional light bulb completely. The major leap here has been the capacity to extract more light from the same amount of power. *LED lighting is far more efficient than both conventional and modern “low-energy” lamps. The technology also makes it easy to contol light sequences and colour changes. *When choosing an LED, it is important to look at the overall light output of each lamp, to decide whether the light source will give you the required amount of illumination. *Use LED lighting both indoors and outdoors. *Replace regular or conventional lights of 50 watts with one LED lamp only using 2.7 watts! *By replacing your conventional lights with LED from LED BIOGEST, you could cut your energy costs by 15 to 20 times. *LED BIOGEST, engineering, light replacement, 3 years total warranty. We will evaluate a quote regarding your specific requirements. LED BIOGEST, 952965892.- 660325222 Facebook: LED BIOGEST NUSTATADE Website

Book Launches “Not Joined UP Surviving Retirement On The Costa Del Sol”

The Spain that Hemingway never saw Ever meet a blind beggar who rides a motor-bike, a woman cured of disease by visions of the Virgin, a medic whose injections are to die for, a phantom who terrorised a village? They're all there, along with a host of other colourful characters in David Baird's book, Sunny Side Up - The 21st century hits a Spanish village, just relaunched in a new edition.

Author: Carole Hart has lived in El Morche for ten years. Her first book “Leaving England” was published last year by Black Leaf Publishing. She has now used her observations of ex-pat life to write Not Joined Up. Plot: Not a sequel to Leaving England but a novel set in a fictional seaside town where a mixed bunch of ex-pats struggle with the weather, the language, bureaucracy and the many bewildering aspects of living in Spain. It covers six months of 2010, the rain, the heat, the World Cup, the féria, quiz nights, Spanish lessons and endless discussions over bacon sandwiches and cups of tea. Very funny and at times poignant it is a fresh look at the realities of the Spanish dream, with images you will not easily forget. Availability: It is available online from, and as a KINDLE DOWNLOAD from Paperback copies are available from the author and at book signings. First book signing will be at the Table Top Sale at Los Amigos Bar, Torrox Park on 5th Nov. Consult “Digame” online magazine for further details. Not Joined Up is essential reading for all ex-pats, visitors and anybody thinking about making the big move.

Expat reminiscences about life in Spain are two-a-penny, but this book stands out for one special reason. It gets under the skin of a rural Málaga community as it shifts from a medieval life style into the computer age. "Baird's ironic glance back over the past 30 years is recommended reading for anybody who has ever wondered what happened to 'the real Spain'," according to the Sunday Times. Forget about romanticised, superficial views of life in the sun. This book looks at what really goes on behind those white walls and describes it with irony and affection. There’s passion here, but there’s also pathos. There’s hilarity, there’s humour, but there’s also an insightful dissection of local ways, as well as a wicked glance at expatriate eccentricities. It may read like fiction, but it’s all fact. It’s the Spain that Hemingway never saw and never wrote about. David does not name the village hit by the 21st century, though he does admit that he has lived in Frigiliana for more than 30 years. He says he has changed many names, "to protect myself and to protect the guilty". To celebrate the new edition of Sunny Side Up, published by Maroma Press (, David is throwing a wine party on Friday, 21st October. All are welcome at this Book Happening, scheduled to start at 7.30pm at 76 Calle Real, Frigiliana (close to the Ayuntamiento on the main street).

Random Joke Two radical Arab terrorists boarded a flight out of London. One took a window seat and the other sat next to him in the middle seat. Just before take off, a U.S. Marine sat down in the aisle seat. After take off, the Marine kicked his shoes off, wiggled his toes and was settling in when the Arab in the window seat said, "I need to get up and get a coke." "Don't get up," said the Marine, "I'm in the aisle seat, so I'll get it for you." As soon as he left, one of the Arabs picked up the Marine's shoe and spat in it. When the Marine returned, the other Arab said, "That looks good I'd really like one, too." Again, the Marine went to fetch it. While he was gone, the other Arab picked up the Marine's other shoe and spat in it. When the Marine returned, they all sat back and enjoyed the flight. As the plane was landing, the Marine slipped his feet into his shoes and knew immediately what had happened. He leaned over and asked his Arab neighbours, "Why does it have to be this way? How long must this go on? This fighting between our Nations? This hatred? This animosity? This spitting in shoes and pi**ing in cokes?"

BEM idiomas Another summer is very nearly over.... or is it, as I write this at 11.30pm and it is still 24 degrees Celsius outside? The schools are back and this September, my daughter, aged three years and three months, has started school. She was very excited at the thought of going to school with her sister, but little did she know that she would not actually be in the same classroom. She has shown her sadness by crying every day for six days so far. Even though she was born in Spain, she attended an English nursery where they just taught the basics in Spanish, colours, numbers etc... My thoughts behind this were that she would soon catch up with the Spanish language, but I wanted to make sure that she could speak English before mastering a second language. Those of you who read my article every month will know that when I started Spanish lessons three years ago, I gave myself a challenge that I would speak Spanish before my daughter did. After just six days at school, despite the tears every morning, I am amazed at the Spanish that she has been coming out with and I am now thinking that she may beat me after all! Just as well I only said, “I would be speaking Spanish before my daughter,” and not that I

Mind, Body & Spirit An approach to weight loss which actually works How many of you have tried, at some time or another, to lose weight, whether to shed a few extra pounds or to tackle the more serious condition of obesity? Hardly a week goes by without a new fad diet being announced in the pages of a glossy magazine or tabloid newspaper; bookstores have entire sections devoted to the subject. So many “experts” claim to have the answer, whether it’s eating vast quantities of just meat, eating according to your blood-group, calorie counting or fat burning, spectacular results are promised. Yet the surveys and statistics show that the majority of dieters, even if they achieve significant weight loss, soon put the weight back on – and then some. Research has shown that once the body has reached a certain weight, it will automatically attempt to restore this “norm” as soon as dieting stops, and then add a few pounds for good measure. This “fat-banking” behaviour is a result of our modern and opulent lifestyle. Basically, we eat more – and more frequently – than our bodies actually need in order to function efficiently. Just as we bank extra income into a savings account, the body “banks” the extra calories as stored fat tissue against a “rainy day” when food may become scarce again. It is an adaptive biological behaviour, which is why it’s so hard to defeat. Indeed in many cultures, being fat is identified with being successful and powerful, or for women, a sign of great fecunditity. In the 1950s, an English physician, Dr Simeons, began treating obese patients with a hor-

mone normally secreted by women during pregnancy, which causes their bodies to release stored fat to be broken down and used by the developing foetus in building its body. Having the hormone administered under clinical conditions enabled his patients to undergo a radically reduced calorie diet without suffering the extreme hunger and energy loss normally experienced, because their metabolism was being fuelled by the released fat. They showed remarkably rapid weight-loss, averaging a pound a day, without any of the usual side-effects. Moreover, they were able to maintain their new, reduced weight after coming off the diet. This was achieved through a carefully supervised maintenance diet period during which certain foods were re-introduced one at a time whilst the body “re-set” its weight level. Because of the high costs of hormone extraction and administration, and the need for clinical supervision, this revolutionary approach to weight loss was only available privately to the privileged few who could afford it. Recently, however, in a major breakthrough, a homeopathic preparation of the hormone has been developed. This can be bought relatively cheaply and self-administered simply and safely. The results are the same: rapid and permanent weight loss, achieved through a “painless” low calorie diet. And it works. I know – I tried it! Readers Writes !! Puppy Alert !! In May 2011 I acquired one of the eight puppies that were being offered at the Tuesday Market at El Trapiche. We were informed that all the puppies were different but were possibly Yorkie/ Chihuahua mix. The puppies had been born on 10th March 2011. As a responsible dog owner we took our dog for the first set of injections. When we went back for the second lot of injections we were told she needed treatment for Demodex canis. This is an infection passed through the Mothers milk, we were also told that she must not have any puppies as the infection would be passed on to all the litter. I am contacting your magazine to warn other puppy owners that they must have their puppies checked out at the vets. Jackie

Want To Be On T.V?

On Friday 26th August 40 of its members went on a coach trip to Antequera, to experience a ‘Night under the Moorish Stars’.

We’re casting for a new series of Channel 4’s popular ‘Four in a Bed’, celebrating great Bed and Breakfasts and small hotels not only around the UK but also in Spain.

The group visited the Castle, Alcazaba and Citadel and were shown around the complex by a guide dressed in typical Moorish costume. In the castle area a talk was given explaining the life style of the community, especially the favourite pass time of bathing. On entering the Alacazaba, (built by the Moors to defend against the Spanish Christian Kings), members of the group were encouraged to wear the traditional costume the Jellaba. The group were then escorted by torch light to explore the old ruins and were entertained by music and dancing on the way. They climbed the Citadel to take in the spectacular view of Antequera by night. This was followed by a short performance with various members of the local community, enacting the Conquest of the Moors in 1410 by King Ferdinand 1 of Aragon and the handing over of the keys of the city. Finally, they retired to the Plaza of the Alcazaba, where under torch and candle light, listening to traditional music, seated on cushions. They sampled a variety of delicious Arabic food, tea and wine. Sadly the evening ended all too soon, but it was agreed by all that it had been a most enjoyable experience.

Whether it be your five glowing stars or the quirky and unusual approach that you deem is your unique selling point, the programme will look at the huge variety of accommodation providers around these countries. We are looking for enthusiastic and proud owners who feel that their business stands out from the competition and has something special to offer for the price that visitors are charged. This series will not only feature a wide range of B&Bs but also small hotels. They’ll all be run by owners who are deeply committed to their business and can explain in a lively and engaging way why their place, and the area in which it’s located, is so good to visit. Each week, four places will compete against one another to be crowned that week’s best B&B or small hotel… and the judges of the competition will be the owners themselves – as they will each visit one another’s properties. This is a potentially brilliant opportunity for you to showcase your business on national television and highlight why customers should flock to visit you. We hope the programme will continue to encourage viewers to choose independently run places to stay in, rather than the larger chain operations. If you are interested or know anyone who is interested should email us at COME ON aXarQUia... LEt’s PUt Us ON thE MaP !

Random Joke :) A psychiatrist was conducting a group therapy session with four young mothers and their small children. 'You all have obsessions.' he observed. To the first mother, Mary, he said, 'You are obsessed with eating. You've even named your daughter Candy.' He turned to the second mum, Ann: 'Your obsession is with money. Again, it manifests itself in your child's name, Penny..'

He turned to the third mother, Kathy: 'Your obsession is alcohol. This too shows itself in your child's name, Brandy.' ) : a h a h s e k o J Yesterday morning, I saw a radical Muslim, ranting on about Western aggression in the peace loving Islamic paradise of Afghanistan. He was standing on a jetty on the Thames. He got so excited he lost his footing and fell into the river and could not swim. Being a responsible citizen, I immediately notified the emergency services. By noon today, they still hadn't arrived. I'm beginning to think, I've wasted a bloody stamp! ------------------------------------------------------------Two medical students were walking along the street when they saw an old man walking with his legs spread apart. He was stiff-legged and walking slowly. One student said to his friend: "I'm sure that poor old man has Peltry Syndrome. Those people walk just like that." The other student says: "No, I don't think so. The old man surely has Zovitzki Syndrome. He walks slowly and his legs are apart, just as we learned in class." Since they couldn't agree they decided to ask the old man. They approached him and one of the students said to him, "We're medical students and couldn't help but notice the way you walk, but we couldn't agree on the syndrome you might have. Could you tell us what it is?" The old man said, "I'll tell you, but first you tell me what you two fine medical students think." The first student said, "I think it's Peltry Syndrome." The old man said, "You thought - but you are wrong." The other student said, "I think you have Zovitzki Syndrome." The old man said, "You thought - but you are wrong." So they asked him, "Well, old timer, what do you have?" The old man said, "I thought it was WIND - but I was wrong, too!" ------------------------------------------------------------A farmer stopped by the local mechanic's shop to have his truck fixed. They couldn't do it while he waited, so he said he didn't live far and would just walk home. On the way home he stopped at the hardware store and bought a bucket and a gallon of paint. He then stopped

by the feed store and picked up a couple of chickens and a goose. However, struggling outside the store he now had a problem - how to carry his entire purchases home. While he was scratching his head he was approached by a little old lady who told him she was lost. She asked, 'Can you tell me how to get to 1,603 Mockingbird Lane?' The farmer said, 'Well, as a matter of fact, my farm is very close to that house I would walk you there but I can't carry this lot.' The old lady suggested, 'Why don't you put the can of paint in the bucket. Carry the bucket in one hand, put a chicken under each arm and carry the goose in your other hand?' ' Why thank you very much,' he said and proceeded to walk the old girl home. On the way he says 'Let's take my short cut and go down this alley. We'll be there in no time.' The little old lady looked him over cautiously then said, 'I am a lonely widow without a husband to defend me. How do I know that when we get in the alley you won't hold me up against the wall, pull up my skirt, and have your way with me?' The farmer said, 'Holy smokes lady! I'm carrying a bucket, a gallon of paint, two chickens, and a goose. How in the world could I possibly hold you up against the wall and do that?' The old lady replied, 'Set the goose down, cover him with the bucket, put the paint on top of the bucket, and I'll hold the chickens’. ------------------------------------------------------------Joe says to Paddy: "Close your curtains the next time you're shagging your wife. The whole street was watching and laughing at you yesterday." Paddy says: "Well the joke's on them stupid idiots because I wasn't even at home yesterday." ------------------------------------------------------------Paddy says to Mick - I'm ready for a holiday, only this year I'm going to do it a bit different. 3 years ago I went to Spain and Mary got pregnant. 2 years ago I went to Italy and Mary got pregnant. Last year I went to Majorca and Mary got pregnant. Mick asks - So what are you going to do this year?. Paddy replies, - I'll take her with me!

Jokes h a h a :) A professor at the Adelaide University was giving a lecture on Paranormal Studies. To get a feel for his audience, he asks, 'How many people here believe in ghosts?' About 90 students raise their hands. ‘Well, that's a good start. Out of those who believe in ghosts, do any of you think you have seen a ghost?' About 40 students raise their hands. ‘That's really good. I'm really glad you take this seriously. Has anyone here ever talked to a ghost?' About 15 students raise their hand. ‘Has anyone here ever touched a ghost?' Three students raise their hand. ‘That's fantastic. Now let me ask you one question further... Have any of you ever made love to ghosts?' Way in the back, Ahmed bin Talabi raises his hand. The professor takes off his glasses and says 'Son, all the years I've been giving this lecture, no one has ever claimed to have made love to a ghost. You've got to come up here and tell us about your experience.' The Afghani student replied with a nod and a grin, and began to make his way up to the podium. When he reached the front of the room, the professor asks, 'So, Ahmed, tell us what it's like to have sex with ghosts ?' Ahmed replied, "S***, from way back there I thought you said goats." ------------------------------------------------------------The seven dwarfs go to the Vatican and because they are the seven dwarfs, they are immediately ushered in to see the Pope. Grumpy leads the pack. 'Grumpy, my son,' says the Pope, 'What can I do for you?' Grumpy asks, 'Excuse me your excellency, but are there any dwarf nuns in Rome?' The Pope wrinkles his brow at the odd question, thinks for a moment and answers, 'No, Grumpy, there are no dwarf nuns in Rome .' In the background, a few of the dwarfs start giggling. Grumpy turns around and glares, silencing them. Grumpy turns back, 'Your Worship, are there any dwarf nuns in all of Europe? The Pope, puzzled now, again thinks for a moment and then answers, 'No, Grumpy, there are no dwarf nuns in Europe.’

This time, all of the other dwarfs burst into laughter. Once again, Grumpy turns around and silences them with an angry glare. Grumpy turns back and says, 'Mr.. Pope! Are there ANY dwarf nuns anywhere in the world?' The Pope, really confused by the questions says, 'I'm sorry, my son, there are no dwarf nuns anywhere in the world.' The other dwarfs collapse into a heap, rolling and laughing, pounding the floor, tears rolling down their cheeks, as they begin chanting...... 'Grumpy shagged a penguin!' 'Grumpy shagged a penguin!' ------------------------------------------------------------A blonde lady motorist was about two hours from San Diego when she was flagged down by a man whose truck had broken down. The man walked up to the car and asked, "Are you going to San Diego?" "Sure," answered the blonde, "do you need a lift?" "Not for me. I'll be spending the next three hours fixing my truck. My problem is I've got two chimpanzees in the back which have to be taken to the San Diego Zoo. They're a bit stressed already so I don't want to keep them on the road all day. Could you possibly take them to the zoo for me? I'll give you $100 for your trouble." "I'd be happy to," said the blonde.. So the two chimpanzees were ushered into the back seat of the blonde's car and carefully strapped into their seat belts, and off they went. Five hours later, the truck driver was driving through the heart of San Diego when suddenly he was horrified! There was the blonde walking down the street, holding hands with the two chimps, much to the amusement of a big crowd. With a screech of brakes he pulled off the road and ran over to the blond. "What the heck are you doing here?" he demanded, "I gave you $100 to take these chimpanzees to the zoo." "Yes, I know you did," said the blonde, "but we had money left over so now we're going to Sea World." ------------------------------------------------------------Paddy says to Mick, "Christmas is on a Friday this year". Mick says "Let's hope it's not the 13th."
