Even though summer is officially over, the last month here in Spain has been absolutely beautiful weather-wise. I feel very fortunate to have returned here for 2 months at a time of warm temperatures and sunny skies. Soon I’ll be returning to the US where it’ll likely be on the cold side with the first pile of snow likely due to fall before Christmas! My time in Spain has been very busy and eventful. I’ve found the time to do up my apartment in an IKEA-esque style, catch up with friends and family, and I even drove to Porto, Portugal for 5 days where my husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary. Porto was recently awarded the Best European City title in a popular travel magazine and it’s certainly very happening there right now. Famous for its local port, (which my husband sampled a fair amount of during our stay) the city is picturesque and the people are happy, friendly, and they seem to know a thing or two about customer service. It’s a great city to explore and there are numerous old monasteries and convents to stay in, which have been transformed into beautiful hotels. There’s also an old-style tram in Porto that’s definitely worth a ride on if you decide to visit the city for yourself. Not long after returning from Porto I spent a day at Tivoli World with my sister, Kami, plus my nieces, Charli and Leoni. We had a day full of fun going on all of the various rides, including the Mansion of Terror, where we were chased by scary looking men in dark corridors!

Spain will always hold a special place in my heart and I’m hoping to return at least twice a year. I’m looking at returning for 3 months towards the beginning of 2015, however life tends to have a course of its own so it’s not always easy to plan ahead too much! Wishing you all

Strange News Turtle secret A Canadian man has been charged after border agents found more than 50 turtles strapped to his body. Huffington Post reports that Ontario resident Kai Xu was charged with smuggling, illegal trading and exporting. The turtles were found after Xu's car recrossed the US-Canada border from Detroit, and was stopped in Windsor.

ghost busted Police in New Mexico are investigating a suspected case of trespassing at their station - by a possible ghost. Surveillance footage captured a spectral figure moving through the building. The translucent shape appears to walk through a chain-link fence and then back again. Officers say there is no way to get out of the secure area without triggering an alarm. Francisco Galvan, records supervisor at the station, told Sky News: "It's definitely pretty strange. "You can see it's not an insect crawling across the lens. You can see it has legs. "I do believe in ghosts and I believe it could be some entity or spirit." He said that officers have reported unexplained sightings at the station in the middle of the night. "We have people on graveyard shifts here who say they have seen strange things out of the periphery of their vision," he said. Such spooky goings-on might prompt paranormal investigators to wonder if the station was built on some ancient burial ground. But according to Mr Galvan, the site formerly hosted a call centre and contracting business.

De Cotta Law Have you got a will in Spain? – Important changes from 2015. Free disposition of assets has a long tradition in England & Wales and you will have heard stories of wealthy individuals leaving all their assets to friends or even the local dog’s home. In one recent case a Judge had to decide if the owners of a local Chinese restaurant could receive their inheritance from a rich client’s will. In that case it was shown that the restaurant owners had befriended the testator many years ago and the Judge upheld the principle that the man was free to leave his assets to whoever he wished and to exclude family members. In many other countries such as Spain a person has obligatory heirs and in Spain you must leave 2/3 of your estate to your children. Scotland has a concept of prior rights for spouses and children but the English and Welsh legal system does not. Even more important for many Spanish property owners will be the changes coming in from August 2015. The new European legislation could mean you are bound by the rules on obligatory heirs and cannot leave everything to a spouse which is one of the most common wishes for English testators. This will be particularly important for people in second marriages or civil partnerships where there are children from a previous marriage. Once the regulation is in force and IF you fail to make a valid will with a particular clause about the application of your national law your estate may fall to be decided by Spanish rules. There has been some confusion because Notaries often state in your Spanish form will that they make no comment on your national law which is English law. This is different from actually electing or choosing your national law. If you are resident in Spain and have not made a Will then as from August next year, the probability is that Spanish law will apply to your estate if you die. This means that your children, and possibly even your parents would take priority over your spouse in the distribution of your estate. Prevention is better – and considerably cheaper – than cure as contesting wills is a

very costly matter in any jurisdiction. Prior to 1975 there was little protection for those excluded from a will but legislation was brought in to protect immediate family members who were economically dependant on the deceased. From October 1st the Inheritance and Trustees’ Powers Act has extended this protection for dependants to include children who have been treated as a child of the family and some who are later adopted. This article mainly covers the situation for people from England and Wales. Fanged cannibal spiders Creatures with thick black bodies and menacing shiny green fangs can attack victims with painful 'six hour' bite Dozens of cannibalistic fanged spiders have invaded a street in South Wales as the epidemic spreads. The eight-legged creatures are believed to be tube spiders – one of the largest types in the UK – and their bite is like a bee sting.Their thick black bodies range from between 1.5cm to 2.2cm wide and their fangs shine menacingly green. Mike Rance, 41, first spotted one when he was outside his friend's house on Ludlow Close, Newport and neighbours pointed out clusters all down the street. Mike tested out the arachnid's appetite, but found it was a particularly fussy eater. Mike, from Cwmbran, said: "I spotted this one on the wall and shined a light on to it and could see its fangs. It was devouring another smaller spider – they're proper little cannibals. We tried to feed it a woodlouse but it wasn't interested. We then tried a normal sized spider but it didn't want to know. They only seemed to want to eat smaller ones, I guess they must be easier

prey." After capturing one spider, he passed it on to a vet friend with a special interest in spiders as she owns 32 tarantulas herself. She confirmed that they are in fact tube spiders, whose painful bites can last for up to six hours. He said: "There were about seven on the back of my mate's house when we first looked. "One of the neighbours came out and asked if we were looking at the spiders and showed us a cluster of about 30 or 40 in his back garden then showed us one of a similar size in the front yard.” "He then pointed out houses all over the street that said they had them – they're all over the place. They're quite amazing to watch." Both sexes of tube spiders look similar and live on walls, fences, and the bark of trees. Originally from southern Europe, adults can be found from June to November and create a tube-shaped web with trip-lines radiating out. Fortunately, of more than 650 different species of spiders found in the UK, only 12 of these species have enough venom that can cause harm to a human. Experts predict that spiders will continue to invade UK homes as the autumn weather sets in.

interesting Facts - A country of striking features and a strong indigenous culture, Guatemala's natural beauty and powerful identity stand in stark contrast to its bloody past and troubled present. Mountainous, heavily forested and dotted with Mayan ruins, lakes, volcanoes, orchids and exotic birds, Guatemala is one of the most beautiful countries in Central America. In 1996 it emerged from a 36-year-long civil war which pitted leftist, mostly Mayan insurgents against the army, which - backed by the US - waged a vicious campaign to eliminate the guerrillas. More than 200,000 people - most of them civilians - were killed or disappeared. Guatemala, meaning land of trees, is a heavily forested and mountainous nation—and the most populous in Central America. Chocolate originates from Guatemala, first invented during the Mayan period.

Don't Stroke Your Cat Animal charity bosses have given some bad news for cat lovers - a little cuddle may make your little pussy cat miserable It's a sad day for cat lovers as new research reveals an affectionate cuddle or stroke can stress out your moggy. An animal welfare charity found cats prefer space and peace over being stroked by their owners. Despite the fact that 53% of cat owners questioned for the study said they give their pets a little cuddle when it seems unhappy, experts at Cat Protection found that the best way to chill them out is to leave them alone. Cats Protection behaviour manager Nicky Trevorrow said: “Being held or stroked for too long can be very stressful for some cats. “Space and peace is often what they need they’re not small furry humans so what would comfort us won’t necessarily comfort them.” The findings also show that cat owners are at a loss when it comes to working out when their feline is stressed and how to deal with it. More

than half of owners - 55% - didn’t realise that living with another cat or dog can be stressful for their pet, while 50% were unaware that other cats coming into the house could be a cause of stress. More than a third of owners let neighbouring cats in while 51% of the 1,300 cat lovers surveyed failed to identify wetting and soiling in the house is a sign of stress. Have a think what’s best for your pussy cat the next time you think it needs a cuddle!

Linea Directa What to do if you have been burgled statistics in spain Crime rates in Spain remain among the lowest in the EU according to the latest Interior Ministry crime report. However, since the economic crisis began in 2008, there has been a steep increase in domestic burglaries and theft as a result. In 2012 the number of burglaries in homes rose by 25.4%. The message to expat residents is not to panic. There are some simple precautions to take, as you would back in the UK, such as fitting security grills, installing exterior lights and alarms, being careful about what content is posted on social networks, especially anything to do with trips and holidays away from home. It also helps to take out a quality home insurance policy that will cover your home and its contents should any unfortunate incident occur. when you discover you’ve been burgled As soon as you discover you’ve been burgled, whether it’s a break-in or theft at your home, first call the police. Don’t touch anything until they arrive. A police report will be needed to process your claim. Then secure your home to avoid further damage, board up any broken windows, make a list of damaged or missing belongings, detail the damage to your home resulting from the burglary, taking photographs of damaged windows or door. At this point, you can call the claims department of your home insurance company. We advise you to have your policy on hand when you call. Peace-of-mind with Linea Directa We understand that your peace-of-mind is important, especially in your home. Our claims department will take a full statement of the circumstances of the incident. We will check the insurance coverage with you explaining all the procedures. If emergency repairs are required from locksmiths to glaziers, we will help you swiftly handle your claim and get things back to normal as soon as possible. Fortunately, incidents of theft in Spain are relatively small compared to other EU countries, however should you be burgled, your homeowner’s insurance policy will cover the loss or destruction of personal property if it’s stolen from your home. hold-up outside the home In many cases, your home insurance policy

may cover you for any incidents that occur outside your home. Should you be the victim of a hold-up outside your premises your personal belongings are covered. We will ensure replacement documents are quickly and efficiently dealt with, and if required, arrange the locks on your home to be changed. we hope the information provided in this article is of interest. if you would like to contact Linea Directa please call 902 123 161 More information on Linea Directa online at

The Sea Kids write about the sea 1) This is a picture of an octopus. It has eight testicles. (kelly age 6) 2) Oysters' balls are called pearls. (James age 6)

they have to go down on each other. (Becky age 8) 13) On holidays my Mum went water skiing. She fell off when she was going very fast. She says she won't do it again because water fired right up her fat ass. (Julia age 7)

3) If you are surrounded by sea you are an Island. If you don't have sea all round you, you are incontinent. (wayne age 7) 4) Sharks are ugly and mean, and have big teeth, just like Emily Richardson. She's not my friend anymore. (kylie age 6) 5) A dolphin breaths through an asshole on the top of its head. (Billy age 8) 6) My uncle goes out in his boat with pots, and comes back with crabs. (Millie age 6) 7) When ships had sails, they used to use the trade winds to cross the ocean. Sometimes, when the wind didn't blow, the sailors would whistle to make the wind come. My brother said they would have been better off eating beans. (william age 7) 8) I like mermaids. They are beautiful, and I like their shiny tails. And how on earth do mermaids get pregnant? Like, really? (helen age 6) 9) I'm not going to write about the sea. My baby brother is always screaming and being sick, my Dad keeps shouting at my Mum, and my big sister has just got pregnant, so I can't think what to write. (amy age 6) 10) Some fish are dangerous. Jellyfish can sting. Electric eels can give you a shock. They have to live in caves under the sea where I think they have to plug themselves into chargers. (Christopher age 7) 11) When you go swimming in the sea, it is very cold, and it makes my willy small. (kevin age 6) 12) Divers have to be safe when they go under the water. Two divers can't go down alone, so

Wakey Wakey!!! Unicef hope to raise millions for Syria by encouraging people to post pictures and video of themselves moments after they have woken up Just when you thought it was safe to look at Facebook again, a new charity internet craze is set to sweep the web. Sporting that crustyeyed, wild-haired 'just woken up' look, The #WakeUpCall – in aid of Unicef – morphs elements of two of the most successful viral campaigns of recent times – the #nomakeupselfie and the Ice Bucket Challenge. Unicef are encouraging people to post snaps or videos of themselves online within moments of waking up. Like the #nomakeupselfie it's set to offer a rare glimpse at celebrities minus their makeup and give the wider world a sneek peek at the real lives of the rich and famous. Actor and presenter Stephen Fry has already posted his pic to his 7.5million Twitter followers. showing his unshaven, greasy-haired self to the world from his pillow. "I warn you, look away," he wrote on the social network. Tom Hiddleston, the actor from the Thor comic book adaptations and Steven Spielberg’s War Horse, has also jumped on board, squinting into the camera while sporting an extreme case of bedhead. Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman snapped her blurry-eyed #wakeupcall

while still between the sheets. Hiddleston plumped for Emma Watson, the 24year-old Harry Potter beauty, Keeley Hawes, from BBC Two's Line of Duty, and Josie Rourke, the artistic director of London’s Donmar Warehouse Theatre and TV babe Winkleman, 42, nominated chef Angela Hartnett, presenter Clare Balding and fashion designer Bella Freud. Unicef UK ambassador Jemima Khan explained the idea on Twitter and that money donated during the campaign will go to Unicef’s Syria Emergency Fund. Organisers hope to come somwhere close to the success of the Ice Bucket Challenge, which raised £7million for the Motor Neurone Disease Association in Britain alone.

Politically Incorrect But Funny :) Please don’t be offended... I've accidentally swallowed some Scrabble tiles. My next poo could spell disaster. My sister-in-law sat on my glasses and broke them. It was my own fault. I should have taken them off. I spent a couple of hours defrosting the fridge last night -- or "foreplay" as she likes to call it. After both suffering from depression for a while, me and the wife were going to commit suicide yesterday. But strangely enough, once she killed herself, I started to feel a lot better. So I thought, "Screw it, soldier on!"

The other night, my wife asked me how many women I'd slept with. I told her, "Only you. All the others kept me awake all night!" My missus packed my bags, and as I walked out the front door, she screamed, "I wish you a slow and painful death, you b******" "Oh," I replied, "so now you want me to stay!" A Catholic boy in confession says, "Bless me Father, I have sinned, I masturbated while thinking about my sister." "That's a disgrace," said the priest, "especially when you have two gorgeous brothers." A government survey has shown that 91% of illegal immigrants come to this country so that they can see their own doctor.

Bought the missus a hamster skin coat last week. Took her to the fair last night, and it took me 3 hours to get her off the Ferris wheel.

I've just installed strobe lights in the bedroom. It makes the wife look like she's moving during sex.

Quotes On The Internet Can be such a funny thing... 1) My wife asked me "Why would someone want to erase their internet history? Does it make the computer run faster?" Yes it does, honey, yes it does. 2) This site has quotes on friendship, wishing, computers, kids, love, time, hate, the internet, school, the universe and cheese. There: Now I'm in all of them 3) I'm pretty sure my Internet Explorer "error reports" end up the same place my letters to Santa do. 4) Money can't buy happieness, but it can pay for the internet, which is the same thing. 5) "I had to walk to school 40 miles in the snow... barefoot" was good in it's day. But imagine the sheer terror on your kid's face when you drop "When I was born there was no internet". 6) If internet explorer is brave enough to ask to

If Google doesn't open, the internet must be down. If Google does open, then it must have just been a bad link. Thank you Google for your consistent and quick page loads. 9) Yes, Internet Explorer, you go right ahead and display the non-secure items...I too like to live dangerously. 10) If the internet hadn't been invented we'd all be playing solitaire right now. 11) If one would weigh the entire Internet, so all the electrons it consists of, it would weigh as much as a strawberry. There were about 300 bones in your body when you were born, but by the time you reach adulthood you only have 206. The smallest bones in the human body are in your ear! Your mouth uses 75 muscles when you speak!

The width of your armspan stretched out is the length of your whole body. The average human dream lasts only 2 to 3 seconds. The average American over fifty will have spent 5 years waiting in lines. In Spain 10 years, and that’s just waiting in the Post Office!!!  Your thigh bone is stronger than concrete. Your fingernails grow almost four times as fast as your toenails. You blink your eyes over 10,000,000 a year.

When you wake up in the morning you are taller than when you go to sleep, because you have let your spine straighten back out after all the bending, sitting, and moving you have done! It is impossible to sneeze with your eyes open. Don’t try it your eyes will pop out! The average growth of hair is half an inch per month. If hair remains uncut, it can grow up to 5 feet long. Your tongue, eye, and jaw muscles are among the strongest muscles in your body.

Clinica Casa Blanca - Vitamin C There is more to being well than taking vitamin C. It does help prevent colds — among other things — but is not sufficient for overall wellness! If you are well-balanced, you are sick less often. You can help/support your body to stimulate and normalise its most important functions and maintain the bloodstream so that organs can work better, helping to detoxify, purify and drain, as well as regulate metabolism and hormone balance. By stimulating the nervous and lymphatic system, you strengthen the immune systems so that disease is kept in check. How? There are very gentle treatment methods which are not only preventive, but can relieve or even heal longstanding and chronic diseases or discomfort. They are so gentle that even newborns, pregnant women, seriously ill persons or those who have recently undergone surgery can be treated.

How much is that doggie in the window Imagine hearing music constantly and then being plagued by 'Somewhere over the rainbow' A woman who suffers 'musical hallucinations' has had 'How Much is that Doggie in the Window?' stuck in her head - for four years! Susan Root, 65, has severe tinnitus, also known as musical hallucinations, and hears constant music. She suffered years of the 1952 Patti Page novelty tune, but after four years her tune has finally changed. Now she says she's now being plagued instead by Judy Garland's 'Somewhere over the Rainbow' from the 1939 classic film The Wizard of Oz, and is at 'breaking point'. For the last two weeks, she says the music has

been getting worse. It plays in her head all day long and even keeps her awake at night. She said: "It used to just be How Much is that Doggie in the Window but now I am getting all the different tunes. "Now it is mostly Somewhere over the Rainbow. She hears tunes when nothing is being played. Susan, who retired as a cleaner at Honywood Community Science School last year after 27 years, first heard How Much is that Doggie in the Window while working four years ago and has heard phantom music playing ever since. "It's been terrible recently - it's just been constant for this past fortnight. "I wake up hearing Somewhere over the Rainbow. She has had ear problems since she was young, including infections, a perforated ear drum, problems with her balance and has undergone two operations. Susan, who has been married to retired lorry driver Graham since 1974, said: "He shouts at me because I can't hear very well."

Expensive, often ugly retaining walls could be a thing of the past! Do you live in the Campo, on a hill or in the mountains? Do you have or do you think you will have erosion problems? You don’t want an expensive retaining wall that requires permitting? If your answer is yes to any of the above, then please read on!! There is a grass that is used all around the world and once planted it forms a natural defense against erosion or you could say an “underground retaining wall.” The facts Vetiver Grass is unlike any other grass. Vetiver roots grow vertically, reaching up to 4 metres deep. They have a high tensile strength (equivalent to 1.6 mil steel) this makes it an excellent stabilizer for edges and terraces. Vetiver can grow up to 1.5 metres tall. The leaves are long and thin, similar to Lemon Grass, but with an incredible root system that Lemon Grass does not have. Also they can coexist with other plants and fruit trees, etc. as the roots grow straight down. The plants are Roots 4 metres tall sterile so they do not spread where you don’t want them. When planted to form natural barriers, proximity to growing clumps restricts the passage of water while trapping sediments present. The roots hold the slope or ravine – source Wikipedia, see the website for more useful links.

Just 6 months old

Now some more good news Vetiver grass can now be bought in Spain from VetiverSpain in Sayalonga, just inland from the coast 7 km above Algarrobo. When David and Anna first moved to Spain their house was located on a mountainside that was not usable land. They had their land terraced and then they had bad soil erosion in the first heavy rain so they started researching for something to plant that

Ready for planting had a good root & for sale structure. After extensive research they came upon the Vetiver Grass System. When planted, it rapidly multiplied and their problem was quickly solved. The plants require no special soils or fertilizers and are very simple to plant. Just plant them between 15 – 30cms apart and water for the first couple of months every other day to start them off and just a few months later, you will have a natural Planted August 10th 2014 underground retaining wall! This plant can tolerate extreme conditions, from 55 degrees C in South Africa to -22 degrees C in Northern China, it is also very fire tolerant. Vetiver Same plants 30 days later grass is almost indeshowing pot bound roots structible by fire!

roots 4 metres deep After a severe burning, the plants will recover in as little as 6 weeks as the roots are still intact. See the website on the “Vetiver Fire Resistance” page. Dave and Anna have been growing Vetiver for about 4 years and now have in excess of 50,000 plants and have just started selling them at just 1€ each. So for an example a row of 30 linear metres will cost between 100€ and 200€ depending upon the type and severity of the erosion. It is a superb, cost effective, environmentally friendly

natural way of stopping erosion. On the website there are many useful photos on the “About” page, the “Photo gallery” page and on the “youtube” page there are numerous videos and articles about the grass with numerous links. We decided to do our bit by looking at the judges -- this month, Cheryl and Louis are in the paparazzi lens; Simon and Mel B will feature next month. Cheryl Fernandez-Versini Born: Cheryl Ann Tweedy 30 June 1983 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear. spouses: England footballer Ashley Cole (2006 – 2010); jet-setting restaurateur JeanBernard Fernandez-Versini (2014). Cheryl began sequence dancing at the age of four, and joined The Royal Ballet's summer school at the age of nine. She appeared in several television adverts, beginning in 1990 with one for British Gas alongside her younger brother Garry. When Cheryl got her big break in 2002, winning a place in Girls Aloud on reality TV show Popstars: The Rivals, one of the judges was Louis Walsh. The group made 20 consecutive top ten singles – including four number ones – and six platinum albums, two of which went to number one. As a solo artiste, Cheryl has had four number one singles and released four albums. She first became a judge on the UK version of The X Factor in 2008, and has been the winning judge/mentor twice in the three series she has judged. In 2011, Cheryl left to judge the American version but left after only three weeks. She subsequently sued the American producers for £2.65million. Her net worth is estimated at around £16m, and she is reportedly being paid £1.5 million for the current series of X Factor. In 2003, Cheryl was convicted of assault causing actual bodily harm after an altercation with a nightclub toilet attendant. She was sentenced to 120 hours of community service.

In addition to several other charitable works, Cheryl climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 2009 in aid of Comic Relief. She was admitted to the hospital with suspected acute malaria in 2010 after collapsing during an X Factor photoshoot in Cardiff. She secretly married Jean-Bernard last month after a three-month courtship; her stepfather found out via Facebook. Louis walsh Born: Michael Louis Vincent Walsh on 5 August 1952 in Kiltimagh, County Mayo. Louis began managing solo artistes and bands at the age of 15 while working in a music manager’s office in Dublin. His stable has included Johnny Logan, Boyzone, Westlife, Girls Aloud and Jedward. He currently manages 2011 X Factor finalists Union J. He put together Boyzone after reading about the phenomenal success of Take That in the UK. He has judged every series of the X Factor since it began in 2004. He has also guestjudged on Britain’s Got Talent and when he substituted for Simon Cowell on the American X Factor, his episode broke ratings records for the whole series. In November 2005, he quit the show mid-series after co-judge Sharon Osbourne poured a jug of water over him. He returned on the Saturday evening's live show, stating that he could not abandon his remaining competitor – this was Shayne Ward, who went on to win the competition. In 2012, Louis successfully sued The Sun newspaper after it admitted having paid a man 700 euros to make sexual advances to him in a public toilet.

Strange Customs Origins of some of our strange customs. 1. WHY: Why do men's clothes have buttons on the right while women's clothes have buttons on the left? BECAUSE: When buttons were invented, they were very expensive and worn primarily by the rich. Since most people are right-handed, it is easier to push buttons on the right through holes on the left. Because wealthy women were dressed by maids, dressmakers put the buttons on the maid's right! And that's where women's buttons have remained since. 2. WHY: Why do ships and aircraft use 'mayday' as their call for help? BECAUSE: This comes from the French word m'aidez - meaning 'help me' - and is pronounced, approximately, 'mayday.' 3. whY: Why are zero scores in tennis called 'love'? BECAUSE: In France, where tennis became popular, the round zero on the scoreboard looked like an egg and was called 'l'oeuf,' which is French for 'the egg.' When tennis was

introduced in the US, Americans (naturally), mispronounced it 'love.' 4. WHY: Why do X's at the end of a letter signify kisses? BECAUSE: In the Middle Ages, when many people were unable to read or write, documents were often signed using an X. Kissing the X represented an oath to fulfill obligations specified in the document. The X and the kiss eventually became synonymous.

Now is the time to file your non resident tax

Meet Melanie The Lemon!

According to the law, if you are a fiscal non-resident and own a property in Spain, you have to pay income tax on this property to the Agencia Tributaria (Tax Office), even if you rent out it.

Great mag, love it. I send you a picture of Melanie the Lemon, so called because she looks a bit like a melon.

Non resident taxes for 2013 must be declared and paid before December 30th 2014. From the end of 2011, the Spanish Tax office has been sending notification of any outstanding taxes to your house in Spain. If you do not act upon this notification, the tax office will fine you. However, if you file this tax before you receive the notification you can avoid the fine and the interest. The information provided in this article is not intended to be legal advice, but merely conveys general information related to legal issues. For more information, please write to

I found her by the side of the road, perhaps after being discarded by a lemon farmer. She reminded me of a lesson in diversity given to me when I arrived at university many years ago. The tutor rolled a bucket full of lemons onto the floor and we students were told to pick one up. The message was that although we were all different we were the same under the skin, kind of like lemons. Well that tutor would be amazed to meet Melanie, as she is clearly streets ahead on the evolutionary chart to other lemons. Best Wishes Neil Smith, Cutar

if it is "overpeeled." And to stop you crying when you peel them? Remedies range from peeling them under running water; soaking them in iced water for two – three hours before peeling; cutting off the root end first, then the top; chewing gum and even wearing sunglasses!

the • The phytochemicals in onions improve the working of Vitamin C in the body, thus gifting you with improved immunity.

• Onions contain chromium, which assists in regulating blood sugar. • For centuries, onions have been used to reduce inflammation and heal infections. • Do you enjoy sliced onions with your food? If yes, rejoice! Raw onion encourages the production of good cholesterol (HDL), thus keeping your heart healthy. • A powerful compound called quercetin in onions is known to play a significant role in preventing cancer. On an ounce-for-ounce basis, onions rank in the top 10 of commonly eaten vegetables in their quercetin content. When onions are simmered to make soup, their quercetin does not get degraded. It simply gets transferred into the water part of the soup. By using a low-heat method for preparing onion soup, you can preserve the health benefits of onion that are associated with this key flavonoid. • Got bitten by a honeybee? Apply onion juice on the area for immediate relief from the pain and burning sensation. • Onions scavenge free radicals, thereby reducing your risk of developing gastric ulcers. • Those bright green tops of green onions are rich in Vitamin A, so do use them often. • The flavonoids in onion tend to be more concentrated in the outer layers of the flesh. To maximize your health benefits, peel off as little of the fleshy, edible portion as possible when removing the onion's outermost paper layer. Even a small amount of "overpeeling" can result in unwanted loss of flavonoids. For example, a red onion can lose about 20% of its quercetin and almost 75% of its anthocyanins

Benamargosa is a lively village that stands at the heart of the Vélez-Málaga region and dates back to the 15th century to the time of the Moriscos, Moorish converts to Christianity. As you drive past Axarquia airport the scenery changes to a lush, tropical paradise, resplendently verdant with avocado and mango trees vying for attention between lemon and orange groves. The mostly dry river bed winds its way past Triana village until it comes to Benamargosa bridge, Puente de los diez ojos, so named because of the 10 arches or eyes, its hard to imagine that only 6 years ago the water actually came over the top of this bridge after a few days of particularly heavy rainfall which flooded most of the lower part of the village. Usually dry the river bed is used as a road for the farmers who work the land on either side and the many residents who have houses dotted along it from Triana to Cútar. Most days you find goats, mules, donkeys and horses lazily passing along it. Just opposite the bridge are lovely gardens with an avenue of trees and flowers, a central fountain featuring 4 naked girls, a childrens play area and a municipal swimming pool with sunbathing area, childs pool and cafeteria. The annual Fiesta del Campo erects a stage close to the bridge where performers entertain all night and visitors are offered Baticates, the local drink of avocado, cinnamon and a host of secret ingredients, followed later by an enormous paella with beer and wine. Also in the lower part of the village is the

Church of St. Mary of the Incarnation where baptisms took place as early as 1546. This church has an interesting piece of architecture where a huge archway joins the church to a neighbouring house! As you walk onwards and upwards through the Benamargosa village there are several long straight streets and other more narrow ones that weave their way across. There is a lovely square where the old town hall used to be with a pretty fountain and some very old houses some of which have been beautifully renovated. Higher up are the gardens of San Sebastián with stone steps leading up and through a narrow passageway dividing two houses, you can rest in these gardens as the town hall have thoughtfully provided several benches. Attached to the new Benamargosa town hall is

a 24 hour health clinic, a little further on is the village school and there are plenty of bars and restaurants that serve healthy, local cuisine. This village is on the route of sun and avocados and is 37 kilometres from Málaga at a height of 100 metres. Market day is Wednesday from 9am until 2pm and is held in the car park by the bridge and even under the bridge!

The excerpt below has been taken from Julie Chimes’ chapter in The Light: A Book of Wisdom – The Paradox of Forgiveness. why would anyone knowingly walk around with a sack of stones on their shoulders and an iron band clamped around their heart? What possible benefit is there in clinging onto pain, sadness, resentment, grudges and vengeance? And what induces us to carry this sack around with us 24/7, wearing our grim expression as a badge so others can see our suffering and martyrdom? Why would we deny ourselves the chance to live a life overflowing with joy, by doggedly hanging on to that which destroys all possibility of manifesting happiness, peace and love? Why would anyone do this? What is this load that we carry on our shoulders and what is it that slams the door of the heart firmly shut? The late Martin Luther King Jr gave us a clue when he said, “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” Often we do not even notice that the perceived wrongs, the rage, the tears, the hurts and even those little slights in our lives are being placed in that pesky sack, until we wonder why we are so utterly exhausted and overwhelmed, eaten away on the inside and often ill. But take heart, because there is one sure way to free ourselves from this contracted existence. It has been written about in every spiritual, philosophical and religious system and it has been practiced for centuries. What is more, anyone can do it, anywhere, at anytime; it works, it is free, it has no side effects and yet it is perhaps one of the most misunderstood teachings of all time. It is the key to finding the peace that surpasses all understanding; it is better known as forgiveness. I think clarification of what forgiveness is not can be helpful. It does not condone acts that are harmful to any part of creation. It does not necessitate liking the one we are forgiving. It does not mean we have to be in the physical presence of whoever we are forgiving. It does not mean we have to block our emotional responses to harmful acts against us. It does not mean we have to remain in abusive situations. It does not stop us from becoming a voice against atrocity. It is not used as a comfort blanket, negating the need for honest remorse in the perpetrators of abuse. It is never given with a set of conditions.

Big Cat Mystery Dog walker Stewart Lord is warning others to take extra care after claiming the creature - which may have been the 'Huttock Top Beast' - 'stalked' him near Rochdale A mysterious big cat the size of a large dog has been spotted in the British countryside, reigniting the local legend of the 'Huttock Top Beast'. Dog walker Stewart Lord says he saw the unusual animal while out with his wife and Staffordshire bull terrier in the hills above Rochdale, Greater Manchester. He described seeing a "big cat the size of an Alsatian" stood on a dry stone wall about 100 yards from him near Greenbooth reservoir in Norden. It's thought the creature could be the Huttock Top Beast, a puma-like animal that has been spotted several times in nearby Rossendale in recent years. Mr Lord told Rochdale Observer: “I am 110% sure of what it was. “It was a browny grey colour, its hind quarters were slightly higher than the front and it had a

long, thick tail, at least three quarters of the length of its body that curled down underneath.” Mr Lord and his wife Pat were walking their dog on a country lane behind Nutters restaurant at around 2pm on Sunday 28 September when the sighting occurred. And now he's warning other dog walkers in the area to be on their guard. He said: “It stood there looking at us for maybe 10 to 15 seconds before it slipped away over the other side of the wall. I walked over but there was no sign of it. "I think it was stalking us all the time we were up there. "I want to warn other dog walkers in the area to be wary.” The first reports of the Huttock Top Beast, so-called because the original sightings were near Huttock Top Farm in Bacup, took place in 2008. Numerous witnesses described seeing an animal resembling a black puma at several locations across the Rossendale valley in Lancashire.

Strange Customs (Continued) 5. WHY: Why do people clink their glasses before drinking a toast? BECAUSE: In earlier times it used to be common for someone to try to kill an enemy by offering him a poisoned drink. To prove to a guest that a drink was safe, it became customary for a guest to pour a small amount of his drink into the glass of the host. Both men would drink it simultaneously. When a guest trusted his host, he would only touch or clink the host's glass with his own. 6. WHY: Why are people in the public eye said to be 'in the limelight'? BECAUSE: Invented in 1825, limelight was used in lighthouses and theatres by burning a cylinder of lime which produced a brilliant light. In the theatre, a performer 'in the limelight' was the centre of attention. 7. WHY: Why is someone who is feeling great 'on cloud nine'? BECAUSE: Types of clouds are numbered according to the altitudes they attain, with nine being the highest cloud. If someone is said to be on cloud nine, that person is floating well above worldly cares.

8. WHY: In golf, where did the term 'Caddie' come from? BECAUSE: When Mary, Queen of Scots went to France as a young girl, Louis, King of France, learned that she loved the Scots game 'golf.' He had the first course outside of Scotland built for her enjoyment. To make sure she was properly chaperoned (and guarded) while she played, Louis hired cadets from a military school to accompany her. Mary liked this a lot and when she returned to Scotland (not a very good idea in the long run), she took the practice with her. In French, the word cadet is pronounced ‘ca-day' and the Scots changed it into caddie. 9. WHY: Why are many coin collection jar banks shaped like pigs? BECAUSE: Long ago, dishes and cookware in Europe were made of dense orange clay called 'pygg'. When people saved coins in jars made of this clay, the jars became known as 'pygg banks.' When an English potter misunderstood the word, he made a container that resembled a pig. And it caught on.

aa se

They lack locomotive ability, hence spend most of their life attached to some rock. The only way they can change their habitat is by hitching a ride on a passing crab or they may just detach from the rock and drag themselves through the water. There are separate sexes in sea anemones, although some species are also hermaphrodites. The eggs or sperms are released through the mouth. Asexual reproduction occurs by budding, binary fission (division in halves) or pedal laceration. Pedal laceration is a process in which pieces of the pedal disc break off to regenerate into small anemones.

They are stinging polyps that spend the major part of their lifetime attached to rocks on the bottom of the sea or on coral reefs. Sea anemones have a close resemblance to corals, jellyfish, tube-dwelling anemones and hydra. They were named after the colourful terrestrial flower. A sea anemone shows the typical anatomy of polyps with a small sac attached to the bottom by an adhesive foot. It has a column-shaped body which ends in an oral disc. There is a cavity at the centre which acts as the mouth as well as the anus; it is surrounded by numerous tentacles. The tentacles are equipped with many cnidocytes, the cells that function as a protection mechanism as well as a means of capturing prey. They contain stinging elements made up from toxic compounds, and have external sensory hair. When an organism touches the hair, cell explosion occurs, firing a harpoon-like structure which attaches to the organism and injects a small amount of poison. This gives the anemone its characteristic stingy feeling. The poison contains neurotoxins which help in capturing the prey by paralysing it. It is then moved by the tentacles into the mouth for digestion, inside the gastrovascular cavity. The toxins also serve as a defence mechanism against potential predators when mixed with water. Sea anemones are found in sizes ranging from less than 1¼ cm (½ in) to nearly 2 m (6 ft) in diameter.

Film iew d RevBoyhoo Among the most distinctive gifts of filmmaker Richard Linklater in his ability to take the simplest of stories and craft something profound and emotionally complex out of them. Like the "Before Sunrise" films, its plot is the picture of simplicity. This one can be summed up in but four words: a boy grows up.

– Mason, played by Ellar Coltrane – he is 5years-old and being fussed at for failing to turn in to his teacher the homework she found crumpled up in the bottom of his schoolbag. By the time the film ends, Mason is heading off to college. In the meantime, we watch Mason and Coltrane grow up before our eyes, sprouting from chubby kindergartener to clueless adolescents to brooding teens and, finally, to young men. Along the way, his annoying big sister, Lorelei also grows up. His divorced parents, played by Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette, grow grayer. And all of their lives grow more complicated, as lives tend to do.

But, also like the "Before Sunrise" films, it is a film of depth, working as it does to unearth universal truths in the minutia of everyday life. A masterpiece of independent filmmaking, "Boyhood" is nothing short of an emotional epic; relatable and moving and entirely unforgettable.

The greatest movies are those that hold up a mirror to the human condition and reflect something back at us that we too often manage to overlook. "Boyhood" is one of those movies.

When we first meet the film's main character

Boil the pasta until cooked. Meanwhile heat a little olive oil in a frying pan and sauté the onion until soft. Add the chilli and freshly ground black pepper, add the tomatoes, pepper, olives (if used) and garlic and cook for 3 minutes. Add a small sprinkling of sugar — this will reduce any acidity from the tomatoes. 2. Drain the pasta and mix with the tomato mixture, add the basil leaves, toss until the pasta is coated in the sauce. 3. Serve with the grated Parmesan over the top.

Aim to realise and combine your vocation with your identity and how you are perceived, and steadily weave this into your career TAURUS: April 21-May 21 You will experience a sudden insight of a potential new direction which would benefit and satisfy your quest and goals. A convenient burst of life energy will aid your aims in helping with research, study and stamina to achieve them GEMINI: May 22-June 21 You’ll need self-discipline to keep on track and guide your aspirations. Stay focused. It’s important to distinguish between real friendship and those that wish for distraction and entertainment, as well as to deliberately distract your good intentions CANCER: June 22-July 22 For a while your path continues to be strewn with curves, obstacles and obstructions you have to leap over. It will eventually even out, with the experiences and lessons gained during this challenging period fixed in your consciousness aiding the route to a deserved bright future LEO: July 23-August 23 Leos are familiar with, and even expect, praise as their legacy but now it’s time to turn around and practice the art of gratitude. Allow yourself to feel and express appreciation towards others and as an inner extension of your soul radiating light with all that you see, touch and sense VIRGO: August 24-September 22 Past conflicts are on the way to being resolved and could be aided if you let go of that stubborn streak and truly consider the other person(s) standpoint. Beating this hurdle will bring about a new level of consciousness, gelling past,

present and future, and create a new foundational sense of self. In turn this will strengthen your desire and ability to be of service in an endeavor that benefits humanity LIBRA: September 23 - October 22 Continuing the route to synthesis and understanding requires that you listen to others instead of propounding your own experiences. Try to enjoy the pleasures of daily life instead of dwelling on the vicissitudes and frustrations SCORPIO: October 23 - November 21 Your deep desires and aspirations are alight with fiery ideals pulling in many and differing directions. Time to rationalise then and form structures or your vital energy will be diffused and become tired SAGITTARIUS: November 22 - December 21 Whilst expressing yourself with individuality and flare, which comes easily to Sagittarians, it’s time to integrate yourself into group work, studies and new social activities. In this way you will be stimulated and vivified CAPRICORN: December 22 - January 20 Wow Capricorn, you are about to be bestowed with rewards and your golden cup filled with the waters of life. These waters are filled with understanding that it’s your mission to utilise and distribute! AQUARIUS: January 21 - February 19 You seek wisdom and vision that can serve others but first must face a long, at times arduous, trek into the world and the lessons that will be presented. Time to go forth PISCES: February 20 - March 20 You can create magic at this time, joining visible with invisible. Your arrows of aspiration have often fallen and struck you but each hit, although painful, has contributed to your enlightenment and new found abilities

For details callTom Bryson on 620109087 Sunday 9th & Monday 10th November The Saints Day of Morten Bisp, also known as St. Martin, falls on November 11th. In Denmark, it is customary to eat duck the evening before, Morten’s Evening. The story behind the evening is this: Shy and humble St. Martin, not wishing to be elected bishop, chose instead to hide in a goose pen. When the gaggling geese gave him away with their noise, Martin was forced to become bishop and used his new position to punish the noisy birds by marking November 11 as a day dedicated to the killing and eating of geese. And so in Medieval Europe – principally Germany and Denmark – geese were served with apples, currants and chestnuts. Today, however, as families have become smaller and geese rather expensive and extravagant for a party of four or less, a duck is generally served instead. To mark this special day Restaurant Sabina in Almuñecar is serving a special Mortens Duck dish served with red cabbage and boiled potatoes priced at just 9.50€ on these days. ) : a h a Jokes h David Cameron asked the Queen, "Your Majesty, how do you run such an efficient organisation? Are there any tips you can give me?" "Well," said the Queen, "The most important thing is to surround yourself with intelligent people." David Cameron then asked, "But how do I know if the people around me are really intelligent?" The Queen took a sip of tea."Oh, that's easy; you just ask them to answer an intelligent riddle, watch me and listen" The Queen pushed a button on her intercom. "Please send Prince Charles in here, would you?" Prince Charles walked into the room and said, "Yes, Mother? The Queen smiled and said to Charles, "Answer me this please Charles. Your mother and father have a child. It is not your brother and it is not your sister. Who is it?" Without pausing for a moment, Prince Charles answered "That would be me." "Yes, very good!" Said the Queen. "Ah ha I get it" said David, "Thank you Ma'am" and in a great rush he left. Cameron went back to Parliament and decided to ask Nick Clegg the same question. "Nick, answer this for me. Your mother and your father have a child. It's not your brother and it's not your sister. Who is it?" "I'm not sure," said Clegg and then in true Nick Clegg style he went on to say. "Let me get back to you on that one." He went to his advisers and asked everyone, but none could give him an answer. Frustrated, Nick went to the men's lavatory, and found Nigel Farage in there. "Nigel, see if you can answer this question." "Yes Nick" replied Nigel. "Your mother and father have a child and it's not your brother or your sister. Who is it?" Farage immediately answered, "That's easy,

it's me!" Clegg grinned, and said, "Good answer Nigel, I see it all now!" Clegg then went back to find Cameron and said to him; "David, I did some research and I have the answer to that riddle. If your mother and father have a child who is not your brother or your sister, the child is Nigel Farage!" Cameron went red in the face, got up, stomped over to Clegg, and yelled into his face, "No! You bloody idiot! It's Prince Charles! -------------------------------------------------------------A mother is driving her little girl to her friend's house for a play date. 'Mummy ,' the little girl asks, 'how old are you?' 'Honey, you are not supposed to ask a lady her age,' the mother replied. 'It's not polite.' 'OK', the little girl says, 'What colour was your hair 2 years ago?’ 'Now really,' the mother says, 'those are personal questions and are really none of your business.' Undaunted, the little girl asks, 'Why did you and Daddy get a divorce?' 'That's enough questions, young lady! Honestly!' The exasperated mother walks away as the two friends begin to play. 'My Mum won't tell me anything about her,' the little girl says to her friend. 'Well,' says the friend, 'All you need to do is look at her driver's licence. It's like a report card, it has everything on it.' Later that night the little girl says to her mother, 'I know how old you are. You are 32.' The mother is surprised and asks, 'How did you find that out?' 'I also know that you used to have brown hair.' The mother is past surprised and shocked now. Jokes h a ha :) He looks in the yellow pages and sure enough, there's an ad for "Bear Removers." He calls the number and the bear remover says he'll be over in 30 minutes. The bear remover arrives and gets out of his van. He's got a ladder, a baseball bat, a shotgun and a mean old pit bull. "What are you going to do," the homeowner asks? "I'm going to put this ladder up against the roof, then I'm going to go up there and knock the bear off the roof with this baseball bat. When the bear falls off, the pit bull is trained to grab his testicles and not let go. The bear will then be subdued enough for me to put him in the cage in the back of the van." He hands the shotgun to the homeowner. "What's the shotgun for?" asks the homeowner. "If the bear knocks me off the roof, shoot the dog." ------------------------------------------------------------I met a fairy today who said she would grant me one wish. "I want to live forever," I said. "Sorry," said the fairy, "but I am not allowed to grant that type of wish." "Fine," I said, "Then I want to die when England wins the World Cup." "You crafty devil!" said the fairy. ------------------------------------------------------------Two women were playing golf. One teed off and watched in horror as her ball headed directly toward a foursome of men playing the next hole. The ball hit one of the men. He immediately clasped his hands together at his groin, fell to the ground and proceeded to roll around in agony. The woman rushed down to the man and immediately began to apologise. 'Please allow me to help. I'm a Physiotherapist and I know I could relieve your pain if you'd allow me,' she told him. 'Oh, no, I'll be all right. I'll be fine in a few minutes,' the man replied. He was in obvious agony, lying in the foetal position, still clasping

his hands there at his groin. At her persistence, however, he finally allowed her to help. She gently took his hands away and laid them to the side, loosened his pants and put her hands inside. She administered tender and artful massage for several long moments and asked, 'How does that feel'? He replied: 'It feels great, but I still think my thumb's broken!' ------------------------------------------------------------A guy goes on to a ship to sail (and work) but he notices no women on board so he runs to the captain “Captain Captain! There’s no women on board, what will be do for pleasure?” The Captain replied, “Ohh... dont worry me laddie just stick ur thingy in that barrel and everything will be alright.” So after a few weeks at sea the guy sticks his willy in the barrel and gets a wonderful sensation. So he does this every day after that until one day he sticks his willy in the barrel and nothing happens. So he runs to the captain and says “Captain Captain! I stuck my willy in the barrel and nothing happed! The Captain says, “Oh I forgot to tell you laddie, its your turn in the barrel!”

Saint Stevie the Scouse Section What do you call a scouser in a university? The caretaker ------------------------------------------------------------There are so many boarded up houses in Liverpool that the window cleaner goes round with a sander.

Ginger Bamber Section Q: Whats the difference between a ginger and a brick? A: At least a brick gets laid. ------------------------------------------------------------Q: Why are the Harry Potter films unrealisitc? A: A ginger kid has 2 friends!
