I’ve just returned from the UK where I went to join a very good friend celebrate her marriage to an Ozzie guy.

sales: kami - 664 210 468 Distribution/Collections: tony - 664 689 138

The wedding was amazing and apart from the relative chilliness (in comparison to the temperature in Spain at this time of the year, PLUS the fact that I was wearing nothing but a sleeveless dress and a flimsy shawl) the day went without a glitch and continued until late.

Follow us on twitter @the_sentinella or @keidi_keating

And I almost caught the bride’s bouquet. I say almost as my fingers brushed the side and I managed to pull off a sprig, while a Big Bertha in trousers dove at it uncouthly as if she were a goalkeeper. I simply could not defeat her sheer determination (especially in my figure-hugging dress!)

Deposito Legal Ma-1435-2005

However, while I had a fantastic time at the wedding, chatting complete nonsense to strangers and dancing around the house’s conservatory after a few too many glasses of bubbly, throughout most of my stay in the UK one thing stuck out like a great big sore red pussy thumb – the negativity all around. Let’s start with the TV. Here in Spain I never watch television. In fact the only time I’ve switched on my box within the last two years is to play a yoga or a workout DVD.

The Sentinella is eternally dedicated to Colin Checkley, the founder and editor of The Sentinel Magazine. May he rest in peace. (Born; 1960 Died; 2004)

Yet suddenly here I was sitting in front of the television (unavoidable when you stay at someone else’s house and that’s how they choose to spend the evening) as it churned out words, images and sounds often vile enough to make my stomach churn. I felt my mind becoming slowly poisoned, as if a black sticky liquid had started to seep into it, like oil into the ocean.

Strange News

Another day I took a trip to the nearest town of Bromley for some last minute shopping for the wedding and my eardrums were bombarded with curses and foul language from people who were speaking as if it were their everyday conversation – including mums with small children.

Raining Worms! Pupils at a Scottish school had to run for cover when it began raining worms during their PE lesson.

I could continue to recite all the examples of negativity that I noticed during my trip, but I think I should stop there. After all, I’m back in Spain now. The sun is shining, I’m sipping a watermelon juice and life has suddenly just been cranked up a few notches!

Keidi Keating

Editor (of the original little mag)!

Teacher, David Crichton was leading a group of pupils playing football at Galashiels Academy when dozens of worms started plummeting from the sky. Mr Crichton and his colleagues eventually found around 120 worms in total on the artificial football pitch and nearby tennis courts. Tsunami Dog Reunited With Owner A dog rescued more than a mile off the coast of Japan three weeks after the quake and tsunami has been reunited with her owner. The female owner and two-year-old Ban had an emotional reunion at an animal care centre. The dog was found by a Japan Coast Guard crew on a drifting roof some 1.1 miles off Kesennuma, Miyagi prefecture, one of the worsthit areas along Japan's north-east coast. Ban immediately jumped up and wagged her tail when her owner - who recognised her dog on a TV report about the rescue - appeared.

Life's A Beach! A Swedish lifestyle magazine is looking to hire a 'beach tester' to check out seaside resorts around the world. Duties will include receiving full-body massages, drinking wine at local taverns, and reading books on the beach. Women's lifestyle magazine, Amelia, posted the advertisement with the Swedish National Public Employment Service. Candidates are expected to spend four weeks testing beaches in four different locations around the globe. They must be able to swim, be willing to work late nights, as well as 'have the capacity to rest/do nothing for long periods of time.' The successful candidate will be invited to travel to four different destinations - Corsica, Cape Town, and two locations in Asia - and they will be expected to blog about their experiences.

Our Very Own Confucius The Sentinella’s Confucius says.......... Man who wants pretty nurse, must be patient. Passionate kiss, like spider web, leads to undoing of fly. Better to be pissed off than pissed on. Lady who goes camping must beware of evil intent. Squirrel who runs up woman’s leg will not find nuts. Man who leaps off cliff jumps to conclusion. Man who runs in front of car gets tired, man who runs behind car gets exhausted. Man who eats many prunes get good run for money.

War does not determine who is right, it determines who is left. Man who fight with wife all day get no piece at night. It takes many nails to build a crib, but one screw to fill it. Man who drives like hell is bound to get there. Man who stands on toilet is high on pot. Man who live in glass house should change clothes in basement. Man who fish in other man's well often catch crabs. Finally CONFUCIUS SAYS. . . "A lion will not cheat on his wife, but a Tiger Wood!"

De Cotta Is inheritance tax in Spain about to change? By Jon Sutton, Solicitor and Registered Foreign Lawyer at De Cotta McKenna y Santafe

to a spouse, child or parent of up to €175,000 tax free. This is an all or nothing allowance not a nil rate band so a gift of €176,000 would be taxable on the full amount.

Inheritance tax is an important consideration for anyone who owns property in Spain or is thinking of purchasing. The autonomous regions are allowed to set their own inheritance tax levels and allowances. However these allowances only apply for the estates of people who have been resident in that region for five years and the beneficiaries are similarly resident. If both the deceased and beneficiaries do not satisfy the residency requirement then the national state rules apply.

As previously stated, these allowances only apply where the deceased and beneficiaries are residents. If not, the much less generous state rules apply which simply allow a deduction of just under €16,000 from the gift for tax purposes for spouse, children and parents of the deceased. This can mean that non resident beneficiaries pay many thousands of Euros more tax than they would if they were residents.

There is a vast difference between the state inheritance tax rules and the regional allowances. Several regions have virtually no inheritance tax between spouses or between parents and children. Others have less generous allowances, nevertheless with professional advice the reductions can be utilised so as to significantly lower or eliminate the inheritance tax burden. For example Andalucia allows a gift

However help may be at hand. On the 16th February this year, the European Commission asked Spain to amend its tax provisions on inheritance and gift tax on the basis that they impose a higher tax burden on non-residents and on assets held abroad. How Spain will respond, when this will be and how this will change the inheritance tax burden for none residents is not yet clear. The Spanish Government is in financial difficulties as it is and will be reluctant to give up this lucrative, if unjust, stream of revenue. However, Spain is now on notice and to delay the matter may lead to claims from beneficiaries who are adversely affected by Spain's failure to comply. This could lead to a similar situation to Capital Gains Tax which was also discriminatory and ultimately amended to be the same for non-residents and residents alike and also led to a deluge of claims for compensation from people who had paid the higher rate of tax as non residents. It would be well worth everyone with a property in Spain to consult their lawyer or accountant to see whether changes should be made to their wills to reduce or eliminate inheritance tax. Warning - Read Carefully! Microwaving Water! A man decided to have a cup of coffee. He took a cup of water and put it in the microwave to heat it up. I am not sure how long he set the timer for, but he wanted to bring the water to a boil. When the timer shut the oven off, he removed the cup. As he looked into the cup, he noted that the water was not boiling, but suddenly the water in the cup 'blew up' into his face. The cup remained intact until he threw it out of his hand, but all the water had flown out into his face due to the buildup of energy. His whole face is blistered and he has 1st and 2nd degree burns to his face. He also may have lost partial sight in his left eye. While at the hospital, the doctor who was attending to him stated that this is a fairly common occurrence and water (alone) should never be heated in a microwave oven. If water is heated in this manner, something should be placed in the cup to diffuse the energy such as a wooden spoon, tea bag, etc...(nothing metal). General Electric's Response: Microwaved water and other liquids do not always bubble when they reach the boiling point. They can actually get superheated and not bubble at all. The superheated liquid will bubble up out of

the cup when it is moved or when something like a spoon or tea bag is put into it. To prevent this from happening, do not heat any liquid for more than two minutes per cup. After heating, let the cup stand in the microwave for thirty seconds! Before moving it or adding anything into it. Local science teacher’s comments - I have seen this happen before. It is caused by a phenomenon known as super heating. It can occur anytime water is heated and will particularly occur if the vessel that the water is heated in is new or when heating a small amount of water (less than half a cup). What happens is that the water heats faster than the vapour bubbles can form. If the cup is very new then it is unlikely to have small surface scratches inside it that provide a place for the bubbles to form. As the bubbles cannot form and release some of the heat that has built up, the liquid does not boil and the liquid continues to heat up well past its boiling point. What then usually happens is that the liquid is jarred, which is just enough of a shock to cause the bubbles to rapidly form and expel the hot liquid. The rapid formation of bubbles is also why a carbonated beverage spews when opened after having been shaken.'

New Michelin Tyres Look out for them in August. These tyres are made in Greenville, South Carolina, USA - See through tyres! They are a radical new tyre design created by Michelin. They are the next generation of tyres. Recently they had a pair on show at the Philadelphia car show. Makes you wonder how the ride feels doesn't it? These tyres are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon. The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these. Just think of the impact on existing technology: A. no more air valves... B. no more air compressors at gas stations... C. no more repair kits... D. no more flats... These are actual pictures taken at the South Carolina Michelin plant..

Congratulations!!! The Sentinella would like to congratulate Linda

and Geoff from Arkwrights in Puente don Manuel on their marriage which took place in Gibraltar on Wednesday 20th April 2011. After the ceremony they had a lovely meal with friends and family. We wish them many more happy years as a married couple.

Go Ahead, Make My Day!

This is the true story of a Garage Owner in New Mexico who gave his dog a haircut. He was sick and tired of thugs breaking into his garage shop to steal tools, etc. So he came up with this idea to give his dog a haircut. He put the word out that he had a new Mexican Lion that would attack anyone that tried to break in or climb his fence. Would-be thieves saw the "Lion" from a distance and fled the scene.

The dog's probably trying to figure out why his head's so hot and his butt's so cold!!

ra a p Pa Profile

Name: Cheryl Cole Birthday: 30th June, 1983 age: 27 sign: Cancer Birthplace: Newcastle upon Tyne Facts about Cheryl Cole Cheryl Cole is an English singer, songwriter, dancer, and model. Rising to fame in late 2002, she was selected to become a member of girl group Girls Aloud on ITV's reality television programme Popstars The Rivals. With the group she achieved twenty consecutive top ten singles (including four number ones) in the UK and five studio albums, two of which went to number one in the UK. Since Girls Aloud pursued separate careers, Cheryl Cole has released two consecutive number one albums in the UK: 3 Words and Messy Little Raindrops; scoring two number one singles in the UK. She became a judge on the British televised singing competition The X Factor in 2008. She has become a recognised and photographed style icon. Her picture has been on the covers of British Vogue, Elle and Harper's Bazaar, while also becoming the new face of cosmetic company L'Oréal. Cole was married to England footballer Ashley Cole from July 2006 until she divorced him in September 2010. Cheryl was born in Newcastle upon Tyne. She is the fourth of five children of Joan Callaghan, and the eldest child of Gary Tweedy. Cole's parents never married each

other; they separated when she was 11. She has a brother and three elder maternal half-siblings. As she was interested in dancing from an early age, Cheryl started sequence dancing at the age of four, before joining The Royal Ballet's summer school at the age of nine. She won many modelling competitions, including the titles of Boots Group's "bonniest baby", Mothercare's Happy Faces Portrait competition, "Best Looking Girl of Newcastle", The Evening Chronicle's "Little Miss and Mister", and "Most Attractive Girl" at the MetroCentre. She also appeared in two British Gas adverts, an SCS advert, and an Eldon Square Christmas advert. Cheryl attended Walker Comprehensive School in Newcastle and left at 16 with few qualifications. During her time there, she was suspended twice: once for fighting with another pupil and again for swearing on a bus. After school, she took a job as a waitress in a restaurant. In February 2011, Cheryl launched her own charitable foundation with The Prince’s Trust following a meeting with The Trust’s President, HRH The Prince of Wales. The Cheryl Cole Foundation will provide vital funds for The Trust in the North East, helping disadvantaged young people from Cheryl’s region. On 3 July 2010, Cheryl was admitted to hospital with suspected acute malaria. This was shortly after a visit to Tanzania, where it is believed she may have contracted the disease. During an X Factor photoshoot in Cardiff, Cole said she noticed her lips were blue. She later collapsed and was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with malaria.

Naturvets One Saturday a couple of weeks ago, we had two emergency call outs within hours of each other in our practice in Cómpeta. They were two separate cases, but the dogs lived in the same area and had the same intoxication symptoms. The first one had been let out to go to the toilet, but came back vomiting and rapidly progressed to a state of convulsions. It was impossible for us to control his vitals, and he died of the convulsions. The second dog hadn’t even left the house, but got the same symptoms – although less severe. We managed to save her life as her contact with the toxic agent had been less direct. From the symptoms we can conclude that the toxin that affected the dogs had to be a pesticide; a poison used to fight bugs in order to protect the crops. But as the owners of the dogs hadn’t used pesticides in their gardens, the poison must have got there by the wind. We managed to save one of the dogs, but imagine the impact the pesticide must have had on the wildlife in the area: all the birds, rodents, lizards, etc. In Spain, in order to use pesticides, it is com-

pulsory to possess a special permit. You only get this after having attended a course, which means you are aware of the strict guidelines regarding your personal security and protection of the environment. On the course, you are taught how, when, how much and for what to use pesticides as they are highly toxic. We are quite certain that the person who used pesticides that Saturday morning probably didn’t know the precautions you have to take before – and during – the use of them. With my own eyes, I have seen people mixing cancerous substances with their bare hands! I don’t really think the blame lies 100% with the person himself, as no-one has warned him of the danger to his personal health, the wildlife and his own crops as well. I think the situation is in hands of the authorities, as they should make sure the courses reach the people who use these products, and they are responsible for policing their use. On the other hand, as consumers, we can also have an influence by avoiding products obtained by the use of pesticides, so think about what you put on your table. See main advert below

Solutions 4 U Finding solutions for property problems The property market does now seem to be picking up and there are more sales this year than last, so that is encouraging for us all. And for anyone seriously looking to buy this year, there are certainly some bargains to be had now due to some very good price reductions on some properties. It is still of the utmost importance to check out the legalities of the property as all buyers are insistent on buying a property with a Deed (Escritura) and making sure all of the property is listed correctly on that deed. Each property should have a Title Deed, be registered in Catastro and inscribed in the Property and Land Registry. In these three places, the owner’s name should appear and the land and property measurements should be correct and all coincide. If you find out that this isn’t the case with your property, don’t worry, you are not alone and we find that most things can be sorted out. We are still dedicating much time to these issues and offer a FREE initial consultation for people to book an appointment and bring along their paperwork; we will give an individual and impartial

Breast & Body Screening

review. From there we give written estimates for any procedures needed to correctly inscribe properties and customers are guided through the process. You won’t be paying for work that isn’t done, or asked to pay all costs for work up front. There is now talk of the ‘legalisation’ of many country homes that the Junta presently claims to be illegal. Elections are coming up and there is plenty of electoral propaganda promising the legalisation of houses and modification of the current laws, but nothing firm has been passed yet. Once it has, Solutions 4 U will work out a strategy in the most economical and efficient way for homeowners needing to comply with any new requirements, so that their properties will then be considered fully legal. We also offer independent property sale conveyancing for home owners with a possible sale agreed and are looking for legal representation to promote and protect their interests. We are a team of hard working lawyers with an English advisor, all with many years’ experience. We have offices in Cómpeta and VelezMalaga. All first appointments are Free of Charge. Report Cards These are comments made on students' report cards by teachers in the New York City public school system. All teachers were reprimanded (but boy, these are funny!) 1. Since my last report, your child has reached rock bottom and has started to dig. 2. I would not allow this student to breed. 3. Your child has delusions of adequacy. 4. Your son is depriving a village somewhere of an idiot. 5. Your son sets low personal standards and then consistently fails to achieve them.

9. The gates are down, the lights are flashing, but the train isn't coming..

6. The student has a 'full six-pack' but lacks the plastic thing to hold it all together.

10. If this student were any more stupid, he'd have to be watered twice a week.

7. This child has been working with glue too much

11. It's impossible to believe the sperm that created this child beat out 1,000,000 others.

8. When your daughter's IQ reaches 50, she should sell.

Poetry These are entries to a Washington post competition asking for a two-line rhyme with the most romantic first line and the least romantic second line: 1. My darling, my lover, my beautiful wife: Marrying you has screwed up my life. 2. I see your face when I am dreaming. That's why I always wake up screaming. 3. Kind, intelligent, loving and hot; This describes everything you are not. 4. Love may be beautiful, love may be bliss, But I only slept with you 'cause I was pissed. 5. I thought that I could love no other

-- that is until I met your brother... 6. Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you. But the roses are wilting, the violets are dead, the sugar bowl's empty and so is your head. 7. I want to feel your sweet embrace; But don't take that paper bag off your face. 8. I love your smile, your face, and your eyes Damn, I'm good at telling lies! 9. My love, you take my breath away. What have you stepped in to smell this way? 10. My feelings for you no words can tell, Except for maybe 'Go to hell.' WHO SAID POETRY IS BORING?

To advertise call 664 210 468 or email John and Lynn set up five years ago and now supply printer ink and stationery to customers throughout the Axarquia region from Nerja to Rincon and the inland villages, supplying both original branded and high quality compatible ink cartridges at the best prices. Some customers may be wondering what the differences are between original inks and compatibles. The first and foremost difference is most definitely the cost. Compatibles are cheaper: there is no doubt about it. However, sometimes it is worth looking into more than simple monetary value, namely in the print quality. If you’re printing a page full of text, you almost certainly will not be able to tell the difference. This is great news for businesses who print a large quantity of text-heavy documents, as compatibles would be the obvious choice due to their low cost per page. Images, however, are a bit more complicated. Any drop in image quality in a photo will be a lot more obvious to the eye than text. Most companies will tell you that their remanufactured cartridges are equal to the original and that you only save money. Well, this is NOT quite true. If these cartridges were 100% equal to the original HP, Canon, Lexmark etc., why would anyone buy original cartridges? After all, new original cartridges are rather expensive! Therefore we say a remanufactured cartridge is ‘nearly as good’ as the original. A remanufactured cartridge is NOT a brand new cartridge, hence the big difference in price

and/or ink quantity. Although all these cartridges are tested before they are sold, there will always be the occasional one that does not meet your expectations. Bear in mind that remanufactured cartridges often are (a lot) less expensive and/or contain two or even three times the amount of ink as the original cartridge and can therefore work out much cheaper. However, if you want 100% peace of mind, please buy originals only. All our products are fully guaranteed and if you have any problems with the ink cartridges, we will replace them for you. For more information about your printer cartridges, or for a chat about the most suitable types of printers, you can always find us at your local market where we will be happy to help. can be found at the following local markets 10.00am to 1.30pm Tuesday - Los Jardines del Trapiche (nr. Tasmanian devils belong to the family of the order Marsupialia (pouched mammals, like the kangaroo). Their body is covered with jet black fur, with white coloured markings on chest, rump, shoulder or at times even on the tail. Adults have heads and necks that are too big for their body weight, because they have large powerful jaws to cut and crunch their way through their victims. Tasmanian devils have a notoriously cantankerous disposition and will fly into a maniacal rage when threatened by a predator, fighting

for a mate, or defending a meal. Early European settlers dubbed it a ‘devil’ after witnessing such displays, which include teeth baring, lunging and an array of spine-chilling guttural growls. Devils are scavengers who eat any dead animals in the forest. It doesn’t matter how old or rotten the carcass is. Similar to hyenas devils eat almost every part (bones, skin, skull). They also catch snakes, birds, lizards, rodents, small wallabies and lamb. The Tasmanian devil is the world’s largest carnivorous marsupial reaching 30 inches (76 centimetres) in length and weighing up to 26 pounds (12 kilograms). Its oversized head houses sharp teeth and strong, muscular jaws that can deliver, pound for pound, one of the most powerful bites of any mammal.

More then 50 Tasmanian devils die each year.

It’s Share’oscope time again!

The tail of a Tasmanian devil looks somewhat like a small bear.

Last month Mr Stockmarket bought Solomon Gold shares at 27p. They have slipped back a tad to 25p.

The Tasmanian Devil is also called the Native Devil.

This month he has chosen Gulf Keystone Petroleum and he has purchased 606 at 165p each.

They see in black and white. On rough terrain Tasmanian Devils can run faster then humans but on smooth terrain they cannot run as fast. The Tasmanian Devil stores its fat in its tail therefore a fat tail means a healthy devil.

The Word Queen Today we’re going to focus on watering your seeds, so you can watch your ideas thrive! Gather your list of three to four ideas and decide which you would like to explore further. Try not to look at these ideas from solely your own personal taste. Remember that your idea has to possess a commercial edge to work out there in the big wide world. Will it impress publishers and agents? Would you feel proud telling the biggest publishing companies about it? Here are two ways you can decide exactly which idea to go for: write a Press release Write a press release for each idea to check that the final book will sell well, even just as a concept. A press release is a one-page news story that elaborates on your book and proves that it is unique and worth looking at. Your press release gives your book a chance to get noticed. Any idea that can’t stand out on a press release is too risky to follow up.

Ensure your idea is Big Enough Make sure you can create enough gripping content to fill 250 – 500 pages, or however long you want your book to be. After you’ve completed the two steps above you should now have one glistening idea in your head, which is THE ONE; the idea which is going to lead you to produce a best-selling book. Next month we'll look at the next steps in the process... Love & Light, The Word Queen xx If you have written a book and you'd like to get it published, or if you're just after some impartial advice, email The Word Queen on or see her advert opposite.

Where’s My Grandma? The computer swallowed grandma. Yes, honestly its true! She pressed 'control and 'enter' And disappeared from view. It devoured her completely, The thought just makes me squirm. she must have caught a virus Or been eaten by a worm. I've searched through the recycle bin And files of every kind; I've even used the Internet, But nothing did I find. In desperation, I asked Jeeves My searches to refine. The reply from him was negative, Not a thing was found 'online.' So, if inside your 'Inbox,' My Grandma you should see, Please 'Copy, Scan' and 'Paste' And send her back to me.

Wise Words Amazing simple home remedies 1. To avoid cutting yourself when slicing vegetables, get someone else to hold the vegetables while you chop. 2. To avoid arguments with the females about lifting the toilet seat - use the sink. 3. A mouse trap placed on top of your alarm clock will prevent you from rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze button. 4. If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives - you'll be too afraid to cough. 5. If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.. Psychic Medium Energy Healer

Mark Bajerski

It was a lovely sunny mornng in Mijas Pueblo and as I opened one of the two shops I own with my wife, Suzie, I saw a lady coming up the stairs heading straight for me. I greeted her and instantly knew she was brought up the stairs to see the sign on my wall, which read 'angel and tarot readings.' As I started the reading I felt a deep pain that signalled the loss of a loved one and as my cards spoke I picked up her wonderful husband in spirit. I continued with all that I needed to say, including why she married this amazing man, but I felt I had missed something. We said our goodbyes and while I pondered over what more I could have said, an angel bookmark fell off my shelf and landed at my feet. My heart skipped a beat, as I knew this was the final message I must give this lady, but she had gone and the chances of seeing her again were slim. I read the message on the bookmark, which went along these lines: MY DEAR LOVE, WORDS COULDN’T SAY HOW I FEEL ABOUT YOU. YOU ARE MY HEART MY STRENGTH AND MY LIFE, MY LOVE WILL NEVER DIE AND I GIVE YOU AN ANGEL TO WATCH OVER YOU AND ALWAYS KEEP YOU SAFE. As I read this with tears in my eyes I had a powerful vision of Annie talking with my wife, but I knew she didn't know about our other shop. I felt an overwhelming urge to call my wife and I explained that a lady called Annie would call in and that somehow she'd know who this lady was! Suzie told me that within ten minutes a lady came into our shop and headed towards her. Annie was totally shocked when Suzie knew who she was. She hurried back to me and I gave her the message. The final piece of the jigsaw was in place and I now felt happy that my job was done. The universe is a magical place which pulls people in the direction of help. I had complete confidence that Annie would meet my wife. Coincidence or not, this true story has burned into my soul and without question Annie’s late husband played a huge role in this very special day. See main advert opposite.

The little hamlet of Benaque We are visiting a little known and very small village that is a hop, skip and a jump away from the larger village of Macharaviaya. There is even a two-kilometre walking track between the two villages, called the Ruta de Salvador Rueda after the hamlet´s most famous son, the poet of the same name who was born here on December 3rd 1857. If you have n e v e r heard of Salvador Rueda, a visit to Benaque will quickly put that right. On entering the village, the road is called Calle de Salvador Rueda; the school is called Colegio de Salvador Rueda, the bar is called Salvador Rueda and the house he was born in bears a plaque showing he was born there and outside stands a bronze bust depicting his face. This simple house of his birth is a fitting place for this self-taught son of a labourer who himself called it a ‘poor house.’

The enormous brick-built church of Virgen del Rosario dominates the village and is so huge that the only place to photograph it is two kilometres away. Salvador Rueda has certainly left his presence in this sleepy hamlet as his poems have left their mark on the history of Spanish arts; he being their first modernist poet. To find Benaque, turn off the autovia following signs for Macharaviaya, and after 11 kilometres, just before the last turn on the road, you will see the village in the distance. Benaque is at an altitude of 240 metres, a little higher up with the church standing proudly in its centre, and then Macharaviaya is two kilometres below it. By Sally Harrison

A teen-oriented reworking of the classic fairy tale, Red Riding Hood turns the big, bad wolf into a big, bad werewolf whose bloodlust threatens the future of a small medieval village.

child, and her loving family—parents Cesaire and Suzette (Billy Burke and Virginia Madsen), plus her wise, independent grandmother (Julie Christie)—is a safe harbour from life’s storms. Valerie is madly in love with the ruggedly handsome woodcutter Peter (Shiloh Fernandez), who she has been inseparable from since childhood. So they’re devastated to learn that Valerie’s parents have arranged her to marry the well-to-do Henry (Max Irons). Then the wolf strikes, taking Valerie’s older sister. The villagers are told that the wolf assumes its bestial form only when the moon is full and for the rest of the time it lives in human form and could be any one of them…

The tiny village of Daggerhorn lies in the shadow of a deep, dark wood and a big, bad wolf whose bloody visits have been staved off for two decades with regular offerings of prime livestock.

Seyfried was born to play a Red Riding Hood bold enough to confront her wolf face-to-face, and she’s by far the movie’s greatest asset.

Pretty Valerie (Amanda Seyfried) isn’t afraid. The wolf hasn’t struck since she was a tiny

Patriotic Retirement Plan Dear Mr. Cameron,

in duty/tax etc...

Please find below our suggestion for fixing England 's economy. Instead of giving billions of pounds to banks that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.. You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:

6) Instead of stuffing around with the carbon emissions trading scheme that makes us pay for the major polluters, tell the greedy b******* to reduce their pollution emissions by 75% within 5 years or we shut them down. It can't get any easier than that!

There are about 10 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them ÂŁ1 million each severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back their falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances

1) They MUST retire. Ten million job openings - Unemployment fixed 2) They MUST buy a new British car. Ten million cars ordered - Car Industry fixed 3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed 4) They MUST send their kids to school/college/university - Crime rate fixed 5) They MUST buy ÂŁ100 WORTH of alcohol/tobacco a week.... and there's your money back

Veggie Patch Last month on the veggie patch disaster struck! I popped there for an hour or so for a spot of watering and weeding, but I forgot to turn the mains water tap off, including one of the mini taps on the irrigation system pipes! The water pressure built up to such a degree that the irrigation pipe came away shooting water full blast all over our onions, plus the next door neighbour’s veggies. I didn’t find out about this little mishap until Kami and Tony visited the patch a few days later and was told by a disgruntled neighbour, who

rushed over to turn the water off when he noticed the mini deluge! Our veggie patch has also fallen victim to theft. Luckily no one stole our lettuces, but someone did make off with our brand new hoe. Apart from all that news, the veggies themselves seem to be doing rather well. Our carrots and raddishes were planted from seed and they never sprouted, but I’m happy to report that out lettuces and beetroots are ready to pick. It’s salads all round!

Osteopathy For The Whole Family This month Clementine speaks to us about the differences between osteopathy, physiotherapy and chiropractic? What these three specialities have in common is their goal: they all aim to restore movement where it has been lost. Their philosophy lies on the same very simple principle: health = movement. Chiropractic focuses especially on diagnosing and treating the alteration of the mobility of the spine and pelvis, under the hypothesis that a disturbance in the balance of these areas affects the general health via the nervous system (the nerves which exit the spinal column). Spinal manipulation is the most common treatment used by chiropractors. When a patient presents with acute symptoms, the physiotherapist will aim to alleviate them, using massage, movement and specific exercise routines…. they are also trained in re-educating muscle strength and movement when it has been lost: eg rehabilitation after an accident, in case of diseases of the nervous system or perhaps old age…. Osteopaths focus on finding the cause of the patient’s symptoms.« Regardless » of a particular complaint, the osteopath will test and treat the whole body in order to restore the balance that has been lost, hence leading to pain in a particular area. They will work wherever function has been disturbed: in the musculo-skeletal system (joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons); the visceral system (internal organs and the membranes that support them) and the nervous system (nerves and the membranes that cover the nervous system). It is in that sense that osteopathy is called an ‘holistic’ medicine. (Holistic is a term meaning the whole body). It is for these reasons that osteopathy is particularly efficient in the cases of people who feel they have ‘lost’ the balance of their health, for example after a physical or emotional trauma (or a few traumas!), a disease, an operation or stressful period which may be physical or emotional. Sometimes, people feel that their body is constantly ‘juggling’ and adapting to different strains. “A week ago my knee was hurting and now it is gone, but my shoulder is killing me; there always seems to be something wrong!” Nothing is ‘wrong’ though! Your body is just trying to adapt to the many strains of a normal life-

time. It just sometimes gets to a point when it needs a hand …. It is important to understand that although physiotherapy and osteopathy are totally complementary, they are two totally different jobs. Physiotherapists and osteopaths have very different skills and receive very different training. In some European countries (especially Spain), there is still great confusion about those two specialities. So as you will have understood by now, osteopaths don’t only treat low back pain and don’t only use manipulations. In reality, osteopathy includes a lot of different techniques ranging from the more traditional joint manipulation to some very subtle techniques which involve a very light touch. And remember, if a joint manipulation is needed, it will always be gentle, extremely precise and totally adapted to your individual body. For more information, or if you have any questions, you can contact Clémentine Duplan, osteopath, Bsc(Hons) ost (UK) on: 622 078 432 “OSTEOPATHY for the whole family” Clementine Duplan

Don’t Mess!! For all who work with rude customers, shame we can't actually do this ! An award should go to the Virgin Airlines desk attendant in Sydney some months ago for being smart and funny, while making her point, when confronted with a passenger who probably deserved to fly as cargo.

Random Joke :) Who in the hell is Larry? Well Larry is the guy who gets home late one night and Linda, his wife, says "Where the hell have you been?" Larry replies "I was out getting a tattoo!" "A tattoo?" she frowned. "What kind of tattoo did you get?" "I got a hundred dollar bill on my privates" he said proudly. "What the hell were you thinking?" she said, shaking her head in disgust. "Why on earth would an accountant get a hundred dollar bill tattooed on his privates?"

A crowded Virgin flight was cancelled after Virgin's 767s had been withdrawn from service. A single attendant was re-booking a long line of inconvenienced travellers. Suddenly an angry passenger pushed his way to the desk. He slapped his ticket down on the counter and said, 'I HAVE to be on this flight and it HAS to be FIRST CLASS'.. The attendant replied, 'I'm sorry, sir. I'll be happy to try to help you, but I've got to help these people first, and I'm sure we'll be able to work something out.' The passenger was unimpressed. He asked loudly, so that the passengers behind him could hear, 'DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO I AM?' Without hesitating, the attendant smiled and grabbed her public address microphone: 'May I have your attention please, may I have your attention please,' she began - her voice heard clearly throughout the terminal - 'we have a passenger here at Desk 14 WHO DOES NOT KNOW WHO HE IS. If anyone can help him find his identity, please come to Desk 14.' With the folks behind him in line laughing hysterically, the man glared at the Virgin attendant, gritted his teeth and said, 'F... You!' Without flinching, she smiled and said, 'I'm sorry, sir, but you'll have to get in line for that too.'

"Well, one, I like to watch my money grow. Two, once in a while I like to play with my money. Three, I like how money feels in my hand. And, lastly, instead of you going out shopping, you can stay right here at home and blow a hundred bucks anytime you want." Larry is in the Hospital, room 233.

Random Joke :)

I received a phone call from a gorgeous ex-girlfriend who this morning called 'out-of-the-blue' to see if I was still around. We lost track of time, chatting about the wild, romantic times we used to enjoy together. I couldn't believe it when she asked if I'd be interested in meeting up and rekindling a little of that "old magic". "Wow!" I was flabbergasted. "I don't know if I could keep pace with you now", I said, "I'm a bit older and a bit greyer and balder than when you last saw me. Plus I don't really have the energy I used to have." She just giggled and said she was sure I would "Rise to the challenge". "Yeah." I said. "Just so long as you don't mind a waistline that's a few inches wider these days! Not to mention my total lack of muscle tone...everything is sagging, my teeth are a bit yellowed and I am developing jowls like a Great Dane!" She laughed and told me to stop being so silly. She teased me saying that tubby, grey haired, older men were cute, and she was sure I would still be a great lover. Anyway, she giggled and said, "I've put on a few pounds myself!" So I hung up!

BEM idiomas I move house during the middle of May, and I am actually very excited about spending much more time with a particular Spanish friend of mine. I met her almost four years ago when my daughter started school. I was so happy when we first talked and she told me she spoke a little English, especially because my daughter was the only English pupil out of 60 children in her year. At the time, I spoke no Spanish at all. However when she spoke her ‘little’ English it was a bit ropey, but I understood every word and we soon became good friends. I would like to think that being her only English friend, I have helped her to improve her English. She has certainly come on leaps and bounds and has really taken the time to learn corrections I have told her. She has, of course, tried to correct me on my Spanish too, but being a bit lazy and not really having the time, I have not been able to sit down and learn the corrections properly. However, with my move down to the coast, I have worked out that I will save myself approximately five and a half hours per week in driving time: that’s an amazing 22 hours a month! I have decided that I will use five hours of this saved time to spend

1, 2, 3, Bang!!! Women who know their place Barbara Walters, of 20/20, did a story on gender roles in Kabul, Afghanistan, several years before the Afghan conflict. She noted that women customarily walked five paces behind their husbands. She recently returned to Kabul and observed that women still walk behind their husbands. Despite the overthrow of the oppressive Taliban regime, the women now seem happy to maintain the old custom. Ms Walters approached one of the Afghani

women and asked, 'Why do you now seem happy with an old custom that you once tried so desperately to change?' The woman looked Ms Walters straight in the eyes, and without hesitation said, “Land mines.

Mind, Body & Spirit This month I’m going to talk about a condition which afflicts many people, causing considerable suffering and distress, often for much of their lives: psoriasis. Psoriasis is an acute and chronic dermatological condition causing painful skin eruptions on any part of the body including the scalp. The most common form, plaque psoriasis, appears as raised, red patches or lesions covered with a silvery white buildup of dead skin cells, called scales. These patches are extremely itchy, and secondary problems and infections can result from the almost irresistible desire to scratch them. Psoriasis often first appears in early life, and whilst it may disappear for long periods it can flare up later in life often triggered by stress of some kind. From a medical point of view, psoriasis is an auto-immune condition: the immune system sends out “faulty” signals speeding up the production and growth of new skin cells. Interestingly, this is exactly the same process by which wounds to the skin - cuts, scratches, grazes, etc, are healed; by regenerating the top layers of skin. Once the wound is healed, the process stops, but with psoriasis the process appears to have gone out of control, not knowing when to stop. However there is nothing either “faulty” or “out of control” about the behaviour of the immune system. It is evolved and programmed to protect us, to defend us against attack from external agencies, and to repair any damage sustained. In the case of psoriasis, it continues to produce a skin healing reaction because it perceives that there is an on-going wounding. As there is obviously no physical wounding, then it must be responding to a non-physical, or emotional source of attack. The skin is our physical boundary, our interface

with the outside world. It is richly supplied with sensory nerve receptors for touch, heat/cold, pain and pleasure. It lets us know how we are being treated by the world outside and the other people in it. The primary way in which a new-born baby knows it is loved is being held and caressed by loving touch. It is also where we know that we are being hurt, either physically or emotionally. From a Mind-Body perspective psoriasis is a somatic reaction to the perception of extreme emotional pain. The immune system is literally producing a “thick skin” as protection against this chronic feeling of being hurt. The causes of this hurt are usually found in very early life, and are often associated with deep feelings of rejection by a parent. As explained in an earlier article on cellular memory whilst the original cause may have ceased, the sub-conscious mind believes it is still active, and so the immune system reacts accordingly. The fact that the cause of the hurt is still, in adult life, being perceived as coming from “outside” indicates that the sufferer has still not taken responsibility for these feelings as now coming from inside. Often psoriasis sufferers project the inner feelings onto their present time relationships as a sense of rejection, unworthiness, or jealousy. Complete healing of psoriasis means getting to the root of the original feelings, taking responsibility for them in present time, and transforming them through actively loving and accepting oneself, and resolving and forgiving the past hurt and those involved. Richard Waterborn is a professional healer. His work is based on the premise that all illnesses and mental/emotional conditions can be healed from within by identifying the root causes and releasing negative energy at a cellular level. Random Joke Helpful in Tesco I was in Tesco's the other day pushing my cart around when I collided with a young man pushing his cart. I said to the young man, "Sorry about that. I'm looking for my wife and I guess I wasn't paying attention to where I was going." The young man says, "That's OK. It's a coincidence. I'm looking for my wife, too.. I can't find

her and I'm getting a little desperate. I said, "Well, maybe we can help each other. What does your wife look like?" The young man says, "Well, she is 24 years old, tall with blond hair, big blue eyes, long legs, big boobs and she's wearing tight white shorts, a halter top and no bra. What does your wife look like?" I said, "Doesn't matter --- let's look for yours."

UK. He is an accomplished organist and choirmaster, and we count ourselves very lucky to have found him. Our previous MD, Jerome Thiebault, brought the choir a long way from its formation some four years ago and introduced a wide and varied repertoire, ranging from classical Italian choral works to modern English folk tunes, with a smattering of spirituals, Spanish, German and French songs along the way. We are now looking forward to a new period in the history of the choir with Richard. Our first concert under his leadership is in the church of San Isidro, Periana at 8.30pm on Thurs 12th May. Everyone is invited to come along to hear the choir sing in this lovely village church, where there is ample parking and no charge for admission. For those who would like to sing with us, come along to one of our rehearsals on a Thurs evening at 6pm in the little church in Venta Baja. Details can be found on our website

) : a h a h s e k o J She was standing in the kitchen, preparing our usual soft-boiled eggs and toast for breakfast, wearing only the 'T' shirt that she normally slept in. As I walked in, almost awake, she turned to me and said softly, "You've got to make love to me this very moment!" My eyes lit up and I thought, "I am either still dreaming or this is going to be my lucky day!" Not wanting to lose the moment, I embraced her and then gave it my all right there and then on the kitchen table. Afterwards she said, "Thanks," and returned to the stove, her T-shirt still around her neck. Happy, but a little puzzled, I asked, "What was that all about?" She explained, "The egg timer's broken." ------------------------------------------------------------First-year students at the Vet School were attending their first anatomy class, with a real dead cow. They all gathered around the surgery table with the body covered with a white sheet. The professor started the class by telling them, "In Veterinary medicine it is necessary to have two important qualities as a doctor: the first is that you not be disgusted by anything involving the animal body". For an example, the Professor pulled back the sheet, stuck his finger in the butt of the dead cow, withdrew it and stuck his finger in his mouth. "Go ahead and do the same thing," he told his students. The students freaked out, hesitated for several minutes, but eventually took turns sticking a finger in the butt of the dead cow and sucking on it. When everyone finished, the Professor looked at them and said, "The second most important quality is observation. I stuck in my middle finger and sucked on my index finger. Now learn to pay attention. Life's tough, but it's even tougher if you're stupid.." ------------------------------------------------------------Two Red Indians and an Irishman were walking through the woods. All of a sudden one of the Red Indians ran up a hill to the mouth of a small cave. 'Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!' he

called into the cave and listened closely until he heard an answering, 'Wooooo! Wooooo! Woooooo!' He then tore off his clothes and ran into the cave. The Irishman was puzzled and asked the remaining Indian what it was all about. 'Was the other Indian crazy or what?' The Indian replied 'No, it is our custom during mating season when Indian men see cave, they holler 'Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!' into the opening. If they get an answer back, it means there's a beautiful squaw in there waiting for us.' Just then they came upon another cave. The second Indian ran up to the cave, stopped, and hollered, 'Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!' Immediately, there was the answer. 'Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!' from deep inside. He also tore off his clothes and ran into the opening. The Irishman wandered around in the woods alone for a while and then spied a third large cave. As he looked in amazement at the size of the huge opening, he was thinking, 'Hoo, man! Look at the size of this cave! It is bigger than those the Indians found. There must be some really big, fine woman in this cave!' He stood in front of the opening and hollered with all his might 'Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!' Like the others, he then heard an answering call, 'Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!’ With a gleam in his eye and a smile on his face, he raced into the cave, tearing off his clothes as he ran. The following day, the headline of the local newspaper read............. NAKED IRISHMAN RUN OVER BY TRAIN! ------------------------------------------------------------I can't believe the crazy things people do. I was sitting in church today and this person next to me lit up a cigarette! I almost dropped my beer!

Jokes h a h a :) There was this couple that had been married for 20 years. Every time they made love the husband always insisted on turning off the light. Well, after 20 years the wife felt this was ridiculous. She figured she would break him out of this crazy habit. So one night, while they were in the middle of a wild, screaming, romantic session, she turned on the lights. She looked down... and saw her husband was holding a battery-operated pleasure device... a vibrator! She went completely ballistic. 'You impotent pig ,' She screamed at him, 'How could you be lying to me all of these years? You better explain yourself!' The husband looks her straight in the eyes and says calmly: 'I'll explain the toy, you explain the kids.' ------------------------------------------------------------I was at my bank today; there was a short line. There was just one lady in front of me, an Asian lady who was trying to exchange yen for dollars. It was obvious she was a little irritated... She asked the teller, "Why it change? Yesterday, I get two hunat dolla fo yen. Today I only get hunat eighty? Why it change?" The teller shrugged his shoulders and said, "Fluctuations." The Asian lady says, "Fluc you white people too" ------------------------------------------------------------A woman goes to the doctor, beaten black and blue. The Doctor asks: "What happened?" The woman says: "Doctor, I don't know what to do. Every time my husband comes home drunk he beats me to a pulp." The Doctor says: "I have a real good cure for that. When your husband comes home drunk, just take a glass of sweet tea and start swishing it in your mouth. Just swish and swish but don't swallow until he goes to bed and is asleep." Two weeks later the woman comes back to the doctor looking fresh and reborn.

The woman says: "Doctor, that was a brilliant idea! Every time my husband came home drunk, I swished with sweet tea. I swished and swished, and he didn't touch me! How does the tea do that?" The Doctor says: "The tea does bugger all, it's keeping your mouth shut that does the trick!" ------------------------------------------------------------Two friends are fishing near a bridge. Suddenly a hearse and two funeral cars go over the bridge so one of the men stands up, takes off his cap and bows his head. When the cars have gone he puts his cap back on, sits back down and carries on fishing. His mate turns to him and says, "Dave, that's one of the nicest most respectful things I've ever seen" Dave replies, "Well we were married for nearly 20 years" ------------------------------------------------------------A Muslim was sitting next to Paddy on a plane. Paddy ordered a whisky. The stewardess asked the Muslim if he'd like a drink. He replied in disgust "I'd rather be raped by a dozen whores than let liquor touch my lips!" Paddy handed his drink back and said "Me too, I didn't know we had a choice!" ------------------------------------------------------------A long time ago, Britain and France were at war. During one battle, the French captured an English Colonel. They took him to their headquarters, and the French General began to question him. Finally, as an afterthought, the French General asked, "Why do you English officers all wear red coats? Don't you know the red material makes you easier targets for us to shoot at?" In his bland English way, the officer informed the General that the reason English officers wear red coats is so that if they are shot, the blood won't show and the men they are leading won't panic. And that is why, from that day to this, all French Army officers wear brown trousers.

s n g i S r Sta Mystic Mag deals your cards for the month of May. Capricorn – Uh oh you’re in trouble, someone’s come along and burst your bubble! Well what did you expect? You walk around with your head up your arse and your nose in the clouds. Lucky sign – Washing up liquid Aquarius – Your philosophical side is emerging and is veering completely out of control. It’s ok to think deep, but remember if you go too far you will reach the bottom. Just take it easy and be realistic, oh freaky one! Lucky sign – Gumdrops (fruity ones) Pisces – Lordy Lord! You are going to meet a red hot lover so steamy nights (and days) will become a frequent habit. Your luck has finally changed, so make the most of it while you get the chance. Nothing lasts forever, so the saying goes… Lucky sign – Marmite soldiers Aries – Spend more time around children during May, as they bring out the imaginative and creative side of you, which sometimes likes to shut itself away in the realms of your wee head. You might learn a thing or two during this phase. Lucky sign – Toys Taurus – Rows are never a pleasant way to eat your time, but you could be surrounded by them during this time. You may hate confrontations, but don’t let others get the better of you or wind you into the ground. Allow your inner force to shine through. Lucky sign – A self portrait Gemini – You are considering buying a new pet for some decent company (your spouse is beginning to do your head in). Get down the

pet shop mid month and you will fall in love with a white kitten, called Weeble. Lucky sign – Fur Cancer – A new era is beginning in your life and three paths lay ahead for you. You must trust your instincts on which to take, remembering that all will lead you into completely different situations. Personally I’d go for the third. Lucky sign – Breadcrumbs Leo – Dance if you wanna have fun. Get those special shoes on and head to the discos and bars to shake your thang…You wont regret it and you’ll have such a good time and feel as free as a bird. Lucky sign – The Rolling Stones Virgo – The travel bells are ringing at the back of your head, luring you into booking some plane tickets to far flung corners of the globe. Shop around or the rip off merchants could get you by the short and curlies! Lucky sign – Pia-Pia-Piano, Piano… Libra – Stop eating so much or you will give yourself a heart attack. You really must take a different approach to your eating habits. Lucky sign – Fast Scorpio – Credit always comes where it is due and you are owed a whole stack, which will be awarded to you via the works of the great universe. Good times are starting to roll… Lucky sign – A sudden phone call Sagittarius – You have more free time on your hands than usual, so start filling it with exciting activities and pastimes and watch life blossom to new heights. Lucky sign – A flowering bush And if it’s your Birthday this month Spring into action!
