Some of you may know this already, but for those who don’t I’m about to recite The Sentinella story…how this little mag materialised in its current form. It all started way back in the late nineties when a man called Colin Checkley launched a magazine called The Sentinel. Colin, as some of you may remember, was a man who loved to frequent the local bars and his wit, sarcasm and humour slipped down a treat with readers. However, unfortunately, in 2004 Colin was bitten by a snake while walking his dog in the mountains of Iznate. He was rushed to hospital and while there, the blood tests revealed that he had Leukaemia. Within just seven days of hearing this devastating news, Colin passed away at the age of 44. A couple of months before this tragic occurrence, I moved to Spain to join my parents. As I didn’t have a place of my own at that point I stayed with them in their apartment in Torre del Mar. I planned to move to Spain permanently, however finding a job proved very difficult. In the UK I’d trained as a journalist, copywriter and editor, so the prospect of bar or waitressing work didn’t appeal. I considered starting my own expat magazine, but I hadn’t thought about it much at this stage. My dad sometimes went to the Viva Bar in Torre del Mar to watch certain football matches, and it was there that he got chatting to Colin’s father, who broke the news of Colin’s illness and later his death. A few weeks passed before my dad suggested that I should call Colin’s dad to see if he’d agree to me taking over The Sentinel. I didn’t feel very confident about broaching this, so my dad called Colin’s father for me. My stomach tightened as I overheard the conversation. Then I heard that one word which changed my life forever… “Yes!”

The Sentinella is eternally dedicated to Colin Checkley, the founder and editor of The Sentinel Magazine. May he rest in peace. (Born; 1960 Died; 2004)

So my dad and I began traipsing around the local businesses to see if they wanted to continue advertising in the magazine with the slightly different name of The Sentinella. The first

Strange News

edition included four colour pages in the middle, while the 36 other pages were printed in black and white. Two years later the magazine had tripled in size to 120 pages per month, including a fat colour section in the centre. As time passed I got itchy feet and asked my sister and brother-in-law, Kami and Tony, if they’d like to move over to take over the day to day running of the magazine. Luckily they said yes and they do an absolutely amazing job…in fact The Sentinella has gone from strength to strength, now at 132 pages a month, plus it’s all in colour! The magazine also appears online every month on

Alligator kept as a pet to attract the ladies A US man arrested for keeping an alligator in his kitchen has told police he did it because the reptile impressed women.

Meanwhile I looked at ways to expand and I began to franchise The Sentinella to different regions of Spain. There are now five editions covering from Marbella right the way along to Mojacar. From west to east there’s the Marbella edition, the Malaga edition, the Axarquia edition (this one), the Costa Tropical edition and lastly the Mojacar edition. That’s why it’s important when you place an advert to confirm which edition you would like to appear in – many of our advertisers even place publicity in every edition! For those who are interested there are still opportunities to launch The Sentinella in the Granada, Murcia, Almeria and Gibraltar regions. I often feel that Colin, in his spirit form, has helped The Sentinella to grow and every day I express my gratitude for that, the workforce, the readers and the advertisers, all of whom have helped to make this magazine what it is. Viva The Sentinella!

Keidi Keating

Editor (of the original little mag)!

Police raided a property in Ford Heights, Illinois after receiving a tip-off that Dewayne Yarbrough, 43, had an alligator in his home. "Chicks dig it," Yarbrough reportedly told officers who found the 4ft reptile living in a fish tank in his kitchen. Officers from the animal crimes unit confiscated the alligator and it is to be given to the Chicago Herpetological Society.

Speeding roller skater A man caught on a speed camera doing 40mph in a 30mph zone has escaped prosecution - because he was on roller-skates. Sam Tuffnell, 28, was pictured setting off a camera in his home town of Hastings, East Sussex. The stunt was filmed by a friend, who posted the footage to YouTube, where it has been viewed nearly 40,000 times. Online Date Goes Wrong A Canadian man who arranged a blind date with a woman he met online had a shock when she turned out to be his girlfriend.

The woman turned up, as arranged, for the date, at a coffee shop in Barrie, Ontario, but from there things went rapidly downhill. First, she threw a cup of coffee in the man's face - then she slapped him for good measure. The 49-year-old woman was arrested by an off duty police officer who happened to be in the coffee shop. She is now awaiting a bail hearing.

ICE Update Following on from our article on page 98 in April’s edition.... The ‘ICE’ (in case of emergency) campaign is catching on fast, but it is only useful when we are back in the UK as it is not recognised in Spain. Do not despair!! We have received a call from one of our readers who has a friend who knows someone in the Ambulance service here in Spain and believe it or not, they run a similar system for road traffic accidents, etc. When he was told of ‘ICE’ he said that here in Spain they use ‘AA’ So to recap then; As mobile phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during an emergency under the name ICE' for the UK and ‘AA’ in Spain. Simply store the number of someone who you would like to be contacted in the case of an emergency and store in your phone under AA or ICE, or indeed both if you travel between the countries. Spread the word by storing an AA number in your mobile phones today! It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest.

Random Jokes Not quite PC David Cameron has announced that he intends to make it more difficult to claim benefits. From next week all the forms will be printed in English. Husband says to wife 'My Olympic condoms have arrived - I think I'll wear gold tonight'. Wife says 'Why don't you wear silver and come second for a change'.

On holiday recently in Spain I saw a sign that said 'English speaking Doctor' - I thought what a good idea, why don't we have them in England!' The lead actor in the local pantomime Aladdin was sexually abused from behind on stage last night. To be fair the audience did try to warn him.

I was driving this morning when I saw an RAC van parked up. The driver was sobbing uncontrollably and looked very miserable. I thought to myself 'That guy's heading for a breakdown'. An RAF fighter plane was flying over Afghanistan when he noticed a flying carpet on each side of his plane both with a machine gunner on board. Sensing danger he shot them down. Back at base he got a right rollocking apparently they were Allied Carpets!

Ticklers! A few rib ticklers for yer...

Santa wrote back, “Send me your Mother. What is the definition of Mistress? Someone between the Mister and Mattress. What's the difference between stress, tension and panic? Stress is when wife is pregnant, tension is when girlfriend is pregnant and panic is when both are pregnant.

I dialed a number and got the following recording: "I am not available right now, but thank you for caring enough to call. I am making some changes in my life. Please leave a message after the beep. If I do not return your call, you are one of the changes." A small Boy wrote to Santa Claus," send me a brother."

A woman asks a man who is traveling with six children, "Are all these kids yours?" The man replies, "No, I work in a condom factory and these are customer complaints". A young boy asks his Dad, "What is the difference between confident and confidential?"* Dad says, "You are my son, I'm confident about that. Your friend over there, is also my son, that's confidential."

Why Men Are Happier! Why men are never depressed

Your last name stays put.

You know stuff about tanks and engines.

The garage is all yours.

A ten-day holiday requires only one suitcase.

Chocolate is just another snack.

Your underwear is â‚Ź4.99 for a three-pack.

You can never be pregnant.

Three pairs of shoes are more than enough.

Car mechanics tell you the truth.

You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes.

You never have to drive to another petrol station restroom because this one is just too icky.

The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades.

You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt.

You only have to shave your face and neck.

Wrinkles add character. People never stare at your chest when you're talking to them.

You can 'do' your nails with a pocket knife. You have freedom of choice concerning growing a moustache.

New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle your feet.

You can do Christmas shopping for twenty five relatives on 24th December in twenty five minutes.

Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds

No wonder men are happier.

Whale On Jetski

Jetskis aren’t for everyone!

My neighbour knocked on my door at 2:30am this morning, can you believe that 2:30am?! Luckily for him I was still up playing my Bagpipes. ------------------------------------------------------------I sat on the train this morning opposite a stunning Thai girl. I kept thinking to myself, please don't get an erection, please don't get an erection... but she did. ------------------------------------------------------------Two friends are fishing near a bridge. Suddenly a Hearse and two Funeral Cars go over the bridge so one of the men stands up, takes off his cap and bows his head. When the cars have gone he puts his cap back on, sits back down and carries on fishing. His mate turns to him and says," Dave, that's one of the nicest most respectful things I've ever seen. "Dave replies," Well we were married for nearly 20 years. ------------------------------------------------------------Paddy says "Mick, I'm thinking of buying a Labrador. "Don't do that" says Mick "Have you seen how many of their owners go blind!"

Sort of gives a new meaning to the terms Low rider, high tide, and full moon! Not to mention: Crack kills!

The term “Piranha” is a derivative of two combined words “Pira” which means “fish and “ranha” or “sanha” which means “tooth.” Piranhas are characterised by their rounded head and razor-sharp teeth. They usually come in the colour silver, often with red-pigmented patches. Although piranhas are carnivorous in nature, they are actually omnivore. They primarily feed on insects, fish, snails, plants, and even larger

animals that drop on the water. They usually hunt and attack prey in large groups. Piranhas are preyed by larger animals including botos or river dolphins, turtles, larger fish, birds, and crocodiles. The average size of piranhas is 30 in centimetres length, but there are some other species that can grow up to 80 centimetres. mostly Piranhas breed in pairs in lagoons where the flow of water is quite slow. They usually breed during rainy season. Female piranhas can lay over 5,000 eggs on average. And since both male and female piranhas are protective over their offspring, about 90% of the eggs hatch successfully.

To advertise call 664 210 468 or email

Amazing Animals (Continued) Despite it's feared nature, the piranha actually has a number of predators in the wild, including humans that hunt the piranha for food. The piranhas live together in large shoals and constantly compete for food. Piranhas inhabit in freshwater of South America, particularly in the Amazon basin where the current of water is quite fast. In August 2009 a 35cm piranha was found in a river in Devon, thousands of miles from it's native home. The team that discovered the piranha were utterly bewildered as to what this tropical fish was going in a river in England but later deduced that this piranha must have been kept as a pet and then released due to the fact that it was eating sweetcorn. The Word Queen Growing Your Idea If you completed the steps in last month’s edition to feed your ideas for a book you should now have ONE glistening idea in your head – the ONE idea which is going to lead you to produce a best-selling book.

focus. Focus on something for long enough and hard enough and doors open. In the case of a small idea, it then develops into a much bigger one with little or no effort on your part – all you need to do is hold it in your mind! Eventually your little idea seeds will transform into a fully grown tree.

The next stage is to determine your characters, which will bring it to life. They are the elements with which readers associate themselves the most.

Next time we’ll consider the setting and location of your novel.

Mentally focus on your idea as much as possible throughout each day. Think about it before you go to sleep at night, and mull over it first thing in the morning. Focus is a remarkable tool. Think back to when you were a child. Did you ever play the game with the magnifying glass and the sun? When you held the magnifying glass so the sun reflected off it for a long enough period of time, the leaves underneath would start burning, right?

Psychic Medium Energy Healer

My life has become an amazing adventure in this world of psychic readings and healings. What really fascinates me is the new understanding I get while healing people; the more I heal the stronger healer I become. While giving psychic readings people tell me they feel pumped up from the inside and they walk away feeling positive, calmer, happy and stronger. My mentor told me this is a gift I always had and in a way that makes perfect sense. It was a sunny morning when I recall going to Vitamina health shop in Centro Idea, where I do readings and healings. My first client was a German lady who could not speak English. I smiled and pointed to the healing bed and as she lay down I felt an overwhelming pain in my head, which is always a good indication of where I have to heal. I scanned her body and picked up more information before the healing began. Within minutes she had fallen into a deep sleep. When I’d completed the healing I woke her up and at first she didn’t known where she was. I recommended three more healing sessions to which she replied, “No! I’m coming back four times.” This made me giggle and we kissed and said our goodbyes. Seven days later I was back at the Danish centre and greeted by Anna the owner of Vitamina. “I need to talk to you,” she said! Anna told me about the German lady I healed the week before. She had been friends of hers for over twenty years and for all that time she would just sit at home with thoughts flying around her head, sometimes for up to eight hours a day. She always found it very difficult to sleep of a night. Anna then said, “It’s a miracle. Her life changed within hours of the healing. She can now think straight and she sleeps all night, and last week she did so many jobs and had no problems doing any of them.” I feel so humbled to receive news like this. At the last two mind, body and spirit shows, of all the sixty-two people who had healing, at least thirty of them left without paying and eventually came back to say they were sorry! They where in a state of shock after the healing…in a good way! So next time you feel run down or have trouble sleeping due to thousands of thoughts racing in your mind, remember maybe just maybe a healer could help… Until next time my friends may you walk lighter and feel great happiness.

Think ‘Triangle Of Life’ Where to go during an earthquake

but leave a void next to it.

Remember that stuff about hiding under a table or standing in a doorway? Well, forget it! This is a real eye opener. It could save your life someday.

3) Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction to be in during an earthquake. Wood is flexible and moves with the force of the earthquake. If the wooden building does collapse, large survival voids are created. Also, the wooden building has less concentrated, crushing weight. Brick buildings will break into individual bricks. Bricks will cause many injuries but less squashed bodies than concrete slabs.

Doug Copp is a Rescue Chief and Disaster Manager of the American Rescue Team International (ARTI ), the world's most experienced rescue team. The information in this article will save lives in an earthquake. Doug has crawled inside 875 collapsed buildings, worked with rescue teams from 60 countries, founded rescue teams in several countries, and is a member of many rescue teams from many countries. The first building he ever crawled inside of was a school in Mexico City during the 1985 earthquake. Every child was under its desk. Every child was crushed to the thickness of their bones. They could have survived by lying down next to their desks in the aisles. It was obscene -- unnecessary. When buildings collapse, the weight of the ceilings falling upon the objects or furniture inside and crushes these objects, leaving a space next to them - NOT under them. This space is what he calls the 'triangle of life'. The larger the object, the stronger, the less it will compact. The less the object compacts, the larger the void, the greater the probability that the person who is using this void for safety will not be injured. The next time you watch collapsed buildings, on television, count the 'triangles' you see formed. They are everywhere. It is the most common shape, you will see, in a collapsed building. tiPs FOr EarthqUakE saFEty 1) Almost everyone who simply 'ducks and covers' when buildings collapse are crushed to death. People who get under objects, like desks or cars, are crushed. 2) Cats, dogs and babies often naturally curl up in the fetal position. You should too in an earthquake. It is a natural safety/survival instinct. You can survive in a smaller void. Get next to an object, next to a sofa, next to a bed, next to a large bulky object that will compress slightly

4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake occurs, simply roll off the bed. A safe void will exist around the bed. Hotels can achieve a much greater survival rate in earthquakes, simply by posting a sign on the back of the door of every room telling occupants to lie down on the floor, next to the bottom of the bed during an earthquake. 5) If an earthquake happens and you cannot easily escape by getting out the door or window, then lie down and curl up in the fetal position next to a sofa, or large chair. 6) Get near the outer walls of buildings or outside of them if possible - It is much better to be near the outside of the building rather than the interior. The farther inside you are from the outside perimeter of the building the greater the probability that your escape route will be blocked. 7) People inside of their vehicles are crushed when the road above falls in an earthquake and crushes their vehicles. The victims of the San Francisco earthquake all stayed inside of their vehicles. They were all killed. They could have easily survived by getting out and sitting or lying next to their vehicles. Everyone killed would have survived if they had been able to get out of their cars and sit or lie next to them. All the crushed cars had voids 3 feet high next to them, except for the cars that had columns fall directly across them. 8) I discovered, while crawling inside of collapsed newspaper offices and other offices with a lot of paper, that paper does not compact. Large voids are found surrounding stacks of paper..

Arenas is on the Mudéjar route. It is situated east of Vélez-Málaga at 416 metres, under the ruins of the Moorish Bentomiz Fortress whose origin goes back to the Iberian era. It was occupied and modified by the Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans and is considered one of the three most important Muslim bastions in the Axarquía along with the castles of Comares and Zalia. Today you can still find some dungeons, wall fragments and towers. In 1487 King Ferdinand the Catholic set up camp here to prepare for the siege and subsequent conquest of Vélez-Málaga and the town became know as Arenas del Rey (Arenas of the King). As you drive from Vélez-Málaga along the winding road the terrain is notably less rugged than in other parts of the region with gentle hills full of almonds, olives and vines and of course new white villas built by foreigners who have made this area their home. As you round the last bend there is now a brand new gym equipment on the left hand side, to encourage the villagers to keep fit. At the entrance to the village the town hall stands proudly in front of you like a gateway, its flags fluttering in the breeze

and as you go round the corner you can park outside the bar on the left and sample its delightful cuisine, the menu del dia being particularly good! Walking up from the road there is a colourful plaque with pictures of Arena´s most popular event, the Mule Fair which takes place in mid October and celebrates the animals virtues with branding and herding exhibitions as well as races, verdiales, food sampling and much more. From here flights of steps to the left and right lead to little squares with walls full of flowers and colourful pots. There are three distinct areas to the village, Barrio Alto where Blacksmiths, craftsmen and ceramists live, Barrio Bajo the more humble area and finally the Urban Centre with the 12th century churchmosque of Santa Catalina which was burnt to a cinder on the night of November 13th 1926 when a candle was left burning after a christening ceremony. The only part of the church that survived was the minaret but even that had to have a part removed because of the danger of it collapsing. The reconstruction took 4 years from 1941 to 1944 and the church celebrated its 500th anniversary in 2005. When walking through the village make sure to wear sensible shoes as its easy to slip on the steep concrete slopes, carry a bottle of water to quench the thirst you will build up as you get lost in its maze of streets and a camera to capture the secrets that each new twist and turn reveals. Famous for - Having probably the strongest football team of any African nation. interesting Facts - The name Cameroon is derived from "camaroes", the Portuguese word for prawns. The use of this name for the country was a reference to the availability of the shellfish. During the First World War British and French troops forced Germans to leave the country. Following the War administration of Cameroon was divided between the British (twenty percent) and the French (eighty percent). In 1986 over two thousand people died when lethal gas escaped from Lake Nyos, a volcanic lake. Tourist literature describes Cameroon as "Africa in miniature" because it exhibits all major climates and vegetation of the continent: coast, desert, mountains, rainforest, and savanna.

Mardi Gras

Benamargosa – a typical white Andalucian village. For all it’s beauty, character and history, one wouldn’t associate it for fine cuisine. Until now anyway!

Nestled up in the centre of the town is a bar in the square by the name of Bar Plaza and the kitchen has been taken over by a lady called Audrey, who is a great artist, author and now it appears, a great chef!! She has gone into the bar with all guns blazing, gave the lounge a lick of paint and a general spruce up and blitzed the kitchen in order to realise her vision of serving culinary delights. The doors opened on 29th April and there was a good throng of hungry people all eagerly awaiting for their tastebuds to be titillated. From the menu there was an array of eastern and western dishes, from Thai to Mexican, I couldn’t wait! For starters we ordered the Fresh Corriander soup, Thai fish cakes in sweet chilli, homemade liver pate and nachos – not a bad selection. My choice out of these were the fish

cakes, they were superb, cooked to perfection and married with the dip divinely. For mains we had Thai Green Curry of Seafood & sticky rice and the Tagliatelle with fresh asparagus. The curry was absolutely fantastic! A generous array of mixed seafood in a spicy creamy sauce. It was packed with flavour and the rice was genuinely sticky! Fabby! Other items on the menu included “Black & Blue Burger”, “Bunny Chow” Beef Curry and from the Specials board, Red Hot Thai Jungle Curry of Duck and a Lime and Garlic Stir Fry Prawns. Audrey has struck upon a potentially great concept and is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings but not forgetting her fabulous Sunday Roast for just 5€. Since writing this article, I have been back a few times and Audrey has gone on in leaps and bounds! I can quite safely say that she now is a specialist in Asian cuisine. It’s different, daring, delightful and above all it’s well worth a visit!! See main advert below

ra a p Pa Profile

Name: Colin Andrew Firth Birthday: 10th September, 1960 age: 50 sign: Virgo Birthplace: Grayshott, Hampshire, England Facts about Colin Firth - This shouldn't come as a surprise, but Colin Firth was named as one of the fifty most beautiful people in 2001. While Colin Firth played Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones Diary, he actually appeared in the sequel of the book. The author actually wrote Colin Firth into the book. Colin Firth has actually played the part of Mr. Darcy on three different occasions. In fact, he was Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, Bridget Jones Diary, and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. Colin Firth's first child, Will, was born in 1990 to his previous girlfriend Meg Tilly. He later married Livia Giuggioli and his second child Luca was born in 2001. His third child, Mateo was born in 2003. While many women may find the name Colin sexy, the actor isn't too crazy about his name. In fact he had this to say about his first name, "Well it doesn't exactly have a ring to it, does it? It's more the sort of name you'd give to your goldfish for a joke." In the DVD audio commentary for "Love Actually," Hugh Grant continuously mocks the looks, age, acting abilities, and alleged vanity of Firth (his sometimes on-screen rival), eventually encouraging his fellow-commentators writer/director Richard Curtis, and co-stars Bill Nighy and Thomas Sangster to join in on the

mocking. Firth appears to have taken these comments in good nature and said that he and Grant seem to have a "Bette Davis-Joan Crawford" kind of relationship. According to Colin Firth, when he was first offered the role of Darcy, his brother incredulously remarked, "Darcy? But isn't he supposed to be sexy?" Although he usually gets along quite well with other actors, he had a well-publicised verbal feud with Rupert Everett, although the source of this tension is not known. Colin had a relationship with Jennifer Ehle, whom he met while filming "Pride and Prejudice" (1995) He was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) in Stratford Upon Avon, England, during the early to mid 80s where his stage credits include such works as Hamlet and King Lear. Colin has twice lost his screen wife to a member of the Fiennes family - to Ralph in The English P a t i e n t (1996) and to Joseph in S h a k e speare in Love (1998).

Film iew RevThor Thor is something of a misfit among misfits in the Marvel universe. Most of his superhero brethren came by their great powers accidentally, or at least coincidentally. Thor’s backstory is backwards in comparison. As introduced by director Kenneth Branagh, he is already an all-powerful prince of a realm called Asgard.

brief introduction to Natalie Portman’s character, a physicist with an interest in EinsteinRosen bridges, we are catapulted back to tenth-century Norway and a grand battle between the frost giants and Odin’s warriors, after whom the Vikings would soon model themselves. Much later, Thor decides to reignite this cold war with an unauthorized visit to the frost giant’s realm, Jotunheim. Odin, furious at his son’s mercenary streak, strips the lad of his magic hammer and banishes him to Earth.

Thor and Loki are the sons of Odin, who amiably informs them as children: “Only one of you can ascend to the throne, but both of you were born to be kings.”

The action shifts back and forth from the halls of Asgard to the deserts of New Mexico. In the former, Thor’s brother (Tom Hiddleston) is plotting to take over the realm, while Thor’s posse frets about how to reinstate him.

The film gets off to a lumbering start. After a

Salmon Fish Cakes ingredients 85g stale wholemeal bread Approx. 600g cooked wild salmon Approx. 300g cooked potatoes, mashed without milk and butter Handful of flat leaf parsley, chopped 2 eggs, beaten 3-4 tbsp vegetable oil or olive oil Freshly ground salt and black pepper Crème fraîche tartare, to serve Method 1. Preheat the oven to 150°C / gas mark 2. 2. Cut the bread into small squares and place on a baking tray. Put in the oven for 15 minutes until dried out. Tip into a food processor and whiz to make crumbs. 3. Roughly mash the salmon with the potato, so it still has coarse textured flakes and is not a homogenous purée. Mix in the parsley and

season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. 4. Shape the mixture into twelve flat cakes, about 2cm thick. Place them on a large plate and cover with cling film. Leave in the fridge for an hour or two to firm up, or longer if convenient. 5. Tip the beaten eggs onto a large flat plate, and spread the dried breadcrumbs on another. Dip the fishcakes first in the egg, turning to coat both sides, then in the breadcrumbs making sure the sides are well crumbed too. Place the coated cakes on a third large plate. 6. Heat a shallow film of oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add the fishcakes, in batches if necessary, and fry for 4 minutes or so on each side until golden brown. Drain on paper towel. 7. Serve with a dollop of Crème Fraîche Tartare.

Problem Page Why there aren’t many male Agony Aunts… Dear walter: I hope you can help me here. The other day I set off for work leaving my husband in the house watching the TV as usual. I hadn't gone more than a mile down the road when my engine conked out and the car shuddered to a halt. I walked back home to get my husband's help. When I got home I couldn't believe my eyes. He was in the bedroom with a neighbour lady making mad passionate love to her. I am 32, my husband is 34 and we have been married for twelve years. When I confronted him, he broke down and admitted that he'd been having an affair for the past six months. I told him to stop or I would leave him. He was let go from his job six months ago and he says

he has been feeling increasingly depressed and worthless. I love him very much, but ever since I gave him the ultimatum he has become increasingly distant. I don't feel I can get through to him anymore. Can you please help? sincerely, sheila Dear sheila: A car stalling after being driven a short distance can be caused by a variety of faults with the engine. Start by checking that there is no debris in the fuel line. If it is clear, check the jubilee clips holding the vacuum pipes onto the inlet manifold. If none of these approaches solves the problem, it could be that the fuel pump itself is faulty, causing low delivery pressure to the carburetor float chamber. I hope this helps. walter

Veggie Patch It has all been happening at our vegetable plot throughout the month of May! Unfortunately neither Kami nor I made it there for a whole week – a week which involved fullblown sunshine every day. Needless to say, our poor tomato plants perished from the heat and a lack of water. The intention is to plant some more soon, when we get around to it! The vegetables also fell victim to the perils of acid rain at one point this month, so our lettuces began to look a little withered! The good news is that we’ve been able to pick a number of vegetables this month, including spring onions, prize-winning beetroots (as big as our heads), lettuces and cabbages. I felt incredibly

excited to boil a beetroot for the first time…one I picked was so big that it did me for five whole days! The heavy rains we had also helped the weeds to grow to record heights, with thorns and all…so we didn’t have much fun picking them all. On the one hand we can’t wait for the rains to stop, but on the other hand that means more sunshine, which means more watering work! But it’s all fun and we’re still enjoying the trials and tribulations of tending to our veggies... Keep reading next month to see how our tomato and pepper plants are doing…! Photo; Kami with our first cabbage!

Readers Writes Dear Editor, I read with interest the mixed paella recipe in the May issue of your excellent magazine but noticed at the end it state that any mussels or clams that have not opened after cooking should be discarded, I do not know about clams but I wonder if you are aware that this a myth about mussels which has been continued by most cookery book writers since Jane Gregson wrote in her cookery book in 1973, that after cooking any unopened mussels should be discarded. Prior to this date it was never printed in any cookery book, not even LAROUSSE GASTRONOMIQUE in 1965 or ITALIAN FOOD by Elizabeth David in 1966. Nick Ruello a New Zealand mussel expert and fisheries biologist conducted a survey for Seafood Services Australia and his enquiries revealed that all the cookery book writers he contacted merely copied what other writers had written and made no enquiries of their own so the myth grew unchecked.

While conducting this survey he cooked and ate many mussels and found that those which were still closed after cooking were perfectly safe to eat and if cooked for a little longer most actually opened. I have cooked and eated mussels, even those that had to be forced open after cooking and have suffered no ill effects. Due to this unchecked myth it is estimated that in 2008 about 370 tonnes of mussels worth about $3m was wasted. John McLean Thanks very much for your feedback, now let’s start enjoying some of those 370 tonnes of wasted mussels - if you can get them open!!

Warning! On the Ellen show, Sheryl Crow said that this is what caused her breast cancer. It has been identified as the most common cause of high levels of dioxin in breast cancer tissue. Sheryl Crow's Oncologist told her: Women should not drink bottled water that has been left in a car.

He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating food in the microwave using plastic containers This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat and plastic releases dioxin into the food.

The heat reacts with the chemicals in the plastic of the bottle which releases dioxin into the water. Dioxin is a toxin increasingly found in breast cancer tissue. Use a stainless steel canteen or a glass bottle instead of plastic !

Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same result, but without the dioxin. So, such things as TV dinners, instant soups, etc., should be removed from their containers and heated in something else.

Other information about plastics. this information is also circulated at walter reed army Medical Centre.

He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the styrene foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons ...

No plastic containers in microwaves. No plastic water bottles in freezers. No plastic wrap in microwaves Dioxin chemical causes cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to cells in our bodies. Don't freeze plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Cling film, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.

Satellite TV “I am not getting all the channels!” Whilst generally any type of dish will do, there are some very important rules to adhere to in order to ensure near-perfect reception from your UK TV. Firstly, choose a minimum size, and in this case never less than 1.2 metres in diameter. There are smaller dishes but reception is compromised and they never receive all the channels. The shape of the dish is very important and any defects – ie dents, warping, distortions of the shape – alters the focal point of the LNB on the dish. Any damage to the LNB support arm will have a similar effect. It may appear there is only one frequency to look at when you point a dish at a satellite – there are some 30 satellites to choose from!– but Astra 2 and Eurobird send down from their transponders 93 differing frequencies, each carrying a collection of TV channels. The LNB (that “thing” which looks at the dish) has two antennas in it and they look at the vertical and horizontal channels, so its position is critical. This is known as the “skew”. What can have an effect on reception? Well, rain running down the face of the dish will alter the reflective surface and cause loss of signal. (And no...putting yoghurt cartons on the LNB

will not work!) Also, the dish needs to be illuminated fully from the satellite, so any shrubs, trees, pot plants need to be kept well out of the way. There is a definite marriage between receiver and LNB used. There are also several Sky receivers which do not work well in Spain. This also accounts for some very poor quality LNBs brought from the UK. Sky and FreeSat use different CUSTOM CARRIERS: these are the frequencies which deliver the box information and operating instructions. Some LNBs and dishes do not look at these frequencies correctly. Therefore, if you see “No satellite signal being received” or “Invalid postcode” you are not using a good LNB, or it is incorrectly aligned. You may also find you lose channels over a period of time. Sky Plus and Sky Plus HD: remember, before buying one of these boxes, a monthly paid contract with Sky is required in order to use the recording facility. This is switched on by the satellite. They will not operate with free to air white cards. FreeSat: Record at any time with No Card, No Subscription, No Contract. Article submitted by Sat.CO – see main advert below.

BEM idiomas This month I have chosen to speak about ‘spelling.’ In Spanish the word is ‘ortografía.’ My daughter, aged six and a half, has brought home her first spelling test from school. The test was from her English lesson. She can read very well in English and I have tried a few simple spelling tests with her in the past: words such as cat, dog, red, man etc. They are all words which are simply spelled as they sound when read aloud in English. Then I tried a few harder ones such as house, bathroom and garden, but with answers such as haus, burfrum and gurdun it soon became obvious that this was not going to be an easy hurdle to jump. With her being the only English child in her year, you can imagine the pressure we had to ensure the 50 or so other children did not show us up! The spelling test consisted of the numbers one to ten, colours and some parts of the body. I thought the best way to approach this was to ask her to spell all the words and see which ones she got correct. Sadly, out of 27 words, only two were correct. I now had the task of teaching her in just three days how to spell them all. We went over and over and over them. I was beginning to feel a bit like a parrot! We had some funny and memorable moments along the way, though, for example: two = tu, four = forge, eight = eit, yellow = yilough, green = grin, ears = irs, face = fasa etc.. You can imagine my horror when I marked them again after we had repeated them time and time again but still only two were correct. It really is quite difficult to spell in English,

whereas Spanish is totally the opposite. How you say the word is how you spell it. So as long as you know your alphabet – which is easily taught – then you will easily spell correctly and then be able to read much better too. For example: casa – ca-sa (house) or conejo – cone-jo (rabbit). There are a few exceptions but again, they are easily learned, such as 'll' pronounced as ‘y’ like in amarillo – am-a-ri-llo. So if you have been thinking about learning Spanish but it’s the general conversation part that worries you, then at least have a go at the reading and writing side of it to start with. This may build your confidence ready for conversational classes in either a group or one-to-one. Mind, Body & Spirit A subject I am often asked about is that of psychic attack and its close relation, energy drainage (also more dramatically known as energy vampirism). In this day and age of rational materialism, there is a tendency to ridicule or disparage such things, treating them as “psychological” (ie you’re making it up!) However I can assure you that such things can and do happen. Beyond our physical bodies, we are primarily energy beings and as such we are subject to fundamental laws of energy, the most basic of which is that energy is transferable from one location to another without a physical connection being necessary. Think of your mobile phone or wireless internet: your voice, your image, your thoughts and feelings can be conveyed over vast distances with no intermediary cable or other hardware. In the same way we can “receive” transmissions of negative energy from another person or persons which may be personally directed or a more general “broadcast” that we happen to intercept. Symptoms vary considerably, both in type and intensity, and can range from a fairly mild sense of disquiet, a niggling feeling of inner disharmony, of being “out of sorts” to a full-on episode of both mental and emotional attack with inexplicable negative and aggressive thoughts and feelings directed at oneself. In extreme cases, the attack may take on a physical dimension as if actually being attacked, or feeling compelled towards some kind of self-harming behaviour. Energy drainage is the opposite situation where, after being in contact with a particular person, we feel weak, tired, lacking in energy, often with accompanying feelings of irritation or

anger. This is because we have indeed been literally drained of our own energy whilst the other person goes away feeling energised or “fed.” Such people employ unconscious strategies to tap into another person’s energy, usually by engaging sympathy for themselves in long conversations which are all about them and their hard luck and misfortune. This elicits the desire to give: help; advice; sympathy; practical assistance…… and this is what opens the tap and pulls your energy to them. Not surprisingly, I am often asked: “How can I protect myself?” from such effects. There is a spiritual truth which says: “If I defend myself I am attacked,” ie if we give a lot of attention (energy) to protection, we actually invite attack. We can only be attacked if somewhere deep in our minds we believe we are somehow vulnerable, weak or possibly deserve it. Likewise, we can only be drained of energy if we have a corresponding inner feeling or belief that we do not fully “own” ourselves, that others can and do invade our space and take from us. This recognition in turn leads us to heal the underlying issues which have been brought to our attention by the attack or drain. The healing in turn allows us to more fully love and accept ourselves; this state of unconditional love is the strongest protection we could possibly have. Richard Waterborn is a professional healer. His work is based on the premise that all illnesses and mental/emotional conditions can be healed from within by identifying the root causes and releasing negative energy at a cellular level. Association for Protection of Animals - Rincon de la Victoria URGENT NEWS - This year has been particularly troublesome as the number of abandoned dogs continues to increase. Unfortunately, the number of people willing to adopt or foster a dog has not improved and therefore, our dogs are staying longer at the refuge. At the moment, our refuge is filled to maximum capacity and we simply do not have room for any more dogs. Having too many dogs becomes a safety issue as it creates a very dangerous situation for our dogs. In light of this, we regrettably cannot accept any more dogs until further notice. We are in desperate need of people willing to adopt or foster a dog as this would make room at the refuge for other dogs. If you are interested in adopting or fostering a dog, call Pam 952 51 46 71

) : a h a h s e k o J A lady about 8 months pregnant got on a bus. She noticed the man opposite her was smiling at her. She immediately moved to another seat. This time the smile turned into a grin, so she moved again. The man seemed more amused. When on the fourth move, the man burst out laughing. She complained to the driver and he had the man arrested. The case came up in court. The judge asked the man (about 20 years old) What he had to say for himself. The man replied, 'Well your Honour, it was like this: When the lady got on the bus, I couldn't help but notice her condition. She sat down under a sign that said, 'The Double Mint Twins are coming' and I grinned. Then she moved and sat under a sign that said, 'Logan's Liniment will reduce the swelling,' and I had to smile. Then she placed herself under a deodorant sign that said, 'William's Big Stick Did the Trick,' and I could hardly contain myself. But, Your Honour, when she moved the fourth time and sat under a sign that said, 'Goodyear Rubber could have prevented this Accident!' ... I just lost it.' 'CASE DISMISSED!!' ------------------------------------------------------------Ralph and Edna were both patients in a mental hospital. One day while they were walking past the hospital swimming pool,Ralph suddenly jumped into the deep end. He sank to the bottom of the pool and stayed there. Edna promptly jumped in to save him. She swam to the bottom and pulled him out. When the Head Nurse Director became aware of Edna's heroic act she immediately ordered her to be discharged from the hospital, as she now considered her to be mentally stable. When she went to tell Edna the news she said, 'Edna, I have good news and bad news. The good news is you're being discharged, since you were able to rationally respond to a crisis

by jumping in and saving the life of the person you love.... I have concluded that your act displays sound mindedness. The bad news is, Ralph hung himself in the bathroom with his bathrobe belt right after you saved him. I am so sorry, but he's dead.' Edna replied, 'He didn't hang himself, I put him there to dry..How soon can I go home?' ------------------------------------------------------------An Australian tour guide was showing a group of American tourists the Top End. On their way to Kakadu he was describing the abilities of the Australian Aborigine to track man or beast over land, through the air, under the sea. The Americans were incredulous. Later in the day, the tour rounded a bend on the highway and discovered, lying in the middle of the road, an Aborigine. He had one ear pressed to the white line whilst his left leg was held high in the air. The tour stopped and the guide and the tourists gathered around the prostrate Aborigine. "Jacky," said the tour guide, "what are you tracking and what are you listening for?" The aborigine replied, "Down the road about 25 miles is a 1971 Baliant Ute. It's a red one.. The left pront tyre is bald. The pront end is out of whack, and him got bloody dents in every panel.. There are 9 black fellas in the back, all drinking warm sherry. There are 3 kangaroos on the roof rack and 6 dogs on the front seat." The American tourists moved forward, astounded by this precise and detailed knowledge. "God man, how do you know all that?," asked one. The Aborigine replied.........I fell out off the pucken ting about half an hour ago!". ------------------------------------------------------------A friend of mine just started his own business. He manufactures landmines that look like prayer mats. It's doing well. He says prophets are going through the roof.

Jokes h a h a :) Hung Chow calls into work and says, “So solly, I no come work today, I really sick. Got headache, stomach ache and legs hurt, I no come work.” The boss says, “You know something, Hung Chow, I really need you today. When I feel sick like you do, I go to my wife and tell her to give me sex. That makes everything better and I go to work. You try that.” Two hours later Hung Chow calls again. “I do what you say and I feel great. I be at work soon..........You got nice house!!” ------------------------------------------------------------After a long night of making love, the young guy rolled over, pulled out a cigarette from his jeans and searched for his lighter. Unable to find it, he asked the girl if she had one at hand. “There might be some matches in the top drawer,” she replied. He opened the drawer of the bedside table and found a box of matches sitting neatly on top of a framed picture of another man. Naturally, the guy began to worry. “Is this your husband?” he inquired nervously. “No, silly,” she replied, snuggling up to him. “Your boyfriend then?” he asked. “No, not at all,” she said, nibbling away at his ear. “Well, who is he then?” demanded the bewildered guy. Calmly, the girl replied, “That’s me before the operation. ------------------------------------------------------------It was time for Father John's Saturday night bath, and the young nun, Sister Magdalene, had prepared the bath water and towels just the way the old nun had instructed. Sister Magdalene was also instructed not to look at Father John's nakedness if she could help it, do whatever he told her to do,and pray. The next morning the old nun asked Sister Magdalene how the Saturday night bath had gone. "Oh, sister," said the young nun dreamily, "I've been saved."

"Saved!!" And how did that come about?" asked the old nun. "Well, when Father John was soaking in the tub, he asked me to wash him, and while I was washing him he guided my hand down between his legs where he said the Lord keeps the Key to Heaven." "Did he now?" said the old nun frostily. Sister Magdalene continued, "And Father John said that if the Key to Heaven fits my lock, the portals of Heaven would be opened to me and I would be assured salvation and eternal peace. And then Father John guided his Key to Heaven into my lock." "Is that a fact?" said the old nun even more frostily. "At first it hurt terribly, but Father John said the pathway to salvation was often painful and that the glory of God would soon swell my heart with ecstasy. And it did, it felt so good being saved." "That wicked old bastard" said the old nun. "He told me it was Gabriel's Horn, and I've been blowing it for 40 years." ------------------------------------------------------------Last Wednesday a passenger in a taxi heading for Salford station leaned over to ask the driver a question and gently tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. The driver screamed, lost control of the cab, nearly hit a bus, drove up over the curb and stopped just inches from a large plate glass window. For a few moments everything was silent in the cab. Then, the shaking driver said, "Are you OK? I'm so sorry, but you scared the daylights out of me." The badly shaken passenger apologised to the driver and said, "I didn't realize that a mere tap on the shoulder would startle someone so badly." The driver replied, "No, no, I'm the one who is sorry. It's entirely my fault. Today is my very first day driving a cab. I've been driving a hearse for the past 25 years."

s n g i S r Sta Mystic Mag bites into your June for a flavour of what’s going to occur… Capricorn – Don’t put all your eggs in one basket or else they could crack and that will leave you feeling sad and yolky. Lucky sign – A bucket Aquarius – Opportunities come few and far behind in this life, but one has just popped its head up and it is shouting in your ear. Choosing to ignore it will prove a bad move. Lucky sign – Chess Pisces – Screaming and tantrum throwing will get you nowhere. Try speaking calmly and collectively. Be cool and it will pay off. Lucky sign – Breeze Aries – Love looks set to thrive this month and it will grow so very high. Remember though, that it is important to keep love watered and weeded. Lucky sign – A rose Taurus – Cleaning is a necessary chore in life, but don’t go overboard. There are much finer things you can enjoy, without a mop in your hand. Lucky sign – Dust Gemini – Eve ate the poisoned apple. At the moment you are being tested with a naughty temptation that is morally wrong. Consider the Bible teachings before you take the plunge. Lucky sign – Prayer

Cancer – Puddings taste so very delish but if you want to lose some pounds, stuffing truck loads of them in your mouth, won’t do the trick. Try substituting sweet food with fruit. Lucky sign – Greengrocers Leo – You are going to have one smooth month. There are simply no creases or crinkles in your June. It has been ironed well. Enjoy it, but be realistic and note that not all months pass so trouble free. Lucky sign – Steam presser Virgo – It’s time to face the music and dance. Lucky sign – Disco lights Libra – There’s nothing more important in this life than your health, so watch your energy levels this month. We all have reserves and it is important not to overdo it. Lucky sign – A sign Sagittarius – If you want to succeed you must sow the necessary seeds. Don’t expect things to happen without some serious gardening… Lucky sign – Tall grass If it is your Birthday this month… Jump and down with joy as someone is going to organise a surprise bouncy castle party for you (well it was a surprise but ooops, not anymore…!)
