Today, where I am in the world (Idaho, USA), it’s snowing, would you Adam and Eve! It’s the end of June, I’m writing this editorial only days before the July issue goes to print, and I’m shocked at the unwelcome sight of little white snowflakes drifting down from the sky! Just hours before this sudden appearance of a bad case of ‘Universal Dandruff,’ it was 80 degrees outside, and the temperature has suddenly plummeted to freezing… weird! It has made me realise that Idaho weather is not for me. I tolerated cold weather for long enough in the UK, and then relished the warmth of Spain for 9 years, so a move is definitely on the cards. We have a few options of where to move to next, but let’s just say it’ll be a place where there’s warm weather all year round – Halleluiah! Tomorrow, here in Idaho it’s forecast to return to temperatures of 80 degrees, so I’m feeling all discombobulated and confused, unsure whether to don my summer clothes or my winter clobber! I’d previously planned to be back in España by now, however life events keep preventing me from booking the flight, so it’s now in my calendar for September and October. In July I have a seminar to attend, which is very exciting, and part of the training for the new business that I’m setting up. I’m still staying true to The Sentinella too, though :)

Since arriving in the USA I feel like my mind and consciousness has expanded beyond belief, and I’m beginning to see so many opportunities. They really are all around, we just need to believe in them and then open ourselves up enough to see them. The next step is taking action and staying determined to succeed.

There are still people who claim the economy is bad and that there is a ‘crisis’ going on. Personally, that word has been eliminated from my vocabulary (apart from this article as I need it to illustrate the point)! It’s just so negative and doom-laden, and if we remember that we hold true in our minds becomes our reality, then that’s a big enough reason to avoid using the word, or buying into the belief system that so many people currently hold. Everything we allow to enter into our thoughts becomes manifest in our world, and it’s entirely our responsibility and no one else’s. I’ll leave you to think about that…while you lie in the sun, no doubt! PS. Copies of The Light: A Book of Wisdom are now available at the Pasatiempo book store in Torre del Mar – be quick before they sell out! PPS. Happy news to report as my niece and Kami and Tony’s daughter, Charli Knight, recently won bronze medal in her group for the Gymnasia Ritmica competition for Andalucia. Turn to page 66 to read the article and see the photo! Congratulations Charli!

Strange News Botched Surgery - A man who claims he lost an inch off his penis because his injury was misdiagnosed is suing a hospital for £90,000 for causing negligence and “indescribable anguish”. He said he first injured his penis while having sex with his wife in July 2011 and was rushed to hospital where a nurse “made a brief visual inspection of the penis without touching it.” A urologist who was not present at the hospital advised over the phone that the man had suffered a “minor trauma” and he was sent home without undergoing a physical examination, according to the lawsuit. But the man, who is paraplegic, claims he was left unable to have sex and three months later was informed that he had actually suffered a fractured penis and would require surgery. He says the procedure caused him to lose an inch from the length of his penis and left a permanent scar. The man, who comes from Quebec in Canada, also alleges the operation at Le Gardeur hospital in Montreal caused the breakdown of his marriage as he was unable to have sex for two years. He said: “This has caused a greater impact on my life than when I lost the use of my legs." Saturday Fright Fever - Miriam Burbank was always the life and soul of the party – and her family made sure she still was as loved-ones said their final farewells by giving the 53-yearold a disco-themed funeral. Following her death on June 1, Miriam's two daughters asked the funeral director if it would be possible to display their mum's body surrounded by the things she loved – beer, whisky, cigarettes and a disco. And to honour Miriam’s love of her hometown American football team, the New Orleans Saints, her fingernails were painted black and gold – the colour of the Saints' kit. Miriam's daughters insisted that other family members liked the idea and thought it was a very fitting goodbye. Zymora Kimball said of her mum, who friends called Mae-Mae: "She gets down, 53. She’s not a normal 53. I didn’t want her to just go. So I had to do something amazing. So she’s never forgotten.”

How Old Is Grandma? Stay with this -- the answer is at the end. It will blow you away. One evening a grandson was talking to his grandmother about current events. The grandson asked his grandmother what she thought about the shootings at schools, the computer age, and just things in general. The Grandmother replied, "Well, let me think a minute, I was born before: Television, penicillin, polio shots, frozen foods, Xerox, contact lenses, frisbees and the pill. There were no: Credit cards, laser beams or ball-point pens. Man had not yet invented: Pantyhose, air conditioners, dishwashers, clothes dryers and the clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air and man hadn't yet walked on the moon. Your Grandfather and I got married first, and then lived together. Every family had a father and a mother. Until I was 25, I called every man older than me, "Sir." And after I turned 25, I still called policemen and every man with a title, "Sir." We were before gay-rights, computer-dating, dual careers, daycare centers, and group therapy. Our lives were governed by the Ten Commandments, good judgment, and common sense. We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong and to stand up and take responsibility for our actions. Serving your country was a privilege; living in this country was a bigger privilege. Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your cousins. Time-sharing meant time the family spent together in the evenings and weekends -not purchasing condominiums. We never heard of FM radios, tape decks,

CD's, electric typewriters, yogurt or guys wearing earrings. We listened to Big Bands on our radios. And I don't ever remember any kid blowing his brains out listening to Tommy Dorsey. If you saw anything with 'Made in Japan ' on it, it was junk. The term 'making out' referred to how you did on your school exam. Pizza Hut, McDonald's, and instant coffee were unheard of. We had 5 &10-cent stores where you could actually buy things for 5 and 10 cents. Ice-cream cones, phone calls, rides on a streetcar, and a Pepsi were all 5 cents And if you didn't want to splurge, you could spend your 5 cents on enough stamps to mail 1 letter and 2 postcards. You could buy a new Ford Coupe for $600, but who could afford one? Too bad, because petrol was 4 cents a litre In my day:

"Grass" was mowed, "Coke" was a cold drink, "Pot" was something your mother cooked in and "Rock music" was your grandmother's lullaby. "Aids" were helpers in the Principal's office, "Chip" meant a piece of wood, "Hardware" was found in a hardware store and "Software" wasn't even a word. And we were the last generation to actually believe that a lady needed a husband to have a baby. No wonder people call us "old and confused" and say there is a generation gap.

How old do you think I am? I bet you have this old lady in mind. You are in for a shock! This woman would be only 61 years old, born in 1952.. The young ones wouldn't believe it.

De Cotta Law Pre–nuptial contracts - Separation of assets – Community of property – I recently wrote about the growing recognition of pre-nuptial contracts in the English and UK courts, particularly after a Supreme Court decision in the widely reported case of a French/German couple who chose to divorce in London. However in the Spanish jurisdiction and in many other Civil Code countries a couple can make a legally binding decision to hold their assets separately either before or during their marriage. If you do not make a positive declaration of this intention in Spain then the default or standard regime between a couple will be community of property – gananciales. Some regions such as Catalunya do have separation of assets as the standard regime. There is a common misconception that the standard regime in England is separation of assets but on divorce and after a long marriage the English divorce courts will look to grant a 50/50 split of capital and income once any children of the marriage have been provided for. Should you be considering marrying and want to have certainty about what may happen to your property and assets in the future you can sign a Deed before a notary agreeing that you will each hold your assets separately in future. A Spanish notary is familiar with this declaration and you can ask that an Inventory be attached if you wish though it will apply to subsequent assets as well unless you agree otherwise in a subsequent deed. Where a couple who are not Spanish want to make this declaration the notary might require a Certificate of law stating that under the law of the nationality of the couple it is possible to make this declaration. A certificate of law is not necessary if the couple do not share a nationality and are marrying in Spain with the aim of settling here. The declaration of separation of assets is binding if there is a future disagreement over property or on separation and di-

vorce. Some commentators say that a couple should not be thinking of the end of a relationship at the beginning! However the other view is that anything which brings certainty if the relationship does break down should be considered where appropriate. 5 Places You Didn't Know Existed In Barcelona Chic, calm and cultured, these satellie towns provide the perfect respite when hedonistic Barcelona gets too much Llafranc An hour-and-a-half drive from Barcelona, situated in the northern part of Catalonia, Llafranc is considered a luxury village, with one of the best beaches on the Costa Brava. It is home to rich and beautiful people. You will find amazing houses, great restaurants and gorgeous small shops specialising in trendy clothing. One of Llafranc's attractions is Hotel Llafranc, established in 1958. It was very popular in the 1950s and '60s amongst international personalities such as Dalí, Ernest Hemingway, Kirk Douglas, Rock Hudson and Sophia Loren. Calella de Mar is just along the coast from Llafranc; the two villages are connected by a 15-minute walk along a pine-scented cliff path with panoramic views. This historic fishing village dates back to over 650 years ago, with a mild Mediterranean climate, ideal for enjoying a day at the beach. Enjoy its more than three kilometres of secluded golden sand beaches.

Begur In the heart of Costa Brava, the rocky cliffs of this village are absolutely breath-taking. Begur's old town is home to numerous Rom a n e s q u e monuments. Begur combines nature with some of the best restaurants on the coast, and superb golf courses, making it an unbeatable place to visit. Peralada is a small village in the north-eastern part of Catalonia. The period of greatest splendour for Peralada was during the Middle Ages, as can be seen in many buildings: the church of Sant Martí, the Sant Doménech Cloister, the Carmen church and monastery and the remains of the 14th-century walls. During the same century, the Counts of Rocabertí built the Peralada Castle which is now the village's treasure. Every summer the castle gardens provide the venue for the Castell de Peralada Music Festival with internationally-renowned musicians.

Paco - A Tribute From Away By Saffron Flynn Back in the 80s and 90s, my husband and I spent a good deal of time in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Then a small fishing village, today like so many others along the Costa Maya, it has morphed into a mini-upscale Cancun. When we do go now ─ which isn’t that often since Spain has become our second home ─ our mantra is always the same: “Remember when… the streets were dirt, you cooked freshly-caught fish on an open beach fire, you bought tacos from Flaco Taco’s rickety street cart?” Time has a way of changing all things. But the one thing it cannot alter is memories. “And thank God for that,” I’ve been thinking lately. In those days, on a side street just across from the park, the restaurant Mascaras packed them in every night. The margueritas were acknowledged as the best in town; served au naturel and lethal as hell in those thick stubby glasses with thumb prints. Man, those things could really sneak up on you. But I digress. We spent many a holiday in Playa. One in particular stands out as if it were only yesterday. It was quite cold for early January. Happily, I had packed my thick woollen shawl. Everyone agreed Mascaras was the place to go on New Year’s Eve. Dinner, musical entertainment (Andean group or maybe a Mariachi band) for 40 pesos; you couldn’t beat it. So we booked our table, took a longer than usual siesta, and arrived at Mascaras at about nine. We hoped the young maître d’ wouldn’t notice our disappointment as we followed him to a table tucked too far back in the corner. As late reservations, we couldn’t be fussy. The meal was great; the camaraderie cheery as always. A group of Brits at the next table spotted us alone and invited us to join them. Happy to be out of our cramped little corner, we happily accepted; our waiter “no problemo” jammed two more chairs into their circle and moved our settings without fuss. Just behind us, an Andean group, pan flutes trilling, added a mystical touch to the atmosphere. Halfway through the meal I happened to look up and noticed a tall fellow speaking to the maître d’ in the doorway. He had a long ponytail and carried a guitar case. The look on the maître d’s face was somewhat enigmatic. Was he happy, confused, surprised....what? Other patrons had also taken notice, and by now the room vibrated with the anticipatory buzz of a hundred agitated bees. “Santa Madre!” The male half of a couple next to us whispered like a prayer. “Eso es Paco!” Indeed, the man at the door was Paco de Lucia who, since it was New Year’s Eve, had wandered in unannounced to play for the patrons of Mascaras. Slowly, with the purpose of an avenging angel, he strode towards a small kind of shelf with chair used by guitarists hired to attract customers during the week. Carefully, reverently, he extracted from his case a rather beat-up looking instrument. After noodling a few short riffs, he

began to play. By this time the patrons to a person had stopped eating, dumbfounded as people are when receiving a gift beyond expectation. This one had floated down from somewhere up the beach like a piece of extraordinary driftwood. Paco de Lucia played for about an hour. No one spoke; no one dared. At about 11 or so he thanked us for a gracious reception, stood up and left. He probably wanted to make it home by 12 to ring in the New Year with his beloved family ─ the same family with whom he was sharing a day at the beach this March when he suffering a heart attack and died. I was lucky enough to see Paco de Lucia another time at the McCarter Theatre at Princeton University. At a gallery in Jerez a few years back I spoke to a photographer who had shot Paco in action. Large posters of The Master graced the walls. One directly behind us looked down upon our conversation as we spoke. The image on the wall seemed larger than life, but never larger than the man himself on that miraculous impromptu New Year’s Eve in Playa. I own every CD Paco de Lucia ever recorded. Every day I play them for at least an hour to remind myself how lucky I am to have shared the presence of greatness. Gracias, Paco. We will never forget you and your music lives on.

He's The Incredible Pup! This is the brave puppy born with GREEN fur.

Smaller and weaker than his siblings, he is struggling to survive. But let's hope his incredibly rare glow in the dark coat can give him the strength of The Incredible Hulk. The pup - a breed of hound - left dog breeders baffled when he emerged last week. A male and female were born with startling green fur. The female died but the male has survived - although he is very weak.

"I couldn't believe it when I first saw them, I thought the puppies were dirty and tried to clean them, but the colour wouldn't come off," said Molina, who breeds dogs with her father in the town of Laguna de Duero, near Valladolid in Spain. The surviving male is now beginning to lose his pigment. The cause of the death of the dead puppy, and the reason for its odd colouring, are now being investigated by local vet Daniel Valverde. "There are no other recorded cases of this happening in Spanish scientific literature," he said after contacting Madrid's Complutense University. Valverde is now carrying out virological and bacteriological tests to try and find an answer. Examples of green puppies have been reported before. In 2012, the Daily Mail reported a Labrador pup born with a green hue who was named 'The Hulk'. His owners said research suggested it was the result of exposure to a substance called biliverdin, which can be found in the placenta.

interesting Facts - The name Ghana means warrior king and harks back to the days of the Ghana Empire between the 9th and 13th centuries. The Ghana Empire was built on trade in salt and gold, which is why British merchants later called it the Gold Coast. Ghana was also the first black African nation in the region to achieve independence from a colonial power, in this instance Britain. Ghana is the world's second-largest producer of cocoa behind the Ivory Coast and Africa's biggest gold miner after South Africa. It is one of the continent's fastest growing economies, and newest oil producer. The Ghanaian economy proved to be relatively resilient to the world economic shock of 20089, mainly because of the high prices of cocoa and gold. Shampoo I don't know WHY I didn't figure this out sooner. It's the shampoo we use in the shower. When I wash my hair, the shampoo runs down my whole body, and printed very clearly on the shampoo label is this warning, "FOR EXTRA VOLUME AND BODY."

No wonder I have been gaining weight. I am getting rid of the shampoo and am going to use dishwashing liquid instead. It’s label reads, "DISSOLVES FAT THAT IS OTHERWISE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE." Problem solved. If I don't answer the phone...I'll be in the shower.

World’s Biggest Haggis A Scottish food firm has unveiled the world's biggest haggis - and it weighs about as much as a small car. Haggis makers Hall's revealed the giant haggis, which weighs about a ton, at the Royal Highland Show. It's being sold off in individual portions, with proceeds being donated to Macmillan Cancer Care and other children's charities. Hundreds of pounds of pork offal, oatmeal and onions went into the colossal creation which measured more than a metre wide and high and had to be transported to the Ingliston showground near Edinburgh on a truck. Staff at Hall's in North Berwick worked to double the previous record, set in 2009, and take their haggis into the Guinness Book of World Records. Wayne Godfrey, chief executive of Browns Food Group, which owns Hall's, said: "2014 is

the official year of the haggis and so we thought this was the perfect occasion to reclaim the Guinness World Record title that was first held by Hall's over 30 years ago. "We knew we were aiming for a very ambitious size and weight and so everyone at Hall's is thrilled we pulled it off, reclaiming the title - and beating the previous record by such a significant amount." Hall's said the 2,227lb haggis' claim to be the world's largest has been officially verified by Guinness World Records. The previous record stood at 1,234lb. Scottish food and environment secretary Richard Lochhead said: "Haggis is Scotland's iconic national dish and is enjoyed by people from all over the world. "It is the perfect way to celebrate one of our nation's proudest culinary traditions whilst raising money for a good cause."

Oh Hello!! Sorry men, when it comes to one night stands size DOES matter - but not how you expect When it comes to one night stands size does matter, according to a new study - but it's not what you expect. Women prefer men with a wider manhood for a casual fling the research from UCLA in Los Angeles found, while the preferred length stayed the same. But it's not all bad news for those lacking in the manhood department, because girls are more likely to prefer something thinner when they're choosing a long-term partner. The results were determined by 41 women who were asked to examine various penis models and choose their favourite. For the experiment, 33 different sized phalluses were made on a 3D printer and the women were asked to choose which one took their fancy.

They ranged in length and girth with the smallest one measuring just four inches with a circumference of two and half inches. On the other end of the scale was an eight and half inch figure, which was seven inches in circumference. When it came to one night fumbles, the models with the biggest girths were chosen. Length pretty much stayed the same, with the women preferring a six and half inch penis on average for one night stands and relationships. Researchers said: "They preferred larger-girth (but not longer-length) models for one-time partners than for longer-term partners. "Women's sexual selection may help explain why human penises are unusually thick compared to other primates." The findings were revealed at a meeting of the Association for Psychological Science. A second study also found that women tended to overestimate the size of the organs in front of them.

World's Weirdest Homes We've taken a look at some of the bizarre architectural creations from around the world which people have been able to call home The Teapot Dome Remember the teapot dome scandal of 1922 which engulfed American President Warren G Harding? Well if you live in Zillah, Washington, it is hard to forget. This odd building was built as a reminder of when the Secretary of State for the Interior took a bribe from oil companies wanting to drill on Navy owned land. The Shoe House There was once was a rich old man who lived in a shoe... Footwear magnate Mahlon N Haines built this shoe shaped home in Hellam, Pennsylvania, and boasted three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and a living

room. It is now a museum. The Upside-Down House Poland has been through seismic changes in the past few decades. So architect Daniel Czapiewski thought he would capture it with this distinctive home. He says the house, in Szymbark, Poland, is a statement about the communist era and the current state of the world. It took 114 days to build, longer than expected as workers suffered dizziness and confusion and needed frequent breaks to recover. The Pickle Barrel House Built in 1926 by the Pioneer Cooperage Company, it was a summer home for popular cartoonist William Donahey. The company ran adverts with his strip Teenie Weenie and sold their products in a slightly smaller version of the jar than the house in Grand Marais, Michigan.

Glass Curtains

Casa Linda

Just imagine being able to use your balcony or terrace all year round no matter what the weather; sitting with your family and friends enjoying the view even in rain, wind and storm.

For more than 10 years, Casa Linda has been working successfully with a large variety of customers from northern parts of Europe, helping with a wide range of matters concerning the purchase or renting of houses, apartments and land in Spain.

It’s not a dream ─ you can do it! With our frameless balcony/terrace glazing, you can have an extra warm and dry space without interfering with your view! When you choose us to supply your glass curtains we will make sure you are delighted with the final result. Your recommendation is very important to us – and we assure you of perfect service and workmanship to guarantee satisfaction. iCaP sliding and opening systems This system can be installed on any balcony or terrace. Only in very unusual circumstances might extra construction work be necessary, so contact us for perfect assistance and special service. Our supplier, a company registered in Spain, is dedicated to the manufacture of the ‘Topslide’ system of frameless glass curtains, using toughened glass for safety and security. The system is made to suit the exact needs of the clients, using mechanical parts manufactured especially for ICAP S.L. according to their detailed specifications. The system can be easily fitted in most types of buildings and since there is no need for any vertical frames, it does not change the outer facade. Therefore, your community will not be inconvenienced in any way by the installation of our system. The installation of glass curtains effectively gives you an additional space to use as you wish: sun room, dining room – whatever you need. It can also save on heating costs during the winter season, accumulating the heat of the sun in your new room, while in summer it can be opened up completely to keep cool. And because the panels open easily, it is very easy to keep clean.

It is estimated that during the past four years, prices for real estate have fallen to the level of the year 2000. The construction boom ended and pricing is at now at a very reasonable level ─ right now is the time to purchase properties in Spain. In fact, we noticed a slight increase in demand during the past few months. This primarily affects high-priced and valuable objects, as they can be bought in very good conditions. As the market and demand have changed in recent years, we are also offering more rental places now, as well as assistance with a large range of necessary paperwork such as contracts, translations, NIE etc. For detailed information, do not hesitate to contact us on 629 888 170

Can you feel the pulse in your wrist? For humans the normal pulse is 70 heartbeats per minute. Elephants have a slower pulse of 27 and for a canary it is 1000! If all the blood vessels in your body were laid end to end, they would reach about 60,000 miles Abraham Lincoln probably had a medical condition called Marfans syndrome. Some of its symptoms are extremely long bones, curved spine, an arm span that is longer than the person’s height, eye problems, heart problems and very little fat. It is a rare, inherited condition In one day your heart beats 100,000 times

Half your body’s red blood cells are replaced every seven days By the time you are 70 you will have easily drunk over 12,000 gallons of water. Coughing can cause air to move through your windpipe faster than the speed of sound – over a thousand feet per second! Germs only cause disease, right? But a common bacterium, E. Coli, found in the intestine helps us digest green vegetables and beans (also making gases – pew!). These same bacteria also make vitamin K, which causes blood to clot. If we didn’t have these germs we would bleed to death whenever we got a small cut! It takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile. That dust on rugs and your furniture is not only dirt. It’s mostly made of dead skin cells. Everybody loses millions of skin cells every day which fall on the floor and get kicked up to land on all the surfaces in a room. You could say, “That’s me all over.”

¡PERFECT Alarm! SL celebrates its fifth anniversary This is a company which sells high quality security systems for residential and commercial customers. When Bernd Martin of the company ¡PERFECT Alarm! SL arrived on the Costa del Sol five years ago, the real estate boom was waning and the economic crisis was spreading through Europe. It was not the best time to start a business -- especially if the products are not cheap, but focus instead on quality, performance and reliability. For the anniversary, we spoke to Bernd Martin about his experiences. Mr. Martin, when you came to the Costa del Sol in 2009, the 'fat' years were actually over. What led you to start such a big project as ¡Perfect Alarm! SL? ‘As with any well thought out and carefully planned company, the positive market analysis was the decisive GO signal for such an exciting project, despite -- or perhaps because of -- the economic crisis. Although there were already many established competitors, there was a market niche for high-quality products that could be adapted to the habits and lifestyle of owners’ security needs. This wasn’t being offered -- instead, it was one shoe fits all, and it’s still largely quantity not quality.’ were there any times you wanted to drop everything and walk away from it all? ‘Oh yes, but not for the typical reasons. There have been things like trying to find out where orders were delivered to or if they had been delivered at all; the ever changing tax codes or having a customer’s dog eat -- or run off with - parts being installed. But what keeps us going are all our satisfied customers.’ what distinguishes your products and services? ‘We set our company apart from others because we have a successful and reliable threephase approach to security and invasion of privacy. 1st phase ... invasion of privacy by trespassing onto the land. 2nd phase... a unique approach to the danger of the object (outer skin). 3rd phase...entry to the premises, ie burglary. The competitors want to put burglary detection first. For us, this is incomprehensible as the burglar is already inside! Our approach is to

detect and divert the intruder before they gain entry. The sooner they are detected outside, the sooner they are unnerved and their plans to break in are abandoned. We offer each customer on-site consulting and individual plans for every property, professional installation and intensive one-to-one customer service. Also, all visits and advice from us beforehand is free.’ Does a customer have to have major altertions done with the installation? ‘Fortunately, today everything is installed wirelessly. The customer can be notified of an attempted burglary via cell or smartphone with a text message or picture; they don’t need a landline.’ are there different security packages? ‘Naturally, because of the different security requirements of our customers, we offer a variety of product packages. We are able to combine products in order to achieve an optimal result. Perfect Alarm SL also offers surveillance cameras from the German company Mobotix, known worldwide for its excellent products.’

Women As Explained By Engineers Have you ever wondered how a woman's brain works? Well... it's finally explained here in one, easy-to-understand illustration:

Every one of those little blue balls is a thought about something that needs to be done, a decision or a problem that needs to be solved. A man has only 2 balls and they take up all his thoughts.

Helping Axarquia News The Spanish tax administration agency (aeat) has initiated 27,696 tax inspections of foreign pensioners residing in Spain, as well as returning Spanish pensioners who have failed to declare their foreign pensions. However, during a Parliamentary control session with the government, the Minister of Finance, Cristobal Montoro, claimed that the pensioners are: “not being treated as if they were fraudsters” and: “each particular case” is being studied to avoid unnecessary losses of their assets. According to Montoro, the percentage of inspections affecting this group of people is actually small if compared to the total actions that were initiated last year by the Tax Administration Agency. cranberries can help you to recover from it. Cranberries contain citric acid and other nutrients that can prevent kidney stones, and other kidney and bladder problems. Consuming cranberries on a regular basis can help you to avoid dental problems such as gingivitis, gum disease, cavities and plaque build-up.

Cranberries are one of Nature’s miracle fruits – not only do they taste good, but they have many health benefits too. Cranberries are rich in antioxidants, which help to flush out your system. This in turn improves your metabolism and digestive system so that you can begin to lose weight quicker. They have an active disease-fighting factor: cranberries are antibacterial and studies show that they can help treat and prevent urinary tract infections. Cranberry juice contains proanthocyanidins, which help to prevent E. coli bacteria from sticking to the walls of the uterus and bladder. One glass of juice a day is all you need to prevent and heal urinary tract infections.

The antioxidants contained in cranberries will also help your body to get rid of all the free radicals which contribute to the ageing process. They will not only help your skin to look young, but your internal organs will also be able to function longer without problems. Cranberries can also help to lift your moods by relieving stress, anxiety and depression. Studies show that they are good for the brain and can help to improve your memory.

Recent research has also linked cranberries to the prevention of kidney stones and ulcers. Did you know? Unsweetened cranberry juice makes an excellent mouthwash – studies show it can help kill bacteria and fight cavities. Laboratory studies have shown that cranberry extracts can prevent breast cancer cells from multiplying. Other studies showed that cranberries helped to inhibit the development of cancerous cells in lab animals. Other cancers that may be prevented by using cranberries are colon, prostate and lung. Cranberries are very good for the heart in several different ways. They help to lower the bad cholesterol levels which can clog the arterial walls. They also help to prevent plaque from forming on the arterial walls, which can lead to atherosclerosis, (the hardening of the arteries). As a result, your chances of a stroke are reduced, and if you have suffered from a stroke,

Please mention The Sentinella when responding to adverts La Ruta Del Sol y Del Vino

The third route of the Axarquia La Ruta del Sol y del Vino takes us in search of Sun and Wine, a tourist attraction to be sure! The hills of the Axarquia are laden with vines defying gravity which produce both the Malaga raisins as well as the sweet wine the region has been famous for since Roman times. Strong and sweet, it tastes a bit like sherry. The 55 kilometre Ruta del Sol y del Vino takes us through Algarrobo, Sayalonga, Cómpeta, Canillas de Albaida, Torrox, Nerja and Frigiliana. We start our tour by driving along the N-340 to Algarrobo Costa and then turning 4ms inland to the Pueblo itself. Here the streets are narrow and winding, so it is best to park the car and walk. Be aware that if you arrive there at 2pm when all the inhabitants drive home to lunch, you have to squeeze into doorways to let them pass with their wheels screeching on the hot tarmac! 5kms further up the road at an altitude of 355 metres Sayalonga boasts a unique circular cemetery and a pretty square which you can see from the road with bars and restaurants tempting you to stop for refreshment, a good idea as it is a further 9kms to Cómpeta where the winding road takes you past an unusual structure reminiscent of Gaudi and on arriving in the village there is a Gaudi like lookout point decorated with glazed mosaic tiles. Whilst in Cómpeta a trip to the wine museum which is also a bar and restaurant is a must! As is the central Plaza Almijara, next to the gold domed Church of Asunción where you can while away an hour or so in the shops, street cafes and tapas bars. The village is famous for its honey, pottery and vino de terreno. Every year on August 15th the town celebrates this sweet wine in La Noche del

Vino where 1500 litres are consumed by merry townsfolk and tourists alike. Back on the road the route continues to the next village of Canillas de Albaida just 3kms away on the slopes of the Sierra de Tejeda and Almijara mountains on the borders of Malaga and Granada. This is an area protected by the Andalusian government and if you are lucky you can spot eagles, wild boar and mountain goats amongst the Pine and Oak trees. In the main square you can find the 16th century parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Expectación and before you leave do visit the Arab stone bridge that joins the Cájules and Turvilla rivers. To continue our route we have to go back on the road to Cómpeta and then a further 15kms down to Torrox, the second village with both a Pueblo and Coastal resort. If you want to stretch your legs after the drive down from Cómpeta then take the paseo de maritime from El Faro in a westerly direction and maybe even dive into the waves to refresh yourself before drying off and following the N-340 east to Nerja. Just before finishing our tour in this picturesque seaside town we head inland for 6kms to sample the delights of Frigiliana, one of the prettiest of the Pueblos Blancos and as such the winner of many national and regional awards for conservation and beauty. Here you can find many tiny shops selling local handicrafts including linen, lace, fine basket ware and ceramics. The village has two distinct centres, one of medieval and Moorish origin and the other a recent construction in keeping with its historic architecture. Finally, the last stop on our route of Sun and Wine takes us back to the town of Nerja with its labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets, reminiscent of the Lanes in Brighton or The Shambles in York. Here you can shop ´til you drop but don´t forget to visit the Balcón de Europa, the famous Burriana Beach and the Nerja Caves which are actually situated in Maro the small village 3kms to the east of Nerja.

Why Gratitude is Great By Kathie Holmes So many people turn to alcohol and drugs as the “fix it” for any situation they cannot deal with. Sadly, neither of these things actually fixes anything. They mask a problem. They offer a temporary from pain and suffering but they do not fix it. Gratitude on the other hand, fixes everything. It allows you to be grateful for things you normally overlook and the minute you start focusing on the good things in your world, the bad things start to appear smaller and your focus moves away from them. Gratitude is great. It is like a legal drug that you can take in enormous amounts and never overdose from. It is the universe’s cure for all. It can heal hearts and minds. It can change communities. It can unite complete strangers. Gratitude really should be your go-to pick me up. Focusing on gratitude means you are no longer focusing on the purely physical in your world but you start to focus on the small, everyday things we take for granted. Once you start to do that you begin to shift your vibration from one of negativity to one of thankfulness and positivity. The more you continue on that path, the higher your good vibration becomes. The Light is now available at Pasatiempo book shop in Torre del Mar or call: 675 391 967

Profile Name: Victoria Caroline Beckham (nee Adams) Born: 17 April 1974 in Harlow, Essex Parents: Jacqueline Doreen Adams (née Cannon), a former insurance clerk and hairdresser, and Anthony William Adams, who worked as an electronics engineer. Marital status: Married David Beckham on 4 July 1999 Children: sons Brooklyn Joseph (born March 4, 1999), Romeo James (born September 1, 2002) Cruz David (born February 20, 2005) and daughter Harper Seven (born July 10, 2011) Her parents founded an electronics wholesale business which allowed a comfortable upbringing for Victoria, her sister Louise and brother Christian Adams. In 1980, she watched the musical film Fame and subsequently made the decision to pursue a musical career. She was enrolled in the Jason Theatre School. Beckham auditioned for a March 1993 advertisement in The Stage which required girls who were "street smart, extrovert, ambitious and able to sing and dance" and in 1994, she joined the all-female group, the Spice Girls. The group was one of the most successful pop acts of the 1990s, selling over 55,000,000 records worldwide. After they stopped recording, Beckham tried to build a solo career. Her first solo single, "Out of Your Mind", reached number two in the UK singles chart in

A total of 437 staff were employed for the Beckhams’ wedding reception, which was estimated to have cost £500,000 The Spice Girls reformed in 2007 but on their tour, Beckham was the only member of the group not to sing a solo song. Beckham has found more success as an internationally recognised and photographed style icon. Her career in fashion includes designing a line of jeans for Rock & Republic and later designing her own denim brand, dVb Style. She has brought out her own range of sunglasses, fragrance, handbags and jewellery. In addition, Beckham has released two best-selling books; one her autobiography, the other a fashion guide. The couple’s Hertfordshire home was bought for £2.5 million in 1999 and had a £3million renovation. It was dubbed Beckingham Palace by the media. Elton John and David Furnish are reportedly the godparents of Brooklyn and Romeo, and their godmother is Elizabeth Hurley. In January 2000, a tip-off to Scotland Yard detectives exposed a plot to kidnap Victoria and Brooklyn Beckham. The family was then moved to a secret location, but no arrests were made. Beckham's marriage and career as a singer have made her the 52nd richest woman in Britain. The Beckhams’ joint wealth is estimated at £112 million.

Clownfish protect themselves from the poisonous tentacles of the anemones with a layer of mucus which is present on their bodies. They lay only during the full moon and they hatch only after dusk. The male clownfish guards the eggs. Clownfish are poor swimmers.

30 species of clownfish are recognised.

In a group of clownfish, there is a strict dominance hierarchy. The largest and most aggressive female is found at the top of the tree

All clownfish are born males. But when a female dies, the most dominant clownfish changes itself into a female!

Clownfish have several colours. They can be orange and white, blue and white, black and white and yellow and white.

One species of the clownfish, called the percula clownfish, dances when it comes into contact with the anemones for the first time. Clownfish live in small groups among sea anemones. Anemones are flesh-eating animals that look like plants. The relationship between the clownfish and sea anemone is symbiotic. Clownfish benefit the anemones by eating their leftovers and dead tentacles, and also circulate the water around them. In return, the anemones protect the clownfish with their venomous tentacles from attack by other fish. Clownfish can lay around 1000 eggs at one time, and unlike other fish, out of these, all the eggs can survive. Clownfish get their name because of their stripes and their bouncing movements, which make them look like clowns.

The favourite habitat of clownfish is on coral reefs. They only grow to between three and five inches long.

Though clownfish are shown as calm and modest in the movie, ‘Finding Nemo’, they are actually known to be aggressive fish. In the wild, clownfish are said to live for six to eight years. Clownfish are omnivores. They eat algae as well as the food left by the anemones.

Centenary Commemoration Members of the Anglican Parish of Nerja and Almunecar will be holding a very special event on the eve of the Centenary of the start of the First World War, Sunday 3rd August 2014, on the Balcon de Europa Nerja, at 7.00pm.

It will be a Service on the theme of Peace and Reconciliation to enable people to remember the terrible events of the Great War. The Act of Worship will include hymns, Bible readings and prayers but also some poems and readings from the time of that war and also some secular songs of the era. “We will be thinking of all those who were caught up in the courageous but tragic events of the First World War,” said Fr Geoff Johnston, the Priest in Charge. “ We will remember all those killed in action, or by disease, the bereaved, the lost, the families which were shattered, the wounded, maimed and injured and those who held in silence unspeakable memories of warfare.” “We will conclude by committing ourselves to work for a world where all men and women can live together in peace and justice.” Everyone who desires to live in peace and harmony with their fellow human beings and to eschew the evil of war is invited to share in this occasion. Film iew wolves Rev ig Bad B

Aharon Keshale’s and Avot Papushado’s debut feature Rabies spotlighted the Israeli writer-directors as talents to keep an eye on. That promise is lived up to in their second film – Big Bad Wolves – which is a delicate balance of horror and black comedy. Its premise echoes other movies, including the recent Prisoners, but Big Bad Wolves takes a fresh approach. The War On Terror subtext has a deeper, darker meaning in an Israeli context, where the film-

makers suggest everyone has learned torture techniques during military service. It opens with a nightmarish scene as a child is snatched by an unseen killer while exploring an old house. There’s a drugged cake, a parent who arrives with chicken soup and stays to wield a blowtorch, a passing Arab horseman, a little girl who needs picking up from ballet school, and various familial guilts. Even if you think you’ve seen this story too often, Big Bad Wolves will surprise and enthral. Star Rating – ***/*****

The El Valle Drama Group “You’ll never take me alive copper” “Stage props collapsing” and dead bodies crawling off the stage. All this happened at the El Valle drama group’s first production of 2014. Held at the Trapiche Restaurant. This was a Murder, Mystery, Comedy called Murder at Checkmate Manor. Once again the group played both nights to packed houses. The Play was cleverly directed by Steve Heugh. The cast hugely enjoyed themselves acting in this production, and this meant many hours rehearsing to ensure that all went wrong in the right places. The excellent

stage set was once again designed and built by John Bezer. We’re sure you will all be delighted to know that the Drama group are already planning the next production which will be Aladdin on November 28th 29th and 30th. We would like to recruit additional people who are willing to take part, either on stage or assisting behind the scenes. Readings and casting will take place on the first Tuesday in September with rehearsals every Tuesday at 4.30 at the Trapiche Restaurant. ) : a h a Jokes h A woman is taking a bath (naked, of course) when suddenly she hears a knock at the door. "Can I come in?" a male voice asks. "Who is it?" the woman asks. "It is the blind man" says the voice on the other side of the door. The woman gets out of the bath and after some consideration, opens the door, thinking, "Well, he's blind anyway". The man comes in the bathroom, takes a good look at the woman and says, "Great tits! Now where would you like the blinds?" ------------------------------------------------------------On this morning a woman and her baby were taking a bus. As she entered the bus the driver says "Wow that is one ugly baby." The woman deeply hurt just continued on the bus and found a seat next to an elderly man. The man asks "What's wrong you look mad?" She replied "I am. That bus driver just insulted me." "You shouldn't take that from him." the man replied. "He's a public worker and should give you respect. If I was you I would take down his badge number and report him. "You're right sir I think I will report him." The elderly man says, "You go on up there and get his badge number. I'll hold your monkey for you." ------------------------------------------------------------A young lady stops by her grandmother's house on the way to a dance. She wants to introduce her boyfriend to her grandmother. As they are chatting, her boyfriend spies some peanuts on the coffee table. He begins munching on them as they converse. After about an hour, they are getting ready to leave and he thanks the grandmother for her hospitality and especially for the peanuts. "Oh, your welcome young man," she says. "I appreciate you finishing them up. Ever since I lost my dentures I can only suck the chocolate off of them." ------------------------------------------------------------A lady is having a bad day at the tables in Vegas. Down to her last $100, completely ex-

asperated, she cries, "What rotten luck! What in the world should I do now?" A gent next to her, trying to calm her down a bit, calmly suggests, "I don't know... Why don't you play your age?" He walks away. Moments later, he is intrigued to hear a great commotion at the roulette table. Maybe, she won! Rushing back to the table and pushing his way through the crowd, he is stunned to see the lady lying limp on the floor, with the table operator kneeling over her. He asks, "What happened? Is she all right?" The operator replies, "I don't know, buddy.... She put all her money on 29. When 36 came up she fainted!" ------------------------------------------------------------A young man asked an old rich man how he made his money. The old guy fingered his expensive wool vest and said, "Well, son, it was 1932. The depth of the Great Depression. I was down to my last nickel." "I invested that nickel in an apple. I spent the entire day polishing the apple and, at the end of the day, I sold the apple for ten cents." "The next morning, I invested those ten cents in two apples. I spent the entire day polishing them and sold them at 5pm for 20 cents. I continued this system for a month, by the end of which I'd accumulated a fortune of $9.80." "Then my wife's father died and left us two million dollars." ------------------------------------------------------------A fellow was walking through a cemetery one dark and stormy night. As he got well into the cemetery, he heard a voice say, "Mark! Mark!". Pretending not to let it bother him, he pulled his coat a little tighter and kept walking. Again the voice said, "Mark! Mark!". That did it. He took off full speed and didn't stop till he was well outside the gates. As he stopped to catch his breath, the moon broke through the clouds enough so he could see what had been following him. It was a dog with a hare lip.

Jokes h a ha :) Two young engineers applied for a single position at a computer company. They both had the same qualifications. In order to determine which individual to hire, the applicants were asked to take a test by the Department manager. Upon completion of the test, both men missed only one of the questions. The manager went to the first applicant and said, "Thank you for your interest, but we've decided to give the job to the other applicant." "And why would you be doing that? We both got 9 questions correct," asked the rejected applicant. "We have based our decision not on the correct answers, but on the question you missed," said the Department manager. "And just how would one incorrect answer be better than the other?" the rejected applicant inquired. "Simple," said the Department manager, "Your fellow applicant put down on question #5, 'I don't know.' You put down, 'Neither do I.'" ------------------------------------------------------------An old sailor was out walking on the dock one day when he met a former ship mate of his. They had not seen each other for many years so they had much to talk about and many old memories to renew. After some time, one said to the other, "If you don't mind my saying so, you don't look very good, you must have experienced some bad luck". "Yes," the other one said, "I have. You see this peg leg? Well, one day I was out on deck and my leg become tangled up in a loose line and it was so badly mangled that they had to take it off at the knee." His friend agreed that was bad luck. The other one continued. "You see I have a hook for a hand. One day I was out on deck when a shipmate of mine fell overboard. I leaned over as far as I could in a attempt to rescue him and as I extended my hand to him a shark took my hand off." "My, you really did experience bad luck, the other responded, I see you have a patch over

one eye, What happened to your eye?" "Well, I was out on deck again one day and just as I looked up, a seagull that was flying over , unloaded, and got me right in the eye." "My, My,(not real sailor talk) did that take your eye out? “No, that was the first day I had my hook." ------------------------------------------------------------By the time John pulled into the little town, every hotel room was taken. "You've got to have a room somewhere." he pleaded to the last hotel manager, "Or just a bed--I don't really care where. I'm completely exhausted" "Well, I do have a double room with one occupant," admitted the manager, "and I'm sure he would be glad to split the cost. But to tell you the truth, he snores so loudly that people in adjoining rooms have complained all week. I'm not sure it'd be worth it to you." "No problem," the tired traveller assured him. "I'll take it." The next morning John came down to breakfast bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. The manager asked him how he survived. "Never better." John said. The manager was impressed. "No problem with the other guy snoring, then?" "Nope. I shut him up in no time." "How'd you manage that?" "He was already in bed, snoring away. when I came in the room," John said. "I went over, gave him a kiss on the cheek, said, 'Good night, beautiful' and he sat up all night watching me."

1. Three people check into a hotel. They pay $60 as the rent of the room. After they checkin, the manager realize that the rent for the room is $55. So, he gives $5 to the bellboy and asks him to give it to them. The bellboy thinks that it will be difficult for the three people to share $5 among them and seeking the personal benefit, he pockets $2 and gives the remaining $3 to them.
