m Fro Ed... the Ho Ho Ho…. Merry Christmas one and all! The crazy month of December has now arrived — it’s a bit like ‘my mate Marmite’: you either love it or hate it. Me? Well I hate Marmite but I love Christmas, although I have to admit it always seemed a bit more special in the UK than it does here in Spain. Saying that, though, it does start getting Christmassy earlier and earlier every year here too now.

Editor: Kami Knight Sales: 664 210 468 / 664 689 138

However I still don’t think Christmas in Spain quite has that same magical feel to it but it is 12 years since I last spent this special festive period in the UK and I could be looking back with rose-tinted spectacles! I like to think that I make it as Christmassy as possible for my two children here in Spain; they go to bed on Christmas Eve and can’t sleep because of the excitement of what Christmas day will hold. One thing I have noticed over the years is that many of the local restaurants now don’t need to advertise their Christmas Day lunches as they get booked up in advance with regulars — but what if you are not a regular in any bars and just fancy taking some time out over the Christmas period to enjoy being waited on and appreciate a nice traditional festive lunch with family and friends? For those of you who can’t get in anywhere on Christmas Day, PepeMolina restaurant in Almayate is offering a traditional Christmas lunch on Boxing Day (26th). There will be a three-course menu, Christmas crackers and a welcome glass of cava or sherry on arrival. You can see the full menu and details for booking on page 37.

Strange News time in the Malaga area, non-profit organisation Angeles Malaguenos de la Noche — whose goal is to provide a decent meal to anyone who can’t afford it — will be serving over 2,500 people daily, providing the needy with breakfast, lunch and dinner. When there are enough donations, they also provide other staples such as milk, sugar, oil etc and absolutely any help is welcome. On average, they use approximately 120 litres of milk daily! During the Christmas period they intend to serve a special Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve — around 3,000 meals in a total of 30 steakhouses in Malaga City. Distribution of food also takes place during the morning of 24th December. How can you help out? You can make a donation to UNICAJA 2103 3034 41 0010031355 for this Christmas campaign. The price of a steakhouse meal is just 6 euros or call 951 13 05 78 to offer your services — you could make Christmas truly special for the less fortunate.

Bigfoot lives! A 22-year-old Venezuelan man has been officially recognised as having the world's largest feet. Jeison Orlando Rodriguez Hernandez has been presented with a certificate by the Guinness Book Of World Records because his feet have grown to size 26. The presentation was made at a shoe shop in Germany, where he has customised shoes made.

Whatever you decide to do, have a wonderful Christmas time and as ever, enjoy the read. Have a great month x

Budget film Horror writer Stephen King has struck a deal with student filmmakers in Wales. King sold the movie rights to his short story, Stationary Bike, to Blaenau Gwent Film Academy for one dollar. Kevin Phillips, a tutor at the school, told The Boston Globe the deal is “great for our students who are fans of his writing and a great scoop for the academy”. The story is about a man who begins using a stationary bike after his doctor tells him to lose weight because of high cholesterol. He gets fit but begins “having strange thoughts” about being followed on his daily rides. Marsha DeFilippo, King’s assistant, said the Maine author has a programme in which students receive permission to make a non-commercial film.

Strange News (Continued) Dropped right in it Bird droppings may prove to be the key to solving a burglary in America. Two men have been arrested over a $8,400 heist in Medina, Ohio, after police tracked down their getaway car through the distinctive pattern of bird droppings on the bonnet.

Holey Bible A soldier’s bible from more than 100 years

ago still bears the scars of war – two bullet holes from where it “took the brunt” of a German machine-gun attack. Private Leslie Friston, who served with the Royal Army Medical Corps, was blinded and left with respiratory problems following a gas attack in 1917. As he lay recovering in hospital, a German aircraft passed overhead and machine-gunned the makeshift building’s tin roof. Two of the bullets struck Pte Friston’s soldier’s bible, which was next to him on a bedside table. Pte Friston, from Surbiton, Surrey, survived the war and brought the bible home to his family. He kept it close to him until his death in 1958, when his possessions were passed to his daughter Ena Thompson, now 87. “He said the bible saved his life as it took the brunt of the attack,” Mrs Thompson, from Bournemouth, Dorset, said. “If the bullets had landed just a few inches further towards him, he would not have survived – and I wouldn’t be here today. “He was incredibly lucky.”

Micronesia consists of some 600 islands grouped into four states: Kosrae, Pohnpei, Chuuk (Truk) and Yap. Occupying a very small total land mass, it is

scattered over an ocean expanse five times the size of France. Though formally independent, in 1986 Micronesia signed a "Compact of Free association" with the uS. under this, Washington took on responsibility for defence and gained the right to set up military bases and deny other nations access to Micronesia. In return, Micronesia received financial assistance averaging $100m per year, and the right of Micronesians to live and work in the uS. The islands, inhabited by Micronesian and Polynesian peoples, were colonized by Spain in the 17th century. Germany purchased them from Spain in 1898. The culture of Micronesia is a mixture of Filipino, Melanesian and Polynesian culture. The only newspaper in Micronesia, The Kaselehlie Press, is only printed every two weeks but is also available online. Nightlife is generally non-existent in Micronesia. By 10pm, bars and restaurants are already closed.

Currencies Direct News 3 things everyone should know about currency transfers Most expats living in Spain will have plenty of experience when it comes to making currency transfers. However, some may not be fully aware of all the options involved when it comes to moving your money abroad. Read on to discover the three things everyone should know about currency transfers… The currency market is one of the most volatile markets in the world When it comes to getting the most for your currency transfers, when you move your money is as important as how you choose to move it, particularly when you take into account the fact that the foreign exchange market is infamously volatile. In the age of Brexit GBP exchange rates can register daily fluctuations of up to 1%, which can make thousands of pounds worth of difference depending on the size of your transfer. By tracking the latest currency news with regular market updates you increase your chances of moving your money at the right time. Leading currency brokers like Currencies Direct also offer tools like rate alerts so you know as soon as the market moves in your favour and can time your transfer effectively. There’s more than one way to move your money The most common way of moving money overseas is what is known as a spot transfer, in which your transfer is made immediately at the current market rate. While this is great if you need to transfer your funds as soon as possible, most reputable currency brokers will offer a variety of different transfer options that can help you to move your money more efficiently. For instance, if the rate is currently favourable but you don’t need to make your transfer for a while a forward contract allows you to fix the exchange rate for up to twelve months. This is great in times of volatility as it can help

protect your transfer from any unfavourable shifts in the market, particularly useful when going through the long drawn out process of buying or selling a property abroad. Many currency specialists will also offer the ability to set up regular payments, automating recurring transfers, fee-free. This option is perfect for anyone moving money abroad regularly, such as when transferring your monthly pension payments overseas. Not all providers charge transfer fees! If you have ever made a currency transfer through a high street bank you will probably have found that the majority will issue a transfer fee every time you move your money. Of course if you make regular transfers this can quickly add up. Fortunately these fees can easily be avoided by transferring your money with a reputable currency broker, the majority of whom refrain from tacking on additional fees, ensuring you get the best return on your transfer. At Currencies Direct, we’ve helped over 250,000 customers save on their currency transfers since 1996. Just pop into your local Currencies Direct branch or give us a call to find out more about how you can save money on your currency transfers. Old News In The Month Of December A gander into the news in December from the distant years 1st December 1990 - Britain and France were joined as the last wall of rock separating the two halves of the Channel Tunnel was removed. It cost some £12 billion, more than double the original estimate. 3rd December 1988 - Claims by health minister Edwina Currie that eggs contained salmonella were branded incorrect. Recipe Of The Month A perfect starter for Christmas Lunch Caramelised onion and goat’s cheese tarts For the pastry 250g plain flour 30g parmesan cheese, grated 125g chilled butter, cubed 1 large egg, lightly beaten For the filling 3 large red onions, sliced 2 tbsp olive oil few thyme sprigs 6 tbsp onion marmalade 1 tbsp red wine vinegar

3. Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut out 6 rounds with the cutter. Use to line tartlet tins, pressing well into the edges. Trim off any excess from the top. Chill for 15 mins. 4. Heat the oven to 200°C, with a baking sheet in it. Place the tartlet tins on the baking sheet. Line the pastry cases with some baking parchment and fill with baking beans. Bake the tartlets blind for 10-15 mins until crisp on the base and pale golden. 5. Remove the parchment and baking beans from the pastry cases, and leave them on the hot baking sheet.

Method 1. For the pastry put the flour, cheese and butter in a food processor and blend to form crumbs. 2. Add the egg and 1-2 tbsp water, then mix again in the food processor, until the pastry comes together.

6. Fry the onion in the oil with half the thyme, very gently for 15 mins, to soften. Stir in the onion marmalade and vinegar. 7. To serve; divide the onions between the tartlets, top with a slice of goats cheese and the remaining thyme. Bake at 200C for 10 mins until warmed through and cheese just starting to melt.

Ac Yang A person with extreme skills or talent.

Youtube Yet another way to waste time at work. YOLO An overused acronym for "You only live once." There is an exception for those who believe in reincarnation or are cats. YODO A phrase made up to make fun of the pathetic teenagers that think they're so original saying "YOLO." Y Y is used as a shortening for "why" Because, If you pronounce "Y" correctly it sounds like saying "Why" This is often confused with "Ye" which means "yes" Using "Y" as a shortening for "Yes" is pathetic and incorrect. Yas An annoying expression used by girls expressing extreme liking. Yack To throw up, usually after drinking. Yale 1. Where future presidents 'went'. 2. Also where people 'graduate' then grow up to 'explore' the world, then choke on a prezel. Yeet Yeet is a versatile word that can be used as an exclamation, a verb, or even a noun. As an exclamation it can be used to express excitement, usually happily but also nervously. It can also be used as an exclamation of victory. Or as a battle cry or focus-shout while throwing or hitting something, like "HIII-YA".

When in its verb form it has different tenses with different spellings, like any other verb. (Present) I yeet (Past/Imperfect) I was yeeting (Past/Perfect) I yote (Pluperfect) I have yought (Future) I will yeet (Future perfect) I will have yought As a noun, 'a yeet' is the action of yeeting. Yeet can also be a feeling or emotion, usually like an adrenaline rush. Yellowcard A yellow card is a party foul or unacceptable behaviour at a party, such as spilling beer or being too loud. Yonks A long time. Yo 1) A contraction of the possessive prenominal adjective "your." 2) An informal address or title to one whose name is not known to another; can be used as an interrogative address. 3) A declaritive or imperative exclamation, whether alone or within a sentence. Ying To punch, slack, beat-up, jump, or knockout someone. Yoots Joe Pesci way of saying "youths". YMCA YMCA stands for you might catch aids. So dont stay at the YMCA. Yoga pants Pants that make anyone look like they have an arse. Yawn The only time some married men ever get to open their mouth. Yikes When you cant be using actual mainstream words like 'wow' and 'oh my god' and you use yikes to show how edgy and how much of a madlad you are. Yoghurt A very healthy thing. Tastes good with the crunchy stuff! Everyone should eat yoghurt!

Medicinal Cannabis CBD: How does it work in balancing our bodies? CBD (cannabidoil) — the rediscovered active ingredient from the flowers of the plant, contains no psycho-active THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and is therefore completely legal to obtain and use. Extraction of CBD takes place under heat and it has been found to be beneficial for pain, cramping, muscle tension, headaches and even epilepsy. CBD is used to assist the immune system because it can helps in cases of inflammatory diseases, sleep disorders, mood swings during menopause, depression and burn-out. Parkinson's and MS are considered as suitable for treatment with CBD too. Ingested as a dietary supplement or applied externally in a cream, this natural active ingredient offers a wide range of potential health benefits. Although these effects are very similar to those of hemp oil (which is made from the seeds and is used in kitchens to refine salads, vegetables, potato dishes and soups) it works differently. CBD is faster and more concentrated. Also, unlike hemp seed oil, it does not go through the digestive

tract but acts on the mucous membranes. Cannabinoids are naturally available in the human body and, even in their natural form, are considered calming, anticonvulsant, anti-inflammatory and immune-stabilising. When the internal "stocks" are all used up, the body is happy to absorb supplies from outside. The endo-cannabinoid system is part of the human nervous system. Receptors are located in nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, but also in cells in the heart, intestine, lungs and other organs. It basically regulates the nervous and immune system. Natural messengers are able to occupy these receptors, and we can find them mainly in the cannabis plant. They transmit messages between the cells in the brain and cause reactions. These receptors answer with an inhibiting effect, relieving anxiety or pain and being effective at calming. There is nothing better than natural active ingredients that our body already knows. Sentinella Random Joke :) We know you all love the jokes so much, so here is an extra random Christmas one for you :)  There was a man who worked for the Post Office whose job it was to process all the mail that had illegible addresses. One day, a letter came addressed in a shaky handwriting to God with no address. He thought he should open it to see what it was about. The letter read: Dear God, I am an 83 year old widow, living on a very small pension. Yesterday someone stole my purse. It had £100 in it, which was all the money I had until my next pension cheque. Next Sunday is Christmas, and I had invited two of my friends over for dinner. Without that money, I have nothing to buy food with. I have no family to turn to, and you are my only hope. Can you please help me? Sincerely, Edna The postal worker was touched. He showed the letter to all the other workers. Each one dug into his or her wallet and came up with a few pounds. By the time he made the rounds,

he had collected £96, which they put into an envelope and sent to the woman. The rest of the day, all the workers felt a warm glow thinking of Edna and the dinner she would be able to share with her friends. Christmas came and went. A few days later, another letter came from the same old lady to God. All the workers gathered around while the letter was opened. It read: Dear God, How can I ever thank you enough for what you did for me? Because of your gift of love, I was able to fix a glorious dinner for my friends. We had a very nice day and I told my friends of your wonderful gift. By the way, there was £4 missing. I think it must have been those G*** at the Post Office.

Rhythmic Gymnastic Championship Results For Club Miralmar The Base Cup of the individual Spanish Championship of Rhythmic Gymnastics took place in Murcia on the 7th - 10th November 2018

Club Miralmar in Malaga had four gymnasts competing in this Championship including our daughter, Charli Knight. The gymnast Lucia Alcala Telles managed to win the silver medal in the youth category, competing with more than 70 gymnasts from all over Spain. Lucia performed a brilliant hoop exercise and managed to get into a high position and stayed in second place right up to the end of the competition. She, with her companions of the other Andalusian Clubs, got the silver medal for being the second best Autonomy in all of Spain - Andalusia. Likewise, Maria Gonzalez also in the youth category got a well deserved 7th place in spite of quite a few mistakes. Without the mistakes she also would have had a position on the podium.

Carla Ledesma in the children’s category got position 15 out of 70 participating gymnasts, without doubt a very good position after having dropped the hoop.

Cadet, Charli Knight did a beautiful ball exercise with some inaccuracy due to nerves in a competition of such high level coming 28th out of 78 participating gymnasts.

Finally, the little ones of the club, for their first time in a competition at national level, and although they defended their exercise in the groups category, they didn't shine as they did the previous week where they were proclaimed Champions of Andalusia Base group in the category, Prebenjamin.

A-Z Of Spain Following on from The Sentinella’s journey through the alphabet to discover the joys of Spain. This month we take a look a what makes Spain ‘E’. Euro - This is the unit of curency in Spain and it appears to be a lot easier to spend than the pound!  Empanada - These are covered pies. They resemble the Cornish Pasty to some degree. The tuna variety is the most popular, which consists of layers of tuna, onion and tomato sandwiched between flaky pastry.

España - Spain, a country on Europe’s Iberian Peninsula which includes 17 autonomous regions, the capital city is Madrid. Spanish is the second most widely spoken language in the world. According to the 2013 OECD report, (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development), on average Spaniards devote 16 out of every 24 hours to leisure, eating, drinking and sleeping, they certainly know how to party! Spain is still one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.

& t i Fru Facts s Veg ychee L

Lychees contain an impressive array of vitamins, fibre and antioxidants. According to Lychees Online, the fruit has more vitamin C than the same amount of oranges or lemons, a significant amount of potassium and as much fibre as an apple (with the skin on). So, why else might you want to eat lychees? Flavonoids — antioxidant compounds found in certain fruits and vegetables, herbs and spices — are known for their role in helping to prevent chronic diseases like heart disease and cancer. Lychee contains quercetin, a powerful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties, cancer-fighting heart-healthy kaempferol and more. Antioxidants are nature's way of providing your cells with adequate defence against attack by reactive oxygen species (ROS), or free radicals. If you don't have an adequate supply of antioxidants to help squelch free radicals, then you can be at risk of oxidative stress, which leads to accelerated tissue and organ damage. Numerous studies have confirmed the benefits of antioxidants and the role they play in maintaining good health and reducing your risk of heart disease, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and cancer. Antioxidants also help slow down the ageing process, which can have immense effects on your skin health. Lychees are rich in antioxidant vitamin C, with more than 100 percent of the recommended daily amount of vitamin C in one cup. The flavonoids, fibre and antioxidants in lychees may also support heart health. In addition, oligonol derived from lychee fruit has been shown to increase nitric oxide levels in

animal studies. Increasing nitric oxide in your blood may open constricted blood vessels and lower your blood pressure. It should be noted, however, that oligonol is a mixture of antioxidants from lychee skin and other sources (such as green tea), but does not occur naturally in lychee fruit. The nutrients in lychee — including magnesium, copper, iron, vitamin C, manganese and folate — are required for blood circulation and formation. One of the most prominent nutrients in lychee fruit is vitamin C. Vitamin C has numerous functions in the human body, including acting as an essential co-factor in enzymatic reactions. In this way, it plays a role in your body's production of collagen, carnitine (which helps your body turn fat into energy) and catecholamines (hormones made by your adrenal glands), for starters. Vitamin C is also used by your body for wound healing, repairing and maintaining the health of your bones and teeth, and plays a role in helping your body absorb iron. Vitamin C is considered an anti-ageing vitamin too, and actually reversed age-related abnormalities in mice with a premature ageing disorder, restoring healthy ageing.

s Now b e l Ce en & cShane Th Ian M Mention the name ‘Ian McShane’ and most people immediately think of the loveable rogue ‘Lovejoy’ which he played on TV from 1986 and is still repeated today. However, McShane has enjoyed a very varied career, ranging from a lawless, foul-mouthed saloon owner in "Deadwood" to a tough, no-nonsense British gangster in "Sexy Beast." A natural at portraying complex anti-heroes and charismatic heavies, the classically trained actor was born in Blackburn, Lancs, to parents Irene (Cowley) and Harry McShane, who played football for Manchester United. He grew up in Manchester. McShane caught his first break in 1962 when he landed a lead role in "The Wild and the Willing." He later revealed that he had ditched a class at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art to audition for the role. Since then, the award-winning actor has gone on to grab the attention of audiences and critics alike with his unforgettable portrayals of scoundrels, kings, killers and thieves. Recently, he reprised his role as club owner/ex-assassin Winston opposite Keanu Reeves in "John Wick: Chapter 2," and also played Leland, a retired sheriff with violent tendencies, opposite Patrick Wilson in "The Hollow Point." He appeared alongside Johnny Harris and Ray Winstone in Thomas Napper's blistering boxing drama "Jawbone." On television, McShane stars as Mr Wednesday in Neil Gaiman's "American

Gods," the hit series for Starz produced by Michael Green and Bryan Fuller. McShane also starred as the notoriously fearsome pirate Blackbeard opposite Johnny Depp in Disney's worldwide blockbuster hit "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides." He was the priest/prophet/warrior Amphiarus opposite Dwayne Johnson in MGM's "Hercules," played lead dwarf Beith in the dark fantasy "Snow White and the Huntsman" and portrayed good King Bramwell in Bryan Singer's modern-day fairytale "Jack the Giant Slayer." McShane also appeared as Joe Strombel in Woody Allen's "Scoop." His universally praised performance as tough guy Teddy Bass in the cult indie hit "Sexy Beast" led one London critic to dub McShane as "The King of Cool." In a change of pace, he portrayed soft-spoken Meredith in the darkly perverse crime drama "44 Inch Chest," a film in which McShane not only starred, but also produced. McShane earned a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Drama Series for “Deadwood”. His compelling and gritty portrayal also scored him nominations for both Emmy and SAG Awards. He went on to collect yet another Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Mini-series for his riveting portrayal of the scheming, corrupt Waleran Bigod in the Emmy-nominated "Pillars of the Earth." More recently, he portrayed Sir Roger Scatcherd in the Julian Fellowes' mini-series "Dr Thorne" for ITV and also made an appearance as peacenik Brother Ray in HBO's juggernaut "Game of Thrones.” He has been married three times: to Suzan Farmer from 1964 to 1968, Ruth Post from 1968 to 1977 — a union which gave him two children — and his present wife, American-born Gwen Humble, from 1980 onwards. He now lives in the Venice beach area of Los Angeles.

To advertise call 664 210 468 or email Fake ad hoax Radio X presenter Chris Moyles has admitted he hoaxed the UK with a fake ad. The team posted a 'leaked' clip online and fans desperate to see the new John Lewis Christmas advert went into meltdown when they believed it to be the real thing. Moyles and the team at Radio X have taken ownership of the hoax, though, admitting they had faked the clip as a prank. Retailer John Lewis's festive advert is always one of the most eagerly anticipated commercials in the run-up to Christmas. The 'leaked ad' was viewed by followers on social media. The fake advert features Moyles, 44, playing the piano while dressed as Donald Duck, before turning around and winking at the camera. The attention-seeking prank seemed to go down well with most of the radio station's followers. A short clip had previously been posted on Twitter, and quickly went viral with news outlets speculating that it could be authentic. It begins with the camera zoomed in close on a Christmas tree and focuses on one particular ornament, an astronaut encircled in silver rings. As the camera pans down, Sir Elton John's Rocket Man is being played on the piano. The legendary singer is set to star in John Lewis's official Christmas ad this year, and is reportedly being paid £5million for his involvement. Stormzy student storm The University of Oxford has denied rejecting an offer from rapper Stormzy to fund a scholarship scheme for two black students. The British grime artist claims the university turned down his scholarship idea, which was then taken up by the University of Cambridge. In a statement on Twitter, Oxford said: "We have not received or turned down a proposal for student support from Stormzy and have been speaking to his team this morning to establish what happened. "We recognise the importance of Stormzy's support and share his ambition in encouraging more black students to take up university education." Stormy announced the scheme earlier this year on A-level results day at his old school, Harris City Academy, in Croydon, south London. It aims to encourage the admission of more black students to top universities, after none got into some Cambridge University colleges

Ant and Dec break-up confirmed Ant McPartlin has confirmed plans to take an 'extended break' from TV following his drink-drive conviction in March. His best friend and showbiz partner Declan Donnelly bravely fronted the remainder of Saturday Night Takeaway alone, and is now presenting I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here without Ant for the first time in the show's history. He is partnered in Australia by Holly Willoughby. “Ant’s wellbeing is at the forefront of everyone’s minds and he’s in a great place," a source told The Sun. “But now they are trying to work out how his comeback will plan out and how everything will work."

Ultrasound is applied using the head of an ultrasound probe that is placed in direct contact with your skin via a transmission coupling gel. Ultrasound machines convert electrical energy which generates sound waves. The absorption rate is most effective on: • Ligament • Tendon • Fascia • Joint capsule • Scar tissue

• Tissue heating • Local blood flow • Scar tissue breakdown

How Can Ultrasound Help You? The effect of ultrasound via an increase in local blood flow can be used to help reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation. The most common conditions treated with ultrasound include soft tissue injuries such as tendonitis, non-acute joint swelling (Arthritis) and muscle spasm. Most muscle and ligament injuries can benefit from therapeutic ultrasound.

The primary objectives are tissue repair and pain management. Therapeutic ultrasound has been shown to cause increases in: • Healing rates • Tissue relaxation

Amanda Edge, BscHonsRSA, is a fully qualified ultrasound therapist. See advert below.

Christmas Facts To get you all in the mood for it...! A traditional Christmas dinner in early England was the head of a pig prepared with mustard. According to a survey, 7 out of 10 British dogs get Christmas gifts from their doting owners. At Christmas, Ukrainians prepare a traditional twelve-course meal. A family’s youngest child watches through the window for the evening star to appear, a signal that the feast can begin. Electric Christmas tree lights were first used in 1895. Santa’s Reindeers are Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen. The movie ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’

(2000) features more than 52,000 Christmas lights, about 8,200 Christmas ornaments, and nearly 2,000 candy canes. The first Christmas card was created in England on December 9, 1842. Eating mince pies at Christmas dates back to the 16th century. It is still believed that to eat a mince pie on each of the Twelve Days of Christmas will bring 12 happy months in the year to follow. More diamonds are purchased at Christmas-time (31%) more than during any other holiday or occasion during the year. Queen Elizabeth’s Christmas message to the nation was televised for the first time on December 25, 1957.

Happy Christmas Everyone

People Who Come And Go House prices – how to work out what your house is worth on today’s market Selling a house is always a huge decision to make. And reaching a decision to sell a house one has enjoyed over years here in Spain is probably one of the most difficult decisions those of us living here can make. When we do make that big decision, how do we even begin to work out what price to put on it? Here is how to get a rough idea: Firstly, start by remembering what it cost you to buy, and any work you have done on the house, to fully understand whether you would be making a profit or a loss. Secondly consider the major features of your property that will be key to placing it within one price sector or another; country or village location, attached or detached, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, your outside space, pool or no pool, overlooked or private, views, access. These are the crucial factors that will classify which price bracket is most suitable for your property. Also important, do you have any paperwork problems still unresolved, and what is the physical condition of your property.

Once you have your list of key features, take some time keying these features into specialised property portals currently advertising properties for sale in your area, such as or This will give you a good feel for which price bracket your house fits into and will enable you to decide on whether you could be at the upper edge of that bracket, or perhaps give yourselves a competitive advantage by aiming at the lower end of the bracket. Once you have carried out this simple research, you will be in a much better position to compare what you have discovered with the local agents you invite to give a valuation. Remember, however, that the agents have a constant, up to date feel for what is acceptable or not to today’s buyers, so listening to their opinion is very important too. If you are thinking of selling, I am always happy to discuss finding the right price for your property and the best marketing plan for you. Wishing all my vendors a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! By Toni Waterman, Unspoilt Andalusia (see advertisement below)

‘I am a middle-aged mother and I moved out to Spain a year ago from England with my partner and our two chidren. My husband and kids have settled into life here well. My kids have made lots of friends and my husband has a great job. However, I’ve not been so fortunate. I can’t speak Spanish, I have made no friends, I haven’t got a job, plus I have put on weight lately. I feel very depressed and I wish I had never moved out here. What should I do?’ Depressed Mum. Penny says: ‘You are in a bad situation and unless you start to put in some effort it could get even worse. It seems to me as if you have just become lazy. Jobs don’t come to you. You must go and get them. Ask at some local restaurants. I bet one of them needs a waitress. As soon as you find a job the rest of your life will fall into place. Start to think positive and things will improve. If they don’t then move back to England and laze around there instead...

Axarquia Sports Page Torre Torrox Golf Society played its monthly competition at La Cala Golf Resort in November. With 60 holes of golf, La Cala is officially recognised by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation as the largest golf complex in the country. At La Cala you will find three fantastic layouts designed by the acclaimed American architect Cabell Robinson. The La Cala Resort Asia, America and Europa courses are all set within a dramatic landscape, requiring skill and accuracy to play a good round of golf. The course we played was the America, which consists of 18 holes, 72 par, 6763 yards. La Cala America is one of the most enjoyable golf courses in the region. The exciting landscape has you playing from elevated tees, across cavernous quarries and negotiating fantastically undulating fairways. This par-72 is popular in the area, and compared to the Asia and Europa golf courses, the America is the longest and considered by many as the toughest. It requires accurate and well-judged shot-making on the approach as nearly three-quarters of the greens are perched or

slightly elevated. The winner on the day with an impressive 38 points was Arndt van Braak, who also had three birdies on the day — as he played with the handicap secretary, his handicap is 4 definitely coming down! He was followed closely by Nigel Duffy and then third was Mr Colin Bird, who pulled out 21 points on the back nine. In the shortest drive competition, first, second and third were Clint Torres, Richard Wiggler and Harry Balzack.....well done gentlemen. The five Closest to the Pin competitions were won by Mike Pickard, Dave Brooks, Rob Townsend, Mark Pownell and the elderly Keith Evans. The ‘’Thanks for Turning Up’’ was won by Mr Mark Broad who nicked it on count back! The next competition is on 8th of December at Baviera Golf Club, so if you would like to play, look us up on Facebook and make contact to get your name down. FB: TorreTorrox Golf Society

) : a h a Jokes h Thanks to MP for the following jokes... A father put his 3 year old daughter to bed, told her a story and listened to her prayers which ended by saying: "God bless Mummy, God bless Daddy, and God bless Grandma and goodbye Grandpa." The father asked, "Why did you say goodbye Grandpa?" The little girl said, "I don't know, Daddy, it just seemed like the thing to do." The next day grandpa died. The father thought it was a strange coincidence. A few months later the father put the girl to bed and listened to her prayers which went like this: "God bless Mummy, God Bless Daddy and goodbye Grandma." The next day the grandmother died. “Jesus Christ,” thought the father, "This kid is in contact with the other side." Several weeks later when the girl was going to bed the dad heard her say: "God bless Mummy and goodbye Daddy.." He practically went into shock. He couldn't sleep all night and got up at the crack of dawn to go to his office. He was nervous as a cat all day, had lunch and watched the clock. He figured if he could get by until midnight he would be okay. He felt safe in the office, so instead of going home at the end of the day he stayed there, drinking coffee, looking at his watch and jumping at every sound. Finally, midnight arrived, he breathed a sigh of relief and went home. When he got home his wife said, "I've never seen you work so late, what's the matter?" He said, "I don't want to talk about it, I've just had the worst day of my life." She said, "You think you had a bad day, you'll never believe what happened to me this morning, my golf pro dropped dead in the middle of my lesson." ------------------------------------------------------------Paddy was on his deathbed and knew the end was near. His nurse, his wife, his daughter and 2 sons

are with him at his home in Belfast. He asks for 2 independent witnesses to be present and a camcorder be in place to record his last wishes. When all is ready he begins to speak: "My son Seamus, I want you to take the houses in Cultra." "My daughter Geraldine, you take the apartments over in Malone Road." "My son Patrick Junior, I want you to take the offices in the City centre." "Bridget, my dear wife, please take all the residential properties on the Upper Lisburn Road ." The nurse and witnesses are blown away. They did not realise the extent of Paddy's wealth. As he slips away, the nurse says to his wife, "Mrs O'Shaughnessy, my deepest condolences. Your husband must have been such a hard-working and wonderful man to have accumulated all this property".. "Property?”, his wife replies. “The f***** had a window cleaning round." ------------------------------------------------------------I saw a job advertised as a ladies private parts waxer’s assistant. Job includes knickers, preparing the area for waxing and rubbing in oil after waxing. When I asked at the job centre, they said I had to go to Cornwall. “Why, is that where the job is?” I asked “No” they replied, “That’s where the back of the queue is!” ------------------------------------------------------------Ron Chestna, 89, was pulled over at 2am and asked where he was going at that time of night. Ron replied, “I’m on my way to a lecture about alcohol abuse and it’s effect on the human body, as well as smoking and staying out late” “Really, who is giving this lecture at this time of night?” the officer asked Ron replied. “That would be the wife.”

Jokes h a ha :) Just got a job as a church bell ringer. It's my first day so they're just showing me the ropes. ------------------------------------------------------------If you're being chased by a police dog, try not to go through a tunnel, then on to a little seesaw, then jump through a hoop of fire. They're trained for that. ------------------------------------------------------------I noticed on my TV remote, there was a 'Cinema Surround' button. I pushed it. All of a sudden, a voice came from behind me saying, 'Move your head you fat twit.' ------------------------------------------------------------If Benny and Björn from ABBA had been called Steve and Dave, they would have been known as ASDA. ------------------------------------------------------------I tried to sell my Thomas the Tank Engine train set at the Antiques shop today. "You would of got more money if the fat controller wasn't missing," replied the assistant. "Yeah, you're probably right," I replied. "She's good at haggling." ------------------------------------------------------------My grandad rode national hunt horses until he was run down by a steamroller. Luckily for him, he went on to be a successful flat jockey. ------------------------------------------------------------I was in Madame Tussauds when I caught a glimpse of a waxed Jessica Ennis. "Get the f*** out of the ladies toilets!" she shouted, desperately pulling up her knickers. ------------------------------------------------------------Went to a Mary Poppins themed restaurant last night. Had Super cauliflower cheese, but the lobster was atrocious. ------------------------------------------------------------My wife's just been checking to see if she has everything ready for her first solo parachute

jump tomorrow. I said, "Have you got a spare pair of knickers with you?" "What, in case I poo myself?" She replied. "No." I said, "In case your main chute doesn't open." ------------------------------------------------------------Went to the cinema yesterday and was buying popcorn, a drink and some sweets. I said, "I'm ever so sorry, I've only got a £50 note." The lady said, "That's ok, you can put the sweets back!" ------------------------------------------------------------A blonde takes her car to the mechanics. He says “Nothing to worry about love, just s*** in the air filter” She replies, “Brilliant! How many times have I got to do that?” ------------------------------------------------------------They told me I’d never be good at Poetry because I’m Dyslexic. But so far I’ve made two vases and a jug and they are lovely. ------------------------------------------------------------Purchased a deodorant stick today. Instructions say "Remove cap & push up bottom" I can hardly walk but when I fart the room smells lovely.

ARIES: March 21-April 20 As winter settles in you experience some deep thoughts and emotions, reflecting on the how, when, where and why of existence. Love is in your heart and on your mind - give it plenty of space and nurturing

LIBRA: September 23 - October 22 You find yourself having super creative urges at the beginning of December. You want to sing, paint, dance and create your very own front door wreath made out of locally sourced vegetation and unusual objects. A week into the month, take a step back for some rest and relaxation

TAURUS: April 21-May 21 Embrace feelings of intensity – some painful moments may be more painful but the wonder-filled moments will be more wonderful than ever. Firm up travel plans on the 4th and 5th and you’ll be glad you did. Open up to friends on the 8th and 9th, embrace their compassion and realise how lucky you are to have them in your life

SCORPIO: October 23 - November 21 December gets off to a fabulous start whilst you revel in splendor and wonder. Your concepts are terrific, they will work wonders when they’re put in place, and ideally should be implemented during the first week. The 2nd week is slower, softer and more romantic turning sparks into fireworks!

GEMINI: May 22-June 21 You’ll feel inexplicably drawn toward helping others at the beginning of December, maybe volunteering at a soup kitchen, babysitting for overstressed neighbours or gathering donations for a local cause. You’re a naturally giving person and the more you indulge this aspect of your personality, the more fulfilled you’ll feel

SAGITTARIUS: November 22 - December 21 You start the month in a dreamlike state, with moods ruling. While it’s hard to get much accomplished at this time, embrace this slow, but deeply imaginative, period. Winter is the perfect backdrop for your mind to get wild with colourful creativity, whilst watching your dreams come into alignment with reality

CANCER: June 22-July 22 You’re likely to be feeling emotionally up and down around the 1st December, affected by the holiday season creeping up. Since you’re so sensitive, you’re probably picking up on signals coming from your surroundings. Instead of reacting, do what you can to centre yourself – practice yoga and go for walks

CAPRICORN: December 22 - January 20 Examine all details early in the month and observe the pattern emerging. Whether you’re a carpenter with a cabinetmaking specialty, a corporate lawyer or a cupcake salesperson, you’ll be responsible for a major breakthrough at work, thanks to your attention to the little things

LEO: July 23-August 23 If you look at an issue on the 1st, consider it and all aspects deeply and completely. If you decide to try a new approach go all out. Now is the time to give a hundred percent, turn 180ºs and take a new look at the world from this perspective. You`ll be astounded by what you find VIRGO: August 24-September 22 Your intellectual curiosity knows no bounds at the beginning of the month as you explore questions your colleagues never thought to raise and find answers that will shed new light on how to get things done. Outside of work, your explorations into how you fit into the scheme of things, relate with the people around you and the invisible ties that bind us, will transform the way you look at things in a major

AQUARIUS: January 21 - February 19 Your mind is very much on your career. Are you advancing at the rate you’d like to be? Are you happy with what you’re doing? Do you want to switch tracks? Are you not entirely sure, one way or another? The answers are all out there and, as long as you look for them with an honest heart and an open mind, you will find them PISCES: February 20 - March 20 There will be days when you should be on the alert for potential trouble brewing. No need to be in a state of paranoia but take red flags seriously when you see them. By the 2nd week of December help is at hand and you return to being loving, fun and all round successful
