We are finally back in Ojai, California after a rather interesting trip home. Firstly, at Malaga airport we were told Ty had not been registered on the flight so we had to hang about for an hour until he was finally added. Then followed a three hour delay on the flight from Malaga to Frankfurt. That was not too inconvenient as it simply meant hanging out in the airport lounge for a bit longer and sampling more of the food and drink! Then, at passport security, at LAX airport the following day we were told that my Green Card had expired that day, so we were lucky not to have booked the flight for one day later! On the 12-hour flight, Ty decided that he would only use the crib provided by the airline to jump around in, and I was his bed whenever he wanted to take a nap. Good for him, but not so good for me as it meant limited shut-eye. We hired a rent a car to get back to Ojai and they refused to install the child seat for us, saying it was illegal for them to do so. After a long flight, and all feeling exhausted, the last thing we wanted to do was work out how to install a car seat! Finally, after consulting how-to videos on the internet, my husband figured it out, and we were away. And finally, in this list of funny goings-ons, my laptop was left somewhere in LAX airport, so when we got home, we began the time-consuming task of calling around all the different sections of the airport to see if it had been handed in... at the time of writing this editorial, my laptop has not turned up, but I continue to live in hope.

Strange News Although, the truth is, I also see everything that happens in life as a major, all-telling synchronicity, so I am 100% sure there is a sign in the missing laptop.. big upcoming change perhaps? Letting go of the old to make way for the new? Well, I'll keep you posted ;)

Snakebite The body of a man has been found inside a giant snake. Akbar Salubiro, 25, went missing after setting off to harvest palm oil in a remote village on the island of west Sulawesi, Indonesia. Concerned friends and relatives found a giant reticulated python sprawled out in Akbar's own back garden the next evening - and feared he had been suffocated and swallowed. Akbar's lifeless body was found inside the serpent after horrified locals sliced open its belly using a 18-inch long hunting knife. 'When the snake was captured, the boots Akbar was wearing were clearly visible in the stomach of the snake,’ said a witness. Reticulated pythons are boa constrictors that suffocate their victims before swallowing them whole.

Auction-ear An ancient bronze ear from a Roman statue is to be sold at auction after being unearthed in a North Yorkshire field. The ear, dating back 1,800 years, is thought to have fallen off the statue when it was being transported. It was discovered by a metal detectorist and is expected to fetch around £300 when it is sold.

De Cotta Law - Divorce Working as a Family lawyer with a knowledge of English and Spanish laws and procedures, one thing that stands out is the concept of no-fault divorce. Spain in line with many countries in Europe introduced no-fault divorce some years ago. After three months of marriage either party can apply to the courts for a divorce without having to allege any grounds. In England & Wales as well as Scotland and Northern Ireland a reason must be given. In England there are five grounds: five years separation; two years separation; adultery; desertion and unreasonable behaviour. In addition to proving one of the five grounds, it must be shown that the marriage has broken down irretrievably. The most frequently stated ground in divorce petitions in England is unreasonable behaviour. The test for this is partly objective – in that it must be proved as a fact – and partly subjective in that it must show that this particular spouse could not live with the behaviour in question. Having read a great deal of case law over the years, I thought I had considered most possible scenarios. For example, a husband’s obsession with DIY and failure to complete projects in the family home led to the wife alleging and proving unreasonable behaviour that she could not live with. However, having just read the 24 pages of transcript and the decision in Owens v Owens (2017) EWCA Civ.182, I can only agree with the statement made as long ago as 1906 by Sir Gorrell Barnes P who attacked this aspect of law saying that matrimonial law in England is “full of inconsistencies, anomalies and inequalities amounting almost to absurdities ...”. The case of Owens hit the front pages when a wife was refused a divorce by the Judge on the

basis of the evidence that was presented in court. A detailed reading unveils disagreements over a present bought at an airport in Mexico, a restaurant meal with a friend, and a pub dinner where the husband claimed he was merely too tired to talk to his wife having worked in the garden for the day. As Lady Hallett stated in judgement, “What may be regarded as trivial disagreements in a happy marriage could be salt in the wound of an unhappy marriage”. Egg Shells The reason why you should be eating your eggshells - and how to prepare them safely Yes, they might be good for compost, but egg shells also have another important use. Each year in the US alone, Business Insider reports, the food industry is responsible for 150,000 tons of shell waste. We automatically bin our shells when making anything involving eggs. But instead of throwing them away, we should give some serious thought to eating them. Not just because of the environmental benefits, but also because of their nutritional value. Egg shells are a great and rich source of calcium because they are 95 per cent calcium carbonate which, incidentally is used as an antacid to relieve heartburn, acid indigestion, and upset stomach. One single egg shell contains around two grams of calcium which works out as being between two to four times our recommended daily allowance. This, however, is not a call to start mainlining raw eggshells. That

would be silly. Instead, boil the shells to blitz any harmful bacteria. After the shells are nicely boiled, you then bake them in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes with the temperature turned up to 200F. They should then grind nicely into a fine powder, which you can do in a blender. The powder remains a good source of calcium and has been shown to reduce pain and bone loss in women with senile osteoporosis. You don't need to eat the powder on its own.

Baby Changing Café customer horrified at 'rank' mum changing baby's nappy on table next to her Whether you have kids or not, everyone has an opinion on certain aspects of parenting. Breastfeeding, potty-training, co-sleeping, discipline, screen time, you name it, everyone's got their own personal standpoint. One woman recently felt moved to address another mum's actions - when she spotted her changing her baby's nappy at a nearby table in a cafe. "So, I usually grab something quick and cheap for lunch but decided to treat myself to a nice baked spud in an art gallery cafe," she begins on Mumsnet. "Half way through the said spud, I looked up to see the people on the table nearby were changing a baby's nappy on the table where they'd just eaten." It looks like her reaction did not go unnoticed. "My face must have been a bit of a picture because one of the women looked at me as if to

say 'what?'. "Feeling I had to justify myself, I said 'it's just that it's a bit grim changing a baby's nappy on a café table'. The conversation got a bit awkward when "the woman doing the changing asked if I was a mum.” "Instead of saying 'what difference would that make?', I said I had two children. "She said she didn't realise I was watching(?). I said it was more of a hygiene thing, but yes, it had put me off my lunch somewhat. "She replied that it was 'only a bit of wee.'" Clarifying the situation further, the woman explained she was the only customer in an area out of sight of the staff and the toilets, which had full changing facilities, "were ten paces away and pristine." Given the reaction of the mum and her party, the woman was worried she may have overreacted.

Funny Property Stories Here are a few real life property stories, if you have a funny story to tell be sure to let us know and we may publish it in next months edition I agreed to rent a flat at a great price, on the condition that I cleared out the belongings of the previous tenant (a very elderly gent who was a friend of the owner, and had passed away in hospital a few months before). I didn’t mind at all because it was mostly small furniture and books, plus a pantry full of paper bags and cooking pots. Not a problem! Moving-in day came and I was going about my task with gusto – so much so that I had worked up quite a sweat. Handily, in the pantry the old gent had stored several string bags full of lovely soft white cloths cut into small sizes, which I used to mop my perspiring brow. All was well until I stopped for a cuppa, and wondered just where these wonderful, lint-free, snuggly-soft cloths had come from… I dug a little deeper in one of the bags and saw

something which made me stop in my tracks; that all too familiar stitching that makes up the Y on the front of a pair of gent’s under crackers. I’d been wiping my face ALL DAY with an old man’s pants. ------------------------------------------------------------I hadn’t been in my house long (so didn’t know the neighbours well), when a removals van pulled up outside of a house that had been on the market for ages. The two men were very pleasant and hard working – one of them even broke off to help me with my shopping bags. As the owners weren’t there I returned their kindness by giving them both tea and biccies. Eventually they left. Then, two days later, the neighbours returned from holiday to find their house completely empty! Red-faced, I gave a description of the two men to the police, the men were never caught and the neighbours never spoke to me.

Ac Fall Back Programme The show that you watch while your main show is at a commercial. It is usually not as good as your main show.

Friend high The pleasant "high" feeling one acquires around close friends, often compared to being on some sort of drug. Accompanied by lots of laughing, stupidity, excitement, good conversation, and loud obnoxiousness, ie the act of getting "high" off another's good friendship vibes. Fluffer (noun) a person in the adult entertainment industry whose job it is to give male porno stars BJ’s in order to get them ready to perform. Fanks An alternative to ‘thank you’, Fanks was toughed up c. 2002 to mean more than just thank you. Fanks is the ultimate gratitude of an individual towards another. Festivus n. An alternative to the crass commercialization of Christmas, typically celebrated on December 23. It involves The Airing of Grievances (telling your family and friends all the ways they have disappointed you during the year) and does not end until the Feats of Strength (pinning the head of the family) are accomplished. A plain, metal pole is used in lieu of a Christmas tree, because decorations (such as tinsel) is distracting from the true meaning of the holiday. Facebook wit The intellegent humour that nearly everyone seems to gain when they have a half an hour to contemplate a witty response. It is usually a bad comparison to a person's actually conversational skills since they can sit and contemplate the response for as long as they need. Football minute When someone asks for a minute to do something, even though they know it will take much longer than 60 seconds.

Econnoisseur There's a difference between a feminazi and a feminist. A feminist is someone who supports womens' rights. Simple as that. Thinks girls in poorer countries should go to school, is opposed to those music videos that consist of like, three minutes of boob shots, etc. Equality is cool, guys. Feminism is cool. A feminazi is not a feminist. Feminists believe in equal rights for us, feminazis just make us look stupid. Feminazis believe that all men are idiots, wearing a bra is a symbol of oppression (personally I find bras comfortable), shaving our legs is apparently showing that we GIVE INTO MALE PRESSURE TO BE ATTRACTIVE HOLY S***, snowmen must be called "snowpeople". Friends People who are aware of how retarded you are and still manage to be seen in public with you. People who make you laugh till you pee your pants. People who cry for you when one of your special items disappear. When you don’t have enough money to get an ice cream, they chip in. Knows all of your internet passwords. Who would never make you cry just to be mean. Forgoogle A thought runs through your head while you are busy doing something. You make a mental note to look it up when you are done. By the time you are ready to google it you realise you've forgotten what the heck it was you wanted to find out. Fomo "Fear of missing out". The fear that if you miss a party or event you will miss out on something great. Flake n. An unreliable person; someone who agrees to do something, but never follows through. Fam A word used to describe your friend. one that you can trust dearly and someone you consider as family. Feeling Drake Feeling down thinking about your ex or what could of been with a person you felt a connection with.

Buttock Tattoo Terror Lands Couple In Hospital A furious row has broken out between a local tattoo artist and his client after what started out as a routine inking session, both of them requiring emergency hospital treatment. Vintage film fan and part time plus size model Tracey Munter (23), had visited the Black Ink Tattoo Emporium in Carr Lane last week to have the finishing touches applied to a double buttock representation of the chariot race scene from the iconic 1959 film, Ben Hur. Tattooist Jason Burns takes up the story. “It was a big job in more ways than one.” he told us. “I’d just lit a roll up and was finishing off a centurions helmet. It’s delicate, close up work. Next thing is, I sense a slight ripple in her buttock cleavage area just around Charlton Heston’s whip, and a hissing sound – more of a whoosh than a rasp – and before I know what’s happening, there’s a flame shooting from her arse up to my roll-up and my beards gone up like an Aussie bush fire.” Jason says he rushed to the studio sink to quell the flames, only to turn round and see Tracey frantically fanning her buttock area with a damp towel. The flames had travelled down the gas cloud and set fire to her 'thong' which was smoking like a cheap firework. “To be honest”, said Jason, “I didn’t even realise she was wearing one. You’d need a mining license and a torch to find out for sure. She could have had a complete wardrobe in there and I’d have been none the wiser.” Jason and Tracey were taken to Hull Royal Infirmary A&E where they were treated for minor burns and shock. Both are adamant that the other is to blame. “I’m furious” said Jason, “I’ve got a face like a mange-ridden dog and my left eyebrow's not there any more. I don’t know about Ben Hur – 'Gone With The Wind’s' more like it. You don’t

just let rip in someone’s face like that. It’s dangerous.” (to say the least!) “I’m still in agony,” said Tracey, Jason shouldn’t have had a fag on the go, and there’s no way I’d guff on purpose. He’d had me up on his bench on all fours for nearly an hour. I can only put up with that for so long before nature takes its course. Ted Walters from the Humberside Fire and Rescue service wasn’t surprised when we told him what had happened. “People just don’t appreciate the dangers.... he told us, “We get called out to more flatulence ignition incidents than kitchen fires these days, now people have moved over to oven chips. We have a slogan, ‘Flame 'n' fart – keep ’em apart’. Anyone engaging in an arse inking scenario would do well to bear that in mind in future.”

Raw, pure cacao can support weight loss. In the 1500's chocolate was promoted in medical and scientific treatises as a stimulant, love potion, cure for impotence and an aid to conception.

No 5. Cacao... A Brief History

Mayan emperors were often buried with jars of chocolate by their side.

The word cacao originates from the Mayan word Ka'kau', with evidence of cacao dating back to as early as 600 BCE.

“Chocolate is a divine, celestial drink, the sweat of the stars, the vital seed, divine nectar, the drink of gods, panacea and universal medicine” – Geronimo Piperni

The Mayans revered cacao as the “drink of the gods,” it was valued so highly due to its healing and medicinal properties, they even used the beans as currency.

Chocolate continues to be one of the most popular ways to celebrate important occasions and express feelings of love and caring.

In 1502, Christopher Columbus landed in America, where he discovered the cacao bean through trading with the Aztecs. Once he returned to Spain, he bought the cacao beans back for the King and Queen. The Spanish kept cacao a secret from the rest of Europe for over 100 years, using it just like the the Mayan and Aztec culture, as a health tonic.

Gift From The Gods In the Mayan's written texts they refer to cacao as god's food. They carved sacred images of the cacao pods onto their palaces and temples. Cacao was exclusively for kings and the male elite, the cacao pod was their symbol for life and fertility, and was used only for rituals and sacred occasions.

The Food Delicious, indulgent and mildly addictive, the cacao bean contains 300 identifiable chemical compounds making it one of nature’s most complex foods known to man.

Cacao contains a small amount of several different psychoactive substances that act as stimulants and mood elevators.

Monthly Baking Blog By Susan Jane A Macaron Moment Making macarons for a wedding earlier this month provided me with the perfect blog topic for this months baking blog. A macaron is a sweet meringue based confection made with egg white sugar and ground almonds. The macaron filling commonly consists of a ganache, buttercream or jam sandwiched between the two shells. Macarons are characterised by the smooth glossy top, slightly rough edges and the soft squidgy interior. They are versatile little treats that can be made in a variety of colours and flavours, they are also a suitable treat for people on gluten free diets. Some say the macaron is a tricky thing to make, I find them quite straightforward as long as you stick to the recipe... so go on have a go!!

slowly add the granulated sugar and continue whisking until the egg whites are glossy, fluffy, and hold soft peaks. 3. Sift confectioners' sugar and ground almonds in a separate bowl and quickly fold the almond mixture into the egg whites. Should you wish to add a colour you can do so at this stage, by adding carefully using the end of a cocktail stick. 4. Spoon into a piping bag fitted with a plain round tip. Pipe the batter onto the baking sheet in small rounds of 3cm diameter, leaving space between the disks. Or using a teaspoon, carefully place onto the baking sheet. Let the macarons stand at room temperature until they form a skin on top, 30 – 40 mins before placing in the oven. 5. Pre heat oven to 140 degrees fan. 6. Bake macarons until set but not browned, about 12-14 minutes; let them cool completely before filling.

Ingredients 125g Ground Almonds 175g Icing Sugar 3 Egg Whites 75g Granulated Sugar Method 1. Line a baking sheet with either greaseproof paper or if you have one a silicone macaron baking mat. 2. Whisk egg whites until whites are foamy;

Quick & easy Macaron Filling Ideas Chocolate Ganache Peanut Butter Jam Butter Cream - 150g butter, softened 75g icing sugar creamed together, flavour with mint, orange, lime or lemon zest or an alternative flavouring of your choice.

With our service we want to make it easier for everybody to taste the local products. Our mission is to advocate the greatness of simplicity, and to bring non-industrialized, simple, clean, locally produced goods directly from the local producers to your home and table in Spain. Mother’s Day Facts The month of May is the month that Mother's Day is celebrated in both the USA and Spain... Here are some fun facts about the special day. 1) In Greek mythology spring festivals were held in honour of the maternal goddess called, Rhea. She was the wife of Cronus and was believed to be the mother of many deities. 2) In 250 B.C. ancient Romans celebrated a spring festival called, Hilaria. This was dedicated to a mother goddess named, Cybele, on the Ides of March. Her followers would make offerings at the temple, hold parades, play games and also have masquerades. It lasted three days. 3) In the 1600’s England, Mothering Sunday took place on the 4th Sunday of Lent. It began with a prayer service in honour of the Virgin Mary. Afterwards children would present their mums with flowers. 4) In 1870 a female activist, writer and poet by the name of Julia Ward (she wrote the “Battle Hymn of the Republic”) suggested a day of peace and strongly advocated other women to stand up against the war. From this plea she was able to get Boston to recognise mothers on the second Sunday of June.

8) Pink and red carnations are given to mother’s that are still alive, while white ones are for those that have passed away. 9) Studies and research now show that giving a bouquet of flowers has many positive health and psychological benefits. Fun Mother’s Day Facts 10) In the vast majority of the world’s languages, the word for “mother” begins with the letter M. 11) Ancient Egyptians believed cats were sacred animals and revered ‘Bast’ as the mother of all cats on Earth. 12) In the United States alone, around 122 million phone calls are made to mums on Mother’s Day. 13) Approximately $14 billion dollars is spent on Mother’s Day. Happy Mothers Day Young or seasoned we wish you all a Happy Mother’s Day xx

5) Anna Jarvis was also a woman that may have been behind our traditional Mother’s Day celebration on the second Sunday of May. Anna never had any children, but wanted to carry out her own mother’s wishes of having a day just for mums. Anna tirelessly campaigned and on May 8th, 1914 President Woodrow Wilson signed a Joint Resolution designating the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. Mothers Day Surprises What will you surprise your mother with? Common gifts include: cards, flowers, meals in restaurants, jewellery, gift cards, clothing, trips to a spa, books, CDs, housewares and even gardening. 6) Mother’s Day sees around one quarter of all flowers purchased throughout the year falling on this holiday. 7) Carnations are very popular flowers for Mother’s Day and are thought to be made from the tears of Jesus’ mother (Mary) when she wept at his feet the day He was crucified.

Diagnosis Arthritis??? We have all heard of arthritis but don´t have a full understanding as to what it is and whether our aches and pains are due to it or could be something else I recently had a client who had suddenly developed pain in his knee. Upon visiting his doctor he was referred for an x-ray and was subsequently diagnosed with osteo-arthritis. Osteo-arthritis, also known as degenerative arthritis, is when the cartilage (the slick cushioning surface on the end of the bones) wears away and the bone rubs against the bone causing pain, swelling and stiffness. This usually develops overtime and can cause the joints to lose strength and eventually the pain can be constant. Although there was proof of arthritis in my client, because his other knee was not x-rayed as a comparison, it still did not explain the sudden onset of pain in one knee and not the other. Overtime we all develop wear and tear of the joints and as we get older we feel the normal aches and pains of our joints. On investigation we actually found the pain wasn´t from arthritis, it was from a sprain in one of his liga-

ments, the soft tissue that supports the knee cap and attaches bone to bone. Ligaments and other soft tissue like tendons and muscles will not show up on an x-ray. After treatment and kinesiology taping he noticed an immediate improvement which proved my theory that it wasn´t the arthritis causing the pain. The lesson learned is that we don´t always have to resign ourselves to the pain, believing it is old age and arthritis. If, however, it is arthritis it is still manageable: Balance activities with rest / Use hot and cold therapies / Regular exercise / Maintain a healthy weight / Strengthen the muscle around the joint for added support / Avoid excessive repetitive movements / Maintain the muscles around the joint with regular remedial massage So in conclusion, don´t always accept that a joint pain is automatically arthritis, always explore the other possibilities that could solve the symptoms by speaking with your therapist. Gary Barlow was forced to explain himself when a Take That fan confronted him with an unfortunate tattoo which was all down to the hit-maker's 'lazy' autograph signing. On an ITV special An Evening With Take That, the fan told Gary that she had had his signature inked on her wrist, but instead of reading 'Gary', the scribble read 'Gay'. The fan explained that she had asked Gary to sign her wrist with a Sharpie pen a few months ago. The Let It Shine hit-maker immediately saw where her story was going and interrupted her, saying: 'You didn't get it tattooed, did you?' The fan replied that she had and then showed the inking which clearly read 'Gay'. Gary explained that he was 'lazy' when signing his name, but did insist that he had tried to make up for it by adding a kiss beneath the scribble. The young woman asked her pop idol if he would add something new to the inking and giggling band mate Mark Owen couldn't resist shouting: 'Maybe an "R".'

Scared Spice A furious Mel B has teamed up with her estranged husband’s ex-girlfriend with a pledge to ‘take him down’ and protect the former Spice Girl’s £50 million fortune, The Mail on Sunday has revealed. The pact was agreed after Mel B, 41, made a flurry of ‘tearful and emotional’ phone calls to Nicole Contreras. They both claim that Hollywood producer and director Stephen Belafonte, 41, subjected them to a ruthless campaign of emotional and physical abuse. Ms Contreras, 40, a former model, has a 13year-old daughter with Belafonte as a result of their six-year relationship. ‘I will do anything I can to help Mel in her fight,’ she said. ‘I know better than anyone what she has gone through because I lived with him for six years and he abused me too. She won a restraining order against her husband, with whom she has a fiveyear-old daughter. The Leeds-born star claimed Belafonte assaulted her at least three times during their marriage. She said he flew into a rage when she was due to film a segment for The X Factor with singer Usher in July 2012, allegedly punching her in the face and splitting her lip.’ Belafonte allegedly made the family nanny pregnant and forced Mel B to ‘participate in sex with him and random women and would film the encounters’. He then allegedly blackmailed her with the tapes. Belafonte has vehemently denied all claims against him and filed his own court papers in LA seeking alimony. Despite cutting a casual figure, with a cap pulled low over his brow, the former England star was instantly recognisable to more than one passer-by. The former England football captain, 41, took the delay in good spirits, and reportedly even took selfies with star-struck fans.

& t i u Fr Facts Veg Onions Never mind the tears they bring on – the humble onion is an ace ally in your fight against disease. A prized member of the lily family, onions lavish you with health benefits while adding oodles of taste to your food Sofrito sauce—typically associated with Spanish cuisine but actually used in a variety of cuisines worldwide —has been the topic of a recent study that provides some fascinating new information about onions. The four sauce ingredients represented some of our very favourite foods: extra virgin olive oil, garlic, onions, and tomatoes. In this study, several methods for preparation of the sofrito sauce were investigated, but one of the consistent study findings was the ability of onion to help increase the bioavailability of lycopene (a wellstudied, health-promoting carotenoid) from the tomatoes. Here’s a quick glimpse at more of their incredible health benefits: A powerful compound called quercetin in onions is known to play a significant role in preventing cancer. The phytochemicals in onions – along with their vitamin C – help improve immunity. Onions contain chromium, which assists in regulating blood sugar. For centuries, onions have been used to reduce inflammation and heal infections. Raw onion lowers the production of bad cholesterol (LDL), thus keeping your heart healthy. Consumption of onions has been shown to increase the levels of omega-3 oxylipins in the liver, and this may help explain the ability of onions to help regulate proper blood fat levels

as well as blood levels of cholesterol. Got stung by a honey bee? Apply onion juice on the area for immediate relief from the pain and burning sensation. Onions scavenge free radicals, thereby reducing your risk of developing gastric ulcers. The total polyphenol content of onions is much higher than many people expect. (Polyphenols are one of the largest categories of phytonutrients in food. This category includes all flavonoids as well as tannins.) Those bright green tops of green onions are rich in Vitamin A, so do use them often. Onions are also surprisingly high in flavonoids. For example, on an ounce-for-ounce basis, onions rank in the top 10 of commonly eaten vegetables in their quercetin content. The flavonoid content of onions can vary widely, depending on the exact variety and growing conditions. The flavonoids in onion tend to be more concentrated in the outer layers of the flesh. To maximise your health benefits, peel off as little of the fleshy, edible portion as possible when removing the onion's outermost paper layer. Which type of onions are the healthiest? Researchers from Cornell studied 11 onion varieties, and found that shallots and Western yellow onions were the healthiest for their phenolic and flavonoid content.

Foster Care To The Rescue Since starting their charity in 2011, Axarquia Animal Rescue has re-homed more than 1650 animals with homes being found throughout Europe as well as in Spain. One of their most valuable assets has to be the volunteers who provide temporary homes to these lost souls, the fosterers, who give them a chance of a happy and safe life. Without foster homes, the charity just could not operate and re-home so many abandoned and abused dogs and cats. Foster mum, Pam, has been taking animals into her home for AAR for the past four years. Dogs of different shapes and sizes from abandoned newborn puppies to a more senior 10 year old have passed through her door. Here is Sia, her latest ward, who was found amongst the garbage in rubbish bins along with six of her siblings at only 5 days old. Sia is one of the lucky ones, many are not found or they are found too late. Pam’s efforts have not been in vain. Now Sia is a healthy pup who is moving on to her new forever family. Pam says “I will miss her, but I know my heart has room now for another one who needs me. This is the bittersweet time when you have to hand over your precious little one to their new adoptive

family, but the rewards are knowing that you are handing over a happy and loving pet and knowing she will continue to flourish in a caring home”. On fostering Pam added “Throughout, the support of the AAR team has been unfailing and fostering is something I will never regret doing”. Axarquia Animal Rescue are constantly looking for special people like Pam to foster the animals that come into their care. Anyone interested in becoming a fosterer, whether it be short-term (ie for a few days or weeks) or longer until their forever home is found, can find out more by visiting AAR’s website: and clicking on the Foster tab or by e-mailing

People Who Come And Go - So It Looks Like It’s Really Happening... Gulp! It looks like the UK really, truly is pulling out of the EU, and I almost thought it might just have been some weird dream I had! And now all I hear and read about is how it looks like the Spanish government will be using the approximately 300,000 Brits living permanently in Spain as negotiating currency for permitting the Spaniards living in the UK to remain (around 100,000, by the way), and vice versa. Surely, I hear every day from Brits living here, we who have chosen to live, work or retire in another country should not be forced to give up our jobs, way of lives, homes, etc.? I personally am optimistic that an agreement that suits everyone will be found, because it HAS to be found! How can anyone force the British, retired or working here and with homes here, businesses, friends, investments, and their whole lives, to move away? – it just doesn’t seem real or possible. And vice versa for the Spanish living in the UK. This seems to be an issue that is much talked about in both the Spanish and British press at the moment, and with 25% of all British people living in Europe based in Spain, with a bit of luck this issue will be one of the first to be resolved in the huge boggy quagmire of multi na-

tional negotiation on an infinite variety of issues that will need to be covered over the coming two years. Of the various questions thrown up by the whole Brexit saga, most of my British clients are mainly concerned about whether as a pensioner living in Spain they will still be covered by the Spanish health service. The UK does have social security and reciprocal health service arrangements with many non EU countries and I think it is most likely, given the number of British living and holidaying here, that an agreement with Spain will need to be reached. Likewise, perhaps the insurance companies will see a business opportunity and will be ready with good private health plans as an alternative option. What is clear is that I have many non EU clients who live and work here in Spain, and even the British were doing just that, decades before the EU was even created. So my message is that while the sun shines, there will always be a way! Let’s not panic, and see how things unfold… By Toni Waterman, Unspoilt Andalusia (see advertisement below)

La Vaqueria - Benamargosa Don't you just love Spain this time of year? We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world. When I first arrived here, 30 years ago, I was enchanted by the simplicity of life here in rural Andalucia, or, more specifically, the Axarquia: like a step back in time, very much like the village that I grew up in. Although things are now more modern the attitude of the "mangurinos" (nickname for the inhabitants of Benamargosa) remains the same. The openness, the live and let live attitude, the close affiliation with the "campo" (land) has not changed. This time of year everyone has their plot planted with an abundance of crops and at La Vaqueria our raised beds are brimming with

produce. We try to use as much of our our own fruit and vegetables as possible in our menus, fortunately, we still have vans passing selling a variety of Spanish goods too! Many of my recipes are handed down through the style of cooking could be described as Olde English!! favouring extensive use of herbs (all grown her on the premises) and also our own particular take on a variety of international dishes. Every day (bar Mondays when we are closed) we offer a five euro lunch - a plate full of lovingly prepared delicious home made food, and, of course, we always have home made cake and refreshments! A beautiful time of year for a drive out along our fertile valley, La Vaqueria is the perfect spot to drop in for a chat, browse, shop or peruse.......looking forward to seeing you! Please mention The Sentinella when responding to adverts Here are five uses for the essential oil, Geranium: 1. Wrinkle Reducer – Because geranium oil is an astringent, it has the power to minimise the look of wrinit because kles tightens facial skin and slows down the effects of aging. Add two drops of geranium oil to your face lotion and apply it twice daily. After a week or two, you will see the look of your wrinkles begin to fade away. 2. Muscle Toner – Geranium oil helps in tightening and contracting muscles. It can prevent your muscles and skin from sagging, and it can give you a more toned abdominal section. Create a massage oil by mixing five drops of geranium oil with one tablespoon of jojoba oil and massage it into your skin, focusing on your muscles. 3. Infection Fighter – The antibacterial prop

erties found in geranium oil help to protect your body from infection. Geranium oil can stop bacteria from growing on the skin, like on a wound. To do this, rub two drops of geranium oil onto the affected area and cover it with gauze; you can repeat this remedy twice a day until the wound or cut is healed. 4. Healing Helper – Geranium oil helps to speed up the healing process of cuts, wounds, and incisions. It also helps in fading the look of scars and other spots on the skin quickly. 5. Blood Clot Inducer – Geranium oil causes the contraction of blood vessels and, therefore, helps to stop blood flow; it also speeds up the formation of blood clots. This helps in the healing of wounds or incisions, and it keeps toxins from entering the body.

A Taste Of Thailand If anyone is visiting London and likes a nice Thai then read on.. The first UK Thai Square Restaurant was opened during 1996, in The Strand, Central London. Now, having several venues in London and also other UK locations, with more planned, Thai cuisine can be enjoyed, at many destinations, with this multi award-winning company. Ingredients are flown in daily, from Thailand. Mixed starters is a sharing dish and includes vegetable spring rolls, chicken satay and much more. This is a firm favourite. Mains include

stir-fried dishes, plus curried and grilled cuisine. Seafood, noodles and rice dishes also feature on their splendid menu. Bangkok lamb and Chu Chi Goong (Tiger prawn in chuchee curry, cooked with coconut cream, lime leaf and sweet basil) have a following of devotees. A selection of superb desserts complete the dining experience. The brigade of chefs ensure high-quality, with both cooking and presentations, providing subtle and also intense fragrances and flavours, at all times. The service is impeccable. Exotic cocktails, plus wines and drinks, from worldwide destinations, are available and I found the multi award-winning Monsoon Valley Thai wines, exceptional. From their Premium Range, Colombard (white), Shiraz (red) and Shiraz (rosé) are all chosen regularly. Having splendid bouquets and being very well struc-

tured these productions are enjoyed by many. Chenin Blanc Late Harvest is ‘flagship’, superbly aromatic and has nectar-like qualities. Impressive – very impressive! The grapes for Monsoon Valley wines come from ‘floating vineyards’ and the Hua Hin Hills Vineyard. The wines are known for their quality and unique character. Monsoon Valley wines can be found at most 5-star hotels and resorts in Thailand and at many restaurants, globally. Thai Square venues are located in areas of great interest. For example, Putney Bridge is famous for the Boat Race. Fulham Palace is nearby, plus Wimbledon, Richmond and Twickenham can all be easily accessed. Thai Square Putney Bridge has fantastic views over the River Thames. All dietary requirements can be catered for, plus parties and celebrations easily

accommodated. All details of venues, plus wines/drinks information can be found on the respective websites. Thai Square Putney Bridge 2-4 Lower Richmond Road, Putney, London SW15 1LB Tel: 020 8780 1811 Email: Email:

) : a h a Jokes h Thanks to AP & MP for the following jokes The bartender was washing his glasses, when an elderly Irishman came in. With great difficulty, the Irishman hoisted his bad leg over the barstool, pulled himself up painfully, and asked for a sip of Irish whiskey. The Irishman looked down the bar and said, "Is that Jesus down there?" The bartender nodded, so the Irishman told him to give Jesus an Irish whiskey too. The next patron to come in was an ailing Italian with a hunched back, who moved very slowly. He shuffled up to the barstool and asked for a glass of Chianti. He also looked down the bar and asked if that was Jesus sitting at the end of the bar. The bartender nodded, so the Italian said to give him a glass of Chianti too. The third patron to enter the bar was a Scouser, who swaggered into the bar and yelled, "Barkeeper, giv us a lager der la! Hey, is dat God's Boy down dere?" The barkeeper nodded, so the Scouser told him to give Jesus a lager, too. As Jesus got up to leave, he walked over to the Irishman and touched him and said, "For your kindness, you are healed!" The Irishman felt the strength comeback to his leg, so he got up and danced a jig out the door. Jesus touched the Italian and said, "For your kindness, you are healed!" The Italian felt his back straighten, so he raised his hands above his head and did a flip out the door. "He's taken her appendix out!" -------------------------------------------------------------

Ginger Bamber Section

A rich man and a poor man are both buying anniversary gifts for their wives. "What are you getting your wife?" asks the poor man. And the rich man says "I'm getting her a diamond ring and a Mercedes." "Why both?" asks the poor man. And the rich man says "That way if she doesn't like the ring she can still enjoy the Mercedes when she returns the ring." And then the rich man asks the poor man "What are you getting your wife?" And the poor man says "She's a ginger, I'm buying her a pair of slippers and a dildo. That way if she doesn't like the slippers she can go f*** herself."
