Happy Valentine’s day to all our readers this month... it’s the time to celebrate your Love, whether that be with a spouse, a partner, or even a child, parent, sibling, or pet. When we love, we shine, so it’s worth engaging in some active loving! Talking of shining, this month I’m celebrating as my new Light book is now launched – The Light: A Book of Knowing. This one includes chapters from 22 luminaries, including the Dalai Lama, Anita Moorjani, Bruce Lipton, Deva Premal and Miten, Joe Vitale, and Dada Vaswani. The magical new book will help you shine your own Light even brighter, while also helping others to shine theirs. In turn, this will create a whirlwind of manifestation magic in your life and things will start unfolding in the highest and best way possible for you and others around you... after all, that's the beauty of the Light! It’s a follow on book to The Light: A Book of Wisdom, which I wrote and published in 2013. That one is now available in eight languages including Chinese, Russian, and Spanish. Prince Charles read it and it is also in Nelson Mandela’s library.

I hope, from the depths of my heart, that you enjoy reading this book, and that you continue to shine and spread your Light to a world that needs a whole lot more LOVING right now. Admittedly, it took me a while longer than I had

Strange News originally planned to complete this book mainly because, as you probably already know, I had an unplanned baby boy in the process (how's that for the Light in action?!) To order the book just enter The Light: A Book of Knowing into Amazon and it’s the one with the gold-colored cover. When you shine your Light the world will ignite! Thank you in advance for your support...! I’m now working on the third and final book in this three-part series – The Light: A Book of Truth.

Hollyweed Someone gave Los Angeles a laugh on New Year’s Day, as people woke up to find the iconic ‘Hollywood’ sign had been defaced to read ‘Hollyweed’. Even Snoop Dogg was pleased at the alteration, tweeting: ‘Hollyweed – that’s where I get my mail’. The famous letters were erected in 1923, when they originally read ‘Hollywoodland’. Put up to promote a housing development, the last several letters deteriorated in the 1940s. The part that remains was restored in 1978.

A Cut Beyond A man has had scissors removed from his abdomen – left behind during surgery 18 years ago – after reporting a stomach ache that was nearly two decades in the making. Ma Van Nhat, now 54, underwent surgery in 1998 after a car accident and only recently discovered that doctors had left an unwelcome gift behind when they closed him up. Doctors in Vietnam discovered the 6ins scissors near his colon when a recent ultrasound scan was conducted after Nhat reported stomach pains. He had a three-hour operation to remove the scissors and is reported to be “doing well.” Officials said they were searching for the doctors who performed the surgery, but have not yet tracked down any culprits.

Metacognition Sentences Our own thoughts..... If I had a dollar for every girl that found me unattractive, they'd eventually find me attractive. Today a man knocked on my door and asked for a small donation towards the local swinming pool, so I gave him a glass of water. Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity. I'm great at multi-tasking--I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at once. If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame. Take my advice — I'm not using it. My wife and I were happy for twenty years; then we met. Hospitality is the art of making guests feel like they're at home when you wish they were.

Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes. Ever stop to think and forget to start again? Women spend more time wondering what men are thinking than men spend thinking. He who laughs last thinks slowest. Is it wrong that only one company makes the game Monopoly? I was going to give him a nasty look, but he already had one. Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine. I was going to wear my camouflage shirt today, but I couldn't find it. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Health Questions & Answers Dr. Sentinella answers your questions... 1. Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true? A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it...don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap. 2. Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables? A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat turkey or chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable slop. 3. Q: Is beer or wine bad for me? A: Look, it goes to the earlier point about fruits and vegetables. As we all know, scientists divide everything in the world into three categories: animal, mineral, and vegetable. We all know that beer and wine are not animal, and they are not on the periodic table of elements, so that only leaves one thing, right? My advice: Have a burger and a beer and enjoy your liquid vegetables. 4. Q: How can I calculate my body fat ratio? A: Well, if you have a body, and you have body fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc. 5. Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program? A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is No Pain -- Good.

6. Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you? A: You're not listening. Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you? 7. Q: What's the real secret to healthier eating? A: Thicker gravy. 8. Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle? A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach. 9. Q: Is chocolate bad for me? A: Are you crazy? Cocoa beans...another vegetable. It's the best feel-good food around!

Interesting Facts... A French colony until the 1953, the power struggle which ensued between royalists and the communist group Pathet Lao also saw the country caught up in the Vietnam War. Communist forces overthrew the monarchy in 1975, heralding years of isolation. After the fall of the Soviet Union in the 1990s, Laos began opening up to the world. But despite economic reforms, the country remains poor and heavily dependent on foreign aid. Most Laotians live in rural areas, with around 80% working in agriculture mostly growing rice. The state has made no secret of its huge hydropower ambitions and its desire to become the "battery" of Southeast Asia. Laos is the most heavily bombed country in the world. More than two billion tons of bombs were dropped by the US on Laos during the Vietnam War. Laos is one of the largest opium producers in the whole of Asia.

Harry Potter Reading Harry Potter makes you a better person according to science - here's why.. The magical world J.K. Rowling weaved for us was full of whimsy, and, as the stories progressed, as flawed and frightening as our own. And it's the Harry Potter series which, according to scientific research, will make you a better person. In fact, children who read the books and identify with Harry are more open-minded and less likely to be prejudiced against minority groups, according to a paper published in the Journal of Applied Psychology. As any die-hard fan will tell you, the books are about friendship and morality as much as they are a classic tale about the battle between good and evil. The research looked at three different groups of children and adolescents from age 10 upwards. In each of these groups, the participants who both understood and could discuss the more

complex themes within the books were more likely to be sensitive to the plight of minority or marginalised groups (like immigrants). There are plenty of social issues depicted in the books which have echoes in our own history. There are marginalised and persecuted groups of magical being, such as giants and centaurs. Terms such as Pureblood and Mudblood bring to mind Nazi Germany, as well as any country or regime which has enforced a caste system. Identifying with Harry is indicative of an accepting nature because of what he's like. While he doesn't have Hermione's brains, nor is his appearance that of a classical hero, he treats everyone as an equal - perhaps because he knows all too well what it's like to be treated badly. It's his kindness and acceptance of others which makes him a hero as much as his deeds, and inspires adults to be as much of a hero as possible. But considering the author behind the books, perhaps this is no surprise

Clinica Casa Blanca - What Is The Bowen Technique? BOWTECH (The original Bowen Technique), is a safe non-manipulative, fast and effective system, for the treatment of pain, inflammation, joint discomfort, spinal misalignment, muscle and tendon pain and internal ailments which is an aid to healing.

the frail and elderly and even pregnant women.

Because the Bowen Technique works on the whole body, it is possible to treat more than one ailment at the same time, whether they are acute or chronic. That means e.g., you are suffering from bronchitis, menstrual problems, back, shoulder or neck problems, migraine, or any combination of these or other illnesses, they can all be successfully treated in one session ( in the same session). A second session is normally recommended as reinforcement. Even if you are suffering from a long standing complaint usually only a few sessions are necessary to improve your condition. The results are generally long lasting unless there is re-injury.

The BOWEN TECHNIQUE was developed in the late 50s by the late TOM BOWEN (19161992) in Geelong, Australia.

Because of the body's high tolerance level of the Bowen Technique, the treatment is appropriate for everyone, from new born babies to

A BOWTECH session consists of several series of gentle moves through light-weight clothing (or with direct skin contact) in any position comfortable to the patient.

The benefits of the Bowentechnique: Headaches or Migraines - Internal ailments Spinal misalignment - Back pain - Sciatica Neck and shoulder pain - Joint discomfort Heel / foot pain - Arthritis - Sports injuries Restricted mobility - Repetitive strain injury Whiplash - Postural problems Depression - anxiety but also: Tinnitus - Tennis elbow Carpal tunnel syndrome - Asthma, Bronchitis Digestive problems‌ and more. Ac Courtney The name of a girl who is beautiful, strong, and intelligent. One who is easy to fall in love with but impossible to let go. She is funny, exciting, and enthusiastic. Courtney has an amazing personality that appeals to every person fortunate enough to meet her. Her eyes are captivating, her smile, intoxicating, and her heart lights the darkest, coldest souls and fills them with happiness. She is the reason why I believe in love. Creeper A person who does weird things, like stares at you while you sleep, or looks at you for hours through a window. Usually a close friend or relative. You know right away if that person is a creeper or does creeper things. It is not hard to spot the creeper. Chase The coolest f****r ever. Often seen with bitches and a cane. Call of Duty An amazing way to keep your virginity. Cubicle Coma When you wake up and feel engergised but as soon as you enter the work place, a wave of exhaustion runs over you and you have trouble staying awake for the rest of your work day. Amazingly, once you leave the hellish work atmosphere, you suddenly feel energised and ready to run a marathon. Check your Totem A reference from the Christopher Nolan movie Inception that suggests that a person should examine their totem (small personal object) in order to determine whether they are in reality or in delusional dreamland. Chiptease When you buy a bag of chips thinking that it will be full of chips but when you open the bag it's barely full.

Cobra Yawn The involuntary spraying of saliva while yawning. Much like the venom spray from a cobra. In most cases the yawner doesn't realise it has happened only finding the aftermath once the yawn is over. Cougar An older woman who frequents clubs in order to score with a much younger man. The cougar can be anyone from an overly surgically altered wind tunnel victim, to an absolute sad and bloated old horn-meister, to a real hottie or milf. Cactus Legs The feeling on a woman's legs as a result of not having shaved. Cyberchondriac Someone who spends their time searching medical websites for diseases they convince themselves they actually have. Camel Toe When her pants are so tight you can read her lips! Carcolepsy A condition affecting buddies on a trip who fall asleep as soon as the car starts moving, providing no company or driving help. Chronoptimist A person who always under estimates the time necessary to do something or get somewhere. Cheat Chain When one kid copies answers from a smart kid in class, then another kid copies from him/her, and then someone copies off the kid who copied off the kid who copied from the smart kid, etc. Cockblocked by Steve Jobs The act or reactive measure when the opposite sex makes eye-contact with you and then proceeds to plug in their iPod as a defense mechanism to prevent you from making a move on them. Computer Face To squint and kind of frown as you look at your computer to give the illusion that you are in fact very busy analyzing something vital to your work.

Top Famous Love Stories Do you believe in true love? Do you believe in love at first sight? Do you believe in love lasting forever? I think that these love stories will renew or reinforce your faith in love... They are the most famous love stories in history and literature, they are immortal.

is said that while fighting a battle against Romans, Antony got false news of Cleopatra's death. Shattered, he fell on his sword. When Cleopatra learned about Antony 's death, she was shocked. And she took her own life.

Romeo and Juliet This is probably the most famous lovers ever. This couple has become a synonym for love itself. Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy by William Shakespeare. Their love story is very tragic. The tale of two teenagers from two feuding families who fall in love at first sight and then marry, become true lovers and then risk it all for their love.

Cleopatra and Mark Antony The true love story of Antony and Cleopatra is one of the most memorable, intriguing and moving of all times. The story of these two historical characters had later been dramatised by William Shakespeare and is still staged all over the world. The relationship of Antony and Cleopatra is a true test of love. They fell in love at first sight. The relationship between these two powerful people put the country of Egypt in a powerful position. But their love affair outraged the Romans who were wary of the growing powers of the Egyptians. Despite all the threats, Anthony and Cleopatra got married. It

Paris and Helena Recounted in Homer's Iliad, the story of Helen of Troy and the Trojan War is a Greek heroic legend, combining fact and fiction. Helen of Troy is considered one the most beautiful women in all literature. She was married to Menelaus, king of Sparta. Paris, son of King Priam of Troy, fell in love with Helen and abducted her, taking her back to Troy. The Greeks assembled a great army, led by Menelaus's brother, Agamemnon, to retrieve Helen. Troy was destroyed. Helen returned safely to Sparta, where she lived happily with Menelaus for the rest of her life.

9 Things I Hate About Everyone I’m usually a very nice person, but there are limits 1. People who point at their wrist while asking for the time.... I know where my watch is pal, where the hell is yours? Do I point at my crotch when I ask where the toilet is? 2. People who are willing to get off their ass to search the entire room for the T.V. remote because they refuse to walk to the T.V. and change the channel manually. 3. When people say "Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too". Damn right! What good is cake if you can't eat it? 4. When people say "It's always the last place you look". Of course it is. Why the hell would you keep looking after you've found it? Do people do this? Who and where are they? Gonna Kick their asses!

5. When people say while watching a film "Did you see that?". No Loser, I paid 8â‚Ź to come to the cinema and stare at the damn floor you daft person. 6. People who ask "Can I ask you a question?".... Didn't really give me a choice there, did ya sunshine? 7. When something is 'new and improved!' Which is it? If it's new, then there has never been anything before it. If it's an improvement, then there must have been something before it, couldn't be new. 8. When people say "life is short". What the hell?? Life is the longest damn thing anyone ever does!! What can you do that's longer? 9. When you are waiting for the bus and someone asks "Has the bus come yet?". If the bus came would I be standing here!!!

Food As Medicine Welcome to our Food As Medicine section... Each month we will be featuring different fresh food items and showing you how they help us all to stay healthy and happy. We'll also be suggesting how you can use your diet to address many common ailments that affect us all from time to time. No 2. Almond A Brief History‌ By 4,000 B.C. nearly all ancient civilisations were eating wild almonds. The cultivated sweet almond tree (Prunus amygdalu var. dulcis) has its origins in the deserts and mountain slopes of central and southwest Asia. The nutrient dense kernel, which is actually a fruit, contains no putrefactive bacteria and became a convenient food source for early explorers and traders travelling the "Silk Road" between Asia and the Mediterranean. This affected widespread cultivation of the almond tree which thrived in the Mediterranean climate and before long, hillside almond culture became well established across Spain, France and Italy. Spain remains the second largest almond producer in the world. The Food... Wonderfully delicious tasting and fantastically nutritious, almonds have long been revered as one of the original superfoods. The kernels are among the richest sources of health-benefitting nutrients. For optimum wellbeing, make sure to include a handful of shelled almonds in your diet daily. The Medicine... In addition to healthy monounsaturated fats and vitamin E, almonds are high in essential minerals including manganese, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc and selenium and are packed with all of the important B-complex vitamins excluding B12. Almonds can also be used in the treatment of: Colon and bowel problems, Diabetes, Kidney problems, Hyperacidity, Diarrhoea, Weak muscles, nerves and brain and Sexual dysfunction. The Side Effects... Reduces cardiovascular disease, Protects against high blood pressure, Lowers cholesterol, Protects against Diabetes, Weight loss, Help Prevent Gallstones.

Did You Know? The English word almond is derived from the French amande, which in turn is a derivative of the old Latin word for almond amygdalus meaning "tonsil plum." The Italian word for almond is mandorla. Italian musical instrument makers adopted the pleasing oval shape of the almond for the body of the lute-like instrument that evolved in the 18th century called the mandolino (mandolin). And finally... A bus driver was taking a group of OAP’s on an outing. "Thank you for feeding me all these almonds" he said to Doris, the group organiser, "but why don't you eat them yourself?" Doris smiled, "When you lose your own teeth, you just like to suck the chocolate off the outside." For more information please call Olivia on 632 572 251. Visit our website: See main advert below

Monthly Baking Blog By Susan Jane ‘Bake it in RED’ has to be the theme for this months baking blog. What could be a more scrumptious way to seduce your loved one this Valentines Day than with these decadent Red Velvet Brownies? At this point, I have to say that red velvet cake has never been a real favourite of mine, to me it is never quite ‘chocolatey’ enough to be a chocolate cake, not vanilla enough to qualify as a traditional sponge and too much red colouring can quite often be, well, just off putting! A true red velvet creation should be the perfect marriage of a dense buttery cake with a mild chocolate flavour. I am however a huge chocolate brownie fan and this recipe is no exception. These fudgy chocolate brownies have lots of buttery vanilla flavour; They are finished off with luscious cream cheese swirls and as per any traditional brownie have delicious squidgy centres. This ‘Food Network’ recipe is easy to make and is perfect for brownie making beginners.

For the Cheesecake Swirl topping: 225g cream cheese, softened 50g granulated sugar 1 egg yolk 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract Make the brownie layer first. • Preheat the oven to 200/fan180 degrees. Line a baking tin approx 25cm x 15 cm with greaseproof paper. • In a small bowl, whisk the 2 eggs together until thick and creamy. Set aside. • Melt the butter in the microwave. • Add in the sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, red food colouring (add enough to turn the mixture quite red), white vinegar, and 2 eggs. Stir everything together by hand. • Add in the whisked eggs. • Fold in the flour to the brownie batter and mix taking care not to over mix. • Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, leaving about 3-4 tablespoons on one side for the top. Create the cheesecake swirl. • Beat the softened cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla in a medium bowl until completely smooth.

Ingredients: 2 large eggs 115g Butter 200g Sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 21g unsweetened cocoa powder A pinch of salt Red food colouring in liquid or gel form 1 teaspoon white vinegar 95g Plain flour

• Dollop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture on top of the prepared brownie batter. Cover with the last few Tablespoons of brownie batter. Glide a knife through the layers, creating a swirl pattern. • Bake the brownies for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting into squares. Cover brownies and store at room temperature for 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to 6 days. Brownies will also freeze well for up to 2 months.

Enjoy! Sue x

Teenage girl Teenage girl 'disappears' for days without telling her dad - so he exacts the perfect revenge Parents have numerous diabolical ways of doling out some tough love and justice, especially where their teenage kids are concerned. Long gone are the days when you'd simply send the offending adolescent to their room, or ground them, or stop their pocket money. Now there's the internet, and the infinite possibilities that it offers. One cunning dad used this fully to advantage his when his teenage daughter skipped town for an entire weekend without telling her parents. 'Worst dad' Taking to Craigslist may seem a little extreme, but then again, if your child disappeared for 48 hours you'd probably be tempted to lock them

at the top of a tower until they reached adulthood. Instead, "the worst dad in the entirety of the United States of America" decided to sell a 2004 Honda Civic Coupe - his daughter's car. "I have been totally unfair in giving my 17-yearold a good running car that gets great mileage," he wrote. "It's completely unreasonable for her to pay for the regular maintenance that has been performed on the car since purchase. "Totally not okay for her to have a touchscreen stereo with a DVD player, Pandora radio, and Bluetooth capabilities. The car has less than 160k on it with a lot of life on it. Had the vehicle inspected by a mechanic and had the oil changed after taking it away and parking in my garage since November. "Hopefully your child can be home at a reasonable hour and not disappear for the weekend without telling you where they are." It's clearly one nil to dad on this occasion.

Random Jokes With all the new technology regarding fertility recently, a 65-year-old friend of mine was able to give birth. When she was discharged from the hospital and went home, I went to visit. 'May I see the new baby?' I asked 'Not yet,' She said 'I'll make coffee and we can talk for a while first.' Thirty minutes had passed, and I asked, 'May I see the new baby now?' 'No, not yet,' She said. After another few minutes had elapsed, I asked again, 'May I see the baby now?' 'No, not yet,' replied my friend. Growing very impatient, I asked, 'Well, when can I see the baby?' 'WHEN HE CRIES!' she told me. 'WHEN HE CRIES?' I demanded. 'Why do I have to wait until he CRIES?' 'BECAUSE I FORGOT WHERE I PUT HIM, O.K.?'

The Meaning Of February The birthstone for February is Amethyst. Two zodiac signs for February are Aquarius (January 20 - February 18) and Pisces (February 19 - March 20) Viola (plant) and the Primrose are the birth flowers. February is the 2nd month of the year and is commonly known as the month of love. It brings us George Washington's Birthday, Valentine's Day, and the shortest month of the year. In the Gregorian calendar, February is the second month of the year. Most of the months have 30 or 31 days in a month but February is shorter. February has 28 days until Julius Caesar gave it 29 and 30 days every four years. This is because the Roman emperor Augustus took one day from February and added that to August because August was a month that was named after him.

Black History Month is celebrated in Canada and United States. National Day of the Sun is celebrated in Argentina. February 14 - Valentine's Day The largest American sporting event of the year, the Super Bowl, is held in February. Birthstone: Amethyst The Welsh call February "y mis bach" which means "little month".

& t i u Fr Facts ts Veg Aprico Apricots are widely loved for their delicate flavour and have a variety of uses in cooking. But there are other benefits to this beautiful fruit too … The carotenoids and other vitamins – especially pro-vitamin A and beta carotene – present in apricots help with eye health. Consuming two or three servings per day helps to strengthen the optic nerve and prevent age-related macular degeneration (ARMD), one of the major causes of loss of sight in older people. It also lowers the risk of neovascular ARMD, prolongs vision in people suffering from retinitis pigmentosa and delays the loss of peripheral vision. Apricots, when ripened naturally, are a rich source of antioxidants, required by the body to aid natural functioning. The more antioxidants in the body, the higher the rate of elimination of harmful toxins from it. Antioxidants also get rid of damaging free radicals. The high level of vitamin A is useful for the growth of cells in the body and helps to improve the immune system. Dried and fresh apricots contain a special kind of soluble fibre that is particularly beneficial as it helps in absorbing essential nutrients. It melts into a gel-like substance and helps in breaking down fatty acids. It also helps to keep you safe from gastrointestinal disorders and protects from constipation and constipation-induced haemorrhoids. The high amount of soluble fibre is also beneficial to heart health, as it reduces the LDL – or bad cholesterol – content in the body. At the same time, it also helps you increase the levels of HDL or good cholesterol. Consuming just half a cup of apricots every day is useful and beneficial for your heart. The potassium in apricots further balances the electrolyte levels and ensures that the muscles

of your heart work to the best of their ability and remain healthy. Antioxidants also stunt age-related heart diseases and weaknesses. Fruits like apricots – and those belonging to the same family – are high in potassium content, which is extremely beneficial. When potassium combines with sodium or salt, it regulates the water levels within and between cells. Potassium is also required to keep the blood pressure levels stable. The iron content in apricots is helpful in preventing anaemia, often characterised by dizziness, weakness, fatigue, nausea and inability to carry out day-to-day activities due to persistent tiredness. Apricot contains “non-haeme” iron which gets absorbed slowly, gradually and much more effectively. The rich levels of antioxidants in apricots are also helpful in lowering your risk of developing cancer. Apricot kernels have been found to kill cancerous growths without apparent side effects. Apricots help with skin health too, due to their vitamin A, vitamin C and phytonutrients. The antioxidants also slow down the process of ageing by facilitating faster cell production that replaces the layer of dead and worn out cells, thus renewing the skin layers and removing fine wrinkles. Apricots are rich in calcium and potassium, required for bone formation and bone development. Lack of calcium leads to osteoporosis and brittle bones and without potassium, all the calcium that you consume would be released in the bloodstream, eventually getting evicted from the body.

Love Quotes In Spanish Here are some great examples of love quotes in Spanish from all time periods La medida del amor es amar sin medida. The measure of love is to love without measuring. (San Agustín) El amor que se alimenta de regalos siempre está hambriento. Love that feeds on gifts is always hungry. (Anónimo) A batallas de amor, campos de plumas. In the fight for love, a soft playing field. (Luis de Góngora) El amor semeja un árbol: se inclina por su propio peso, arraiga profundamente en todo nuestro ser y a veces sigue verdeciendo en las ruinas de un corazón. Love resembles a tree: it bends under its own weight, deeply rooted in our being and sometimes turns green in the ruins of a heart. (Victor Hugo) Entre lo que existe y lo que no existe, el es-

pacio es el amor. The space between what exists and what doesn't is love. (Anónimo) El amor es como la salsa mayonesa: cuando se corta, hay que tirarlo y empezar otro nuevo. Love is like mayonaise: when it separates, you've got to throw it away and start again. (Enrique Jardiel Poncela) Con la moral corregimos los errores de nuestros instintos y con el amor corregimos los errores de nuestra moral. With morality we correct the mistakes of our instincts, and with love we correct the mistakes of our morals. (José Ortega y Gasset) El amor, como ciego que es, impide a los amantes ver las divertidas tonterías que cometen. Love is blind, it stops lovers seeing the silly things they do. People Who Come And Go - Making A Fresh Start In Spain! Well, 2017 has come around, and the Springtime property market is absurdly busy already. It appears that the whole of Europe is packing their bags and heading to a home in the sun! So, what should you be thinking about if you wish to make a fresh start here? After many years of working in the business here are my top tips: If you possibly can, keep a home base in your country of origin. So many people sold up completely a few years ago and came over when the prices were so high that selling their properties in their home countries was the only way of buying here. So if you can possibly afford, even if you have to downsize, to keep a base at home, do so. Not everyone likes it when they get here, so don’t close the door on the known, in favour only of the unknown. Do your homework thoroughly before you commit. Decide on the area you like best first. Ensure you are happy with your choice of property - is a country property definitely the right thing for you, or will it make you too isolated if you wish to integrate? Or does a village

house sound like just what you want, but will it be too noisy? Get your budget right. If you’re considering borrowing against your future property, remember you may only achieve a small percentage of the total value, so don’t bother viewing high value country houses if you don’t have the right funds. Always tell your agent if you need to borrow money against a property – some houses may not be eligible for mortgages. And remember to add around 10% for purchase costs. Don’t forget to listen to the advice of your agent, as well as your lawyer. As agents we spend 100% of our time checking out properties and we know the local market very well. Don’t believe everything you read in the foreign press on buying in Spain, so much of it is very inaccurate. And finally, don’t buy if you wish to make a fast profit. The market is recovering but it looks unlikely that prices will race up as before. Buy to enjoy, not to make money! By Toni Waterman, Unspoilt Andalusia (see advertisement below)

Asbestos - Have You Been In Contact?

In this edition, I thought I would look at a number of questions that often arise and that make people worried about the possibility of making a claim. My message is, if in doubt ask!

breathing difficulties can be attributed to asbestos. This is the point we have to prove in all respiratory disease cases, not just asbestos related but also, for example, silicosis – medical evidence is required to prove a link.

I CANNOT REMEMBER WHERE I WORKED OR THE COMPANY I WORKED FOR NO LONGER EXISTS. It is not unusual for companies that traded in the 1960’s, for example, to have long since stopped trading. With investigations I can trace insurers who provided cover for these companies and they are obliged to deal with the claims.Even if you are hazy about the exact name of a company or your period of employment with them, I can obtain your work history from HM Revenue & Customs and this provides confirmation of who you worked for all those years ago.

Claims for breathing problems caused by exposure to asbestos can be complex but the quicker the claim is started the quicker these issues can be dealt with. So, if you are concerned about your particular situation or have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch. I am happy to talk to you free of charge.

I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH AN ASBESTOS CONDITION BUT I DID NOT WORK WITH ASBESTOS. I always like to meet my clients and it is surprising how often, when you start talking about a persons work history, what they remember. Often, it turns out that even if a person did not actually work with asbestos, they worked alongside people who did and therefore came into contact with dust. Another possibility, and a particularly sad one in my experience, is a wife who comes into contact with asbestos from her husband’s work clothes. A RELATIVE HAS DIED FROM AN ASBESTOS RELATED CONDITION BEFORE MAKING A CLAIM It is not widely known that claims can be made even though the person affected has died (provided the claim is made within 3 years of death). The claim is made on behalf of the persons estate. DIAGNOSING AN ASBESTOS RELATED CONDITION There are a number of conditions that can be caused by exposure to asbestos, including lung cancer. The main issue is whether the

Will Smith’s character Howard, says, “Time, love and death connect every single human being on Earth. We long for love. We wish we had more time. And we fear death.” Three years later, Howard is a shell of a man, alone, silent, and empty after the death of his sixyear-old daughter from a rare disease. He spends his days in his office constructing elaborate mazes using domino tiles, only to knock them all down in one fell swoop and start over. At night, in his apartment, he writes bitter dia-

tribes railing at Time, Love and Death, and then mails these notes to their subjects, complete with stamps but no address. His business partners, played by Winslet, Norton and Peña, are understandably nervous because Howard was the charismatic force driving the agency and is the majority shareholder. With sliding profits, they want to buy him out, but he refuses to discuss such details in his withdrawn state. Norton is so concerned that he hires a private investigator (Dowd) to spy on Howard, and she manages to retrieve his three notes from a mailbox. Then, magically, Norton stumbles upon a solution when he is taken with an attractive young woman auditioning for an ad (Knightley) and decides to follow her across the street to a theater… Star Rating: ***/*****

‘The 'Big Cats' are here. We are a group of Jaguar enthusiasts living in Andalucia and have just celebrated our first birthday. We have a meeting each month for a meal and a good old chat about our cars. On occasions we organise something rather more special, Mystery Tours or Weekends Away. The Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club is the largest Jaguar Club in the world and was formed in 1984, by members of other Jaguar Clubs, for the enthusiast who not only used, but maintained or restored their SS, Jaguar or Daimler. Contact Philip Wray on 669 434 457 or Join El Valle! El Valle is one of Axarquia’s most successful and longest running social clubs. We are based in the Lake Vinuela area, 10 km inland from Velez Malaga, and most members live fairly locally but we also welcome people from the coast and further afield. At our monthly meetings you can find out about our wide range of activities that range from the cultural and gastronomic to quizzes, games and films. We also organise days out and short trips away. Through its members El Valle has links to groups that enjoy a variety of pursuits including leisurely scenic walks, more energetic cross-country hash runs, photography, quad biking, drama, bird watching and dancing. So whatever your interests El Valle has something for you! We meet on the first Mon of each month (apart from Aug when we take a break!) at the Camping Bar, Lake Vinuela. Please visit for directions. Meetings start 7:30 but we start arriving from 7pm so come early and introduce yourself so that we can help you make the most of what El Valle has to offer. You can also meet us on Fri mornings from 11:3012:30 at Meson Sara at the Puente don Manuel crossroads to join us, book an event or have a chat.
