Misleading? Not Again Minister Anderson!!! The Tynwald Standards Committee is already looking at recent statements to decide whether or not the Health Minister, David Anderson, is guilty of misleading Tynwald and the House of Keys. They will now be sent a further instance to consider.
Minister Anderson and his Chief Executive gave evidence to the Social Affairs Policy Committee in January this year regarding the review of colorectal surgery conducted in November . They told this Tynwald Committee that, “The review has concluded that the cases were all appropriately treated and that the surgical procedures adopted were acceptable” and that there was nothing within the Report that gave cause for concern.
Kate Beecroft, the Party’s Health Spokesperson, said “They must have read a different Report than the one that I have seen. I cannot agree with the statements made by the Minister and his Chief Executive and am very concerned by the contents of the Report and concerned that they appear to have misled a Committee of Tynwald. I had not seen the Report before the July sitting of Tynwald but had heard rumours and I asked the Minister if he stood by the statements made in January. He had the opportunity to correct matters then if those statements were inaccurate. We will be sending this Report to the Standards Committee and asking them to consider it, with statements made, as well.”
