Contents As we finally enter the warmer part of 2020, and our thoughts start to turn to outdoor activities and bank holidays, long term residents of the town will not be surprised to learn that a recent survey has listed Tonbridge in the top 50 places to live, and the best in Kent. Could it be that our homes cost less than our neighbours in Sevenoaks? Our abundance of schools and proximity to the city can’t be a bad thing. Our high street is home to a wide variety of independent stores for special gifts and treats, as well as the essentials, and there is a very wide choice of cuisine from all over the globe.

In Tonbridge we are lucky, we have an abundance of green spaces like the Racecourse Sportsground and the award-winning Hayesden Country Park. Our river is a draw for paddlers of all craft, and we have a variety of birds making it their home, ducks, swans, cormorants and kingfishers to name a few. Most of us will have whiled away a few hours by the Medway’s banks. The summer months in Tonbridge are filled with community activities, the castle lawn becomes a great setting for afternoon music, and evening plays and films. You’ll find our guide full of events and community groups to enjoy our beautiful town, both inside and out, so that you can make the most of the “best place to live in Kent.”

What’s on in Tonbridge This edition is produced by Tonbridge Town Team for the information of the town’s residents, distributed free of charge, and designed & printed by Absolute Creative Print. Tonbridge Town Team What is the Tonbridge Town Team? The Tonbridge Town Team was established as a result of the Portas Review published in 2011. The main aim is help make Tonbridge a vibrant and exciting place to live, work, visit and do business. The team achieve this by linking together businesses, local government, charities, clubs and the population as a whole. There are lots of organisations, businesses and individuals who are doing fantastic things in Tonbridge and so the team set out to work with them and celebrate their achievements. They can make even more of an impact on the town by encouraging innovation and entrepreneurialism, and by building on the community spirit that exists in Tonbridge and the surrounding area. The town team’s vision is an inclusive one that values all members of the community and seeks to build bridges and enable all to prosper in the surrounding area.

By working together and concentrating on what we can do rather than what we can’t, by being open to new ideas and matching enthusiasm with patient resolve we can continue to make our community not just a good place, but a great place to live. Jenny Lewis, Chairman
