Health, Wellbeing and Employment: An Innovation Forum 1.30pm to 4pm 4th March 2013 James Wigg Practice, Kentish Town Health Centre Tomorrow’s People has been challenged to redesign its successful work with GP surgeries in order to find funding that supports unemployed people through work, improved health and wellbeing. Our focus is on helping people find a job, but this has to be a job that they want to keep; our belief is that if health and wellbeing is improved at the same time, sustaining employment is an increased reality. We seek to build a model in Camden that can be replicated nationally. We will bring together policy experts, local authority representatives, health professionals, major employers, delivery staff, end users and service designers to understand the issues and to work together to deliver the best possible response. Some of the questions the forum will explore include: •

What is the link between health and unemployment?

How can those with mental health issues find the support needed to enter employment?

How could employers accommodate health concerns in their recruitment process?

How can a new service compliment and connect with existing services in Camden?

Praxis is the research and innovation unit of Tomorrow’s People. Praxis takes its brief from the front line of unemployment policy and practice. It uses the collective knowledge of service users and service providers to design new models to address key issues. Tomorrow’s People is a national charity working since 1984 in deprived communities in England and Scotland. Its mission is to help long-term unemployed people to get and keep a job so they can transform their lives through work. Tomorrow’s People has worked with GP practices, hospitals and clinics since 2001. For more information, contact rmcdonald@tomorrows-people.co.uk or Ronan McDonald on 02034053366.
