The summer season is now fast approaching in Carvoeiro and many of the restaurants and bars in the town have now reopened as the first buses filled with visitors make their way to the town. With more people, come more cars to Carvoeiro and the problem of where to park will once again be one that will be tackled by the local Junta by reintroducing the paid parking scheme along Rua do Barranco. The black plastic is due to be ripped off the parking signs and metres on March 17 so be sure that you move your car from this area if you do not want to pay the rates. Paid parking in Carvoeiro runs along Rua do Barranco from the junction of Monte Dourado until the rubbish bins on the right hand side of the road. The paid parking was first introduced last year in Carvoeiro to try an offer more spaces

for visitors to the town, however it was suspended from October 31 for the winter months while the levels of visitors are low. The reintroduction of the parking metres is a sure sign that the summer season is on its way and the early arrival of Easter on March 31 will hopefully bring some much needed extra trade to Carvoeiro after a long and difficult winter. The coming of the summer season also means that more events and activities are taking place in and around Carvoeiro – turn to our events page to see some of the best events on offer this month. Look out for updates about events taking place in March for residents and visitors by keeping in touch with us via our website at www.tomorrowcarvoeiro.com or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ TomorrowCarvoeiro.

Stars from the world of cycling, including Mark Cavendish, raced through the local area in February as part of the 39th Volta Algarve race. The race finished in Lagoa where there was a prize giving ceremony which saw local insurance broker Bruno Silva present the yellow jersey. The winner of the Lagoa stage was Dutch rider Theo Bos from the Blanco Pro Cycling Team but in the end it was German cyclist Tony Martin from the Omega Pharma-Quick Step team who was the overall winner of the race. “This is my second victory in the Volta ao Algarve along a course that was very technical. I did everything that I could to win the race but it certainly wasn’t easy, said Tony Martin.

n Charity Golf Former republic of Ireland and Liverpool footballer John Aldridge presented a cheque for more than â‚Ź4,500 to the Lagos based charity NECI following a charity golf competition held at Boavista Golf Club. John Aldridge told Tomorrow Carvoeiro: “I have had a property in Praia da Luz for 25 years and I think of it as my village while Liverpool is my town and Dublin is my city which is why the funds raised from the charity golf day have been split three ways to charities in each place. “NECI is a very worthy cause and it is great to see so many people come out and support this charity day, including the many local people who have taken part.â€? 6 | Tomorrow March 2013
