MISSION STATEMENT: YoMagination® Wellness & Education, with a commitment to whole child health, our mission is to encourage and educate children about making healthy, responsible lifestyle choices in a fun, interactive and creative format. It all begins with a trip to the Island of YoMagination.
About the Program: All Kids YoPoweR! Programs are based on the most recent guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics and recommendations of the American Heart Association and are aligned with the Center for Disease Control curriculum suggestions for health and nutrition. Kids YoPoweR! Program is a comprehensive, detailed movement and learning curriculum. Components include health, nutrition, fitness and psychological wellness, while integrating character qualities to encourage and model personal responsibility and success. Fusing fitness, fun, and nutritional information, with an imaginative storyline, that’s Kids YoPoweR!
Kids YoPoweR! Fitness - YoMagination Combination!!! Each Kids YoPower! lesson, children “visit” a new and magical environment on the Island of YoMagination. Using a combination of guided imagery, character development, yoga style poses and creative movements, children will experientially explore the body, mind and self. The synergy of active play, imagination, character development and our YPR positive decision-making formula, allows Kids YoPoweR! to lead the child in developing a positive sense of personal wellness, self expression and empowerment. Children will learn a series of exciting, unique fitness routines that will consist of original Yomagination® journeys and customized fitness routines for cutting edge, interactive Exergame equipment. YoMagination journeys fuse yoga poses, isometric and cardiovascular exercises that children love, followed by high energy Exergame “Station Exploration”! As children move through Kids YoPoweR! Program, their self awareness and concentration is heightened. This provides a unique opportunity to introduce healthy concepts and for children to make the connection between their lifestyle choices and having a healthy body. Helping children make that connection is what makes Kids YoPoweR! Program unique and effective!
An invitation to students, teachers, and parents to explore, imagine and inspire!
Heather Quillen With a long standing interest in children and family issues, particularly as it pertains to heath care, Heather Quillen started her career in non profit after graduating from the University of Central Florida. The Parents Resource Center, a facility dedicated to the support and welfare of parents and children, was the starting point for Heather. A move to the Community Health Foundation provided leadership experience as the Director of Development, focusing on providing education and access to health care for low-income and migrant families, as well as farm workers from the area citrus and vegetable industries. Heather’s career path continued in the area of health care access and advocacy in the nonprofit world, including the Development Director position with the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians and the Medcen Foundation. After starting a family with two children, Heather became particularly aware of the increasing number of overweight and obese children. Having personally struggled with weight issues, Heather was acutely aware of the emotional and physical costs associated with obesity. After many years of searching for a balanced lifestyle, a whole health approach to wellness, including yoga, cardiovascular exercise and personal reflection provided the answer for her. Recognizing unhealthy choices become unhealthy habits,
Heather was compelled to help children find the path to wellness for a lifetime. Understanding the implications and consequences facing overweight children, Heather was determined to find answers and to be part of the solution to this problem. For Heather, founding Yomagination® Wellness & Education was truly a labor of love with a mission to encourage and educate children about making healthy lifestyle choices for a lifetime. Combining her lifelong passion for animals and the environment with her personal and professional commitment and experience to health and wellness, The Island of Yomagination® storyline was born. The program embraces the whole child approach to wellness by fusing yoga poses, cardiovascular and isometric exercises into an innovative, imaginative series of journeys. Yomagination® integrates fitness and fun with nutritional and wellness information by introducing healthy concepts for children to make the connection between their lifestyle choices and having a healthy body. All the journeys take place on the Island of Yomagination® and all the poses and exercises in the journey are characters that live on the island. Through a multi-disciplinary approach, this program was developed based on the most current recommendation by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Sound medical information has been transformed into an engaging, interactive program with fun characters to follow on the journey to YoPoweR!
